Well we can't argue that this is not a dive bar because it certainly is.we went to Pirates Cove in March so it was a little off-season and walked in to what looked like some serious drinkers. This place is dog friendly and there were quite a few around and were well behaved. The atmosphere was very rustic to say the least. We ordered a couple of drinks and two burgers, fries and split a chili dog. We also tried the breaded green beans as a starter. The green beans were very interesting and actually really good.The french fries were served fresh and hot.The burgers were good but really nothing exceptional. I guess if we were to go back to Pirates Cove it would be in the summertime where we could enjoy the weather and people watching. read more

We have been coming here every year on vacation and this year the staff was extremely rude. The woman working the cash register told 2 of our family members she would beat them up because they moved the tip jar in order to read the menu under it. Absolutely ridiculous. read more

This is my idea of a "dive bar". It looks like a 5 knot wind could blow it over, the bartender knows your name, the food is great, the view is better, and no one seems to care about the sandy floors. Good Food Good Service Reasonable Prices We have eaten there twice and found the service to be good as well as the food. From time to time there is a wait but that is the case at most of the good places in the Gulf Shores area. They have a large menu and there is something there for everyone in the family, even the kids. The salads are really good and they do a excellent job of preparing the fish the way you like it. Not impressed with the cleanliness, maybe it's because they allow dogs to run all over, If your a dog lover this is the place for you, Don't get me wrong, I like dogs but if I want them running around me while I'm eating I'll go down to the shelter and have lunch. This is a great place to dock and pick up a couple of drinks and burgers. This is just a local spot that is easiest to get to by boat. We live in Lillian and traveled 22 minutes to get here. The food is very limited menu, mostly burgers and fries. Many of the locals stop here to pick up a quick bite and drinks. Mostly picnic tables around the outside with a few tables on the inside. Kids can play in the water on the mini beach. Just a quaint little spot at satisfies your thirst and some hunger. read more

That being said this is a great place to park your boat and people watch or join the party. The staff is absolutely awful. they took my friends ID and refused to look at her second form so she could prove she was 21 (which she is). Kicked her out and didn't give her her ID back or let her or any member of our party order any food. The bartender was rude, aggressive, and arrogant. read more

This place is awesome! They have great bushwhackers and good dive food. The onion rings and burgers we have were delish! The one true Cheeseburger in Paradise. Whether you're driving in through Josephine or pulling up in a boat, you're in for one of the most distinctively great experiences on the Gulf Coast. Everyone who is of age ought to avail themselves of a bushwhacker, essentially an adult milkshake. There's fountain drinks and beer available as well when you enter the main building. The place is insanely overrated. It's a cool place to bring the boat and hangout, but food-wise, I'd honestly rather get McDonald's. The burger was okay but the onion rings were pretty good. It didn't seem clean at all there and the employees didn't seem to care. I know it's not a big deal but they wouldn't even take the tomatoes off my burger. I paid $9.00 for the burger and it was small and very underwhelming. I think I paid about $15 in total for the burger, onion rings, and drink. That wouldnt be too bad but the food seemed like McDonald's quality. So at the end of the day if you really want to go there, go for it. Love me some Pirates Cove! There are some docks, but can also beach your boat on the shoreline here. They have a machine that makes a pretty good Bushwhacker and I like to get mine topped with 99 bananas. The food is pretty typical fried bar fair, but honestly pretty tasty. Unique. That sums this place up. Unfortunately, not in a good way! My wife's parents live on ONO Island so this place gets talked about quite a lot. I've experienced it a couple of times and i though it was time to give it a review. It is very dog friendly. In turn, that means hygiene is a curse word at Pirates Cove. It smells of wet dog and there are tones of fly's everywhere! There is a particular dog which is always there. It is very old and very obese. The sores on it's legs are drooping. It's disgusting. The dog screams 'help, animal cruelty'. We came for a burger last week. The woman who served us was smoking while she did so. The food was disgusting! By far the worst food i've had in America. It was $6 for the burger and $3 for fries (which were potato wedges, not fries). Most people come here for the drinks and to enjoy the sun while lounging on their boat or jet ski. Mostly locals. As an experience of local AL, it is great people watching material. Once you've taken it all in, leave and never return. We took a jet ski and while we were leaving, a guy who was swimming by his boat with his family was flicking his cigarette ash in the water, yeah, the same water his kids were swimming in. Smoking around kids is bad enough in my opinion, but this was a new low. You know that famous phrase 'don't shit where you eat'?. Come on man, really!? Maybe i just don't understand the south. Bottom line, if you come, don't eat, just drink, and do so on the beach, away from the smell of wet dog. read more

I could review this oh-so-many ways. On one hand, eating at this establishment had all the excitement of risking tetanus while running through a street of rusty nails. On the other hand, it was the most perfect bayou-based dive bar I have ever beheld. So in other words, it could rate a 1 star or a 5 star depending on your frame of mind. Being that it's late in the day, and I have fond memories of giant snoring bayou dogs at my feet and scary pirate ladies serving pink wine in keg cups, I am in the frame of mind to give it a four star rating. Warning: I might be a bit verbose on this review. But the experience was priceless, so I must try to capture it. Day # 4? of a summer vacation week in the Deep South. Whaaa you say? Who travels from the temperate summers of the Pacific Northwest to vacation in the Gulf Shores in August? Who does this? Well...I did. For good reasons. But you'll have to read that on my wordpress blog. Insert shameless plug here . After being on a pontoon boat most of the day, we arrived at this bar based on suggestions from the boat rental place. In retrospect, I think there may have been an "arrangement" between the two businesses, but that's coming from a gal who lives in a city that has an entire underground tunnel system that was built to "Shanghai" drunks through trap doors and onto ships as captives. Just sayin'. As we approached the sandy shore that is the parking lot for this place, our captain dropped us off at the edge so the whole group could go from deck to sand without plopping into the water. Well...almost. A few moments after disembarking, I was summoned to said boat and asked to throw the anchor back on so the boat could be repositioned...only the grade of said shore goes from sea level to sea lava cave depth in like 3 feet. Fortunately for me and not so fortunately for my hero, I was saved by a fellow vacationer who took the anchor from my hand and stepped toward the boat...and then all there was left of him was his hat and a forearm holding an anchor like the Statue of Liberty. I kid you not. That was my first unique experience. PS, Scottie, you're a peach. And I mean that in the best possible way. After said hero and boat captain returned from the water, we joined our group inside the restaurant. There are fans hanging by a wire from the ceiling...but for ambiance, you should be warned about the bathrooms...ust do yourself a favor and pee in the bayou water instead. My eyes are still scarred for life. Our younger vacationers had gone inside to order food en masse, which was not well received by the staff inside. Which was hilarious fodder for conversation at the table. As was the number of dogs in various stages of consciousness inside the restaurant. And the largest dog I've ever seen...and possibly the oldest. With some serious skin funk. Serious. Do not pet. Cause...wow. Food arrived, followed by a keg cup of wine - all they had was "pink wine". But it was cold, and I was thirsty, and did I mention it was a full pour served in a keg cup? Fine by me. Burgers were good, drinks were cold, and the crazy pirate lady grabbed poor Scottie and gave him a giant hug before we left. So, if you want to go for a good old fashioned gawking, this is a great place. Burgers also good. Drinks cold. Service pirate-y and I don't mean the outfits. This is the most funktastic salty-dog place I've ever been. And that says a lot. read more

Dogs are free to go anywhere and the majority of the dogs are the owners so there's always dogs to play with. There's dogs everywhere, and is probably one of the only restaurant-type places where you can bring your four-legged friends along the coast. We've spent most of our time in the newly-built bar area where they have live music. One guy lets you play/sing if you want! It's less crowded than the main place and you get the same service and bushwackers- what's not to love! It's got a small waterfront area that you can swim in. And you can arrive by boat or car; parking for both is tricky. The food is good, typical bar fares like burgers, fries and onion rings. But it hits the spot and is consistent. We told the manager that we should get our entree for free and she said "Nope, but I can throw it away for you and you won't have to pay for it." So rude.
