We usually go to the Pita Jungle in Arcadia, but we happen to be up by Desert Ridge today and I had a craving for their chicken del Sol. It's really difficult for me to order anything else on the menu although they have a huge variety and someday I really ought to try that! My husband seems to have the same trouble he always orders a Gyro. We literally stare at the menu in an order the same thing every time The chicken del sole was excellent as always, and I end up taking half of it home for lunch. The next day the little cheesy bread things are wonderful too. My husband's gyro was as expected. Some of the chairs are really beat up for some reason (?) Pita Jungle is our go to place for take out! We love the Mediterranean / Middle Eastern flavors. Food is also fresh and healthy and the price is right. Sometimes we dine in. If we do we prefer the outside patio as the inside is really loud. We love the Hummus trio solo or we like to order it with the seared ahi tuna bites, delicious! The trio is great bc you get regular, roasted red pepper, and cilantro hummus, a little of everything. We also order an extra pita to go with it. We love their Caramelized cauliflower with tahini, yum! I almost always order the wood fired veggie lavash wrap that comes with a Greek side salad. It's enough to split with someone or I end up having half the wrap the first day and the second half for lunch the next day. Pita Jungle's portions are large. I also like their grilled vegetable salad. My husband likes their chicken shawarma. The kids meals are great too. You pick a protein, carb, fruit, and vegetable and you can sub things out as well for other things, just not double protein. They also have a ton of gluten free options. My husband and I love hitting up great places with good happy hour. We've been going to this location for a bit most Fridays since it's close to home and the servers at the bar are absolutely amazing and we never had an issue getting a table and sitting down. The place is clean and large! You can also tell the workers love working there which is nice. I would give this a 5 stars but the tapas happy hour ends at 5pm and the drinks at 6pm. Since my husband and I work til 5pm, we almost always have to ask our leaders to get off of work 20 mins early and speed to get there before 5pm to order food! We usually have a good experience at this location - probably a 4-star experience overall - but our most recent visit felt like something was really "off." Service was pretty slow. The drinks and soup came out quick, but the meals took uncharacteristically long. Service was spotty and inconsistent, and only part of our meals came out together. Eventually our order of hummus came out, but without the pita. We were assured some warm pita would be out shortly, but it didn't come out. Ever. So we asked for the hummus and pita to be taken off the bill, which it was. Also, the dishes that our meals were served on seemed dirty, with crusty bits of old food still stuck on them. I had some family members visiting town including a couple with a dog, and we thought of tasty food nearby with an outdoor patio that is dog-friendly and who took reservations in advance. While Pita Jungle at Desert Ridge doesn't officially take reservations, I called in advance to see if I could get a group of 8 in for an outdoor reservation about a week ago. They took my name and contact information and asked me if I could call them to remind them the day of. I called this morning after they opened and they had the note right by the phone and remembered my name. They saved a table for us outdoors, and my group was able to sit on time. It was great having four couples coming from different places, and Pita Jungle offered healthy and tasty food options where everyone could order what they wanted to. The outdoor patio remained busy, and though some of us sat in the sun, we were able to be comfortable with good serving staff who continued to refill beverages and come back to take orders whether it was an order of starters or our entrees a bit later. He even came back to take a group photo before we left. The food itself was great! I got a gyro pita consisting of broiled beef and lamb gyro, tzatziki, seasonal mixed greens, tomatoes, red onions, and pickles, with greek pita. I could have also ordered it as a bowl with turmeric brown rice, cabbage-kale super greens, lemon juice, evoo, sumac, parsley, sprouts. My wife ordered a small dish of tzatziki, consisting of yogurt, cucumber, fresh garlic, mint, za'atar, and pita. Both were delicious and a good portion size. Others in our group ordered salads, sandwiches, pitas, or starters. Pita Jungle is considered the "Healthy Mediterranean Restaurant in Arizona." It has been around since 1994. You can visit their website at https://pitajungle.com. They have an app, and their happy hours are amazing! Happy Hour and Tapas are different based on the location. At Desert Ridge, there are daily drink specials from 3-6 PM and daily tapas specials from 3-5 PM starting at only $2. They are open daily from 11 AM to 9 PM. Their menu includes a nutrition chart, vegan chart, allergen chart, and a nutrition calculator. I remember visiting other Pita Jungle locations with my wife when we just started dating for tapas, which we shared and bonded over way back when. We've been dining at Pita Jungle for over 20 years, mainly because of the convenience, the healthier options, and the fact that they offer a dedicated gluten-free menu. My wife has celiac disease, so having a reliable place with clear GF options has always been important to us. Earlier this week, we ordered delivery. My wife chose her usual salad from the gluten-free menu. The standard version of this salad normally comes with pita crumbles, so when hers arrived without them (and without cilantro, which she had asked to omit), she assumed it was made correctly. Unfortunately, after a few bites, she realized that instead of being gluten-free, the salad actually had chopped pita bread pieces mixed throughout. For someone with celiac disease, eating gluten is not just a "preference violation" -- it's essentially being poisoned and leads to days of painful symptoms. When she called the restaurant, the manager on duty was shockingly rude and dismissive. Instead of showing any empathy or taking responsibility, she told us we had to contact the delivery service for a refund, and the only thing she could offer was to remake the salad if we drove over ourselves. We did pick it up (defeating the whole purpose of ordering delivery), and while the salad was finally made correctly, the manager again showed no concern or apology. She casually remarked that "the chef must've just thrown some pita pieces in there by mistake." That kind of mistake is unacceptable when dealing with food allergies. After this experience, we sadly won't be returning. It's deeply disappointing to be treated this way by a restaurant we've supported for decades. We decided to dine early at Pita Jungle. We were the second couple in there. It was nice to have the place to ourselves because the other couple was eating on the patio. We opted to sit inside. Staff were pleasant and asked us to seat ourselves. Nice atmosphere in here. After checking the menu we decided on two orders of garlic lemon grilled chicken with pine nuts and an order of spinach pesto pizza. The order arrived quickly. The chicken is a dry rub. It was good and the flavors are strong. A small amount is really enough. The pizza was absolutely delicious. The arugula on top of the pizza was a hit as was the drizzle of balsamic vinegar. Yum!! Comfortable and relatively quiet! That's not easy to find these days. Menu has a delightful selection. Food quality is top notch and fresh. But I do have a major gripe: Falafel. This is my go-to at such restaurants and cafes. An outstanding falafel should be fresh hot out of the fryer, crispy on the outside and fuffy and tasty inside. Here at Pita Jungle, there's nothing crispy about it and is consistently served lukewarm. A shame, actually. read more

I came here because it was within walking distance of the Holiday Inn. I walked in and was immediately greeted by a staff member who asked if I was dining in. I opted to sit at the bar and the woman worked the bar was super nice and welcoming. She was attentive in her service of food and drinks. She offered suggestions and opinions to me as I had never been here before. I ordered the fried rice which was delicious!!! So many shrimp in the dish added to the flavor. My dining companions went for a healthier selection (as usual) and had the Falafel Bowl, featuring deep fried falafel balls, tahini, tomatoes, red onions, and pickles, over a bed of mixed greens with turmeric brown rice, cabbage-kale super greens, garlic, lemon juice, and sumac. All three of us really enjoyed our tasty, freshly cooked meals. Our server, Tom, was very personable and provided good advice to help us navigate the menu on our first visit to Pita Jungle. Unfortunately this is a very mixed review with very highs and very lows. I'll begin with the negative to end on the positive... We ordered delivery through UberEats and the driver was fabulous so I am not holding her accountable for any of the negatives. We ordered 2 baked felafel. They were tiny, less than a tablespoon measure and burned. See picture. We ordered tzatziki which came with one pita. It was fresh and tasty. We also ordered the bowl of gazpacho. It was not packed appropriately for takeout. The paper carton spilled over in the carrier bag. It came with one small and overcooked pita chip, and a rotted lemon wedge. None of that is quality and if we were eating in the restaurant, we certainly would have asked for the inferior food and poor quality items to be replaced. At noon on Feb 22, 2024 i ordered takeaway at this locations. My wife ate a black bean burger which was good. I ordered a gyro salad. When I ate it the meat was totally disappointing. About 1/2 of it was dried out to the point of approximating crispy potato chips. The coleslaw had a sour odd taste and was soggy. I wonder if wasn't prepared a day or so earlier. We have eaten at Pita Jungle many times during our February Scottsdale trips. We have recommended it to others. Based on this experience it seems that quality control is currently lacking. 30 hours after this meal I became ill with a GI bug. Could be circumstancial, but causes one to wonder. read more

This is for the Desert Ridge location... I pretty much know the food and I noticed that the menu seems quite expanded, almost to the level of the proverbial Greek diner. Since I haven't loved their falafel in the past, I ordered the wood burned veggies (on rice) with feta. Actually qute good although the feta seemed to be all ion one congealed spot. Would have been better sprinkled around before heating, but still a decent dish. Would have given 3 stars, except for the excellent server. Since initial review have been back several times. Shared the medeterranian antipasto appetizer platter and had the medeterranian chicken salad as an entree. Opted to dine outside on the patio where most of the customers were prior to the evening rush. Much more pleasant outside, great weather and much lower noise level. The appetizer platter was very filling. It contained humus, baba ganoosh, tzatziki, taboule, dolmades, falafel, feta, with some olives tomato and cucumber. The dish had two pita and we asked the server for two more to finish it off. The platter easily could have been adequate for a shared meal. The mediterranian chicken salad was exceptional. It contained grilled chopped chicken breast with mixed greens, roasted bell peppers, cucumbers, tomato, feta, cilantro raisins and pine nuts. The salad had a nice lemon vinaigrette and lots of taboule. If you don't like parsley may want to try another dish. Service was very good. They had good team work. Would have liked to receive the happy hour menu when we first got the regular menu. It came after we decided what we wanted to order but that was ok. I usually order the same entree.
