Fantastic gelato and exceptional service. The employees behind the counter carry amicable attitudes and are patient as you sample flavors. I had a small cup with half hazelnut and half cinnamon for dessert after dining at a nearby restaurant. We staumbled upon this place via yelp. We already had lunch and were just walking around looking at everything and were HOT! Brought up the good ole yelp app and we were half a mile from this place. There are many delicious selections of gelato and beverages. There isnt though many selecations for seats. We walked outside and stood close by to enjoy our gelato. I didnt really see all the other beverage options because it was kind of chaotic inside and outside because the lack of seating. Bathrooms -- not sure if there was a public one. Seemed clean enough inside. Staff was helpful with ordering and made sure they understood what you wanted. Much needed stop on a very hot day! read more

I opted for the hot chocolate. The gelato did look good but I just stuffed myself over at Carmine's and wanted something semisweet and warm while I walked back to my hotel. Very cute gelato shop tucked in 7th street. My boyfriend and I were on scooters in the July Washington DC heat and decided that a sweet treat was a must. I'm normally a huge ice cream fan, but with the 105° day I opted for some refreshing sorbet. I had a regular size which had two half scoops; pineapple and grapefruit. The grapefruit was good and not too tart, and the pineapple was perfect. I would consider doing all pineapple next time! Seriously refreshing and sweet. They have a full service coffee and espresso bar which I imagine comes in handy during the winter. read more

The gelato here is delicious, and of high quality. I'd say it's comparable to gelato that I've had in Italy (and I had gelato there at least once, most times, twice a day), but the price is 3 times what you would pay in Italy and the size of the gelato is tiny. But I would rather have a small amount of something great than a large amount of something mediocre. They have unique flavors that you won't find at most other places, like Black Sesame gelato, Black Tea, Halva & Pistachio, Pistachio, Walnut, and more. They also have a wide variety of sorbet flavors like Passionfruit, Kiwi, Peach, Blood Orange, Chocolate sorbet. The flavors are definitely natural tasting and not artificial/chemical tasting. I got the chocolate sorbet & passionfruit gelato (both dairy-free) and they were delicious, and worth the splurge once in a while. My son is allergic to dairy & egg (and I'm still nursing him) -- unfortunately, he did have a reaction after I ate here, so if you're allergic to either, even though the sorbets don't have dairy or egg, you may want to avoid this place because of cross-contamination. I'll definitely come back here next time I'm craving an ice cream, or to one of their other locations - they have 6 in the DMV area. Pricey, but worth it once in a while, for when you can't go to Rome to get the real deal. read more

The flavors are reminiscent of a high-quality gelato and the are for a decent price. Service: The staff member was exceedingly friendly, welcoming, and engaging. He insisted that we try more samples so that we knew if we were happy with our flavors. He made the experience just that more enjoyable. Atmosphere: It's a small shop. There are maybe 4 sets of stools in different corners of the shop to sit at, so if you come with a large party, be sure you know where you're gonna go afterwards. It's a cute shop. Finish: I would definitely recommend this place for a dessert stop if you're in the area. Absolutely lovely visit. Whenever I'm in DC, I love stopping by here and grabbing a small treat to eat. It's in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the metropolitan area so there's plenty of things to see around there and it's just in a really good location. In normally get a small, which allows 2 flavors, and they pack it in there. There are so many flavors to choose from and try. I always like to pair a rich and decadent flavor, like the chocolate hazelnut or the chocolate noir, with a lighter and tart flavor to balance it out and cleanse my palette as I finish. They have an array of sorbets which tend to range in the tart range, such as tangerine, passion fruit, raspberry, mango, and many more. They also have some other creamy gelatos such as matcha green tea which I really enjoy. This last time I went, I got the green tea and the chocolate hazelnut because the green tea was light enough to balance it out without being overwhelmingly creamy. The textures provides just such a nice and smooth taste, it's just the perfect consistency. The space itself is pretty small but quaint. I would suggest planning on eating it on the go. read more

This is a local homemade gourmet gelato place, all their ingredients are coming from fresh fruits and selected organic milk from farm. One of my ALL TIME favorite is the Sicilian Almond. The last few times that I went, they didnt have that flavor :/ so when you go and see Almond is on the flavor menu, that's a must try! The BEST GELATO IN TOWN!!! We were walking in the DC and saw this huge line at the gelato place. I checked into yelp and saw all the amazing review and off we went to be in the queue. I was surprised to see all the unique and interesting flavors they had on their menu. I tried their Mijoto sorbet, cadamom, choclotae Nior and pistachio. Fantastic gelateria off of the national mall. Is it cheap? No. However, the gelato here is amazing. Some of the best in the country. The local bosc pear was out of this world. Positively bursting with flavor. The portions are small, but the taste is HUGE. If you're near the National Mall or Smithsonian, skip the ice cream stands and take a gelato break. I don't get why people go nuts over these overpriced, underwhelming gelato places. Just like Grom and il laboratorio del gelato in NYC, the stuff here tastes fine because ice cream and gelato are always good, but it's really nothing special. The flavor menu looks great, but unfortunately most of the flavors are way too subtle and just not nearly flavorful enough. I was excited to try Hazelnut, as I became obsessed with getting Nocciola gelato from a trip to Italy a few years ago, but this was pretty tasteless in comparison. I was also happy to see the relatively rare flavor of Black Sesame, but this one too was pretty weak. The fact that I actually didn't finish the gelato here speaks volumes since I always polish off every bite of dessert. Instead, I figured I'd save the room for an additional dessert somewhere else. The gelato here is amazing in variety, flavor, and texture. I had a small size with black tea and pistachio and loved the rich flavor of both. I also tried some affogato. This is the first time I've heard of this dessert, but now that I know it exists it won't be my last! The creamy gelato meshed well with the deep flavor of the espresso. A-OK sums it up beautifully. Service was pretty meh; greeting us or being friendly was not in the staff's protocol evidently. The gelato itself is not bad, but it's not particularly good either - especially at this price point (over 5 bucks for a small cup). I don't mind paying a premium for really, really good ice cream or gelato, but so far I haven't tried a flavor here that I truly fell in love with and would want to go back for (I've been several times). That said, I will admit that the flavor selection is varied and interesting enough, with staples that are always on the menu and some more seasonal offerings that change depending on when you visit, so perhaps I just haven't found "the one" yet and need to try again. I do have friends that love this place, after all... Personally, my instinct would still be to just walk down the street for some Dolcezza instead, but I wouldn't write off trying something else from here in the future entirely. Hopefully next time it'll at least be served up with a smile instead of a scowl. read more
