I ordered thru Uber Eats. The pizza was nicely sliced but the box seemed a bit too big for the pizza. The slices had shifted apart upon receipt. I got the IYKYK PIZZA which is labeled as having bolognese, mozzarella, ricotta, and chili flakes. The pizza- Bolognese ratio was a bit of a letdown: Bolognese was fairly thinly spread with some slices barely having any; the slices had more basil leaves. Other than that the pizza was not bad. The dough was thin, chewy and tasted a bit like lasagne. The roasted cauliflower had a hint of mint it it which is an unusual combination. The chocolate chip cookie was a decent chunky size but very soft, almost like raw cookie dough. It didn't seem like it had been baked long enough. I stuck it in the oven for another 5 min or so it and it turned out a little better. The menu offers some interesting pizza options, although it seems to be a little on the pricy end. It was not the best pizza delivery experience but it was not bad either.

I would say this is more of a 3.5 for me now. I have been to both this and the Orange location a couple of times over the past few years. They have great pizzas and topping combinations. I love the honey bear one. I tried the Brussel sprouts for the first time and it was good. However, I was a bit disappointed in the amount of toppings. It seems to have reduced significantly from what I remember. One of the pizzas hardly could get 1-2 slices of pepperoni each. Same with the sausage. I know these are artisan pizzas and overloading toppings isn't the point. But I do expect a bit more for the price point. I still think they have great pizzas but the lack of toppings for price, and waiting close to an hour when calling in has me looking elsewhere unfortunately.

In an area that has plenty of pizza spots this one was a pretty solid choice. I met up with some friends on a Monday for some lunch. Between the three of us we shared two pizzas and a salad. The pizzas were a good size and definitely shareable. I liked that they were thinner crust and they gave us some complementary pesto and ranch dressing to dip. For our pizzas we went with their popular Honey Bear pizza and the sausage pizza. The Honey Bear one was definitely on the sweeter side and had ricotta which I enjoyed. I recommend it if you like it sweet. The sausage one was my more preferred one. It didn't have a whole bunch of meat but it was good. Both didn't taste that heavy. For the salad we got the Little Gem Cesar salad which was full of flavor. It was enjoyable. You order and pay first at bar and they bring the food to you. They didn't really check on us while we were there. The inside of the restaurant is large and casual. There is plenty of seating and great for small or larger parties. No outside seating. Parking was easy since they have a whole lot to themselves.

A few friends and I ordered 3 of their pizzas (Honey Bear, Field Mushroom, Margherita). The pie is cut into 6 decently sized slices. This was a delivery ordered which came at the estimated time so I can't speak much to the service or ambiance. The crust was thin crust and had a slightly doughyness on the crust. I'd rank the Field Mushroom as my first winner , then the Honey Bear (wish it had more meat), and Margherita (wasn't something I'd order again). Pitfire Pizza continues to be a very solid pizza option, especially if you are looking for a gluten-free pie that actually delivers. I had tried the LA location before, which made me confident coming into this visit, and this location did not disappoint. I ordered the gluten-free sausage and ricotta along with the gluten-free mushroom pizza, and both were excellent. The mushroom once again stood out with deep flavor and great balance. The gluten-free crust was crispy and held up really well, which is not always easy to find. It did not feel like a compromise at all, just a well executed pizza. Consistent quality and a great gluten-free option in Costa Mesa.

Catered this to a party! The downside was the wait time on doordash compared to the time we actually waited. We did the Family Meal: Roasted Chicken & Mushroom Cautappi Pasta, Sausage Party & Pesto Chicken Unfolded Pizzas, and Little Gem Caesar Salad. We also got the Boneless Buffalo Wings (Large) and a Classic Chopped Salad. To be honest, our judgement of the pizza is different from what we think of the wings due to the pizza being cold by the time we got it! All the flavor was there for the wings, but the coldness of the pizzas made it taste even more bland. The salads were great on the side to wash down with such a savory meal. If you get a chance to get the brews at the bar, definitely do it for a great, yummy buzz. We waited an hour for our pick up order. Halfway through, the gentlemen in the front let us know the Spicy Rigatoni Alla Vodka Pasta was actually out so we chose our second option, the Cautappi. I wish they would've let us know sooner because it makes it seem like that was what was setting them back from our order. Thanks for the reassurance from the man working the front that day and another lovely server. Hopefully next time I come, the day won't be too busy!

Love this place Delicious pizza options and . They have great selection also on beers and draft wine and I believe margaritas. You order at the counter and get a number choose your table, and they bring the food to you. I really enjoyed the music they were playing.

Ordered delivery last night and was very disappointed. We got two pizzas and two orders of chicken wings... the food did not seem fresh and it was very dry and overcooked. Very sad to receive such mediocre food! Spent almost $100 and immediately regret choosing Pitfire. I had it one time that was really amazing and would say they are very hit or miss!!!!!!

If I was a drug addict and Pitfire was my drug of choice, I'd never quit. This is my favorite pizza spot in OC. I bring all my friends here and I go 1-2 times a month. The employees are all so kind, the food is amazing, and the drinks are perfect. They really dedicate themselves to giving you the best service possible. For instance, I ordered a Honey Berr pizza and they brought me TWO pizzas because the first one (according to them) was "too small" so they made me a second one! This place is the best, go ahead and try it.

The service here was great, I appreciated that they delivered at the beginning of the delivery window so u didn't have to worry about the food not being ready when the guests arrive. The size of the pizzas was nice (comparable to about a Pizza Hut medium) and they were delicious! I would definitely consider ordering from them again when I do events in their area. read more

We stopped by for a quick bite while passing through the area. When we walked in, the place was nearly empty, with just one other table occupied. We waited a few minutes at the register before anyone came to take our order, as there seemed to be no staff around. The service was slow--the cashier seemed out of it and moved sluggishly. We were told our two pizzas would take 15 minutes, but after 15 minutes, there was still no sign of them. Another 15 minutes passed, and we were told they had a large party before we arrived, though it wasn't clear why that was still causing a delay. After another 15 minutes, I asked about our order, and the response was just, "Yeah, one sec." Finally, after 40 minutes, the pizzas came out. The pizza itself was average--nothing special and definitely not worth the long wait. They gave us two cookies as an apology, but they tasted strange. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, and we won't be returning. read more

This is where I go when I don't mind spending a little more for a very good pizza. The honey bear pizza is a unique combination of ingredients and all come together nicely with a sweet, spicy and savory balance. And the pizza crust is perfect in my opinion. Steak salad is another winner. If craving a cocktail, head over to the bar in the back.... They make a great whiskey sour. read more

Very mediocre / below subpar food. My partner and I were pretty disappointed. We ordered on Door Dash, so I'm not sure if that impacted the quality of the food. We ordered the mac and cheese, vegan Ceasar salad, cheesy knots, and a pizza. All were just meh. The pizza probably had he most potential. The mac and cheese dish was creamy and had the seasonings for something great. But it wasn't salty enough. It tasted like blobs of bland cream. It looked esthetically pleasing but the taste was just not there. The vegan Ceasar salad was horrible. We ordered it and added vegan cheese and avocado. It was not good. The dressing tasted like mustard. The vegan cheese was just blobbed on the salad in clumps. It didn't taste anything like Ceasar salad. And wasn't even edible. We each took one bite and threw it in the trash. The cheesy knots were overcooked and black on the bottom. They tasted like burnt bread, with no cheese. If these are called cheesy knots, where is the cheese??? We were so confused. Also, took one bite and threw them away. The pizza was just okay. It was at least edible. The only thing edible out of our entire order. What a waste of 100 bucks. We won't be ordering from them again. read more

We came to dine in last night and the vibes were okay until we got our food. The older lady with a brace on her knee who was assisting the younger man bring our three pizzas has a mean look to her face. She got upset because they brought our pizzas but did not bring us the right amount of dishes, so we saw some dishes on the next table and got them. She quickly snapped at us saying we could've just asked her, but the way that lady looked at us was so unwelcoming that we didn't feel like we could've asked her a single question. They even brought us our drinks and the salad after the pizza which was odd. We were celebrating my dad's birthday and we felt so uncomfortable that the pizza was not enjoyable. As a server, I just thought you would be a people person. But that lady was not. read more

Not sure about this place. The pizza is good. The service is not. I called in advance to let them know that we would be ordering online and have multiple toddlers. They said that wouldn't be an issue and that their current ticket times are 40 minutes. We arrived bout 35 minutes later, let them know we had an online order. We sat down and proceeded to wait for another 30 minutes. We asked a staff member and she checked on it. She came back to say they were still working. We waited another 10 minutes, watching as they started our pizzas. No apology for the delay. The restaurant was nearly empty at this point. read more

Normally, even so-so pizza is like so-so you know what. It's still great. But this is just so-so. The pizza looks good. The sauce is nice but you can't really taste it (too much cheese and bread). There is a lot of cheese on it but the cheese has no taste. Which is odd. Are they using zero fat or zero salt cheese? Also the pizza was not super hot. Is the oven at a full 800? read more

Tried to call in a order,guy answered and said hold for a minute, after being on hold for 6 minutes, it auto recalled and was put straight back onto hold, waited another couple of minutes and decided to hang up try again. This time no one answered at all and kept ringing, tried one more time and same thing. Was just trying to get some food for the family , very disappointed in the lack of service coming from this establishment, it was my fault, I thought they were in the service industry. We stopped here after the beach and the pizza was overpriced for the little amount of toppings on top. The crust was as thin as paper. Not impressed. Also we wanted ranch as a dipping sauce and they charged us $2.50 for 2 oz of ranch, with no refills..... the mac and cheese was yummy but again $13.50 for 1/2 cup of Mac and cheese. For how pricey it is an expect a pizza loaded with toppings and a big bowl full of Mac and cheese. Really a $2.50 ranch.... I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. read more

PSA series: Substantial Lunches for Substantially Cheap or the What To Order From The Kid's Menu Guide - the series nobody asked for. I recently discovered that ordering from the kid's menu is the way to go when you're in the market for a light lunch. So I was in the market for a said " light lunch" so I ironically ordered the kid's Spaghetti &meatballs because it sounded like a good idea at the time even though this was nothing but light - Just lighter in portion ($11.25): chicken meatballs, marinara, parmesan +grilled bread $.50. -Both light in size and on the wallet, this was a delightful discovery. To be honest, I was surprised by the enormous proportion - from the exterior, it looks small, however it's filled to the brim. I think my little meal had 3 meatballs! The very best part?? My visit to Pitfire Artesian Pizza was an absolute nightmare! On Sunday, May 21, 2023, my buddy and I thought we'd grab a late-night bite at this so-called pizza joint. Little did we know, we were in for a series of disappointments and a demonstration of the worst customer service imaginable. We entered the restaurant approximately 40 minutes before closing time and were greeted by the sight of an elderly woman desperately seeking assistance. It was evident that she had been waiting for help for quite some time, but the indifferent staff showed no regard for her presence. How can a supposedly customer-oriented establishment blatantly ignore someone in need? After what felt like an eternity, I took it upon myself to intervene since I was slightly taller than the elderly woman. Finally, I managed to catch the attention of a rude and angry gentleman who approached the register. Instead of addressing the woman with basic human decency, he berated her without even bothering to look at her. He barked at her, "You're not going to eat here, you're gonna get it to go, right?" while impatiently rushing her into making a decision. To make matters worse, this gentleman turned his attention towards us and arrogantly assumed that we, too, were opting for takeout. When I informed him that we intended to dine inside the restaurant, he responded with a curt and dismissive tone, saying, "Only if you eat fast!" How dare he treat paying customers with such disrespect and disregard for their experience! The most infuriating part of this entire ordeal was witnessing the appalling treatment of the elderly woman. No individual, regardless of their age or circumstance, deserves to be treated so callously. It was a clear display of the staff's lack of empathy and basic human decency. I vow never to set foot in this establishment again. Pitfire Artesian Pizza has lost a customer for life due to their abhorrent service. If they have any desire to salvage their reputation, I suggest they adjust their store hours on Yelp and Google to avoid inconveniencing and angering paying customers. Furthermore, the establishment's parking lot, windows, and front doors were absolutely filthy and neglected. It's high time they prioritize cleanliness and make an effort to create a welcoming environment. In conclusion, Pitfire Artesian Pizza at 353 E 17th St, Costa Mesa, CA 92627, is a disgraceful establishment with terrible customer service, a complete lack of empathy, and a general disregard for cleanliness. Save yourself the frustration and disappointment, and find a more deserving place to satisfy your pizza cravings. read more

Had a night to remember! First time trying this place. At first I was a bit hesitant. Just because I couldn't find the speak easy(not knowing it was in the back, but can be reached through the restaurant)! But the staff was more than helpful in directing me towards where I needed to be. The ambiance was just what I wanted, mellow but still lively. Everything I could have asked for. The drinks were good and really fun to watch be made. The food was really great. All and all it was good time. I'm happy I was able to finally get back there. Would and will be recommending to others. I suggest going on sundays! From what I could gather from the people i talked to, this is a good night for the mellow, but still lively crowd. AWESOME!!! Went here for lunch yesterday with the family.. I would call the atmosphere laid-back / trendy. All people that we came in contact with we're courteous and appreciative. We went back for dinner that night and again for lunch today.. We tried multiple pizzas, salads, and loved the chicken meatballs!! I like the not-so-stuck-up feeling of this restaurant that others in this area lack. It's not pretentious, it's not kitschy, it's not full service (why is everyone crying over this?!?). Had another fantastic night here tonight. I'm an irregular regular at Pitfire and Pieso and every time I come in it's just a good gosh darn time. Yum! The food here is always exceptional, and clearly made with fresh ingredients and cooked perfectly each and every time. I can stop by on a busy Friday night or a quiet Monday lunch and the service is always top notch, and always attentive. It speaks volumes to have great food served with a genuine smile each time! Great experience as always when dining at Pitfire in Costa Mesa. The servers are always accommodating and super friendly, the food is always served hot and fresh and always fast! They have a great back room for parties and the secret bar in the back makes this spot even more appealing. The Heirloom and Tomato pizza has to be one of my favorites, the tomatoes are nice and fresh and seasoned perfectly. Pitfire has amazing brick oven pizzas, a delicious assortment of pastas (their spaghetti with meatballs and mac and cheese are both favorites!), and a tasty array of fresh salads! They also have a great selection of beers on tap, wine, and superb sangria! With ample seating both indoors and outdoors at their Washington Blvd location (which is nearest to us), they're very family friendly, but what pizza place isn't? I love making my own pizza here. This place is really yummy. It seems a little pricey for a small pizza but it's worth it and it's filling. Fresh out of the oven pizza is the best! Pitfire is always my go to when I'm craving Pizza or pasta. The corn and chorizo pizza or the heirloom tomato seasonal offerings are by far the freshest and most incredible options in the area. Oh my gosh! The pizza here is to die for! So many cool and interesting combos! My girlfriend and I went today and got 2 IPA and they were wonderful. She ended up getting the Burrata pizza which had Arugula and Hazelnut on it (she loved it!) and I got a honey bear which had spicy peppers and honey on it. Sounds weird but so good!
