I'm almost always craving Malatang so i was so excited to come eat here! However, my first time trying this method of build your own/pay by weight was with YGF malatang so I think that kind of spoiled me and set my expectations high. Pixiu has a nice little buffet style area with lots of options, but they were missing some of my personal favorites, like fish, roe filled fish balls, and mini sausages. (They have cut up hot dogs but it's sadly not the same.) And while they have some random meat in the middle, your meat is actually added once you bring your bowl to the counter, where they ask you whether you want lamb or beef. I kind of wish you were able to pick how much meat you wanted too, because I definitely would have wanted more than they gave me. You also pick your spice level at the counter. And the pick up from level 1 to 2 is kind of big. I could handle 2 and it was delicious, but I think my perfect spice level would have been in-between them. Regardless, the food was really good and the workers were so friendly, so I would still come again! And I love that you can take your broth to go after too. read more

I love coming to this restaurant for a nice bowl of hot pot! It's nice because you can customize the contents with how much noodle, vegetables, tofus, cheese, and skewers you want to add. The broth is so flavorful as well. Be careful of the spice level! I order 0.5 and it's borderline too spicy for me. They are fairly quick with their service and the servers are helpful because if it's your first time, the flow can be confusing. The restaurant is "all you can eat" where you grab yourself whatever and however many ingredients as you want, the cashier then weighs it and asks what broth you'd like and level of spice preferred. Everything was a seamless process and there is even a menu that illustrates the steps as you could go for the stir fry option or the noodle bowl. My husband would like to come back and try their spiciest option next time. For most individuals i think level 2 is just fine. 3. I was really excited to try this place after hearing how spicy their soup is cuz I love my food spicy! It's open seating so you can sit wherever you'd like. In the middle is where you will pick the ingredients you want to add into your soup/stir fry. Just grab a bowl and fill it with whatever you want to add to your soup or stir fry. There are also options at the end to add in beef or lamb for an extra charge. It is easy to get carried away with the ingredients/toppings for your meal and since they charge you based on weight, your meal can get pretty costly if you go overboard, just FYI. I don't feel like I added too many vegetables or toppings but my soup ended up being $20! Once you fill your bowl, go to the register and decide if you want the soup or stir fry. You will also be able to select your spice level for the dish (level 1-5). They said spice level 1 is about the level of spice of Shin Ramyun and level 3 is buldak spicy. I don't even want to know what levels 4 and 5 are like if level 3 is already buldak spicy. I ordered spice level 2, which had a really good kick to it. It wasn't overly spicy to where I couldn't enjoy the dish, but it definitely made me sweat throughout the meal. The portions were also pretty big so I was only able to finish half of it before I got too full. Once you pay for your meal, they will bring it out to you with the soup and all the ingredients/toppings. Everything here is pretty much self-serve so you can grab your own water cup and utensils. Not really sure why this is, but a 2 on the soup is equivalent to Shin Ramen spice while a 3 is the spicy fire chicken ramen spice. We ended up getting a 2 on the hot pot and 1 on the dry pot. Both had a nice level of kick and was enough for us. - Prices can quickly add up. Figure out what you're wanting first and then decide. We got one of each style and both were absolutely delicious. My brother took my fiancée and I out to his favorite place and this was it. The lady behind the counter was nice and welcoming. She told us the instructions. After having some bombass malatang in Philly, I was craving some more malatang and my church's small group wanted to check out this place so I was finally able to check this place out! This place is a chain from South Korea and it resembles malatang from Korea as well, and once you enter, you pick what toppings you want and they weigh your bowl at the register, and you can also pick skewers of spam, sausage, shrimp and more for an upcharge. You're also allowed to pick beef or lamb as your meat -- my total came out to around $21. You then choose your level of spice, ranging from 0-5. 1 is a little bit spicier than shin ramyun, and 5 is the hottest spicy. What I really like about malatang is the numbing spicy taste that it has and it's an addicting taste for sure -- even if it's spicy. They also have other menu items as well. You can get the dry mala hot pot, which is apparently more flavorful but more spicy. They also have fried rice and we also ordered the kkwobarou which someone ordered for the table. After you put your order in, they bring out the cooked malatang to you. I put cabbage, rice cakes, cheesy rice cakes, Chinese flat noodles, broccolli, bok choy, spam skewers, shrimp skewers, fish cakes, soojaebi and bean sprouts in my malatang. The malatang here tastes great! I ordered level 1 (and I cannot do spicy foods) and it was a bit spicy, but it was definitely endurable. It had a good kick to it but it kept making me want more! I was able to finish a majority of my toppings. The portions are plentiful -- and the bowl gets bigger depending on how you fill up your bowl. My absolute favorite was the Chinese flat noodles which is a MUST for your carbs. The owner lady was super nice and our food came out super quickly. The kkwobarou was also very good -- gluttinous and tasty. They also give you danmooji (yellow pickled radish) as a side. It's really surprising to see a mala tang and mala stir fry restaurant in Korean town because I only knew Chinese mala tang which was something I really missed after coming to the US. It turned out that Korean also have similar cuisine so I gave it a try. I'm glad that they do both soup and stir fry. The process was easy, basically you pick veggies and some skewers from the DIY bar into a large container and they weigh the total mass and calculate the price. We tried spicy level 3 for soup and 2 for stir fry and the stir fry turned out to be quite spicy which satisfied my craving for spicy foods for sure! I personally love their mala xiang guo (stir-fried noodles) but since it's been cold, I have tried their mala hong tang as well. I love being able to choose whatever I want from the variety of options they have and then they cook in the kitchen for you! they are not playing with their spices. even their level 1 is spicy!!!
