As a supporter of local youth activities (in this case Swipe Middle School's Band class) I purchased my annual $20 coupon book. Given I eat out a lot, I frequently use books like this to introduce me to new places and sometimes give me financial encouragement to try a new place I'm on the fence about. Pizza Baron was such a place because the reviews were absolutely average. I had a buy one, get one so I figured I couldn't fare too badly. My taste buds still disagree. First off this place is primarily a bar for locals to hang out. It ALSO serves pizza and wings. I elected to get two deep dish pizzas. I got my order and headed home for to enjoy some food and Netflix. I realized there were already going to be issues when I noticed their version on deep dish was about as deep as every other places' regular crust. Two bites in confirmed I had just wasted money even at half price. The crust was horrific. Picture a box of stale Saltines mashed up and pressed together to make a pale white, nasty crust. It also might contain concentrated evil. I never got a chance to analyze it because both pies went straight in the garbage. I would not even inflict this pizza on someone looking for a handout. The good...Certainly not the pizza. I have seen mixed reviews of the wings. The service was great. If I actually hung out at bars during happy hour, I might even entertain a crack at the wings with a beer or two. The bad...That pizza had to be the worst I've experienced. I would not take another attempt even if paid. Not with a fox, not in a box. Not with a mouse, not in a house. I will not eat it here or there, I will not eat it anywhere. Yes...that bad! Didn't know whether to give pizza baron one or two stars. Went with two due only due to the customer service of the girl who took my phone order and the delivery man. Both were very nice and polite. However, the food was inedible. I am not a picky eater and being very hungry my roommate and I were ready to eat pizza.We ordered the 20.99 large pizza and wing combo. Sounds like a great deal unless the food is gross and all of it goes into the trash. Ordered a cheese pizza which is hard to mess up, however the crust was flavorless and chewy. Also there was an absurd amount of half melted, cheap, chewy what is hard to call cheese present on top of this cardboard crust. Wings were weird and the quality of the chicken was questionable. When you walk in the Pizza Baron on 4th Street in Reno you will find Sports on TV, a Pool Table, Juke Box, Pinball Machines, Claw and Gumball Machines. Despite the fact that all of the signage, banners, posters etc. proudly advertise the Budweiser, Coors, Miller MGD and Pabst Blue Ribbon that is available, they also have a very impressive assortment of other beers on tap that included the following when we were there: Blue Moon Summer Shandy Killian's Red Mammoth Nut Brown XX Sierra Nevada Pale Ale Ballast Point ~ Victory at Sea Top Notch IPA Not fancy, by no means, but the food, friendly service and relaxed atmosphere are the reason they will be celebrating their 45th year in business on the May 31st. read more

Ok, so we were hungry as hell and weren't in the mood for a specific cuisine so making a decision was incredibly hard. Stopped on keystone to look up a place to eat. We looked up and there was this place called pizza baron, and we thought what the heck you can't lose with that. So I was surprised at the quality of the pizza!!! We got fried chicken, wings, salad, and pizza. Never had a crust like this, tasted so so good, and im a Chicago style pizza freak, but this pizza blew my mind. Could not get enough. Top 3 reasons why you should NOT go here: 1. Incompetence. I order a mushroom and olive pizza, the box was taped shut so I didn't check until I got home. When I checked it was completely the wrong order. So I called back and the guy on the phone goes "Are you sure you have the right location, I don't see you here." He puts me on hold for 5 minutes until he's finally able to figure out that yes in fact, I was there! When I bring the pizza back he thoroughly checks because apparently I'm not smart enough to know the difference between an olive mushroom pizza and sausage pizza. And finally he says ughh yeah that's sausage and takes back the pizza. 2. Rudeness. After driving all the way back because of their mistake he shrugs goes "uhhhhh sorry, I'll take 5 bucks off next time." This was the second-worst pizza I've ever had. Firstly, the customer service was great. The guy on the phone was friendly, I wasn't put in hold, and the delivery guy called me when he couldn't find my apartment. We got the large super special pizza. It was pretty expensive for the size it was, $24 for the one pizza and delivery (not counting tip). It was really, really bad. Totally cold, the sauce was very sweet, the cheese was tasteless and congealed, and the crust--ugh, the crust was atrocious. Good part: We ordered on Christmas Eve evening. They came rather quickly and found our hard to find house. The driver was polite and the order was correct. The bad: This was easily one of the worst pizzas we have gotten. Greasy, flavorless; my boyfriend said he had had frozen pizzas that were better than this. After reading reviews and assessing that it was late, a holiday, and our truck was broken, we decided on delivery from here. Avoided the wings as those seemed to be what people disliked the most. Pizza Baron is one of those childhood experiences that will stay deeply embedded in my ventricles forever. I grew up in Northwest Reno, so Pizza Baron (occassionaly Round Table if it was a night to spend $$) was a regular Friday night delivery. It tastes exactly the same as it did over ten years ago, which is a one of a kind taste. Pizza Baron is a nostalgia trip for me, & now I get to pass it down to my daughter (she didn't like it, but what the hell do 3 year olds know?). Now, all the guys are in their mid-20s, & talk about how they USED to be on the varsity team for McQueen. If you want to know exactly what old Reno (yes, I stole that from a review on Google, but they are 100% correct) was before the westerners started hopping the state line a few years ago - spend a weekend night hanging out here. If I could give zero stars I would. We placed an order for delivery because we were staying at the Holiday Inn Express nearby. They said 45 mins to an hour for delivery. We ordered pizza, wings, and cheese poppers, etc. The total was $31+ and a tip for the delivery driver. Well after an hour and ten minutes had passed and still no delivery I called to check the status. The guy I spoke to said well he had 3 deliveries and he should be there soon. He acted like it was no big deal to be late. Well when it finally arrived the pizza was COLD, not even slightly warm. The wings were a nasty mess with sauce dripping thru the cardboard box and freezing cold as well. I called back and asked for the manager. Dave said he was the manager so I explained to him what happened. He said well by his calculations they were ONLY 10 minutes late. This was not true and I said the time wouldn't have been an issue if the food would have been warm. He said they keep the items in warming bags. Well I guess those only work for so long. He had ZERO customer service skills. I knew I wouldn't get a refund so I said I would just suggest the hotel remove them for their book of recommended places to order from. I needed a colander to get all the wing sauce off the wings. I didn't even know how many wing I had gotten because they were drowning under the wing sauce. Next, the pizza. With my last 3 visits the pizzas have been great. Really cheesy the way I like. With very friendly staff especially like Sheryce. (I'm sure I misspelled the name) Great music. Love it when I can feel the beat. Pool table is good if there's anyone to challenge the table. Put your money up if yo gonna challenge a friendly game of pool. Pinball machine's are a great attraction to me also. Dont ever get rid of pinball. Missing a star is because I can never seem to get my wings with any meat on them. The staff inside is friendly, attentive and helpful. It's a bunch of young dudes that hang some with friends (off duty co-workers), but they really attended well to us. It's pretty dive bar, but they do have a little pizza nook in the back (and they serve other food as well). We got a medium many topping pizza and some garlic bread for my client's birthday for about 15 bucks. The pizza took a bit to get (about 18 minutes) so it felt like a bit of a wait. We waited at the bar which has video poker like at most bars. In the corner (front right looking out of the restaurant) there's a large screen tv for sports as well as a few accessory tvs around the place. The pizza was interesting, a slightly different style than that to which I'm accustomed. It was very think and had an unusual oil flavor, I believe from olive oil that made it a lot more sour than I'm used to it being. The pizza was a little on the dry side and is the typical American pizzeria style, with red sauce, raised edge crust and toppings on top of the sauce in melted mozzarella. The toppings were plentiful and overall I enjoyed the pizza, but I think I might like a different oil to predominate the flavor, maybe corn or canola instead of the olive oil because I found the fruity, sour flavor a tiny bit odd, almost worrying me that the oil had turned, but I was certain it had not. Garlic bread was okay. It didn't suck. It didn't blow my mind. I probably wouldn't go again because there are many better options (Papa John's!), but I don't regret it. If I were drinking there (and I think I would enjoy it being a 25-38 year old guy) I think I might get their pizza from time to time, simply due to the convenience of it. read more

I've been to Pizza Baron twice..... once for a quick pick up of wings - Nitro is truly nitro and will set you on FIRE! Gotta love that! The atmosphere was a little strange that night - when we pulled up there were strange looking people at the table outside the door, we werent even sure if we wanted to get out of the car.... inside is dark and dive-like and as we sat at the bar waiting for our food a man sat next to another man and began telling him his troubles with the wife and another man across the bar YELLS - THIS IS THE BARON DONT COME DUMPING YOUR TROUBLES OFF ON US HERE....... and the man with the wife trouble guzzles down his beer and leaves quietly... OK very weird moment! Patrons strange - wings great! The staff is friendly and we got free refills on soda while we waited, which you might rather have a beer it takes the edge off the creepy feeling from the people in there! My 2ed trip was for a pizza, and rib tips....this time we waited in the car!!! There were a lot of people at the bar drinking, a lot of kids playing pool, very loud music - it seemed like a bar that kids had managed to sneak into without getting caught! I can't figure out if this is a bar or a pizza place?? Neither the pizza or the rib tips were too good. The crust appears to be the frozen kind - the toppings must have fallen off before they put it in the box because there was hardly any topping on it. The rib tips - ewwwwww.... Pizza Baron is a Reno Staple, always liked their pizza, especially their crust. It's super crispy on the bottom like a cracker and tastes great. I enjoy the sauce too, has a great flavor. They have a special for the 40th Anniversary $1 Super Cheese slice from 11am-4pm everyday. As you know their Super Slice is more like 2 slices. 50cents to add a topping. I don't like the Pepperoni, tastes like Gallo, I am not a fan of Gallo and I love Pepperoni, probably my favorite topping. The cheese slice is good by itself. I got have gotten Mushroom which is good. Last time it's was stacked mushrooms, today it was about 4.5 pieces on each slice, so wasn't worth the up charge. The ranch dressing is good too. Last time it came w/ my slice this time it didn't. Not sure why, but it's still a solid slice. What's strange was this time I tipped, and last time I didn't. So we just went here for the first time. You drive up and place your order from the car. I ordered my husband a pizza and I ordered the Spaghetti MEAL. I ordered meatballs and mushrooms. Comes with crisp garlic bread. Sound amazing? Got home. My MEAL had NO Meatballs and NO garlic bread. I called them on the phone. Was given the Bum's Rush by a gal that said her Manager was too busy to come to the phone. This, after I put a 4 dollar tip on my debit card for him to walk 4 feet to my car. I mentioned only the missing bread then asked to get the manager on the phone. I did not want to also share the missing meat with the gal on the phone because I did not want to shame her boss.
