Very nice and well laid out Italian restaurant/pizza place. Looks much more upscale than it is, but in a good way. The waiter and staff were good, knowledgable, and efficient. I love that they kept the fluids full. Started off with their standard bread with olive oil. I enjoyed it, but it was probably because it's been a while since I had some not because it was a great item. The buffalo chicken wings were really buffalo nuggets, or perhaps strips. I actually like that they were boneless. But it was a "parts is parts" kind of nugget. It worked for me though. Tasty and filling. We had the Almost Gourmet pizza. That's with sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce. Only we deconstructed it and had it without the mushrooms. The pizza was OK, but nothing special. It worked, but in a town of great pizza joints it didn't stand out. Likely good enough for the kids while the real adults had a pasta dish. I only wish I tried one of those. I was highly disappointed in the lack of service, flavor and resolve for my patronage at this place yesterday. Here's what happened: I arrived with my wife to order a chicken paccata for her and a deep dish, personal veggie twist pizza with pineapples for me. I was told to wait 45 minutes for the order to be prepared and agreed because a deep dish should take this long to prepare. 45 minutes later I pick up a traditional pizza that although it looked good, was not the deep dish I ordered or waited for. My wife's paccata was what she expected but I'll talk about taste later. When I attempted to remind the staff of my request, for deep dish vs the traditional pizza I received, I was rudely told that I "read the menu...". Although, this was true; I also asked questions and was led to a bait and switch situation that made me wait/pay for less than I requested. I complained in person and was being led into an argument so I called to complain, on my drive home, and was apologized to / offered to wait another 45 minutes for another pizza. I didn't want to wait till 8pm for their error and was hungry so I declined the offer. The pizza's and paccata's tastes were just ok. I took care of this, for my wife and I, by doctoring up their flavor using our truffle parmesan black garlic seasoning from costco. With this repair we were satiated. However, we shouldn't have had to repair their lack of culinary execution. Therefore, I took three stars away from my evaluation because they lacked service (to fulfill the order I requested), flavor completeness or the resolve to fully satisfy my complaint (they could have advised me to come another time for their correction) . You've been warned and there are higher quality establishments within walking distance of this one. read more

I believe in the old saying, "when in Rome, do as the Romans do", however my shrimp linguine dish was FLAVORLESS! I don't recall the last time I had a meal THAT horrible! Went for brunch on a beautiful day in Hyde Park. Beware you have to find parking however, i used the Spot Hero app and found something a block a way (barely a block). I had the chicken wrap, and mozzarella sticks and my friend had their salad and garlic bread. I definitely recommend the mozzarella sticks and garlic bread. So so so good. I don't think I've been *inside* Pizza Capri since I was on a date in college about 18 years ago, but this place has become a mainstay of our life since moving back to Chicago. I think the pizza is only okay, though the kids in my life seem to love it, but they have some very nice salads, especially the Abigail's favorite (avocado, chicken, hearts of palm, onion, tomato, mozzarella) which allows us to easily and reliably please multiple members of the family on those days that cooking gets away from me. Why did I have a bad first impression of Capri? 1) Relatively expensive food at Hyde Park - Compared to Giordano's and Edwardo's, Pizza Capri's pizzas are relatively expensive. 2) Association with food delivery - Pizza Capri often delivers food to nearby schools. This delivery image has caused me to never stop by Capri for years until a friend invited me there for dinner. 3) Slow in-house service - During busy hours, Pizza Capri can take at least forty minutes to serve the food. Why did I fall in love with Capri eventually? 1) Consistent food quality - The food at Capri has always been fresh. My favorite dish is the mixed baby green salad, which has strawberries, pecans, cranberries and spinach. I also adore the spinach salad, which has figs, goat cheese, pecans and spinach. 2) Friendly staff - Although I have arrived at the restaurant before the opening hours, I was welcomed by friendly staff. 3) Fast take-out service - Appetizers and salads are ready for take out in 10 to 15 minutes. This evening my husband & i ordered a burger with fries and a a chicken avocado salad. Our UberEats driver gets here with only fries..we ask where is the rest of our food? He says this is the only thing the restaurant gave me. I called the restaurant and a you g lady answers, I explained the issue and she says "oop, well you can tell the driver to come back if he still there" i ask to speak to a manager. The manager (a male) gets on the phone and I re-explain the issue he says is the driver still there he only took 1 thing (mind you we didn't order a lot and the bag was big enough to fit ALL items) . I said no the driver is gone can I come pick up the rest of my order? He says no take it up with Uber. 1.why is each person keep asking is the driver still here as if he lives with me or something 2. How did y'all forget my food as an establishment it's your job BEFORE food is given rather delivery/pickup or in house that EVERYTHING is there 3. I've been going to Pizza Capri for years. Not overly impressive, not bad. It's usually a convenient last ditch effort to subdue ravenous late night hunger. Ironically, I rarely ordered pizza and when I did never deep dish. Pizza Capri is very well known for their pasta. Clearly, I've erred in judgement for a long, long time. I shared a deep dish pepperoni pizza and couldn't believe how good it was. The crust was flakey and had the buttery richness of a croissant. The cheese is high quality and the sauce balanced, albeit slightly sweet. Hyde Park has the reputation as a vast array of mediocre dining options and I mostly agree. Had I only tried the deep dish, I probably would've rated 4 stars. I suggest trying if you're in the area on the hunt for deep dish pizza. read more

Nice sit down restaurant in Hyde Park. The food is good and the staff is friendly. My only real complaint is that the place is small, so evenings and weekends here can be pretty crowded. I get it, we all have our bad days.. however being treated like this on multiple occasions is unacceptable. When I called to place a to-go order, the person on the phone picked up and then hung up on me. The second time I called, the person on the phone asked what I wanted for my order and didn't ask for my name or give an ETA for my food and hung up so I was a bit confused but whatever! They were probably busy and that's somewhat understandable. So I came to pick up my food and the man at the front desk just stared at me when I came up to the counter and I wasn't greeted at all. I can't remember what the other girls ordered. Think it was a salad and a couple of wraps. I ordered spaghetti and meatballs. We all enjoyed immensely. They have redone the place and it's decorated like a French bistro. The ambiance seems to be working! Every table was taken. The most impressive thing though was the warm attentive care you're given. Okay let's just say I used to love this place. I know the pandemic has been bad for some businesses, but let this be a lesson to ALL, please wash your lettuce. As I was enjoying my Grecian Salad, I quickly became disgusted as I found this dead fly wrapped within a piece of my lettuce. Waiter said it's washed in a large spinner in the basement; maybe a fly got blended in or maybe not. At any rate, the salad was returned didn't want another one. Got fries instead, they were really good btw. Pizza on the other hand was okay, I'm mad that without announcing it, they changed their pan crust to just plain ole thin. I ordered pizza & pasta for delivery and was quoted 90 minutes. Not a big deal, they're always slow but my wife likes the pasta, so cool. After waiting 2 hours, I called to check on the food, and got a bunch of crazy answers from the manager. First he told me they called when the driver was in the block, but '... the line was busy...' He gave me a few other excuses, and I finally said I'll just come pick it up. He responded that he didn't have any food to give me, that the order was cancelled and my card was credited (which it wasn't of course).
