I am going to preface and say I am a pizza snob from NY. I have eaten so much pizza from NY and have spots that make amazing stuff. Now that we are in Baltimore, we haven't found a spot. We decided on Pizza di Joey, and hubs and I were impressed. Pretty good pie. We got the pepperoni and it was fantastic. The pepperoni was on point. The cheese, sauce and crust ratio was on point. AMAZING!!!! Saw an article online listing this place as one of the top 101 pizza places in the nation! And it was spot on! We met the owner Joey and he was super friendly and you can see the passion he has for his food. We ordered the Monster Cheese Slice, Jess' Vodka Parm sub and Drunk Grandma's Vodka Slice. The Monster Slice was perfection! Not greasy and the crust is well done with a crisp but still feels like a NY slice. Definitely hit the spot! Jess' Vodka Parm was delicious as well. Sauce was great, bread was soft and pillowy but held up it the filling. Great combinations. Last but certainly not least the Drunk Grandma's Vodka Slice!!! I am not a fan of Sicilian style pizza at all! I don't like the doughy-ness so this slice was for my hubby. However I took one bite and was sold! It was my favorite thing I had. The Pizza is highly overpriced, $5-$9 for one slice of Pizza is outrageous, and you have to pay $1 of you want a box for your slice. Besides the price, the Pizza in itself is way over hyped in my opinion. It is not a bad slice by any means, it's a pretty decent slice, but to say "best in Baltimore"? I don't agree with that. My family was sadly disappointed with our pizza yesterday. It was cold, the cheese coagulated, the crust was doughy, and the driver was late. My family was salivating, and the tastes of disappointment and "Meh" killed our joy. This pizza, in the past, has caused me to hunt the food truck like it was truffles! I would fight tailgaters lines for it. I would leave my job and walk parking lots in Laurel for it. I was deliciously happy to find out through a neighbor this establishment started delivering. I was confident the price of 42.00 for the 24 inch Pie (5 buck delivery charge) was worth it. Outside of supporting my favorite pizza guy since the brick oven truck parked outside of the wine and spirts store days in Pigtown ~ circa 2014, it was not. I'm hoping this is a result of the pressures the place is under with COVID-19 and they have not fallen off. Hopefullly the team is just stressed. You know its sad when the employees (who looking at the comments about their service) have to give good reviews about the place. The Owner (Joey) has probably forced them to do it. All I heard or seen of him when I was there was him screaming at employees and at a few customers. You can tell that he mostly chose the good reviews to respond to. Telling someone to read the sign that saying closed is not the way to treat a customer. Think it is a family run with his mother taking orders, lets everyone know she is a Jersey girl and doesn't take anything from anyone. Hard to make a living when the staff looks down on customers. Just tried this earlier...i grew up in NYC and I take crust very seriously, the crust here is exactly what I wanted, the distribution of cheese was great, not too much not too little, the sauce however was a bit of a disappointment, I give the pizza a 6.5 out of 10. What got me were the prices, $6 or basic cheese $7 for pepperoni and $9 for a specialty slice, the man ahead of me ordered a whole pie for FORTY FIVE DOLLARS. Yes the slices are about 25% larger than average but at a 100% premium...If you want a box for your slice its an extra dollar. I really don't understand the audacity of these people? Is the rent really so high at cross street market? Do they pay their employees $15 an hour (which I would support) or do they just understand that there are enough gullible twenty somethings who are willing to overpay for pizza that is merely somewhat decent? read more
