Been to this place before and it was good but tonight we went in to get slices and ended up paying $17 for 2 slices and bread sticks which is ridiculously expensive! I hate to give bad reviews, but I have no choice with the kind of service we got here. It was my daughter's birthday party and we ordered pizza from Pizza Express for the first time. It was a simple order of 2 large cheese and 1 large pepperoni...can't go wrong...right? I was told the order will take 30 minutes. I sent my husband and my brother in law to pick up the pizzas right on time. They didn't come back for over an hour (we live close by). I was really worried about them! When they got home they asked me "where did you find this place? this place was simply crazy". So apparently when they arrived there was only one worker there answering the phone, making pizzas and performing customer service! To make matters worse, they described him as a tweaker who seemed to be high on something while working. This person finally gets off the phone with other customers and my husband tells him he is there to pick up the pizza we ordered. He says: "oh that order! Right away sir." And my husband watches in amazement as he takes out dough and STARTS to make the pizzas we ordered almost an hour earlier. Meanwhile the kids at my house are waiting for pizza. To make matters worse when its time to pay for the pizza, the guy tells my husband there is a charge to use credit cards! Really? And today I see on my on line banking statement that we have been charged twice for the same order by Pizza Express. COME ON! read more

Great tasting fresh quality pizza with an almost buttery goodness to the cheese - DELICIOUS! Red sauce does have a fresh tasting oregano taste which I'm not usually a fan of but the flavor profile was just so balanced that you can almost taste every quality ingredient which is not something I find myself saying...about pizza! First time here and was so pleasantly welcomed with a positive attitude and appreciation for supporting them, I was greeted by the son of the operation such a beautiful welcome made me and my family feel there was some good energy when preparing our order and I understand it's not the easiest to be this pleasant during this time; it was refreshing and well received. We only tried the cheese, it was delicious the day of and next for leftovers. ***One recommendation for the kids - they may want a different sauce to try than the red if they tend to be on the more on traditional palate for pizza (no oregano taste, this has a distinct oregano taste at least the night we went) for the more sophisticated palate I believe you will find it speaks volumes for the quality. This is hands down the best pizza around (The only thing close is in Little Italy in the city and it is three times the price and a different kind of pizza)! AJ owns the place and when he says that he guarantees it to be the best you better believe it. Amazing pizza at an amazing price. We get pizza here at least once a week. I ordered my pizza from here, thinking that I was calling the Pizza Express on Center Street. I was unfazed though, thinking, "It must be the same quality!". Oh how I was mistaken. As I walked in to pick up my half Hawaiian half Supreme pizza, the one worker there was walking out. Upon seeing me, he expressed his disappointment (albeit jokingly) in my disruption of his cigarette break. However, he was friendly and provided adequate service. THEN... I got home and opened the pizza box to find myself staring at a horrendous pizza. Charred all along the top, and on the supreme side... DISASTER. Apparently whoever made the pizza forgot the sausage and olives so instead of remaking the pizza, they plastered the already cooked pizza with a mess of cheese and missing toppings. This is a neighborhood pizza place that we have always trusted and have been long time customers with. However, we had a large party recently and put in a big order and my husband got way overcharged. But because he is a reasonable man he paid them anyway and before we even received the pizza. I called to try to get the money back that we were owed (about $30), we got the run around from the owner big time and he gave us a little bit back but only half of what we were owed. The term I would use is "smoke and mirrors" to describe the treatment we received. This is very disappointing because we have always trusted this place and got so blatantly ripped off. We waited for almost an hour for our pizza, when we got it was, it wasn't cut, the cheese came right off, little to no sause. And when we try to ask for the refund, he didn't want to give us the full refund because "we ate some of it" well we needed to try it so we could see if it was good . I think this spot is under new ownership. The first time I went in ( a few months ago) a haggard looking guy was trying to run the whole operation on his own. I wound up leaving because he wasn't friendly, he looked like he was about to crack and the place was pretty dirty (as in New York dirty). I had a craving for a slice last night (hard to get in the Bay) and remembered this spot. I believe it is now run by a nice Indian family. Very friendly people -- very yucky pizza. It was awful! Maybe I am spoiled by New York pizza but the crust was too thick -- think pita bread texture. It looked like they had pre-baked the pie and then added more cheese (only a sprinkle mind you) and stuck it back in the oven. But before we finished the phone call I said cancel pepperoni and make it like the first except with red sauce to which she confirmed. We get the pizza and one is pepperoni. We call back and the woman who answered who is the owners wife argues and interrupts me saying it was my fault and I ordered it wrong. I said calm explained I didn't. King Kong or Mac daddy the biggest and or heaviest slices u can get. I am extremely picky about pizza and I used to order from the other guys in the area but once u try them well. U can see the veggies the ingredients actually taste like they are suppose too. Look up the deals or call them up they will hook u up. Plus a big pizza takes time to cook so expect 30-45 min to get a master peace of a family meal. I needed pizza and I needed it fast. This wasn't only fast (by the slice, anyway) but really good. The crust had just enough crisp and crunch, but also had a surprisingly delicious thick chewiness. Very good. The fellow behind the counter was extra friendly. He was really helpful on the phone when I called in, before I came in, to ask about hours. He didn't just give his hours at this location but let me know about the other location too, just in case that would be easier for me. Who does that? Awesome. This review is for Pizza Express, Hayward. Unfortunately I have to write a negative review on this restaurant. I ordered the calzone with 2 toppings and free 2 liter soda. I order extra toppings and another 2 liter soda. Twice now they have brought only one 2 liter soda. The first time the driver brought one can of soda, said he was new and that he didn't know. I said it was clear on my order and I pointed it out to him. He said he would bring back the soda. He did, only 4 hours later. He said he was too busy. Then he said he would have been sooner, but he dropped and broke the soda. It was clear that not only did he not drop the soda, but that he had no intention of returning. He did return after 2 calls to Grub Hub customer service. The second time I called customer service because the driver said I will return at the end of the day, if I have time. Customer called the store and they said, we will refund your soda, but we will not redeliver it. I said, well that's a shame because I've only put up with it this long because the calzone is so good. Well, it's not good enough for me to put up with rudeness from the store mgr and the drivers so I will not be ordering from Pizza Express again. I saw from other reviewers that I am not alone in my feelings about Hayward Pizza Express. I will say that Customer Service reps at Grubhub are great! They are friendly, polite and very helpful. Swung by here because I needed something fast where I didn't have to wait in some long line to pick up. They've a big sign posted that mentions any slice of pizza takes 2-3 mins to prep. This sign is outdated and realistically it takes 4-6 minutes to bake because it takes time to go over the conveyor belt through the oven. But It was tasty as usual and I got it in a very sturdy to-go box, as opposed to a flimsy paper plate. read more
