Apparently my Pizza Guys is now under new ownership. How do I know this? Because I can't stop eating their pizza! Went in a few weeks back because I had to stop at the Rite-Aid next door anyway. I do not understand why this place has 3.5 stars! I ordered a large half Tuscan Garlic Chicken and half Hawaiian delight on thin crust and they were spectacular. On top of great pizza, they also have amazing customer service. The Tuscan Garlic Chicken was rich, garlicy, and fulfilling - everything that I had anticipated from its' name. The Hawaiian Delight had a fair amount of toppings and the red sauce just ties everything together. I really love Pizza Guys' very balanced red sauce since it is not too acid or too sweet. For me, the crust itself is one of the most important factors of a quality pizza. The one on my pizza was perfect - crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and not too yeasty. My husband ordered a large pizza tonight and we were delivered a medium. Mistakes happen. I called Pizza Guys and they were apologetic about the mistake and asked if we would take a $10 credit towards our next pizza but told him we'd rather have the pizza. Heck we were hungry. The man told me they would send it but that it would take 45 minutes because they were busy. I told them that would be ok we would wait. Just found one of the best affordable pizza spots in San Jose. Thanks to Yelp Elite Events. Now I have a new food option for FIFA nights. I really liked the All Meat Pizza, which comes with red tomato sauce, bacon, salami, pepperoni, italian sausage and mozzarella. I think I liked the fact that the dough and toppings were really well cooked, especially the tiny little crispy and crunchy bacon and sausage bits. Also got to try the Crunchy Club Pizza which comes in a thin crust with creamy garlic sauce, bacon, tomatoes, green onions, mozzarella and cheddar. For a quick pick-up or delivery pizza place, this location of Pizza Guys just hit me with some great service and excellent pizza and wings. Those Yelp Elite events knows how to pick'em. I ordered a large pizza, half Hawaiian Delight and half Buffalo Chicken, and an order of Mango Habanero wings. The wings were flavorful and hearty. They were a little small for someone with my hunger but they did the job. The pizza on the other hand was made in respectable time. The Hawaiian Delight side was exactly what I remember when I think of Hawaiian pizza; nice pieces of pineapple, Canadian bacon, and a good amount of cheese packed all the way to crust is what I remember as a kid. Thanks for the flashback. The Buffalo chicken side was a hard sell for me, but they sold me. It had a fair amount of buffalo sauce, not overwhelming, nice amount of chicken, and good amount of cheese. It was nice combination for a buffalo pizza. I ordered it without onions. For me, it's about service, so that's what I noticed first. The person who helped me was Tasha (at least that's what the receipt says). Her warm and friendly attitude made me feel comfortable talking about the menu and asking her for advice. She knew the menu well and even helped me with my Yelp Elite reservation. I usually really like Pizza Guys. They have some really good specialty pizzas and even though they aren't cheap they aren't crazy expensive either. Tonight I decided to pay the extra $3 for cheese in the crust on a large crisp cup pepperoni. Big mistake. That had to be one of the worst pizzas that I have had in a long time. Not sure if it was a bad batch of dough or they just need to work on making it better, but even my wife complained and she never complains. I hate to say it, but Little Caesar's is way better at their cheese in the crust pizza. You know a place is real good when parents confess that it has the "best pizza" they have ever had. For me, that was the case with Pizza Guys. I had the great pleasure of trying out Pizza Guys in San Jose thanks to YELP, and boy was it a chill experience! The food was good, the process was very streamlined, and best of all everyone was happy! Pizza Guys (not to be confused with Pizza Hut) is a well-established chain located all throughout the West Coast, with most of its locations in California and some in Oregon and Nevada. The Pizza guys in San Jose - the one I recently went to - is situated on the always-popular Winchester Blvd. The nice features about this location are that 1. It's fairly close to a number of major streets/highways (i.e.. San Tomas Expressway, Highway 17, Freeway 280), making transportation SUPER EASY; and 2. The parking lot that Pizza Guys is in IS HUGE, meaning parking will be a breeze. From the outside, this place looks eerily similar to what you would find at a lower-end pizza joint such as Papa John's, Pizza Hut, etc. In fact, I think the Pizza Guy's location in Santa Clara used to be a Papa John's. But a closer inspection will reveal so much more...On one hand, Pizza Guys will have the usual ingredients that you are used to such as Canadian bacon, sausage, etc. They'll also have other options, including flatbread pizzas, salads, and pastas. On the other hand, this place RAISES THE BAR by also offering a whole line of gluten free options, having a simplistic and navigable website (with options to create your own account), AND by being super transparent about the prices and everything. Like, Pizza Guys doesn't do anything incredibly special, but I just love the fact that you know exactly what you are paying for + they even show you how many sizes you get! In terms of pricing, it's around $12 for a good small, $17 for medium, $22 for large, and $25 for extra-large (assuming you add ~3 ingredients). After spending forever on the menu, I ended up getting a large pizza with basil, Italian sausage, and Canadian bacon. Per instructions from YELP, I called ahead of time to order, and for once, talking on the phone was SEAMLESS! I really want to give a shoutout to the person taking my order because she was SO PATIENT! She kept apologizing for reconfirming my ingredients, but NO WORRIES I would have stayed on the call forever because she was so nice (jk). I was told my order would be ready within 15 minutes, and sure enough it was! Everyone working at the time was SUPER FRIENDLY. Like, I just love the welcoming culture that they inspire at Pizza Guys. Needless to say, the pizza was pretty good! As far as non-gourmet, "fast-food" pizza goes, this place can take the cake (or pizza?). The bacon wasn't overly crispy, the sausages were JUICY, and the basil added another PERFECT level of flavor. I also loved that the pizza wasn't oily AT ALL and the tomato sauce wasn't overbearing! But the best part had to be the fact that both my girlfriend AND her parents LOVED THE PIZZA! Like I can't get out of my head how in love my girlfriend's dad was with the pizza. All in all, will I be back to Pizza Guys? YES! It's hard to please everyone, but it seems like this place can pull it off. Great food and amazing service, what more can you ask from a pizza joint? The only real downsides were that portion size was a bit small, and pricing could be slightly more generous ($22 seems a bit high). To me, pizza places fall into one of four categories: 1) Sit-down, dine-in pie joints. 2) Delivery places. 3) On-the-go slice of pizza shops. 4) Pizza made in New Haven, CT (The New Haven stuff is legendary. But technically it is not pizza, it is "apizza") I hold pizza places in each of these categories to a different standard, because each targets a different buyer behavior and the end product reflects this. My expectation when ordering pizza for delivery is that it's convenient because they bring it to me, comes relatively fast, is reasonably priced and tastes better than a frozen pizza I may or may not have in my freezer. I have hit Pizza Guys up twice lately because they frequently stick coupons on my door and I don't order pizza enough to have any specific brand loyalty. My first experience was good enough to try it again and I'm sure I'll go for it again in the future if they keep bringing me coupons. FIRST TIMER One of the coupons on my door offered two large pizzas for the price of one, but I had to call, I couldn't order online, and I couldn't use this coupon with any other specials. Fine, I'm in. I don't know what I was thinking, I'm one dude, why do I need two pizzas? One dude, two pizzas is arguably better than two girls, one cup, butt it all just plays into the classic male mentality of wanting more than we really need, I suppose. Gluttony, guilty, deadly, I know. I ordered a BBQ chicken pizza and a meat lovers. I also ordered a two litre soda. The total with tax and tip was over $30 on a two-fer. That was spendy, but I don't mind if the quality is on-the-level. Well, the pizza was good and I was still liking it four days later when I was still eating leftovers (why order so much? stupid). The service on the phone was super-pro-fantastic. The food came quickly. SECOND TIME AROUND Last week a miracle coupon again appeared on my front porch. I didn't want to cook. I think I learned my lesson about two at the same time, so I spotted a extra large three topping for a sweet price deal and went for that. I also tried the pesto bread sticks and decided to try the online ordering system. Ordering online was a little clunky but I made it through. The bill with tax and tip came in a little above $30. Spendy again. Remember this was WITH a coupon. TG for that. This time the food was equally good pizza-wise, but the pesto on the bread sticks sucked bad. Pesto is easy to make: basil, olive oil, pine nuts, a little parm and/or peccorino and bam! The 2 stars is really only for the pizza. It's really good pizza and my partner and I enjoy the pizza a lot. The issue is that my partner likes marinara sauce with their pizza and getting the marinara sauce from the pizza place that we buy from is ideal honestly. So, we bought 5 marinara sauces with our two large pizzas (lasts us longer that way). The pizza shows up with....5 ranches????? We try to explain that we ordered the marinara sauce and the delivery person tells us to call pizza guys store. We call the pizza guys store (and I get it if it's busy) and we get told basically sorry, our mistake, but we can't get the marinara sauce to you. They did credit us for our next order, BUT it's such a simple request that it's kind of making us rethink about ordering from here again. We're out the money that we spent on the marinara sauce and have ranch that we don't want and will not use. AND the manager said that it was "7 frickin' dollars" that he was crediting us for our next order. So, essentially, pizza is decent, but the customer service leaves a lot to be desired. read more
