Oh Pizza man my Pizza man... Well, in my 8 or so years living in Eagle River, I can't tell you how many times I frequented this little gem of a pizza place.. And that's why I feel it's incumbent upon me to spread the word, and try to lead my fellow pizza lovers to some absolutely great grub. First of all, their sauce is just delicious! Oh boy! There's something about it that has a very sweet quality, but a bit tangy and spicy at the same time. It really runs a number on your taste buds, and is sure to keep your mouth watering through your entire meal. It's locally owned, so it has that very hole-in-the-wall feel, even though it's virtually on the highway. Secondly, the service is always very kind, quick and knowledgeable. You're greeted as soon as you walk in (although the weird double-door always throws me off, it's a bit awkward), and are sat according to where you'd like to sit. They have a few local beers on tap, and your server will inform you as to what's currently in stock. So, if you ever find yourself taking a trip out to Wasilla/Palmer from Anchorage, and are in the mood for some great pizza, don't punish yourself and not check this place out. Give it a shot, there's some absolutely great pizza to be discovered here. Before you know it, you'll find yourself a regular, and are hopelessly addicted to the greatness that is pizza. P.s. The older I get the less charming Pizza Man becomes. When you're in high school it rocks because the food is cheap and you can get a date in and out for less than a twenty spot, when you turn 21 you want to go get scooners because it's Eagle River and you can walk back to your parents' house and pass out, hoping you don't stumble into the Homestead and get crabs on your way there. But once you get into your late 20's, especially without kids, there's not a lot left to charm you. The pizza is good, sure, but I'd rather eat it at home. Scooners are no longer interesting because I get motha fuckin' hangovers now. In short.. a resounding meh. read more

This place has been around for years and I've always loved it, only once was our pizza a little over done, otherwise this place is great. When ordering over the phone, we always order the same things, and some how the totals are always drastically different. Once it was 30 something dollars and another time it was 50 something. I think they are always get new phone girls/employee's who either don't know math or prices, or know what they are doing? IDK. I actually love their pizza and their food- but their delivery time on a weekend averages 90 minutes- 2 hours. Pizza Man management, this has been on going for nearly a year. Hire extra help on weekends to meet your demands. read more

Pizza Man will always be a family favorite of ours. There isnt an abundance of restaurants in Eagle River, dis-including fast food, but Pizza Man always seems to be the go-to. Update. I was persuaded to try it again, and it was a dine-in meal. I had a poor experience with their delivery pizza, but the dine- in was good. Good service and food although we went with some pasta dishes instead of pizza. Pretty good food and the service was good. I have been eating here for years, the service is usually pretty good, the food is always tasty, but the orders get screwed up a lot. What to try: The Pizza is an obvious choice. The crust is soft yet crispy with a slightly sweet flavor. the sauce is spot on and the cheese is always piled on. Absolutely delicious but absolutely expensive. The real hidden gem here is the sandwiches...... They are made out of basically loves used for garlic bread. Soft and delicious on the outside and toasted on the outside. I usually get the ham and cheese but have tried them all and been quite happy. I would give the 4 stars but they screw up my order 25% of the time. Lastly... the salad bar is probably the best in the Anchorage bowl area! Give these guys a try and 75% of the time you will leave here satisfied. read more

If for some reason you've read my other reviews on food distribution sites, you are bored, need a hobby, and may have picked up the value I place on customer service. In terms of money, I'm still getting used to the high cost of living. It hurts my wallet so baaaaaaaaaad. A large pizza here is 17" and $20 something. The place is small enough, and easy to get to. It's right next to the highway. It has all the earmarks of a small Italian place. Cozy, cheap lighting, an atmosphere that can go date or family night-out. I like it. So I ordered a large pepperoni to go. I stood around for about 10 minutes at the front counter. Just to pick up. Now, the staff was walking around. Busy night. It was packed. I get it. But getting ignored, and then that "making eye contact but deliberately looking away with that I-don't-have-time-for-you" look, what the hell. It wasn't just one person either, it was 2 or 3 people ignoring me until one of the younger waitresses asked me in a very perky voice if I'd been helped. Now, the Pizza itself was pretty good. I don't think I've ever had a pie with too much sauce, but this kind of bordered on it. Weird. Taste and texture though, I think I've found my pizza place. I'd give it more stars but I just can't on the grounds of their staff. I understand that you're busy, but make time, get good at faking a smile, or at least acknowledge the customer's standing there and say something, or post someone up by the register. Shape up. Good food is hard to come by and I love knowing a place serves good food, but good staff? Well I can deal with beer and mediocre food if the staff is good. I come from a world of powdered eggs and food-like mush held together by preservatives. My standards for what defines bad food are pretty low. Or high. Whatever means bad food has to be really bad to be bad. In terms of cost, it's a little on the expensive side, but hey, Alaska right? I'd like to go back and give it another chance. You want to talk about a bad experience? 30 minutes to get sliced tomatoes and cheese and a salad. 1.5hrs to get a gyro (3 cold pieces of lamb meat and 20 slices of onions), rice pilaf (lemon flavored goop- I would call it rice but it was in a pudding state which I paid $3 extra for), and baked ziti that was cold... I don't even think she realized it took so long because we only saw her when she dropped off our waters, topped off our drink and delivered our food- 3 times in that 1.5 hrs. While she giggled and sang along with the music with coworkers standing behind the wall our table was against. We weren't the only ones. A guy also requested a box due to his lengthy wait. This was our first time. You can bet we won't be back. Ruined our date night for sure. Not to mention when they heard we were dissatisfied they laughed behind the counter and we heard them talking about us "immediately asking for the check when you get your food is rude". Not even a dollar off our check $57 of our hard spent money- gone; what a waste. I get it can be busy but for pasta and a gyro... come on now. Coming from Chicago, I've tried a Pizza or two.. This stuff was great. Can't remember which pie I got, but I think it was a specialty pizza with hot sausage. Great stuff. Cool selection of beer. Waitress made a recommendation and I drank two. Thanks for the great pizza. Will be back on my next business trip in the area. read more

We waited at the "Please Wait to Be Seated" sign for eight minutes before being growled at by a VERY young woman. Seven minutes later we were led to our table. There were MANY open tables and no apparent reason for the wait. .. other than the total disregard of the waitstaff. Once seated, Mary V was our waitress. She was lovely and professional though a bit overwhelmed with too many tables. When our food finally arrived, my "whole" order of ravioli ($13) consisted entirely of seven pre-made, frozen type ravioli and 3/4 cup of meat sauce. Instead of being a meal we could share, it was something my 6 year old ate by himself. My husband's chicken parmesan was thoroughly under cooked. ... cold and raw in the middle. When I told the "manager, " (the VERY young woman from earlier), her EXACT words were, "huh....soOOry...." Despite the manager's huffy pseudo apology, the waitress came over, asked what was wrong and took the meal off of our bill. The salad bar is full of pre-packaged food and salads. Lest you think the service is sub-par for the clientele, here's who was near us: one table of customers had a fake "service" dog that kept getting up until the lady yelled at it. The table behind us was especially loud and watching videos on full speaker. The table across from us was full of children playing with toys and in and under the table. Great pizza! Ordered the pizza man special. I don't normally like a thick crust, but the crust was delicious. I found myself eating 1/4 of a large pizza. Great amount of toppings and cheese. Really good pizza and I'm not a huge pizza lover. Delivery was also fast with a very friendly driver. Great experience for delivery pizza. read more

Decent pizza. The last two times we ordered, something was left or not made correctly. Asked for bacon on the side of salad when we called and during pick up- bacon all over salad. Handed bag and got home without paid canned beverages. Probably busy, but good to make sure the ordered are correct and customers leave with what they paid for. read more

Lines are always long for a reason but it's quick seating. Simply said, good quality pizza with good quality salad and good quality beer. For some reason, beer tastes better here. This is one of my favorite pizza joints in the Anchorage area but if I lived in Eagle River, it would be the only place I would go to eat pizza with some beer. read more

This place has the best salad bar in town. The baked ravioli or hot turkey sub is my favorite.

This pizza is worth the drive. We live in Wasilla and drive out of our way because their pizza is so delicious. The crust is fresh and tastes like hand tossed. Every type of pizza that we have eaten has been super delicious and when we got home with our leftovers they didn't last very long before we ate every last piece. Best pizza in Eagle River hands down. Food: pizza is the reason to try Pizza Man. I would say Pizza Man pizza rivals just about any pizza joint in Anchorage. Lots of toppings to choose from, very tasty sauce and good dough. What more could you ask for. As far as the other dishes go, they're pretty tasty as well. They make the bread for their subs out of their pizza dough so you know the bread is fresh. Very good stuff overall. And if you're dining in they have a pretty decent salad bar. As far as the food goes, 5 stars all the way. Service: it is what it is. It's a pizza joint, not a five star restaurant. That being said the wait staff is usually very young and it seems that turnover is high, as you might expect. We've had very good service while dining in on many occasions and then we've also had the very worst service you could imagine a few times in a row. Atmosphere: uncomfortable seating, outdated decor, the place is usually jam packed so moving about is a pain (trips to the salad bar on a busy day can be an adventure) and there are usually lots of noisy little kids to deal with (bless their little hearts). It's just one of those places. Again it is what it is. You either go in knowing what to expect and deal with it or you order take-out or delivery and not have to deal with the other stuff. Obviously I'm not a huge fan of eating-in at Pizza Man. I would much rather get take-out and eat at home and not have to deal with all the noise and uncomfortable seats. Beverages: the one saving grace about eating-in at Pizza Man is the fact that they have a surprising selection of craft brews to choose from and their schooner of beer at under $9 (32 oz) makes the dine-in experience a little more tolerable. read more

Pizza mans salad bar with dressing on the side, double order of chicken and garlic bread is the best way to go after hike with group of girls on Tuesday night. My favorite is Alena's Pizza: thin cross, white sauce, chicken, cooked tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, Pineapples, olives. You have to try it. Three stars is generous. The good: tasty crust with char. Pizza was hot when we got it home. The bad: pizza was a sloppy, wet mess. There was a ton of cheese to the point it completely overwhelmed the pizza. Not a single taste of mushroom or onion, just a mystery meat texture somewhere under the cheese. The pizza was not cut properly despite very obviously having been cut twice. When we re-cut it at home the pizza oozed liquid. The crust was too thin(definitely at super thin and crispy crust thickness vs regular pizza) for the amount of toppings and the sogginess didn't help. The skinny half of the pizza sagged and fell apart. Pretty unappealing. The flavor of the pizza was off. I can't put my finger on what it was but there was just an unpleasant flavor somewhere in there. The cheese bread was warm but also the bread and the melted cheese on top were very firm and a bit difficult to eat. I assume it was very old. It took more than an hour to get this one carry out pizza and cheese bread. We ordered at 9pm long after the dinner rush should have been over. Long story short, if you have no other options then this will feed you. It won't be cheap though at $30 a pizza. read more

My favorite pizza place of all time!! My favorite date night, whether ordering in or out. The bbq chicken pizza is to die for. The girls that work there are all super adorable and sweet. We've never had a bad dining experience, and their tap selection is always great :) It's a pretty old school pizza place, and I don't really mind the setting at all. It's a little crowded though, especially between the door and the counter with people coming and going and picking up orders. We did wait like an hour one time for our pizza to be made even though we ordered it on our way home from anchorage...which takes a half hour and the girl on the phone told us 30 mins. They also charge a lot for their ranch so make sure you add it to your order beforehand (it's worth it though). Too bad I can't leave 0 stars. Shall we talk about Pizza mans service ? 20 minutes to greet a table ? And it's probably only because I had to walk up and ask the server for water. Who took another 8 minutes to bring us the waters (yes. I did indeed time is all). This poor business would do so good if It wasn't for the face of the restaurant a.k.a servers (not all) messing it up. Being a server in a high volume restaurant; I know how tough serving can be but when it's very clear that my server only has 3 tables... it's disappointing to have crappy service for no reason. No eye contact was made with anyone at the table. It was so uncomfortable that my guests with me asked that we leave. Though the pizza is good. Well where do I begin? So we walked in waited about 5 min before they could find a table for us, when there where about 8 tables open. Once seated, It took 10 minutes to even be greeted by our server she would look right at us and never said "be right with you" nothing. We ordered our food and drinks all together and took a 1 1/2 hours to get a small pizza,sandwich and a kids spaghetti!!! Meanwhile no refills on drinks and our server never once came and said "let me check on your food meanwhile my kids are having meltdowns. Got our food and my sandwich was awful but the pizza was at least good. This was a MONDAY night and not busy at all. read more

Pizza was fine, but service was horrible. After being seated it took over 15 minutes before we were greeted by a server and given an opportunity to order drinks. It took another 10 minutes to get us a glass of water and a soda. Our food order (one medium pizza) took more than an hour from the time we placed the order, and in the mean time, our drinks were empty and we were only checked in on once by our server. Excellent classic pizza, IMO the best in Anchorage and Eagle River [I don't consider Moose's Tooth to be classic in style]. Excellent subs and other fare too.
