I have been eating at Pizza Man since I was a kid, for over twenty years. Although I do enjoy their huge schooners of beer, I have seen the quality of their pizza decline drastically in recent years. The pizza we picked up tonight was rubbery and burnt which appears to be a pattern for them. The sauce also has a spicy tangy sort of tinge that doesn't mix well. Every couple of months I order from here thinking it will be better but it hasn't been. If you choose to dine in, the place is always packed and the carpet is filthy, with ground up food mashed into it. Personally I think that a carpeted restaurant is nasty, but I'm a clean freak. On a positive note, although the pizza is gross and expensive, the subs and salad bar are good and cheap. read more

You can always tell when a restaurant takes its clientele for granted. My son and his family were visiting us in Eagle River and he thought it would be a good idea to order pizza from pizza man. After waiting for an hour and 10 minutes, The pizza it's still not been delivered even though they were certainly quick to take my payment. I called and was told they were very busy and that it would still be 10 more minutes before we received our pizza! After waiting 10 minutes and Peter had not arrived I called back and asked to speak to the manager. Someone that I could barely understand was told while I was on the phone that I could not speak to manager unless I gave a specific reason! When I explained how long we have been waiting for the pizza, second person that I spoke to insisted that I had only been an hour and 15 minutes since we had ordered and she was OK with that and was then told that I could not speak to the manager as no manager was available! When we finally received pizza another 10 minutes later or over an hour and 20 minutes after we ordered it, they left out the chicken topping even though we specifically Asked for it when we ordered. When my daughter-in-law called to tell them about the missing chicken, they insisted she bring back the partially eaten pizza so they could look at it before they would issue a new pie! Not only did Pizza Man have an unacceptably long delivery wait time but their managerial style and extremely poor customer m service is also unacceptable. I would advise others to think twice before they order pizza for delivery on a Sunday night in particular. I will never order pizza from them again. I believe they take their customers for granted, all too aware that as consumers we have few choices in Eagle River. read more

I've tried to like the Pizza Man for years because there are limited options in Eagle River. Pizza is nothing special at all - don't recommend the subs either. I do not get the hype about this place. ONE WORD; SOGGY. we ordered to take out and it all sucked. people were relatively friendly except a comment one waitress made when I was taken back about the hour wait for pick up. Anyways we ordered a pizza, something that passed as bruschetta, what they call wings but was just soggy chicken with no flavor, and garlic cheese bread. The wings were the nasty thing i have ever had, and i am praying I do not get food poison, the pizza was ok, but honestly pizza hut has more flavor, I like authentic pizza this was not. Great place for beers. Lots on tap. Great prices. Pizza was okay. Too salty and the sauce was a bit over powering. Also I prefer a thinner crust. I attempted to use a Groupon deal I purchased. I didn't realize it was dine in only when I purchased it. That is my mistake. However, when I showed up to pick up my $50 order and was told I couldn't use the Groupon (valued at $40), the owner would not try to find a way to honor it. I drove 20 minutes for pizza (when there is pizza all over the Anchorage area), it was 7:15 and my family was already hungry. The young ladies working there wanted to help me, and were kind, but their owner/manager that would never come out and tell me himself, would not let them find a way to satisfy the customer. The place was bursting with people and I'm only one person so I wasn't important enough to try and take care of. I was under the impression that something would be done to try and make it work. I presented multiple scenarios that would work but the owner would not sign off on. By 8:00, nothing was done. I did not purchase the pizzas and the owner just voided the ticket. The owner of Pizza Man was willing to lose a customer, lose many references, and not find a way to even come and tell me to my face (I could hear him advising the ladies from the kitchen) that he doesn't care about my business. What a disappointment. Service is extremely important to me and I am a loyal consumer and prefer small, local businesses. Pizza Man lost my business and has earned a negative review anytime someone asks me about pizza in Alaska now, but then again, I'm sure they don't really care. read more

I am so sad to give this review, but after countless times ordering delivery and picking up in the past 4 months Pizza Man has gone downhill. I'm going to say this- the pizza is delicious, but the customer service is unfortunately the reason I will not be ordering from here for quite some time. We recently moved to Eagle River and enjoy going to Pizza Man. They have good pizza, a great beer selection and it's very kid friendly!

Popped in for lunch, and had the special which meant salad bar and 1/2 order of lasagna. Very tasty, came out hot. The salad bar was fresh mixed greens with lots of extras including pickled asparagus spears. The garlic bread was hot, and crispy. This pizza crust is excellent, I think they make it from scratch. The subs are wonderful, it's the bread they use that makes them so good, and I believe they make their salad dressings from scratch. Nice salad bar. The back banquet room is beautiful, and you get a coldstone cake for free if you have a large party there. It's been open for like 27 years, and still the same as always. GREAT! Small building and can get really crowded during peak hours, but the pizza is great. They use "home style" toppings that taste a lot better than what's used by national chain pizza franchises. My favorite so far is the hot pizza with jalapeños. read more

As a fairly regular customer of pizza man I have had a variety of their items, my favorite three are: Pizza(pepperoni mostly), Subs(usually steak and cheese), and Fettuccini Alfredo(with shrimp!). It has above average service, all waitresses are very kind and for the most part keep your drinks full. I think it earns a solid 4 star ratting, it would have a 5 but it is a little iffy on the consistency, mostly with the subs. Sometimes they are amazing but every once in awhile they come out subpar, of course it's called "Pizza man" not "sub man" so this is understandable, the pizza is always amazing maybe even the best in town! What has happened to pizza man?! We prefer to support local businesses and have ordered from pman often for delivery. When we first moved here 22 years ago we were told this was the best place for pizza delivery and have been loyal customers. The last few times we have ordered, our order has been wrong. I chose not to complain until last night when it was wrong yet again. We placed an order and were told the wait time would be an hour and 10 min which was perfect. After an hour and 40 min, I called to check on our order and was told the delivery driver had it en route. Fifteen min later (so now a total of an hour and 50 min) our order arrived. Once again, one pizza which was supposed to be thin crust was regular, the pizza was tepid at best and the cheese looked like it had been thrown on haphazardly and did not even come close to the edge of the pizza. In addition, we ordered a large tub of ranch and they gave us two smalls instead. I called to complain and the guy answering the phone said "let me see what I can do for you" after waiting on hold for what felt like forever, I gave up and hung up. He had my name and number. I understand they were extremely busy; however, any place with decent customer service would have called me back either later in the evening or today. I am sad to say we will not be ordering from this place any longer :( read more

Place needs some updating visually and new waitresses and staff out on the "front line" because every time I go in with friends or family we never seem to be satisfied with our waitress, always seem "trashy" but the pizza is defiantly worth it! Got takeout from here once- it was okay but way too expensive for what it is. Tried to go to the restaurant but didn't stay long enough to order. ALL of my friends rave about this place but I think I've realized that they've had one too many of the gigantic beers here and are not thinking clearly. When we walked in there was trash all over the floor- it was early evening on a Saturday and it looked like a party had taken place there the night before and not one had cleaned up. We tried to find a table but there was only one and it was right in the sun and I would have been elbowing the lady sitting at the table beside me had we eaten there. The place is packed! Mostly with teens and it's very crowded (like a mall on a weekend). I'd heard good things about the salad bar but it was just tiny like the one at Pizza Hut.
