Stopped in to Pizza Palace for the first time in many years. My wife and I were very excited to eat here as we are both Newtown natives. I would give the pizza and salad a rating of 3, just average. What absolutely stunned us was how dirty the floors were. They have commercial carpet tiles on their floor, and they were literally stained, black, disgusting. The first time I moved to Sandy Hook was January of 1985. It was freezing and by the time the movers left, I was a frozen block. We decided to venture out to find a restaurant and landed in the Pizza Palace. I ordered and consumed a full carafe of Rose Wine along with one of Jimmy's Greek dinners. Really good pizza. We moved to the area about a year ago and have been trying the best pizzas that deliver to our address. This is by far the best location that delivers to us. When the pizza comes hot it is amazing. The only reason I take one star away is they 70% of the time take a long time to deliver and the pizza is cold at this point. Again great pizza when it's hot and okay pizza when it's warm. I would recommend I just hope they can get there delivery times down or maybe pick better routes in order to get pizza to customer when it is still fresh. Highly recommend. read more

Convenient location earns them one star. By far the worst pizza in the are however. - UPDATE - After the reply from the "owner" whom is incredibly rude... Not only did I not order anything wrong, I asked for extra crispy on the pizza because the last 2 deliveries were way under cooked. I put up with 3 bad pizzas over 1 month and never asked for anything. This last time I drove his lousy pizza back to him to show him the crap they make. Of course nobody was at the counter so I left it and called him. Writing lies about someone in a public place is legally called libel and I will now give this pizza joint a full on demonstration of why you don't do that. I was overly nice with my initial review... and BTW, he promised a refund and he never did in spite of having his food returned untouched. Liar and thief. 53 years... that is another lie, you took over the restaurant after it was owned by a whole bunch of people that drove it into the ground... you Took over on March 28th 2016 and before that you worked at Friendly's.. My only regret is that I didn't find this little gem sooner! I stumbled upon this place a few days before I have to move.. so you guys should go enjoy it for me! Just the ticket when traffic is a mess on I-84. This is just off exit 10, and worth a stop. It was 5:30 on a Friday for us, and the place was packed with local residents and a constant stream of takeout. We ordered a large house special pie, thin crust, sauce, fresh tomatoes, spinach, feta, and mozzarella. Fantastic! Just right for 3 people. Nice decor, not noisy, with lots of booths with windows. The parking lot is a bit tight. Since we were short on time, they suggested calling ahead (20 minutes for pizza) and the order will be ready for eat-in or take-out. Best of all, they suggested a back way for eastbound travel, skipping some exits on the interstate. That put us through charming Sandy Hook, and along the beautiful Housatonic River. I have to admit last time I was here I was disappointed. I have been to the Pizza Palace many times and I always thought the pizza was delicious but last time I didn't care for it and neither did the people I was with. As I don't come here all that regularly I really can't say if it was just an off day or not but it was disappointing. There are so many pizza places around the area that I'm not Strongly inclined to go running back here but I would give them another chance as I quite like the atmosphere and always have. read more

Food was delicious and the food was wonderful, friendly and helpful. I got the cheeseburger club with fries. Literally it was a thing of dreams, the fries seemed double beer battered, crunchy and so good it seemed naughty. They sandwhich was succulent in the meat department and crisp and cold in the veggies, the toast it was on was a crispy and all held together tooth picks. I wish I could try them again and try the other dishes, they seem like they have been around for 40+ years. They have a book for a menu and lean slightly Italian, they have many booths to sit at and a locals feel. Great job! read more

Normally a thin crust pizza guy but I really enjoy this Greek style pizza. I have had similar Greek pizzas but this is my favorite by far!!

I grew up about 15 minutes away from the town this restaurant is in and it was always a treat to come here with the family on alternating weekends. To this day the staff are very nice and accompanying. I think the food is great for considering a diner type feel but a bit more of a family environment. Went here a few days ago right before they were going to close and did not have a problem with having us stay. Never had a bad experience, great for the family. read more

I see that I started writing this review in 2012, but never finished it. Well, now that I'm moving from CT to CA, it's about time I gave props to Newtown's finest pizza. The "salad pizza" rocks! Traditional pizzas here are loaded with fresh toppings, edge to edge. I must provide the appropriate disclaimer here: I hate cheese and order my pizzas without cheese, yet they still turn out amazing here and the servers never even bat an eye at my cheeseless request. Service is friendly, and they cater to kids and families. The owners help run the place, and they seem to keep a good eye on things. I talked with one of the owners about their delicious crust, and she took great pride in telling me how they make the special recipe crust from scratch every day. The restaurant itself isn't upscale, and could use a bit of updating, but seems perfect for a local family friendly pizza spot. Overall, I'm giving them 4 stars for what they are: Great pizza AND great service at great prices. (FYI -- This review does not take into consideration any of their other menu items, as we've only had the pizza here) read more

Pizza is good. In fact we've really enjoyed it. But delivery is not great and it seems very expensive. On my last delivery order, and I do mean last, the delivery girl had a huge attitude problem. Apparently she pushed the doorbell button too aggressively and it stuck (broken) into the wall. She abnoxiously exclaimed at me when I answered the door, "I've been standing here pounding on your door for like 5 minutes!!!" (Which was totally impossible) And, in one swoop, she shoved my pizza into my arms (aggressively enough that the pizza was smashed inside to one side of the box), rolled her eyes at me and turned and left in a huff. Absolutly no pleasantries whatsoever. Even after that I said thank you and she, with an extreme attitude, says "yeah! you're welcome!!!". Never even turned to look back at me when she said it. Just yelled back at me as she walked away in a huff. That was the last time I ordered from Pizza Palace, and as I stated above, it will be the last order I place there. It's a real shame too because, as I also noted above, my family really enjoyed their pizza. There are many options in this town for pizza delivery, and now more than ever with Covid, it's something you need to get right. And its not rocket science. Moral of the story, I'm not going to pay roughly $65 for a pizza dinner for my family only to be berated on my own front doorstep. I only wish I could take back my tip. read more

I work up the street. I ordered dinner and was told it would be over an hour because they were busy. Not only did it take 2 hours to be delivered, my food was cold, and the delivery guy was very rude. You don't tell a customer that has waited so long to bring food with them next time and call them an a@@hole. All I kept getting as a response was we are very busy including people waiting outside. The "pizza" is gross. The place is old and cruddy. The fact is, you can get away with their pathetic excuse for a restaurant because there's a limited choice. And the local dum dums don't know any better - they think it's just fine and are more than happy eating in this dump. The food is definitely not cooked with love - that's for sure. And the new management is as lame as the old management. Just looking into the kitchen alone is a scary site. Old equipment and unsanitary looking food prep area. I'm not from here. I'm visiting family and this was one of the few eateries available in town. It seems like a nice quiet restaurant. The staff was nice and friendly. We ordered when we got there and didn't have to wait forever for our pizza - that's a plus. I told them we were from out of town and the man offered us plates and napkins. That's really nice considering most places we've gotten takeout from don't even bother asking or offering utensils. I don't know what's wrong with other people saying their pizza is gross. I actually rather enjoyed the pizza. It was fresh, had the right amount of sauce, cheese, and toppings. My favorite part was the crust; it wasn't too bready and soft. It was nice and crispy and chewy on the inside. My kids enjoyed it too. I'd suggest trying their pizza out before taking everyone else's reviews for it. I have not tried anything else from their menu. But I'd definitely order their pizza again. read more

I hate to admit this, but I've lived in newtown for 17 years, and last night was my first trip to the newtown mainstay, the Pizza Palace. I stayed away because of my preference for thin-crust pizza, but we went last night to check them out because they have been supporting our Boy Scout troop's community service project by letting us use their water. The owners and waitstaff were friendly and helpful. My salad (shared with my husband), from the specials menu, was delicious and fresh. I ordered the gyro pizza (also shared) which was just right for the Greek-style pan pizza. My four kids ordered chicken parm, spaghetti and meatballs, bacon pizza and vegetarian pizza. The portions were generous, and everyone was happy with their choices. This was an economical choice for our family of six, and we plan to return! read more

This is a homely italian joint. Pizza may be in the name, but I would not order it here. Instead, the regular Italian dishes, such as chicken or eggplant parmesan will fill you up with a smile on your face. Salads and soups are also pretty good at the Palace. The prices are very affordable and they offer good lunch specials. read more

I really like this place. I don't know about their salad though. It just doesn't do it for me. I don't know if it's just that I compare every salad to Olive Garden's House Salad w/ dressing, but I just don't really care for Pizza Palace's salad. Their pizza's are probably one of the most different styles you'll ever have. It's Greek style- really greasy and heaps of toppings that fall off along with the cheese after your first bite. I grew up going to this restaurant with my family. I am happy to see that it is still around after all these years! The restaurant has changed hands, but nothing has really changed (from what I can see), and that is a good thing! I like coming here because of nostalgic reasons and also it is not like one of these trendy restaurants popping up everywhere. The atmosphere is so warm and cozy. The pizza is of course amazing because it is GREEK pizza, but everything else on the menu is great too like the souvlaki salad and moussaka. You get a lot of quality food and great service for your money! The staff is always smiling and oh, so accommodating. The owner (Ari) and his staff are genuinely friendly and helpful. They take pride in their foods and service. Ari told me about his quality mozzarella and when I tried it, I was hooked. All dough, soups, and sauces are made daily on the premises, and Pizza Palace offers generous portions at affordable family-friendly prices.
