Pizza of the Month "Sweet Heat"~ It's incredible, nice spice and crust too!
    Rachelle P.

Our toddler was napping in her carseat so my hubby decided to surprise us and drive to a place he'd been wanting to check out! I was pleasantly surprised, never heard of this spot! We ordered the Caribbean Joes with Ranch, 1/2 Pizza of the Month "Sweet Heat" and 1/2 Pork & Bessy Pizza. Pizza Pirate has the cheesiest garlic bread and some incredible pineapple pizzas! I can see why they're so highly rated, 5/5 stars for the food alone!! I would definitely recommend this pirate themed pizza parlor serving high quality, freshly made dishes to Benicia since 1972! They offer wings, garlic bread, pizza, calzones, pasta, sandwiches, salads and sundaes! Sweet staff, fun decor, with a nice fire burning and even an arcade room! We'll be back soon! SYOY! :D *Song Credit: It's A Good Day by Chris Mason (from Audiio)

Salad bar is back and it's great. Arcade is still an unaffordable hot mess, pizza still good as always. Owner didn't get the memo that they can no longer charge a credit card fee. Remove your tacky surcharge (junk fee) for credit cards. It's illegal!!! Google it or ask any AI!

Delicious stuffed potato skins. Found on the overhead menu board under starters as "The Black Pearl."

Yippee-Skipee, after more than a half-decade hiatus, the salad bar is back! Maybe not as prolific as before, but it's good to see it back. It's $13.99 now, but AYCE of course. Not sure if it's a hard & fast rule, but thinking it best to use a fresh plate each time folks, no? The pizza's never been been my favorite here, some people swear by it. I've always found it middling, despite whoever owned & operated the restaurant through the years. But it looks great coming to the table. Might have to reconsider the pizza again soon, idk? Latest owner appears to be a younger-to-middle aged Asian gent who seems eager to please his customer base. Kudos to him and continued success with this iconic Benicia business. Another favorite here of mine are the stuffed potato skins, found on the menu as the Black Pearl under starters. Everything else about the business looks the same as before. I'll be coming back a lot more now, especially with the salad bar.

We've been coming to Pizza Pirate for over 20 years. I know they got new owners within the last couple years and I've given them a few chances but I don't think we'll be getting food from here anymore. The owners and staff are really really nice. That's something I do really appreciate but my problem is that every time we get pizza here now, there are bubbles in EVERY slice. And the ranch cups. They charge for them now which is fine, but they barely put any ranch in. I'm a widowed mother of 3 who works a lot of hours to live. and Pizza Pirate is where my kids and I like to go when we have a bit of extra money to eat good. I feel like between the bubbles and the ranch I'm being scammed now

Seems like every time I'm in the mood for a salad , Raley's has already closed theirs and Round Table is just meh. So I'm happy to say Pizza Pirate's Salad bar is back! It's small but mighty with all my faves. esp the pasta salad !! (I didn't have pizza so I can't speak to that). The service was quick and friendly and the decor is very retro pizza bar. Nice for a throwback.

Terrible. This used to be one of our favorite places to get pizza from. Now it's terrible. Ordered a thin crust and it was exactly the same as the regular crust. We spent $70+ for two pizzas and the crust is almost inedible. We called as soon as we seen the crust and they did not make it right. They offered a small discount for our next order but I wanted a refund. They did not provide what we ordered so I'll never go back. A discount for a future order that I'll never get because it's trash. I highly recommend you steer clear. This place used to be good but it has changed for the worse. If I could give them negative stars, I would.

Chad replied to me in private and apologized over my experience, which is commendable. Because I truly want to support local, I will give them another try next time my son is craving pizza.

Came in a Thursday night to celebrate my son's birthday. We haven't been here in about 4 years. There were quite a few people dining. It was cold outside but nice and warm inside where they had a fire going. We were greeted and had our order taken right away. The TVs were on and the 49ers game was on which made my son and husband happy. We got a Caesar salad, garlic twists, lemon pepper wings and the anchors away pizza (the XL is huge). Everything was fresh and delicious. The wings took a while to come out but were well seasoned and worth waiting for. We also had the ship wreck Sunday which was big enough to share. We will definitely come back.

From the looks of it, there are many locals who show love to this place because everyone seemed to know everyone which was a nice thing to know. Our waiter was very nice, I forget her name but she was such a nice lady. The food was amazing. You start off with a sliced bread thats warm straight from the oven and is presented to you with a secret homemade sauce that was super delicious. If you love garlic like myself, you will be scraping that sauce till its gone. We got the calamari to start with and share and I think that was the best calamafi I've ever consumed. I usually dont like the firm texture and fishy flavor of some calamari but this was super tender and super flavorful without the fishiness. A really great starter to share. We each got out own dishes and I got the Frutti di Mare. This dish was super flavorful and exactly what I wanted from a seafood pasta. Their mussels were HUGE though so I got kinda turned off from that (just a personal thing). Everything else was amazing and you also get a choice of soup or salad before your main entree which is a great format for eating. My girlfriend got the Pasta Gabriella and it was a VERY large portion. She said it was good but we both agreed there was a very strong bell pepper flavor. If you love bell peppers definitely get this pasta. Overall we had a great experience here and would love to come again!!

First of all, our waiter was so sweet and attentive. My grandparents have some dietary restrictions, but they were very accommodating and helpful when picking something they could eat off the lunch menu. We were first served bread which was warm and delicious with the marinara. We ordered Prosciutto for our appetizer which was very tasty. Can't ever go wrong with this plate. I ordered the chicken pesto with a tomato bisque soup. The soup was delicious! My mom who ordered a salad split it with me because she's never tried that soup and found it super tasty. The chicken pesto was more on the tomato-ey side but yummy nonetheless. The portions were huge so I had to take it to go! Such a cute place to bring your family or a date to!

I ordered the sea bass, my husband had the salmon, my sister had a salad, and her husband enjoyed the filet mignon. Every dish was delicious, but the sea bass deserves special recognition. As someone who orders sea bass whenever I can, I've had it in Pismo Beach, Monterey, and San Francisco, and Baxter's has set a new standard. It was incredibly fresh, melt-in-your-mouth tender, with a perfectly crisp sear that locked in all of its delicate flavor. Every bite was moist, flaky, and cooked to perfection. It was honestly the best sea bass I've ever had. The service was warm, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome. Combined with the elegant atmosphere and classic white tablecloths, Baxter's was the perfect place to celebrate. We'll definitely be back!

If you're looking for the kind of dinner that makes you want to cancel your other weekend plans…read morejust so you can go back, Baxters is it. Tucked right on First Street across from the bay in downtown Benicia, this place has completely earned its reputation as the town's culinary crown jewel. From the moment you walk in, the warmth is unmistakable -- and it's not an accident. Owners Kenneth Coker and Kevin Shaw built this restaurant to feel like their own living room, and it shows in every detail, right down to the name (a sweet nod to their beloved Fox Terrier). That personal touch translates into genuinely attentive service that never feels stiff or rehearsed. Now, the food. The Beef Wellington is the stuff of legend -- perfectly rendered pastry, a filling that melts before you even chew, and clearly a labor of love from the kitchen. The scallops are seared to that impossible perfection where the outside caramelizes but the inside stays buttery-soft. And if salmon gnocchi in vodka sauce is on the menu when you go, order it without hesitation -- it's rich, comforting, and impossible to stop eating. Even the truffle burger, which almost feels like an afterthought on a menu this elevated, has become a neighborhood obsession for good reason. Cocktails are crafted with the same care as the food -- inventive, well-balanced, and clearly the product of a team that takes its bar program seriously. And if you can snag a reservation in The Speakeasy, the intimate back room, do it. It's easily one of the most romantic, memorable settings for a special occasion in the entire Bay Area. Baxters isn't just a great restaurant -- it's a genuine gathering place, the kind of spot a whole town falls in love with. Whether it's date night, a family celebration, or just a nightcap at the bar, Baxters delivers an experience that's warm, delicious, and utterly memorable every single time. Highly, highly recommended.

We ate two servings of bread an do bitter while we waited for the entrees. The filet was tender and seasoned well in addition to being cooked a bit over medium, had a large portion of spinach and mashed potatoes, and came with the same red wine reduction sauce as the mushrooms which we found a bit odd. The minutely seasoned halibut has to have been the tiniest piece of fish we've ever seen served and only had six small potato quarters and like 6-7 stalks of asparagus with it. Overall, we ate everything because of the small halibut entree, but will most likely not return. I suggest the owners have more than one server on a Friday night, For everyone's sake.

Bravo for good customer service! My understanding is that the outdoor dining that we very much enjoyed, was added during Covid. Back in the 80's the outdoor eating area was all parking lot. I took a look inside to see what else has changed. The main interior dining room looks almost identical to what it looked like 40+ years ago. The previous secondary indoor dining area has now been converted to a food preparation and employee only area. The bar itself looks the same as it did in 1984, but the area around the bar looks much more like dining space than it used to. This may be a good thing as attitudes on indulgences have certainly changed over the decades. I suspect at some point I'll return, hopefully it won't be decades...
