Best pizza in town. I love the atmosphere. You don't get these types of places anymore. I got the wings which were amazing. Cooked perfectly and with my choice of sauce. My daughter choose the potatoe skins and they might be my new favorite item to order now. Of course the pizza was as normal. Better than before. Some time last year the pizza tasted like a cardboard. **COVID-19 Update** Eating here was serendipitous. Didn't know if there were any good pizza joints around Vallejo/Benicia, but I was very happy to have discovered Pizza Pirate. Not currently open for dine-in, but available for outdoor dining. They have a huge patio! Tucked in a plaza next to Starbucks that is very quiet even on the weekends. Sat outside unmasked without feeling at risk. I had the Walk the Plank(creamy white sauce, green onions, tomatoes) and Abandon Ship (bbq chicken). I really enjoyed the richness of the white sauce on Walk the Plank- a flavor unique to their pizzeria. Crust is thick and chewy. They are generous with their toppings and sauces. I was pleased with their service and even when we asked for sides of ranch and jalapeños, they gave us a bounty of it. A very family-friendly local spot fit for small or large parties. Regrettably, this is a classic case of a long-standing, respected business that has completely deteriorated under new ownership. We have been customers of Pizza Pirate for over 30 years since first moving to town. (Yes, you read that right.). Perhaps that is why we gave them the benefit of the doubt and multiple times to screw up before finally deciding to pull the plug and never go back. In summary, the last three times we've ordered delivery, we were told the order would take 45-60 minutes, and it always took at least 15 minutes longer. When the pizza arrived, it was cold and definitely not up to the traditional standard. This last Sunday night was the final straw. We ordered at 6:45 PM and were told the pizza would be there by 8:00 PM. That seemed like a long time but we had guests over and decided to wait. At 8:10 PM. We called to check on it and they said it would be another 15 minutes. When we called at 8:25 PM and were told it would be another 25 minutes, we indicated we'd be complaining about the delay. At that point, unbelievably, the person on the phone told us if we did, we would be "blacklisted." I didn't know whether to get angry or laugh, so I laughed. I was going to be blacklisted by my pizza company because my pizza was over an hour late? We don't need the hassle. There are plenty of alternatives here in town. Hell yea I would walk the plank for a Pizza Pirate Pizza... Came here recently with my girlfriend and her dad and I decided I wanted to try something different. Everyone once and awhile I get cravings for a Combination Pizza. The only thing is, I hate mushrooms. So we got the Captains Combo and I get the job done. No mushrooms and just a ton of tasty meat with a good amount of green bell peppers and olives here and there. There was a good amount of sauce and the crust was tasty and slightly thick. It took a little while to get our pizza though. It wasn't really that busy that day but at least the wait wasn't too long. I will say that the decor is really nice in there compared to other pizza places in town. I think it's also cool how they have a free smartphone charging station by the door too. I'm not sure if I would do dine in anytime soon but I always do enjoy their pizza. Their Walk the Plank to this day is my favorite Chicken Gourmet Pizza(Possibly ever) in town. A good old-fashioned pizza parlor like I remember from the 70's. Old-school interior with some comfy banquette seats. Pizza is surprisingly tasty, and the salads are also good and a generous portion. Value is good as well; prices are reasonable. Long Form: I ordered the Crows Nest and Fridays Footprint. Crows Nest (poor choice in naming) skimped on the pesto sauce that takes the place of the tomato sauce. This pizza was really underwhelming, didn't feel like any of the ingredients came together, and for the price (8") just not worth it ever. Fridays Footprint: Not enough tomato sauce, super doughy, the toppings seemed to be an afterthought and were cold when I ate a slice right out of the box. It felt like the toppings were added after the pizza went into the oven too, like why??? I've ordered here twice and my first experience was MUCH better. Even the names of each pizza are pirate inspired. I'm a big fan of the salad bar. There are tons of different options for those veggie lovers like myself. And pizza pirate allows you to eat bottomless salad! Such a great deal! I usually order the vegetarian pesto pizza (I forgot the pirate name for it). It's delicious! Loaded with veggies. And artichoke hearts! I have also tried the mushroom pizza. There's a nice selection of local brew on tap as well! So why not 5 stars? Well, when we ordered delivery the pizza arrived looking like slime. I think it was tossed around a bit. But we ate it anyway and it tasted just as good as I remember. My husband and I decided to have our wedding dinner rehearsal here in the backroom and it was a fantastic experience! We decided to dress up as pirates as it was only fitting and the staff were so accommodating! I contacted the manager Jessica months in advance and she was so wonderful for us making sure we were taken of for our reservation. She was so easy to work with and responsive and was so enthusiastic in supporting our pirate themed dinner rehearsal. She even went out of her way to buy us custom decorations for the room which was incredibly sweet. We loved the restaurant, food was great, staff was great and we were thrilled with our experience and got amazing photos. You have the option to sit inside or outside, however outside is on the main road, and some people are driving rather fast for being so close to business. Pizza Pirate has always been a family favorite. We've celebrated many birthdays here, and attended quite a few meetings/parties for sports. The arcades are fun for the kids, but can get pretty crowded back there. The ticket machines seem to be broken often, but the employees are always helpful. The pizza is AMAZING. Our favorite is Walk the Plank. And of course, can't go wrong with the pepperoni or cheese. We are completely bummed they removed the self serve salad bar once Covid hit. That was a big hit every time we went there. So many options to choose from. Their party room is fantastic. Plenty of space for party or meetings/events. The employees are extremely nice. Had a taste for pizza and wanted to try something different so ordered the Friday footprint and garlic sticks since they were included with a check-in. I did a phone in order and was told 20 minutes so I left my house about 15 minutes later since it was only about 10 minutes away. The parking lot is huge so that's not an issue. So when I arrived I waited for a few customers ahead of me to be helped. I then told the lady working the front counter my name and I was there for a pickup, she told me it would be a few more minutes which wasn't a big problem although I wanted to be in and out to get home and finish watching my series on Prime! So I waited about 5-10 minutes while watching the their big screen. Seemed to be a slow night as there wasn't many people there at all and for such a big place it really showed how empty it was. So once my pizza was done, I jetted home to dig in and the pizza was average nothing special and the garlic bread was tasty ( had to try it although I'm not big on bread). I've lived in Benicia since 2001 and was eating at Pizza Pirate even before then. Unfortunately, the pizzas have much less toppings now and they come out too fast. Making the crust too soft. Perhaps a slower oven with less heat? They seem understaffed and the vibe isn't as welcoming as I remember. Too bad the salad bar is gone. We told visitors that it was the best salad bar in town.
