What a surprise!! My wife and I were referred to eat here from a previous employee. As we are not from the area we made it a point to drive a little out of our way to check it out. When we arrived for lunch it was empty. We were surprised and a little concerned but we were greeted with a friendly smile and given our choice of seat. From our first beer and the homemade bruschetta to our delicious entrees there wasn't one thing bad we could say. This is a must try for anyone who loves fine Italian dining for a fair price. The food was not as good as I expected. I ordered shrimp fettuccine in some kind of lemon garlic butter sauce and all I could taste was lemon. It tasted like they had poured a ton of lemon from a bottle over the shrimp and noodles, very thin watery consistency and flavorless, just extremely lemony and barely warm. The server Cynthia was rude, very short and seemed like she didn't like us or didn't want to be there. She didn't extend any offers or explanation of anything they had and she even made a rude comment to the bus boy at our table when he was taking the bread basket with bread in it and I asked him to not take it, Cynthia said,"she almost took out your hand!" When I just simply asked the boy if he could just leave it cuz we weren't done with it. After dealing with Cynthia's poor attitude and very short service and seemingly unhappiness, on top of the nasty comment she made.. made us feel very bad, unwelcomed and not wanting to be there so we didn't want to hang out. When other people near us were seated Cindy was extremely nice, smiling and extended offers and explanations of everything they had. When Cindy came back to our table I asked her why she didn't give us the same choices.. she stated that they were regulars and they come here all the time. If I was running a business I would definitely not want anyone like Cynthia working for me, pushing people out. Cynthia is bad for the business since she represents that restaurant. When we called later that evening Madison on the phone did not want to give out any information she put us on hold for lengthy times without asking us to hold with every question that I asked. I was simply trying to get to a manager or supervisor and she said that Cindy was the manager and that Lauren would be the manager on Tuesday. Needless to say I will not ever be returning nor will my friends and family. It's not that rare to find good service but it is rare to find people like Cynthia in a restaurant that makes their customers feel bad and uncomfortable while sitting there expecting to have a nice dinner with friends and family. When being put on hold, the host should mute the phone. I've spent the last 30 minutes trying to place a to go order and when I finally got through, I was asked to hold. Cool. Fine. They sounded busy. A few minutes passed and I heard the hustle and bustle die down. I could hear the host chatting with another employee, so I figure they just need to recompose themselves after the rush before getting back to me. Another few minutes pass and the host leaves with no urgency to go look for something and I'm left listening to the background noise of the kitchen. More minutes pass and I realize I was forgotten about. Cool. Whatever. I get it. It happens. I hang up and call again hoping to catch the attention of another employee to take my order before the kitchen closes. I called ten times. 10. Since there's only one phone line, I can only assume that the phone isn't ringing because the host never hung up the previous call and completely forgot about the phone entirely. I'm a restaurant manager and I know these things are sure to happen when it's busy. I also know that hosts are as easily replaceable as they are trainable. Hopefully this ends up getting back to the poor simple girl who answered in the first place. Now I'm off to support a different business trying to stay afloat during the pandemic. read more

I came to Pizzaioli with a group of friends for my birthday and I can't even begin to praise them and their staff enough. The service was spot on and so friendly. The food was incredible and they even made my Vino Bianco pasta dish keto friendly and subbed out the pasta for fresh veggies and it was so great. They also let me bring in cakes and served up all the guests and we're so sweet and pleasant. A wonderful place and patio to spend your birthday or ANY DAY at! We were very disappointed with the lack of service. We tried to go there two times within the last week and when we entered the doors we were told they were closed. It was 8:30pm and there were people inside that we could clearly see. Very disappointing especially since we spent a lot of money here. The vibe in this restaurant is that they cater to the regulars and the rest of us are "guests" that may or may not receive acceptable service. Excellent food and service! Bad covid protocals. If I was rating on food and service alone, I would give five stars. We had the caprese salad which was bright and delicious, a PZ salad and a Caesar Salad. The cioppino is always delicious. The frutte de mar was generous on the seafood and the new york steak was a perfect medium rare. The problems were that we had to ask two separate servers to pull their masks over their noses and we were seated right next to the hostess desk so we saw many customers show up without masks and they were seated without being asked to put one on. This goes against county policies. We have gone to other restaurants with outside dining and you are always required to wear a mask until you are at your table. We love the food but will not be returning until the virus rates are under control. read more

Charming traditional Italian restaurant in the heart of Chino Spectrum. My mom and I live in the neighborhood and have been coming for close to a decade. We come regularly and have a great time but today the experience was off the mark. The Frutti di mare and cioppino were solid as usual but my risotto al polpo (octopus risotto) tasted like rice porridge, clearly had a bit too much liquid and lacked the rich creaminess I expected from a risotto. I brought it up briefly with the waiter and he said he'd ask the chef to whip up a new one but the dish was the same, simply strained of its liquid and plated again. A small part of me is worried I got a loogie in my creamy dish. Overall, disappointing experience but will still come back at least once to give our little Italian eatery a shot (just not the risotto). read more

It appears that Pizzaioli is charging for corkage ($15) again in all instances except when they have "Free Corkage". It's kind of a shame that they went back to that old school way of thinking as the restaurant that is less than 100 feet away that is in the same parking lot (can we say Tahoe Joe's) still offers free corkage 7 days a week with their menu being about 20% less in price yet still serving similar food along with a happy hour menu. While the service is typically on point, something has changed in the last month or so. I see much less of the experienced servers, and a lot more "new faces" waiting tables. On the plus side, the menu specials have improved to include Lobster, Prime Rib and Tomahawk Pork chop to name a few of the most recent experiences. In short, Pizzaioli needs to work on a consistent dining experience (wait staff needs to be attentive, food need to be prepared consistently and corkage fees should be abandoned at these prices). read more

This place really depends on the day. Their pizza is seriously good like the cheese is so melty and gooey. The pasta really fluctuates, but the red/marinara sauce is almost always the go-to. Any creamy sauce feels a bit too heavy at least for my taste, but definitely not an impediment of coming here. This is by far the best Italian restaurant in the Chino/Chino Hills area. read more

Very disappointed in service & expected more from the food for the price. Worst part of the experience was the restaurant was so hot inside it was extremely uncomfortable at that level of heat I wouldn't have even opened the restaurant, we had to ask many times for ICE because they kept serving us room temp water in this extreme heat. We couldn't finish our food with how hot it was so we packed it to go. If I had known their AC was broken or limited on the temperature setting we would have gladly booked our birthday celebration elsewhere that could accommodate a cool setting to enjoy the food. One of our guests became so dizzy and light headed from the heat inside the restaurant she was flushed which was when we decided to leave. Do better to inform your guests ahead of time that your restaurant is experiencing e difficulties with AC on a hot day so we could have a chance to find accommodations. read more

You're always going to get bad service here because the employees are treated poorly. I was told the owner makes all employees turn in their tips at the end of the shift and pays them their tips on their paychecks so they are taxed on them like their regular pay. This also skews the employees hourly rate to appear more than it is. I did eat here once and the same sentiment from most bad reviews here is that the food is hit and miss and not worth the prices. Also, what appears to be the owner is always there drinking and can be seen hanging out with their "regulars" and you can tell there is a difference in the way those who are reoccurring customer versus new ones are treated. I've worked in the service industry for years and to hear the things that I've heard about the way the employees are treated I don't know how this place hasn't been sued, investigated, and shut down. Don't support a place that does this to their employees. And I'd love to hear a response if this info is not true. If it's not I have no problem taking this review down. But I know it to be true because I spoke with an employee that left because of these things. read more

They've upped their prices and downsized their portions A LOT. Our table was wobbly, like to where we had to put a napkin under it. The app and salad I love and spoke about ^^ and have been getting for YEARS are both way smaller and prices have gone up. The gamberetti used to take up the whole plate with nice sized shrimp. Now, it's just 6 bite sized shrimp for $16. The salad was the same good toppings but with less cheese and dried out, super thin arugula leaves. In the past, we have been able to look at our bill and think- money well spent. This time, it didn't feel like that. I was in the mood for a serious red wine and the bartender had a beautiful spicey Zinfandel handy that was fantastic! The pepper in the wine hit the back of my palate and made me hungry for some fall like goodness. I was thinking comfort food and perhaps the Buffalo but decided on the Halibut Brodetto- it was a beautiful garlicky white wine with cherry tomatoes type of fish soup that I didn't want to share with anyone else! I used the generous amount of fresh bread they always give you to sop up all the buttery delicious liquid gold! I've never had Boullibaise's in Paris as tasty as this! One of our favorite go to restaurants... and sadly may not he returning. The highlight used to be the free fresh bread/bruschetta at the table while you wait for your food. Now with charging for it, it adds to the cost of the already inflated costs. Seems as time goes on, the portions continue to decline. My wife's portion of potatoes, she only had 5, whereas before they used to overflow the plate. And the to-go salads are pretty sad, which would be our go-to lunch since we work around the corner. To-go salad and bruschetta, but now with charging for the bread and the salad getting smaller, the price doesn't match what we get. This has been our place for more than 10 years. Disappointed. I'm only giving this place 3-Stars because of catering. We have had somethings not made to order correctly and some prices quoted incorrectly. The Shrimp in tomato sauce has tasted like they used a can of Campbell's tomato soup. I have ordered the tortellini with chicken and jalapenos twice and once it's come with no chicken and once with no jalapenos. I have visited the restaurant and few times and have been impressed with the food and service. If catering could be improved, it would be a plus. read more

Please consider offering a smaller entree with a small house salad in the $13-15 range. Otherwise I cannot justify this expense for a solo lunch. I can get a killer bento box sashimi lunch for $9.95 elsewhere in Chino Hills. I think if you offered a scaled down lunch menu the traffic would be better.
