What an unexpected treat! We were headed to another restaurant, found it was closed, and stumbled upon Pizzeria 22 by chance. A little hole-in-the-wall place with great ambiance, a large menu, and good prices. The pizzas are pretty darn big for 12". My boyfriend and I split one no problem, but also started with the Veal Meatballs (which melted in our mouths). The Quattro Formagi (4 cheese) with Prosciutto added was fantastic! It's a bit tight here in P22. Adjust your expectations accordingly. Feels a bit like a New York diner. You're going to be close to other people and likely to bumped, touched and rubbed - especially if you sit at the bar. This has never stopped me from coming here because I love the food. Also, the owner is great and the staff and clientele are friendly. The pizzas/calzone are Neapolitan style from an authentic wood burning stove. It's thin crust and sloppy, just the way I like it. Perfect for folding. I enjoy quite a bit of the items on the menu but my go to are the Insalate 22 salad along with the meaty Calzone. When I'm not so hungry, I'll split the two with a friend. If famished, I'll kill it on my own with an IPA to wash it down. I also love the clams appetizer. read more

This is a legit pizza spot. I had a gluten free margarita pizza with prosciutto and it was delicious. Full bar and great wine as well. The owner is super cool and our group of 14 people easily fit in the restaurant. Check out all the cool random pizza boxes on the walls. Sad that such a terrific pizza-maker has slipped so badly since the pandemic. Used to be my favorite of the three brick ovens in the neighborhood, but it all depends on who's at the oven and they don't seem to be finding the talent anymore. Last three times have been burned on bottom and soggy in center. Take-out order taking has likewise slipped. Twice they made the wrong pizza and the third time left off an added ingredient. My rating for this place is purposefully kind because I enjoy neighborhood places that throw tables out in the parking strip so that you can dine al fresco in a fairly informal atmosphere. More restaurants should do this and as the pandemic recedes, I hope to see more outdoor dining in our area. We were looking for a place to be in the sun and drink, so here we landed. This was pretty much the end of us getting anything close to what we expected. P-22 clearly has the capacity to assemble decent food and provide excellent service. Unfortunately for my friend and I, we received neither of those things during our visit to P-22. On the positive side - they do seem to have a clay pizza oven and the crust on the pizza tells me something good is possible here. We also had wine and cocktails. Both were acceptable and no complaints other than being served a drink with lipstick all around the rim of the glass and a bug in it. The waiter put the drink down, said she was going to replace it and then walked away, leaving the insect infused delight on our table, along with the other dirty dishes from appetizers that sat on our table nearly the entire time of our wonderful visit despite my companion constantly piling, rearranging and pushing the dishes to more prominent and obvious spots in order to indicate that we would like them taken away. This is sign number one that the service is really variable here. We sat for some twenty minutes with no food and empty drink glasses on the table while the waiter went inside and came back out six or seven times without checking on us. After about the fifth time, I started waiving when she was facing our direction. She chose to ignore us despite there not really being anything going on for about 10 minutes. Other tables occupied by older couples were hovered over. The service was so incredibly bad that we left there suspecting that we had done something to offend this young wait person. My friend and I are typically wild over-tippers and extremely kind with waitstaff because everyone should be and, having grown up around a lot of kitchens, I know what happens to a-hole customer food before it comes out. This made zero difference on this day. After a marathon of mostly sitting, I inquired about the readiness of the pizza we had ordered about an hour prior and were told that it could be made ready in no time. OK, that's unsettling, but I'm ready to get out of here, so bring it on. The pizza arrives!! I haven't eaten pizza in a restaurant for over a year and this Italian American mutt is ready to fold some slices and experience the exquisite, smokey sensation of wood fired oven pizza in my mouth. Better yet, this one had eggplant on it, one of my favorite vegetables. Pizza lands on the table. Let's jus say the inch thick half slab of tasteless, mushy garbage on a pizza was not what I had in mind when I ordered a pizza with eggplant on it. I don't know what they did to it before putting it on the pizza and I'm betting no one there can tell you either. It did neither pizza nor eggplant any justice. The rest of the pizza was OK, I guess. The "marinara" served to us appeared to be tomato puree straight out of a can. From what I can tell, nothing was added to it, no garlic, oregano or even salt. We had the distinct pleasure of experiencing this on multiple dishes including an appetizer - Baked? clams, in this case baby clams drenched in tasteless "marinara." I would strongly encourage the owner or head chef of this restaurant to google Marinara Sauce, learn the basic ingredients, and make sure that whoever runs the kitchen on any given night knows what it is because whoever prepared the food on the night that we visited was not using a recipe or ingredients. Don't get me wrong, we all use canned products, but normally if we're going to eat them, we add things to them, we don't eat them straight out of a can. On that note, the clams with "marinara" came out at a temperature that would suggest the clams were cooked and then raw "M" sauce was dumped on them from that very can as they rolled out the kitchen door. So, aside from atrocious service and completely mediocre food, this place is totally real and in West Seattle. I highly recommend that you avoid "Pee" as we now call it, on the nights when whoever that was in the kitchen is working. read more

Ordered a to-go Pizzi via Eat24 service. Ordering worked great. Due to no delivery service, I picked it up. The order was a regular order of "Al Pepperoni Pizza", with Italian tomato, mozzarella, pepperoni. Pizza was ready when I arrived to pick it up. Looked good. However, only after I came home did I realized it was heavily burned underneath. The burn tasted like old burned oily crust, like the wood oven had not been cleaned; or too much oil was sprayed into wood burning oven to keep it burning. See pictures. Price was $16. I ended up throwing it away. So disappointed. Life. By the way - ordered at the same time, a small pepperoni pizza (much smaller at $10) from Mioposto. Juicy, real tomato taste. Not burned. Yum! I'd like to make that my whole review. Really tasty thin-crust, artisan pizza. Great happy hour deals from 4-6. The end. More? Ok, then: We're on a mission to try out all the pizza joints in West Seattle. (it's good to have a purpose in life, right?) This one's near the library, so it was easy enough to get to one night when we were hungry. Parking wasn't as easy as we'd hoped, since the Admiral/California area is always iffy for that, but we found a close-enough side street and walked. The place is small and intimate, and looked really hip, so I worried our kids would be unwelcome. Not so! The servers were super friendly, hooked my baby up with a high chair, and gave my five-year-old a free, smaller-size drink. (I didn't realize it was free till I didn't see it on the tab. We tipped well.) However, the place is *teensy*. No way were my kiddos and their energy going to survive with everything intact before the food got there, so my husband took them out for a walk, like to Bartell to spend allowance or some such. What did I care? I was blissfully alone for once, at a nice restaurant! I felt so swanky. We got there during happy hour but wanted a more interesting pizza that wasn't on the $5 list. We did order a reduced-price appetizer, stuffed mushrooms. Alcoholic drinks are $1 off during happy hour as well, which means you could get a house wine for $4: not shabby. We ordered the Pesto Carlito pizza, which had pesto (duh), roasted chicken, red onions, and goat cheese. When I saw how spread out the toppings were, I was afraid it might be too plain, but it was light and delicious. Did I mention "Yum"? The cheese-stuffed mushrooms come in a lovely marinara sauce, so I have high hopes for a red pizza another time. Now that I know how high-quality the pizzas are, I won't mind settling even for a plain margherita or pepperoni one for happy hour. I wish I could have enjoyed all my crust, but my 5-year-old called dibs on it all. In his defense, it was very good crust. One downside is the portions vs. the expense. The pizzas aren't that big, and the light dough means there isn't much bulk. The 5-year-old got crusts; the baby got bites. That meant by and large two adults shared one $14 pizza and one appetizer. I was pleasantly sated immediately after eating my half but hungry again a couple hours later. Plus, it was just so good, I could have easily kept eating! I think a better proportion would be for two adults to get their own appetizer and then split a pizza, or get two pizzas and bring home any leftovers. But then it gets kind of pricey. Definitely a splurge place, unless you go during happy hour. I could also imagine the place getting quite crowded on busy nights. I'm looking forward to going again when it's sunnier so we can sit outside. And maybe we'll leave the kids behind, take the free Water Taxi Shuttle, and enjoy happy hour. ;) read more

Special appetizer of the night: clams in tomatoe based broth with flatbread. Super yummy! I like the olive oil/butter broth that most clams seem to come with, but this sauce was sooo much better that my husband picked up a spoon and drank some like it was tomato soup! We asked for red pepper flakes and the bartender gave us also a bottle of olive oil infused in chili, which was amazing! Never tried that on pizza before, great if you like a little kick to your pizza. Pretty small place, and it's dark/romantic-esque. I was surprised there were lots of family and children in there. My husband and I have been going to Pizzeria 22 consistently since we moved to West Seattle 4 years ago. The food is absolutely delicious, and the staff is friendly and usually well organized. I typically get one of the vegetarian pizzas and my husband gets prosciutto with arugula. Both of our pizzas come out perfect and piping hot! The prices are very reasonable and the ambiance is solid. Also I love their spicy oil! Delicious! Pizzeria 22 is not as "cute" as Mioposto, but I prefer Pizzeria 22 because the service is MUCH better, and I like the food better. Plus the prices are comparable or lower, and the menu has greater variety. Note: I knocked off one star because we did have one experience where the service was *really* bad. There was only one waitress for the whole restaurant, and I believe she was new. We waited for a LONG time for her to even take our drink orders, and then much longer than normal for our orders to come. However this has not been my typical experience at Pizzeria 22. read more

This place is in a bad location but gosh the pizza is delicious. It's a definite must try. The room is somewhat dim so romantic even for a pizza joint. Great decor and ambiance. I hope it makes it because the pizza crust is amazing. I tried their special and was so satisfied. I'd rate it up there with Serious Pie, which I'm a fan of. My only complaint is I didn't care to be sitting right next to the door, but that was my friend's fault for not requesting to be moved. They serve beer and wine. read more

Checked them out for the first time during their happy hour. The personal pizzas for $5 during this time are a great value. They appear to be very finicky about their ingredients, and want the best they can get. The cheese and pepperoni in my pizza appeared to be artisan grade. The pizzas on their menu seem a bit spendy (averaging $14 for a 12-inch thin crust pizza that will feed one hungry person or two nibblers). It seems outside of happy hour, your tab can add up really quick. But that said, you are getting the best of ingredients, and it's your body; do you deserve the best? The dining space is small and intimate, with a nice atmosphere. Great for a romantic dinner or get together with a couple of friends. The staff is very professional and take pride in their product. I was particularly impressed by the candor of the server. So why only 3 stars? Well, I think this type of pizza is being done better at Phonecia, but Pizzeria 22 does have more varieties of pizza. I haven't been there for dinner yet, but I will, and I reserve the right to upgrade this review to 4 or 5 stars. wishing negative numbers were an option for this place... we are new to seattle (been here 6 months) and have been exploring the restaurants in our neighborhood. we stopped into this place for dinner one night and it was an experience (and not a positive one). the waitress was very nice - none of this is aimed at her but IS aimed at the older man/waiter/manager (??) he really is an a-hole! both my husband and myself were really just not digging what we ordered... we didn't say anything but it was obvious as we didn't eat more than a few bites and then were done. the waitress asked me what was wrong - i said it wasn't for me and she was very nice in offering something else and to take it off the bill; i said i would gladly pay for it and didn't want anything else... she apologized and said it would be off the bill after this, my husband asked the man for the bill - when he noticed my husband didn't eat any of his food he asked if he wanted a box, my husband (politely) declined and the man apparently was VERY offended by this... asked my husband a few times what was wrong and why he didn't like the food and didn't want to take it home. my husband was very polite in saying he just didn't like it and just wanted the bill... the man then asked if we had ever been here before (does that matter?) we said this was out first time and he scoffed at us. my husband noted he had run a pizzeria for years from where we moved from so he knows pizza (sooooo he knows pizza)... not everything is for everyone was the point we were trying to make but this guy was just PISSED! slammed the bill on the table (my food was still on there but whatever... i just wanted to leave at this point) and didn't say a word to us. look dude... tastes are different to each person... not saying your food is crappy but your attitude and behavior was out of control and uncalled for. we eat out ( A LOT) and have never been treated like this... safe to say we'll never be back after this craziness we went to il nido in alki to get an actual edible meal and we were treated so nicely and had an awesome meal! do yourself a favor... skip this crap place and go to il nido... your stomach will thank you read more

Hard to come close to authentic Napoli pizza, but Pizzeria 22 does a pretty darn good job. We ordered takeout through the yelp app and it was done right on time. They offer delivery or pickup. The crust is thin and delicious and the toppings are just right. We ordered the Al Pepperoni and the Prosciutto Primavera. Both equally excellent in their own ways. The pepperoni had just enough sauce and mozzarella. The prosciutto and arugula were fresh and the slightly cooked tomatoes really added flavor. The flavors, from the crust (chewy but airy), the sausage, and the fantastic chili oil that you, in your right mind cannot pass up, this pizza is on point. But it does take a while. We were not prepared to wait that long, so we skipped our initial plans of seeing a movie at the Admiral theatre just so we could wait the 40 minutes it took to get the pizza. It was worth it though! No hard feelings, just changed expectations. The thing to pass on? The caprese salad. That was not on point. Tasted like canned tomatoes with slightly soured mozzarella cheese smothered with pesto. This is hands down my favorite pizza spot in Seattle. As soon as I walk in I feel like I'm wrapped in a warm blanket of pizza love and delicious libations. The pizza is fantastic, as are the appetizers and salads, and their delicious clams in a tomato chorizo sauce, that sauce is so good we eat the leftover with a spoon . I have big love for their new beet salad, add that to the stuffed mushrooms and the inferno pizza or the pesto Carlito and I am in heaven. You can't forget the delicious cocktails or their well curated wine. Last but not least, WONDERFUL bar tenders and wait staff. Always leave Pizzeria 22 feeling full and blissfully content. I want to like this place and we keep hoping it will change but I don't think the owner gets it. Mio Posto is a block away and is always packed and Pizzeria 22 should take tips. The wine by the glass is terrible, hot, and way overpriced for a tiny pour. Also the ambiance is in great need of improvement. Put some lights up. Put plants or art or anything in that bigger room to make it more appealing besides big giant tables that aren't intimate at all. The pizza was less mushy this time so that was an improvement and the service was also better than the last few times but I think we are done and will stick to Mio Posto from now on. read more

So, I ordered this on UberEats, because I needed delivery. However, I paid 4 dollars extra for gluten free crust, ordered the Al Pepperoni. Did I get it? No way. I got a totally a random different pizza with mushrooms and basil and some other stuff. Luckily, my friend is a Master Baker...he tasted the crust, and it was definitely. NOT. GLUTEN-FREE. How wrong to advertise and not provide what was ordered! Moreover, we called the Pizzeria, and they told us they could make a new pizza but we have to come a get it?!?! There's a reason we ordered delivery. We could not go get it and the person on the phone would do nothing to help us. Double-checked the receipt, definitely ordered the GF crust, and did not receive it. I will definitely be contesting this charge on my credit card. First off, they gave us the wrong order the first time around. Luckily we checked in the car and turned around to retrieve the correct pizzas. However what little toppings there were appeared to be just slapped on there and didn't cover the whole pizza. We ordered a Margarita 22 and a Al Pepperoni and both were sparsely spread with toppings in clumps and looked nothing like the pictures on the website. We also ordered the wood fired bruschetta which wasn't very flavorful, as well as the eggplant parm appetizer which was not what I expected (although decent). I was hoping the eggplant would be crispy, breaded and fried and slathered with melted, bubbly mozzarella with a marinara dipping sauce. This is the best pizza we've had since we were in Italy! Pizzeria 22 is not new to us...just far away (40 miles). We've had such amazing pizzas each time we've come over to W Seattle we just keep making the trip (it's way closer than Panzano Italy!) Tonight on our way home we made the side trip to pick up their pizza. When we got home we put slices in frypan/skillet to warm up to the deliciousness that is.........PIZZERIA 22!! Not cool! We ordered two pizzas and asked for no mushrooms as our daughter is allergic. Both items came with mushrooms meaning she was unable to eat. We tried to take some off and found a hair. I understand that mistakes happen and tried to contact the restaurant. The listed telephone number goes directly to a voicemail box that is full and can't accept messages. Not a good business practice!!! We are now left with a $50 meal that will go directly in the trash. I've emailed the business, since it is the only method of contact, and surely hope that they make it right and refund the purchase. read more
