A new top-of-the-list pizzeria in West Seattle! We've walk past the restaurant quite a few times and finally said "Let's give it a try, it's always got a consistent patronage." Needless to say, I'm glad we stopped in for dinner. The atmosphere is split with the front being more dark and intimate and the other side being more open. Either way, the staff is on top of it with speed and recommendations. This is a traditional Neapolitan style pizzeria with exceptional starters, salads, and obviously pizza. For two, I recommend getting the clams (local PNW caught - fresh) and veal meatballs as starters. Follow with the insalata verde (green salad with pancetta and gorgonzola). Finally, end with a pizza (any are great). This meal was SO GOOD! read more

Ordered our dinner online for pickup at 5:30. The app said to pick up at 6:15. I arrived and the waiter at the door said it would be closer to 6:30, that they were "short-staffed". 6:30 it's still not ready, 6:45, two more minutes he says. My order wasn't ready till almost 7pm. No apology, nothing just a terrible attitude from the woman that finally brought out the order. While standing outside I looked at reviews and found this similar type of post from several other people. So obviously it wasn't a fluke occurance. I will not be going back. read more

We had reservations for twelve to have a birthday party and there was another reserved party of 8+ in addition to the bar side being full, and the bartender has to be the waitperson as well? We've always enjoyed this spot. Pizzas are original and for napoleon style on point. Salad, especially the beet, is a high point. Drinks are hand poured and usually stiff. Staff is always friendly to us, but I think they need more help.....past year they've been really skinny on staff and they seem to be treading water instead of adding another drink round or......? But hey! The struggles of a super small business are real and the review haters need to lighten up. Places like this make West Seattle a gift to all of us living there. read more

I wasn't taken by Pizzeria 22 in the food sense but found the ambiance to be particularly enjoyable. I felt like I was transported to a tiny hole in the wall place somewhere in Italy. Paintings on the wall and the big wooden stove in the corner were all fun to stare at. There are outdoor tables which were all full despite the blustery weather. I would have to give the pizza two and half stars. It was really uninspired and missed the mark. It was flimsy, soggy, and lacking taste. Perhaps it was our fault for coming on a busy night but can a busy night be a good enough excuse for lackluster food? Another issue was the waiter. While I admire folks who don't write down orders and can present the correct food this waiter did not accomplish that feat. We had to remind him about a missing drink and a missing pie. The one redeeming quality of Pizzeria 22 was the dessert. We ordered the Hazelnut calzone and it was splendid. Full of nutty chocolate and a fresh calzone with gelato. We almost had an issue trying to split it evenly since we all wanted more. That was the perfect way to end the night. I would give Pizzeria 22 another chance especially since the dessert made up for the meager pizza. I know something is going right in that place. read more

First, let me say as someone who lived in Italy for many years, I was thrilled to have a pizzeria in West Seattle that served authentic wood-fired Napoli-style pizza. However, this is probably the worst pizza experience I've had in ages. The place is tiny, compact and deafening in volume. However, that could have been forgiven if the pizza had been made properly. Our pizzas came to our table charcoal burnt on the edges and silver dollar size black burn marks on the bottom. When, I told the waiter that this was not acceptable (if one tried to serve someone something like these in Italy, the restaurant would lose word of mouth in days), the waiter took them back to the pizzaiolo, who obviously didn't know how to keep turning the pizzas and he remarked that is how they are supposed to be! Then, the waiter suggested I was wrong about how pizzas are meant to be. Needless to say, we left and shall not return. Go to Tutta Bella instead or support Phonecia on Alki. Ma dai! ** Update. The owner reached out to me after contacting directly about our experience and offered an apology. I was really pleased with his dedication to customer service from the top. It is, however, the dedication which has to reach down to the actual dining experience that also matters. Without a qualified pizzaiolo, I can't imagine going back. An analogy comes to mind. Someone with passion builds a multi-million dollar recording studio and invites top artists to record there but in order to save money, hires a six-year-old to be the engineer. So, Pizzeria 22, I salute your efforts in bringing real pizza to West Seattle. Now, go the next step and hire some qualified people to make and serve it and you'll do fine. After a stop at a fav of ours (Flying Squirrel) and finding no vegetarian special and a removal of any hef, pilsner, or wheat beer we decided to head back to our hood and check this place out. So Glad We Did! Waaaaayyyyyy better than Via Tribunali! We ordered a salad each (both of us had the Insalata 22) and 1 pizza (Milano) - perfect amount of food. The pizza was hot and tasty - perfect pairing and amount of ingredients cooked to perfection. Some other posts commented on the temp and service - a Monday night in October meant the temperature in the restaurant was comfortably toasty for me. Both the hostess and the server were friendly, attentive, helpful, and prompt. We could not have asked for better service and food. We will definitely be back. read more

Have to say...I'm impressed for sure. Great space, friendly service and fine pies. Started off with some apps: stuffed mushrooms and clams in a red sauce. The clams took the show and really started off the night right. The sauce was lap-worthy...yeah, I did ask for a straw. I'll go there. The pies were great- love the egg on top of one of the olive oil based pies...really tasty. One of the pies had a tad underdone crust...I didn't mention anything, but I bet if I did- they would have taken it back and helped a brotha out. Perfectly fine neapolitan style wood fired pizza, but the prices are 30% higher than what they should be & the staff has been consistently inattentive each of the 5 times I've been. Give the place a try if you haven't ever been, but with the opening of Miopisto, which is directly across the street & has significantly better pizza, I can't foresee making another a return trip to Pizzeria 22. read more

We began the night waiting for a table, which meant standing outside for what felt like forever because, yikes, it's sooooo tiny in there! The bar takes up most of the restaurant and makes it virtually impossible to move from one end to the other. But whatever. It's cold, it's the middle of winter, not like that's their fault. But we waited...and waited...and waited. Finally a table opened up and even though it was cramped we were just happy to be inside. Hubby ordered a mexican coke (cool!) and we started in on our salad, the insalata verde. It was divine! The pancetta was perfectly crisp and they didn't overdo the dressing. Fresh and wonderful. Next we tried the stuffed mushrooms and I think I can safely say I could have eaten three more of that dish. Big, big recommend. We then moved on to the primavera and pizza bianco. I'd never been to a place where you have to slice your own pizza so that was a little bit of a suprise, but kind of fun! I'm a big fan of thin crust and nothing beats a wood-fired pizza so I was a happy girl! Judging by the two pizzas we orderd I'm pretty sure they're all equally awesome. My only complaint was that our server messed up our checks and charged us twice -which we didn't find out until it showed up on our bank statement. We called and were able to talk to the owner who was a bit grudging about the whole affair but assured us that he would take care of it. It took a while, but the charge dropped off and they sent us a 10% off coupon in the mail. I think we will definitely return, but definitely not at such a busy time. Pizza 22 better than this or that? Really? I dunno, it's different. The experience at the bar, which seems more "diner-ish" is quite different. The size of the place (and the included heat from the oven) is quite different. I cant wait to go back in winter and feel the warmth...but I am so glad they got outdoor seating. If they hadn't been able to secure that, I'm not sure anyone would go in the summer. I think the pizza is meh-OK. Its like Via Trib, and the happy hour price is great. But for the regular menu, I'm just not sure. I think unless I am wow-ed, I may only be in because the happy hour is cheap for pizza and I can get a whiskey (hooray full bar). We live in the area so wanted to check this place out. We have now been here twice. Both times it was good, but the second time was better because of service. The first time the place was nearly empty and the bartender/our server barely came to our table. He was dismissive and seem uninterested in serving the three, he's only three, occupied tables. The pizzas are delicious but expensive, which is why I took off a star. For a 12 inch gluten free margarita pizza (so no meat), it's $22 which is steep. I recommend going during happy hour when the prices are significantly reduced albeit a more limited menu. read more

I cannot express how excited I am about Pizzeria 22. If you could only have seen how happy I was yesterday after I finished that perfect meal. I'll try to tell you, but just know that all the awesomeness that I write about is actually 100 times more awesome in real life. Here's how it went: Insalata 22: a well executed salad with fresh lettuce, juicy sweet grape tomatoes, salty black olives, extra creamy goat cheese, a light coating of good balsamic vinegar, and a dash of freshly ground pepper. Salads aren't meant to overload you with creamy dressings. They are supposed to be a light and fresh starter for a meal. And that's exactly what this was. Hamma hamma clams: Oh jesus sweet lord, they were amazing. Truly the most interesting and well executed clam dish I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Not just a plain white wine sauce. A fresh tomato, garlic, and parsley white wine broth. The most tender clams you ever tasted. And a side of foccacia to soak up the delicious broth you just hate to leave behind. I'm not doing it justice and it kills me. Pear, Gorgonzola, Prosciutto, Red Onion Pizza: This is probably one of my most favoritest combos of all time so it would've been hard, near impossible to let me down. Even so, I could still tell it was perfectly executed and that that kind of perfection would carry onto all their other pizzas. They've got the thinnest crust you've ever seen. They always use good ingredients. The pear at first seemed to be cut a little thicker than I would like, causing the pear to not be the soft consistency that I am used to. But actually the crunchiness of the pear added a great texture and since the pear was good, it worked out fine, better than fine! The gorgonzola was delicious and there was plenty of it. The prosciutto was thin and salty and not overcooked so that it was crispy. Fresh red onion is always welcome to me. It was all around amazing. Bravo. Nutella Calzone with Key lime pie gelato: And this just sealed the deal. It came out warm and puffy and light filled with a generous amount of nutella but not too much that it was overwhelming. And I don't even like key lime pie so I wasn't all that excited about the gelato. And I couldn't have been more wrong. It was so fresh tasting and then you could taste the little bits of graham cracker in it. I hate myself for not being able to describe the kind of ecstasy this dessert brought me. I won't say anymore except that you should go for yourself so that you can experience the kind of pain that I feel right now for not being able to show just how amazing this place is. I first tried pizza from these folks years ago when they had a mobile catering service called 'Inferno Pizza' (they may still have it), and at the time I remember that it was excellent. So when I heard they were opening a brick & mortar restaurant in my neighborhood, I was pretty excited. Well, I FINALLY got to visit last night and I wasn't disappointed... Fantastic Neapolitan pizza, a cute and cozy venue and a decent cocktail/beer selection. My wife and I shared the Insalata 22 salad, which was fresh and tasty, then she had the Al Pepperoni pizza and I the Pancetta, which was fantastic. This will definitely be a future 'date night' stop. A month ago or so, I ordered pizza online. When I got there, they didn't have my order or know anything about it. The remade the order, which was not correct but took it and headed on my way. The young lady also provided me with a gift card, which I was reluctant to use. Last week, I went in to use the card and told the bartender (Carl) that I was just there for a couple glasses on the house and that was it. I told him my story, he offered the drinks and was apologetic about the situation and assured me the next visit would be better. Great recovery! I went back and was blown away by the service, food and welcoming ambiance. I have been back 3 times and love this place! I was a national hotel mystery shopper for 3 years and a GM of a large hotel company, with a masters in Hotel Management. Trust me, they don't teach the service and hospitality this place offered me. My wife and I have been here 6 times and we really do think it's the best pizza in West Seattle, but the experience can vary depending on the night. Weeknights are definitely best if you don't want to wait (or make a reservation). We went there this past Saturday at about 8:30 and knew we were going to have to wait. We got a table pretty fast (about 10 minutes) and were seated at a table near the back. If you haven't been there, the main dining room is basically one long bench with tables that can be combined to form parties of 2,4 or 6. As we were walking up to our table we saw a guy in a flannel sitting in the middle of the tables talking to a table of 4 women. I squeezed by and took my seat on the bench figuring he was just saying hello to some friends. About 20 minutes went by and I sat there, 6 inches away from him with his back facing me and it appeared he was in it for the long haul so we scooted the table to the right to get a little elbow room and not encroach on the other diners to the right of us. And then he just took up more room. After another 10 or so minutes he gets up. We're free! Nope, he then goes behind the bar and gets a round of shots for the table he is at. Wait a minute, this guy works here? We asked our server who he was. Not only does he work here, he's the owner! None other than Carey Kemp himself. He stuck around for a total of 60 minutes total. I don't know if he was flirting with one of the ladies, maybe his girlfriend, his wife, whatever. I don't really care what he was doing. We were just really disappointed that his behavior was so unprofessional on a busy Saturday night, with tables stacked up and your servers busting their rumps to turn tables. You are the owner, I get it. You can flirt with whomever you want and buy drinks for whomever you want. Next time just don't do it on a busy night at the expense of the other patrons in your restaurant and probably the moral of your servers. The food was great as always, but it's going to take awhile for the bitter taste of this experience to wear off before and if we come back. read more

Loved P22! Very reminiscent to Via Tribunali, but seemed more homey. It's cozy quarters between the bar seating and the table seating, so be prepared for that. Like other neighborhood neopolitan style pizzerias there's an authentic wood fire oven in the back corner doing all the work. LOVE. Before we even ordered we saw smores being prepped and placed into said oven. Brilliant! I'm not a smore eater, but I'm sure smore-lovers would like this a lot. We started with the stuffed mushrooms. We received a nice portion of 6 or 7 mushroom caps filled with cheese and set atop a lovely fresh tomato sauce. Hit the spot. The 'za we decided on was the Pizza Bianco. When it arrived it was slightly charred, piping hot, and still in one piece. P22 lets you do the cutting. I know some people don't like that, so I'm sure if you ask to have them slice it up they would probably oblige. I don't mind it myself. Anyway, the herbed ricotta was SO good, and crust was light and chewy, and perfectly cooked. Amazing. There's a full bar, and lots of beer and wine choices. They also have mexican coke if that's your thing. I'm so very happy to have yet ANOTHER pizza option in my hood. And Neopolitan to boot! Now I don't have to travel far to get my fix at Bar del Corso or VT :) read more

We went here on Saturday (even after reading a negative review on the west seattle blog about the burnt crust). The place was empty when we arrived just after they opened. The venue is a tad small and things are a little hot the closer you are to the pizza oven. We ordered the mushroom appetizer (which the other half loved - I don't eat mushrooms and so cannot comment), a chicken margherita pizza (good crust, no burn marks, excellent sauce but sub par chicken - it seemed like cut chicken you could buy pre cut in bulk and was tasteless), and the s'mores (just enough to share and a tad gooey - should be served with small plates). Clearly there are kinks to be worked out, but overall it's a nice addition to the North Admiral neighbourhood. The music was a little loud, if there had been more customers it may have been hard to hold a conversation with your dining companion. Also, I went to ask the waitress a question when she dropped off the check and she just walked away - she needs to be more aware of her surroundings. read more

I've only come for happy hour, but that's enough to make me love this place. $4 glasses of wine, $1 beers (during Power Hour) and $5 wood-fired tastes-like-youre-in-Italy pizza makes for a really happy hour, or two! I've eaten pizza Italy, and this pizza compares well. The HH pizzas are the perfect one-person size. The crust is what stands out the most, followed by the fresh cheese and a perfect tomato sauce. All the flavors just work. During HH, I usually get the margherita pizza. My fiance once got the pepperoni, which I found way too oily for my liking. I've also tried their olive tempenade appetizer, which I wouldn't recommend - way too salty - and their stuffed mushrooms, which I would recommend - mushrooms stuffed with cheese and topped with their tasty tomato sauce, what's not to love! I can't speak for the pizzas on their regular menu, but I can say I want to try them! They have some very interesting, different flavor combinations and they also have the basics. They do look quite large - easily can be shared between two, maybe three people (unlike the HH pizzas, which are more individually sized). Great atmosphere, though the restaurant is small and fills up fast. Parking is such a hassle here, but you'll eventually find something. I've actually been to Pizzeria 22 three times now. I love the idea of an intimate little pizza place on College street just far enough off California to really be an attraction to locals and not the Admiral Pub or Mission crowds. I think they did a nice job with the space, it's small and intimate, and the dim lighting gives it a nice atmosphere. I do highly recommend sitting as close to the front as possible as the rear, near the pizza oven, is very, very warm. The staff there isn't the best or friendliest I've ever been served by, they tend to no pay much attention to a single diner, maybe because the check and tip aren't as large as a table of four. My biggest problem though is the food. The pizza recipes on the menu are great and I love a good thin crust pizza but this place has something wrong with their recipe or their oven because each time I've eaten there the pizza crust just below the cheese and toppings has a paste like, doughy quality to it. Which is hard to believe because it's very thin and cooked in a super hot oven. It's hard to cut through and the pizza toppings slide right off. I've asked about it and received a less than acceptable response. One bartender even tried to blame it on moisture from the mushrooms. He replaced my pizza with another and it was no different. I hope they figure it out but so fat they haven't.but I don't think I'll be going back anytime soon. read more

Went to have dinner at Pizzeria 22 on a weeknight. It wasn't very crowded and we were able to sit right away. We were excited to eat out side, but someone left a dirty diaper under the table we were going to sit at, so we decided to sit inside. Covid mask requirements for vaccinated people was unclear. We decided to error one the side to wear our masks. The server was pretty middle of the road, not rude, but also not very friendly. Overall the food matches that as well, pretty middle of the road. We started with the eggplant Parmesan appetizer. This definitely needed something. It felt incomplete. Maybe some sort of bread to dip in the marinara sauce. It also was on the bland side. They have only a spicy oil on the table. I totally get not having salt and pepper on the table, but properly season your food. The pizzas are wood fired, but also are just missing something. We got the Quattro formaggi with prosciutto and the grilled chicken pesto with goat cheese. The crust has a pretty good consistency, although one of them got a little too charred on the underside. Both needed a little bit more sauce and some salt. Overall the experience left us as "meh". read more

This review pertains to the service, as there are plenty of other reviews that address the food quality. We were there on a busy night. We made a reservation via Open Table but they hadn't figured out how to actually use it yet apparently, and thus we had to wait along with the other poor schleps to get seated. They offered us a few glasses of wine to help soften the disappointment which was nice. Great for the adults, but not for two hungry kids in tow. I would've left at the get-go but since we were with friends, I didn't want to cause a commotion.This only got worse as I observed our servers continually take long delays between returns to our table to attend to us. Yes, the kitchen was clearly busy, but to see our server stop and chat with other servers, while we still hadn't received all of our drinks...or to have another server who was bringing our appetizers (an hour after arrival by the way so we were ready to gnaw our arms off at that point) literally stop a few feet from our table, while holding our food and to talk to the owner about something was more than eye rolling. This was further maddening that when our pizzas finally came out of the oven and were waiting to be delivered to our table, our server was at the other end of the bar talking to another employee for an extended time that was ridiculously unacceptable. I was moments away from going to pick up the pizzas myself and he finally made eye contact with me and was abruptly brought back into reality that he was a server at a restaurant with actual customers at tables (!). Oh yeah, in the total time from arrival until we were brought our check, we could have ordered a pizza from Pagliacci and had it delivered. Twice in a row. read more

I really did enjoy the pizza. It Neapolitan style done well, but their topping style is meh and Overpriced!! I understand paying for good food - but everything down to the draft beer was higher than expected. I feel like they are cashing in on the uniqueness and not of what is actually being served. If you do go, as I said the pizza is enjoyable - just get pizza and water. They serve tasty free bread before hand so you'll be solid even splitting two people one pizza. This place used to be a real standout in the neighborhood when it first opened and the 18 months following. Amazing fresh salads with unique ingredients, abundant charcuterie boards and the fire roasted pizza was outstanding! Now it feels cheapened, stale and lacking charm. We moved but returned for dinner with old friends. I was shocked at how it's gone down hill. The extensive creative cocktail list is gone and replaced with 6 -8 boring options. No more Yazi Osborne? The server had no idea what I was talking about. Wine list has been parred down with ho-hum basic options. For the menu,many items have lost their farm fresh feel. Salads now look like they came from a bag or with ingredients from a deli. Our salad were sad and monotone piles of green. The Caprese came with canned tomatoes when it was always served with fresh sliced tomatoes? Our pizzas were raw in the middle and toppings were sparse. Even the scissors used to cut the Pizza felt cheap and are no longer sharp - they look like they belong with a plastic cutlery setup. Tables were bare with a mini happy hour menus propped up. There used to be cute vials of chili oil, candles, small bowls of chili flakes and nice napkins on every table. Now I feel like I am in a BBQ joint with blank table tops and heavy laminated plastic menus that are both easy to wipe down. And the cheap rough paper napkins, you know the type that roll if you do much as rub yours fingers on them. Although the place was quiet with only 2 tables the staff was more interested in chatting with each other rather than taking a drink order/food order/or checking in. Annoying to be ignored from 5 feet away. Could I get some salt? Chili oil? Maybe a drink refill? I miss the old staff, extensive menu, and general charm. No wonder its dead in there. read more

Atmosphere is warm and houses a comfortable din of noise from other patrons - not too loud but social and invigorating. Brandy is an excellent bartender.
