This place is absolutely average. The pizza tastes like hand tossed style, not super thin, with a sizable crust. The crust has cornmeal rolled into it. We ordered Margherita pizza and for the 2nd pie, the prosciutto spinach since they ran out of arugula. Both pies had dough that was somewhat tough. The Margherita pizza had very lightly added basil, not cooked very much and light on cheese. It's still pizza, but lacks that ooey goodness that hits the spot. read more

Was craving pizza on a Sunday afternoon and saw this place on the spring rewards so I decided to give it a shot. Chose the margarita con carne with pepperoni as the meat. I rushed home once I picked up the pizza, and enjoyed the pie on my couch with Silicon Valley playing. Loved the hearty flavour and chew of the crust, sauce was fresh and flavourful and the basil worked well with the pepperoni. I have half the pizza left and definitely will be adding some more basil to the pie. Next time I may dine in since I liked the vibe with the huge brick oven. read more

I came here on a Tuesday night around 6:30pm with my husband after finding the place through Freevo app. We were seated immediately, no wait! Always a plus. Their specials for Tuesday nights are buy a large pizza, get one half off and $2 well drinks (that's a bargain). We ordered a half portion of the arugula and Parmesan salad ($5). It's as advertised: arugula, Parmesan and a lemon vinaigrette. Simple and clean, and the portion size was huge for a half portion. My husband and I were able to split it before the pizza came! We also ordered a large sweet heat pizza which came with Mama Lil's peppers, sausage, and honey drizzle. It's a killer pizza! The peppers are pickled, and they're pretty intense. It made my face pucker, but it works well with the sausage and honey! A large pizza can truly feed 2-3 people, with each person getting 2 or 3 slices. We ended up having 3 slices for leftovers! Also ordered a large cheese pizza to take home! Curious to see how this reheats in the oven. The slices are a little floppy, so I did fold it in half while I was eating it. The staff is pretty friendly. Nothing to write home about regarding service, but our drinks remained full, so nothing to complain about! We're definitely come back here. read more

I feel bad it took over a year to review a place I visit on a regular basis. The pizza is great and the quality consistent. My husband and I had our small rehearsal dinner here - and they were not only accommodating but helped make the entire meal stress-free (which is exactly what I was hoping for). We had a similar rehearsal pizza dinner for our NYC ceremony in 2012 (figured it would be fun to replicate some of the best parts of our two part wedding celebration). I'm happy to say our Chicago pizza experience was more memorable here. :) The beer selection, while modest in size, has the higher-end choices as well as some old standards. The Diavolo pizza is my favorite (perfect amount of heat - especially with some extra crushed red pepper). read more

The pizza reminds me of the pizza I had in France on the side of a vineyard in a open flame oven pop-up pizzeria, run by a father and two of his daughters. The ingredients are fresh, the peperoni is on top of the cheese, the thin crust is delicious without being soggy. We ordered a large and between 2 people and one 3yr old, it was gone in less than I would like to admit. We will definitely become regulars...only down point is they do not deliver...however, it's worth getting out of the house for. read more

We ordered delivery last night, as neither of us felt like cooking. The online ordering process was pretty easy. The software isn't as good as the major chains (thinking Domino's here), but I'd put it on par with a Grub Hub type of interface. It was a little weird getting the estimated delivery time only via email and not at the end of the ordering process. The FOOD!! We ordered a Margherita Pizza and the Meat Your Heart Out. It was good. I wasn't sure what to expect out of a brick oven crust as I'm more a fan of Stuft/Deep Dish pizza. Shocker, eh? The crust was good, had a nice bit of char on it, some good crunch, with the inside being delightfully pillowy. The sauce was good, cheese was fine, the meats tasted good. The sausage was a bit more like meatballs than like a typically sliced sausage-that was great to me. However, I kept thinking that the pizza was a fancier version of a Papa John's type of pizza...not exactly anything special. The crust especially reminded me of their pizza. Don't get me wrong, I liked the pizza....I finished a small (11inch) in a sitting w/o hesitation. However, would I go out of my way to order this place again or for the foreseeable future for delivery? Nope, but I would like to go there for pizza and beer. Their beer list looks awesome...and I think their pizza would be much better paired with a sampling of good beers. Think of amazing bar pizza, or good delivery pizza-not great, but nowhere near bad. I'll admit, when driving by Pizzeria Serio day after day on my way to and from work I just assumed it was another so-so pizza joint in a sea of hundreds of pizza joints in Chicago. All I can say is...you know what happens when you assume. Pizzeria Serio is really, really good! We finally decided to try them out on a Tuesday when they have their buy 1 pizza get 1 50% off special. We ordered the Margherita and the Meat Your Heart Out and loved them both. Their pizza is very thin with a delicious tomato sauce and a thick, yet soft and chewy, crust. Their pizza is very similar to Sapori di Napoli that was further east on Belmont, they've unfortunately just gone out of business, good for Pizzeria Serio I guess! you gotta love it when a random grubhub decision leads to some pretty damn good pizza. I was over at my friend's watching the bears game and pizza was a necessary. I let my friend do the selecting and we ended up getting a sausages and peppers pizza. It had both green and red peppers on it. They also added some basil and it equaled a damn fine pie. Dude yummy! Fantastic thin crust pizza. The toppings were super fresh (green bell peppers and onions). The green peppers especially - bright green and perfectly crispy. The Italian sausage was also delightful with that nice kick of flavor but didn't over-power the other ingredients. Would maybe have liked a touch more of sauce but we had four toppings so that's kinda expected. The crust is crispy and delightful. Overall, just a solid balance of flavors and textures. Wonderful service!!! And you can watch your pizzas being made and then baked in the oven. Plus they have an extensive craft beer list and a full bar! The place was packed on a Wednesday evening. We started out with the flat-bread appetizer, which was $6. It was massive!! (Almost the same size as the pizza!) It was yummy, with lots of pesto and cheese. For our main course we got the spinach pizza and split the chopped salad. Both were very good! The chopped salad was massive, and they did not skimp on the ingredients. Went here for dinner with my boyfriend and it was okay. We started with the meatballs that were pretty good. The pizza we got was the goat cheese and spinach which was pretty tasty! However, we waited at least 30 minutes for our dessert. We ordered the hot brownie with ice cream on top. The place was super busy, but we literally waited for ever for a dessert the size of the palm of my hand. The waitress seen that I was antsy and gave us a couple dollars off of our bill which was nice! I think it was half price appetizer night so the place was packed. Very good pizza. I've been here multiple times now, and it hasn't disappointed me. It's good and fresh, and you can tell that the ingredients are superior to other places. I enjoy that. Also, you can't go wrong with pizza-well you can, but this place doesn't, which is good. I highly recommend the Diavolo pizza, which I liked a lot. I also have enjoyed the Spinach pizza and am looking forward to the ultimate cheese pizza, because I love cheese! This is good pizza. The thin crust is actually thin and crispy, not at all soggy underneath the ingredients. Atmosphere is nice as well-everyone that works there is very friendly, as is the owner. Excellent pizza and atmosphere. I'm dropping it to four stars only because the service was very slow. We went on a Friday night and between their recent Groupon and it being Friday, it was slow. However, it was well worth the wait for our pepperoni and artichoke heart (ok, weird, I know) pizza. They have one size and it's plenty for two - could be three if you're light eaters. We started with the stuffed goat cheese mushroom plate. Decent price and pretty tasty. Also, the manager realized how slow it was and offered us a free round of drinks. Pizzeria Serio is a great location for thin crust wood oven pizza in Lakeview. The restaurant is lofted with both booths and tables surrounding a small bar in the middle of the place. There is an upstairs room that they use for large groups or parties. The service is pretty good with a wait staff that knows the menu well and makes good recommendations on their pizza. The pizza is the star of the show here - the crust is thin and light - certainly the opposite of the traditional Chicago thick crust deep dish pizza. You can eat three or four pieces and not feel like a slob here - which is always nice... The sauce is good - not too sweet and not too acidic from the tomatoes. They have a variety of pizza's or you can create your own. The appetizers are OK - the caprese salad is a good option as they are generous with the mozzarella on the tomatoes. The beer list is good and seasonal - which is nice to see. Plenty of options for a good brew to accompany your pizza. I absolutely love pizza, and as such I can be pretty particular. We stumbled upon this place while walking around on a lazy Sunday and decided to give it a try. It's got your typical pizzeria atmosphere, and the day we went had specials for kids so there were a lot of families. We got an order of the garlic twists, which while pretty standard, were delicious. We split the Chef's Special pizza of the day, I think it was called California Dreaming, with cheese, red onion, banana peppers and something else. It was AMAZING. Normally I'm not a fan of all the things that were on this pizza, but it all came together so well and the crust was nice and crispy. They seem to have pretty good weekly specials, so I'd love to come back. Our server was a bit slow and forgetful, but very friendly and we weren't in a hurry. read more

Woodfired pizza has to be my favorite form of pizza - and this place did not disappoint. We came here with a Living Social on a Wed. night and it was pretty quiet, very nice for a relaxing dinner on a cold night. We ordered the Diavolo and the Ultimate Cheese (at which point our server pointed out that that's a lot of food for the two of us) - that's ok I wanted leftovers for dinner the next night getting out of cooking 2 nights in a row, bonus! Pizzas are described as being large enough for two, which makes Serio a relatively inexpensive option for thin crust fans. Service was personal and friendly, unlike some joints that will drop the bill on your table as soon as you pick up the last slice. I was here recently for a group event - while the celebrities were waltzing down the Red Carpet at the Oscars and likely tucking their abs in, we feasted on awesome thin crust pizzas in our shabby attires and shared our views on their fashion excesses! Pizzeria Serio is a great place to host an event - the owner and bartender did more than their fair share to up the energy of a rather subdued crowd in addition to serving up a constant supply of good specialty thin crusts - loved the veggie, liked the cheese and spinach, but not as much. The multiple large screen TVs and a comfortably large, well spread out area makes it an ideal spot to get a bunch of people together, regardless of the ocassion. Loved the decor, the location and the general vibes of the place - clean, chic, very River North, a taste of NY in the best part of Chicago. I'm so happy this place opened up right down the street. I have never had a bad experience here, ever. The service is excellent. My boyfriend and I went in there very close to closing and rather than turn us away, the owner whipped up a free pizza for us to take to go. There's no better service than that. Every pizza I've tried there (which is probably all but 2) has been excellent. It's the perfect thickness, amount of cheese and toppings and texture. Now that it's warming up outside, I look forward to sitting near the open windows in the front. Great blend of families and friends and seating options. And they deliver to boot! read more

I live right around the block from this place, and I was waiting to write my review until they settled in... I must say that I am impressed. I'm not a New Yorker, but I'm from Detroit where, surprisingly, there is a lot of good thin pizza. When I got to Chicago a couple years ago, I thought I would be able to find something similar....something thin at least! However, it's pretty hard to find a good NY piece in the chi... The pizza here is truly great - singed edges and chewy thin goodness on the inside - GREAT sauce and excellent mozzarella, any extra toppings are a bonus :) Mini Calzonees, as mentioned in previous reviews are worth getting - if it were up to me, I would put a little less Ricotta, and a little more Mozzarella... Pizza Serio is a winner! I feel priviliged to have this great little place so near, and look forward to re-visiting when I have friends or family in town. It's a great Chicago place, setup very nicely, warm atmosphere, open layout not too crowded, clean, nice staff, and great pizza! We got the menu-described "highly addictive" mini-calzonees to start. After judging for myself I agree with the restaurants description of them being highly addictive. I was glad that they were accompanied by a small dish of their homemade pizza sauce because it was the only part of our meal that involved a sufficient amount of sauce. By the second slice of "Meat Your Heart Out" pizza, my buddy and I put a hold on sprinkling parmesan cheese on it in order to avoid further dryness. Maybe it was just that the sauce was so good that we wanted more. That's my main criticism for this place... that slightly wetter pizza would have been nice. Absolutely wonderful! We went here yesterday for lunch to use a Groupon, and although street parking is virtually nonexistent, the food and service was worth the six trips around the block to find a space. As soon as we arrived we were promptly greeted and told to take a seat wherever we would like. The waitress was prompt with taking our drink and food orders, and never let our glasses stay empty for long. At one point even, someone we had not even seen before asked if I would like another Diet Coke. They definitely pay attention at this place. As an appetizer we ordered the Garlic Twists, which were amazing. For our pizza, we chose the Meat Your Heart Out. Diavola and caprese salad, this is one of our weekly spots kind of a hangout spot with friends, grab a pizza beer great way to fill up the belly. The pizzas are awesome and diavola is one of our favorites, has a nice spicy bite which compliments the sauce very well. I think I finally found my thin crust pizza! I'm from Texas and grew up around Pizza Hut, dominos, etc. I just love a good cheap chain thin crust pizza for some reason. Like others from the east coast (Boston, specifically), I'm constantly on the hunt for great east coast-style pizza in Chicago. No, not pizza made on dough so thin it's like pita bread. Real, true east cost thin crust. With a crust. A nice, thick, bubbly crust. OH - and pizza that is pie cut. (Who decided to start cutting circular pizza into squares?!?!) Then appears Pizzeria Serio, and right down the street from me, no less! I've been twice since it opened and have loved it both times. We had the mini calzones both times for apps, and they were delicious! DEEEElicious! I've also tried the margharita, margharita con carne (sausage) and four cheese pizzas, and have loved them all. The staff was great both times too - super friendly and attentive. We talked to the manager the first time and told him how much we loved the food. He was super welcoming and appreciative of what we had to say. They have a good beer/wine list, and the prices are totally reasonable. The space is great - nice and big, and I believe they are opening the upstairs as a "sports bar." Looking forward to checking that out during football season or for a private party. Unfortunately, both times I was there the place wasn't that crowded. COME ON PEOPLE - GET THERE!!! You will not be disappointed. read more

Solid pizza place. Cozy and casual atmosphere. In the back there is a the brick oven and a guy tossing pizza dough in the air (loved that). Respectable beer list, needs more options but, I know that takes time. The food: Spinach Dip: Yes, two thumps up! (mmm warm, toasty pita on the side) Diavolo Pizza: YES, do it! Do, it! This is my second review and with that a bit of improvement in my rating. Our first experience at Pizzerio Serio was certainly below average. This time, I would put it as a solid experience, but with not a lot of wow factor. For starters we had the goat cheese appetizer. It arrived promptly and actually was the hilight for me. Its red sauce was very tangy, tasty and when combined with the goat cheese, created a wonderful, creamy sauce to dip the freshly prepared bread wedges into. They serve thin bread wedges made out of the same dough as the pizza. I liked this. For goat cheese app lovers, I recommend it. We ordered a standard pizza, sausage and mushroom. It came hot and ready to go. Ingredients tasted fresh, and there was enough of everything on it. Overall, a tasty, well prepared pie. But, in the end, nothing extraordinary, but I suspect that is partially due to the rather basic selection we made. However much better than our first experience with one of the specialty pizzas, which my review can attest to. They have since acquired their liquor license, so I had a Belgian style bottle that was very good. Their beer selection shows a little creativity, and, as a beer lover, I would love to see them really up the ante on this. That alone would bring me back again. The room is a pleasant space, with bar in front, and tables in back. Its a warm rustic impression, but is lacking decor. A few paintings, object d'art, even some small touches on the tables like unique flower vases or candles would go a long way in adding some sophistication to the otherwise sparse environment. Overall, a solid dining experience, so three stars it is. With an even bigger, more exotic tap list, and some touches of creativity on the interior, this place would really stand out to me. Bought a Groupon for this place. With me, more is more, so I was very pleased with the Caesar salad chock full of Parmesan and the Margherita pizza with abundant basil. My husband and I loved the Margherita -- so much that we polished off the entire pizza. The extremely thin crust was refreshing after eating lots of deep dish. My only complaint is the place was pretty loud and tightly packed (on a Friday night). I had to practically yell to speak with our server, and we were seated at a table squeezed between two others. It felt like the couples on either side of us were watching us eat and listening to our conversation (my husband said one girl actually "looked at us with judgment in her eyes" when she saw that we had eaten a whole pizza, hahaha.) read more

This place is right down the street from me, so I've been to it several times now. I've been here with my boyfriend, a girlfriend, family, and I've been here for a birthday party in the large upstairs area. Every visit here has been consistently good. The pizza is cooked in an open kitchen where you can see them tossing pizza dough and throwing it into the brick oven. The crust comes out soft on the inside and crispy on the outside with just the right amount of thickness. There is a good variety of pizzas to choose from or you can create your own. I really enjoy the Spinach, Sausage and Peppas, and Margarita con Carne pizzas. I also highly recommend the mini calzones appetizer....very scrumptious! The atmosphere is casual with a mix of 20 somethings and families. I've never had to wait long for a table and the service is always very friendly. It is also a very reasonably priced restaurant. All of the pizzas average about $16 and is more than enough for 2 people. They also have great weekly specials. This place is a great addition to the neighborhood and I will continue to come back here often! read more

Went here recently - has nice decor and a large bar, plus a cool pizza oven right at the back. Pizzeria Serio is a very casual place and quite laid back. But I'm sure you want to hear about the pizza rather than the decor, right? :) We had the Margherita con Carne (with Canadian Bacon). The pizza is quite large, around 15" and has a really thin crust - not as soggy as New York style, but certainly foldable and moldable. Between the two of us, it was just the right amount of pizza. The sauce was good - not too acidic, not too overpowering and slightly sweet. But for a $17 pizza there was not enough topping - it could have used three times the bacon to get the balance right. EXCELLENT thin crust pizza! Although Chicago is known for it's deep dish, sometimes I would rather choose a thinner variety. Pizzeria Serio is the best I've found in the city. I had it for the first time a few nights ago and I left feeling stuffed because I couldn't say no to a third slice. My mom and I split a house salad (also great) and a pizza. We had leftovers, too. The pizza comes in one size only, but it is plenty for 2-3 people to share. One of the owners was there and he was very friendly, too. Dine in----We've come for dinner several times and are generally satisfied. The Veggie pizza is bland but the Margarita makes me go to heaven. The Spinach White pizza is divine especially dipped in marinara! My fussy toddler asks for this pizza and so do I!! ====== Private Party-----We had our 2 year old's birthday party in their upstairs party room and it was fabulous. We trashed the place with hay and farm decor and they were totally ok with everything. Sarah was more than sweet, laid-back, and accommodating when I had questions or needed help. Actually, she never said no to me about anything (moving tables/chairs, hanging/taping decor, set up) and I was a little worried about it prior since we had a musician and balloon twister coming in who needed room plus 14 crazy toddlers. Everyone loved the artichoke dip, spinach salad, and pizzas. I brought in a trough of my own goodies for the farm theme, and they didn't mind at all. Probably the most accommodating place I've thrown a party. I would def do another party here. The only downside was that the lighting is very dark. Luckily, our party was on a sunny day and it helped fill the room up with natural light. Also some of the email communication was a bit slow at times, but nothing to get sour over. I went in on 1/2 price wine and appetizer night! The garlic sticks are AMAZING! They look super dense, but they are light and fluffy. They have just enough garlic so you can taste it, but it's not obnoxious. My friend and I also had the spinach dip, which was also good. For appetizers, and two bottles of wine (yes, we are lushes), the bill came to about 35 bucks. Can't beat that! read more
