Like other reviewers, I was looking forward to this spot. The space is great! Open and spacious, but still feels cozy. The wide open windows at the front are great during the (upcoming) warm weather. Pizza was good, not great. The Serio Salad with balsamic was just ok. I hate that they offer the kitchy soft drinks in glass bottles. No refills and barely enough to last before you get your food. We sat at the bar and the bartender (apparently one of the owners) was pretty standoffish and rarely asked if needed anything or made conversation. In fact, he was texting a lot. I don't necessarily want a bartender that won't leave me alone, but we were 2 of about 5 at the bar. You'd think he'd have said something. Overall, the food is good and reasonably priced. I like it for the neighborhood, but not sure I'd go there if I didn't live down the street. read more

I went to Pizzeria Serio with a group of friends a few nights ago and......This is some GOOD Zaa.....not to mention, handled our loud group very nicely. We started off with the flatbread and mini calzones. Both were pretty good. The mini calzones, actually, were pretty awesome. The pizza's ordered were: Margherita Con Carne, Meat Your Heart Out, and Diavolo. Pretty much a meat lover's paradise and I don't know WHAT I was thinking when I said I didn't need to take the leftovers home.....somebody else had a pretty tremendous breakfast the next day. The service was great. Our server was a hard worker. The owner of the restaurant also came by a few times to see how we were doing. He seemed genuinely interested in our feedback as well (which was pretty cool). I'm sold and will be back. The prices are reasonable (especially compared to Lou Malnati's). You can't beat a good brick oven pizza, too. Chicago style is good but like lasagna on flatbread. Brick is thin, enjoyable, and you don't have to roll out of the place. I know this place is new. Went there because of the Groupon and my love for pizza. Had a great, great experience! It was quiet and not crowded in the least bit. Our waitress was lovely and attentive. She made some great recommendations. We had the stuffed veggies for and appetizer. They came out steaming hot and the goat cheese was delicious. The Diavolo pizza is wonderful if you are a meat eater (which usually I am not, but I was eating with my carnivorous boyfriend). It hot the spot perfectly. Definitely going to be visiting again! The only reason I took it down to 4 stars was the prices for pizzas seemed a tad high (not bad at all though). Beer was priced comparably to other places nearby. read more

Yummm! Tried this place for the first time and would happily go back for more! They do not take reservations but our party of 2 showed up on a Friday night at 7 and had no problem being seated quickly. Wine list was great although I really only checked out the whites. We ordered the caprese salad for an appetizer - so fresh and tasty. Really, you must try it. We went with a split pizza - half margherita and half veggie. I think the margherita was tastier, tho the veggie was my choice - and still good. The pizza was perfectly thin but not too crispy and crackery (which I don't like). The cheese on the margherita was scrumptious. The manager/host or whatever he was was excellent and very accomodating when we decided to move to the front after originally being seated in the back. Only complaint is that our waiter was clearly unaware of just about everything and we had to call him over after about 10 minutes of waiting for service. He seemed a little out of it the whole time, kind of bizarre. But I'd say the food and the other staff made up for his slacking. Good pizza, nice restaurant, i def recommend it. read more

Went here with a Groupon and we will most likely not be returning. Pizza was okay, but I agree with some other reviewers--it is definitely not NY-style pizza, no matter what our server claimed (I'm from the east coast and I'm convinced NY pizza tastes the way it does because of the NY water!) We split the margherita and the spinach (white) pizza and I liked the spinach one more. The small pies are pricey, $12 - $14 dollars for six small slices. Expect to pay more with the addition of more toppings. Service was friendly and our pizzas were served within a reasonable amount of time. For a bar/restaurant, it is child-friendly, but there were too many small children running back and forth the length of the room when we were there, even though it was crowded at 6:00 PM on a Thursday night. I kept waiting for one of the servers to go down amidst a hail of hot pizza sauce and melted cheese. Overall a semi-pleasant experience, but not one I will be repeating anytime soon. Try it if you're in the neighborhood, but I wouldn't recommend making a special trip, especially if you're traveling any great distance. read more

Ordered a pizza through GrubHub and the delivery person screwed up. It was over an hour and half and still no pizza. I wanted blood...there was no possible way that they were going to do anything right with this! But they did. Annette with GrubHub got on top of it and Sara at the restaurant sent a new one on the double...and it was terrific. Brick oven is a tough and healthy pizza. Nailed it. Delivery, ordered the Big Cheese Pizza, described as "tomato sauce with our fine blend of aged provolone, asiago, fresh mozzarella and finished with freshly grated grana padano." I go here every 2-3 weeks, and I've never had a bad experience. My b/f and I come here specifically for the goat cheese and marinara appetizer and the margherita pizza. I know they have goat cheese and marinara everywhere, but it's just better here for some reason - probably b/c the bread that comes with is REALLY good. Also, this is the best margherita pizza I've ever had. Here are some other reasons I'm giving this place 5 stars: 1) Never had to wait for a table, even on a Friday/Saturday night 2) Lots of good craft beer on tap 3) Good, quick service (the pizza comes out really fast - it's brick oven) 4) Decently priced 5) The pizza crust - my goodness, the crust! I think I like coming here more than Piece Pizza. Although Piece is fun and super delicious, I HATE the wait there! I lived in NYC before moving to Chicago, was a devoted Grimaldi's patron, and when I was I needed more than a slice in manhattan I would go to lombardi's (Ben's if you need a slice). Been here in chicago now for awhile and have tried most, if not all the pizzerias you need to, and would definitely put this one near the top of my list (frasca's pretty good but I think way over hyped and packed with yuppies, spacca napoli makes my mouth water ...). My family and I ate at Serio last night, instantly made me think of that ultimate pizza under the Brooklyn Bridge (won't put it up next to that NYC pizza, but hey this Chicago). Glad to see this part of the neighborhood getting some decent food, get out and support these guys. Excellent service and amazing food! My husband & I did not make reservations so we were not surprised when there was a wait on a Friday night in April. We put our names in with the host who ushered us to the bar for drinks. Not 10 minutes later, the owner ushered us to our table and had our drinks moved over, too. If you haven't been to Pizzeria Serio, you're missing out. Seriously. This brick oven pizza is the closest thing I've had yet in Chicago to some of the phenomenal thin crust pizza that I grew up on out East. The plain pies are delicious, and the margarita is a great option as well. The Thursday night special is an absolute steal: $20 for a pitcher of Miller Lite and a plain pie OR $25 for any pitcher and pizza combo. It's fantastic, and I could easily eat an entire Margarita pizza and down a pitcher of Daisy Cutter and feel that I'm coming out on top. Check this place out, you won't be disappointed. Not the best pizza, not the worst pizza. I was disappointed after all the amazing reviews for this place, because I thought it was just ok. I went on a Tuesday night, they were pretty busy and one waitress served all the tables. She was nice though, and our food didn't take too long. The Spinach and Artichoke dip was delicious! We then ordered Classic Margherita and the "big cheese" pizza. They were both good not great, the Margherita was a little plain. Just had my husband's 36th birthday there and had a great time! I went through the website and had constant contact with Sarah, event coordinator, and she was very quick to reply to all my emails and detailed questions. We had the second floor booked to ourselves on a Saturday night, with our very own bartender, Michael who was very attentive and extremely helpful. Everyone loved the food, the intimacy of having the second floor to ourselves while watching the Bulls game on several of their big screen TVs and great service. Had the spinach pizza. Loved it. I stopped in with my friend and got something to eat before we went to the bar. I couldn't have been happier with the way Serio crafted the spinach and goat cheese combo. I also loved that there was no marinara sauce. Although the pizza is great and we are frequent delivery guests, tonight's handling of our order from a customer service standpoint was extremely disappointing and will make me rethink being a customer again. I placed the order via their website and within a few minutes received notification the restaurant had canceled our order. I then called to be informed that "yes I did that; we are busy and it will be up to two hours." How is this acceptable customer service? The right thing to do would have been to either call me directly, or close your online system. I'm glad your busy, but you just lost repeat business by your lack of caring. read more

Just got back from dinner at this great pizza spot. My girlfriend got a Living Social Deal there for $15 for $30. We had been there once before but wanted to try it again. It was good the first time and even better the second time. We started off with two Half Acre Daisy Cutter Ale's (nice overall beer list) and the marinara and goat cheese appetizer. The beers were good and the appetizer was great and came with plenty of bread to dip. We ordered a half and half pizza comprised of the spinach white pizza and the "Big Cheese" red pie. It was very good and the portion size was much larger than other similar style pizza places in the area. Will definitely be back in the near future to try it again likely on a Tuesday (buy one pizza get one 1/2 off) or on a Wednesday (half price wine). read more

Yummy is all I can say!!!! I went there tonight with a couple of friends with 10 giftie dollars. I made all my friends sign up so actually 30 giftie dollars. I am a huge cheese lover. On my pizza I get extra, extra cheese, with very little sauce. I know sounds weird, but the butter crust and cheese are sooooo good. I'm very picky about pizza sauce but to my surprise it was tasty. They have a huge menu to choose from, and good chicken wings might I add. They also have a good selection of wines. Strolled in on Sunday which is family night. Kids get a free cheese pizza which is a deal. Started with a nice Italian salad and the house red at $20 was fantastic. Just had my first pie from Pizzeria Serio and man was it good! I am so happy that there are now quite a few good NY style pies to be had in Chicago. I really like a good Chicago style pie like Armand's for instance, but it just doesn't hold a candle to a good NY pie. So we had a large sausage delivered. Delivery was really fast, just about 30 minutes. As soon as I opened the door the aroma hit me and I knew instantly that I was gonna be happy. 1. Maybe the best sauce I've had outside of NYC. Really spot on. 2. Among the top 3 crusts I've had outside NYC. The char was perfect. 3. High quality mozzarella and the perfect amount. 4. Really excellent sausage, not greasy and plenty of fennel. When I asked the waitress why it came out the same she said that's the way our oven cooks them (ummm okay?!?!). Then asked if our table can have a pizza spatula and she said they don't have them, but we could use our fork. What kind of pizza restaurant serves pizza without a serving utensil?? Delicious brick oven pizza, very flavorful and not overly expensive. This is about as close as it gets to the east coast pizzas I've had. Love it! There isn't a hip & modern pizzeria in the neighborhood, so it's a great addition to the local selection. Especially if you like Scooters Frozen Custard, which is steps away. Headline: nice look, amazing pizza and good service, what's up with the menu? Overall a mixed bag. Let's start with the good: I love the look of the place--nice bar setting, exposed brick, high ceilings, upstairs area as well, you get to see them cook the pizza in the brick oven in the back--and delicious pizza it is! Unfortunately, they were out of almost everything on the menu. It's a pretty simple menu to start: a few appetizers, salads, then pizzas and calzones. They were out of half the appetizers, so we couldn't get spinach and artichoke dip (doh!), and then at the end of the meal they had no more deserts left! We were told that all they had was cheesecake, then we had to be informed that they were even out of that! Again, the service and food was good, but not a perfect experience. Best pizza and more importantly best service around!! They have a great upstairs private room that comfortably fits 50 people or so. This room is fantastic for a private party that has great windows, a private bar, an area for buffet style food, and ability to plug in your own music! We had a holiday party here and everyone walked out so happy and pleased. The food was delicious- so many great pizza options! After many times of passing this place back and forth on Belmont and saying "oh that place, I have to go to that place", I finally went here yesterday on a Groupon (thank you Groupon sharing friend). The pros were certainly pros, good brick oven margarita pizza and a decent beer selection (you have little sumptin sumptin for me and I'm a happy gal). So typically if you have good beer and good pizza all is well in the world. Right? Well almost. Now I like kids, I really do. I smile at them at the store, will laugh with them on public, will wave at them if staring, will say hi if they say hi--I think you get the point. However at a restaurant that is clearly also a bar they should not be allowed to run crazy or to let out those ear piercing shrieks that kids often do. Granted I know the neighborhood is stroller central but still, make your kid sit down and use the manners they should be developing right about now. It creates a situation that's unpleasant for the people that don't have kids but then also creates an even worse situation because those non kid people are glaring the people who have kids hoping they make them behave. I found myself doing it and not even meaning to. So yeah, beware. I also wonder if the place is slightly short staffed. Our server was not only the bartender (we sat at the bar), but carryout gal, the server for the rest of the restaurant, and I think she was also bussing tables. Not really a big deal if there's one of two people in the place, but when there are maybe 2-3 families, a few other occupied tables, and 3-4 people at the bar, and you're having to get together carry out orders also; you can't provide the service you're expected to get if there was one or two more people around. When overworked and rushed the greetings start to lack, the attentiveness starts to drift, etc--not her fault, just an observation. I'm also sure the toddler she had to dodge in the middle of the restaurant while carrying glasses and beer didn't help either. My girlfriend and I stumbled in here last night, well not stumbled like physically, but you know... you get it. Anyhow, I have driven by this place countless times and always thought about it, but just never found the time. Glad I finally did! This really is a great little place with fantastic pizza! We ordered a margherita and another with sliced tomato, garlic, and capocollo... mmm mmm mmm! They also have a great beer list because well, beer and pizza are a match made in heaven as we all know. Service was not stellar, but our server was a bit overworked, so we understand. It appeared she was the only one working the floor and so she was running around quite madly. Other than that, when we arrived, the owner (I am guessing) greeted our table, which I appreciated. Hmmmmmm, any complaints? Maybe just one, but soooo minor, and only for the sake of argument. It appears to be more of a bar than a restaurant. Because of this, the beautiful brick oven gets lost as what could have been a really nice focal point.
