BEST THIN CRUST PIZZA I'VE HAD SINCE I WAS IN ITALY LAST YEAR. This place is seriously a gem. The ingredients are SUPER fresh and the crust is delightfully and perfectly crispy on the bottom since they use a brick oven. The Margherita pizza is to DIE for. Also had the Diavolo (spicy) pizza once, which was killer. I always start with their caesar salad - perfect ratio of greens:dressing and with great thin shaved fresh parm. All the salads are big, so if there are 2 of you, you could probably split one. I went again last night with some girlfriends, sat right by the window on a gorgeous night, and it was delightful. My ONLY complaint is that - while the servers/staff are EXTREMELY friendly and accommodating, the service is always a little slow / aloof / not super attentive, even when they're not busy, which is confusing to me. For instance, right after our food came last night, our bottle of wine and our waters were empty for literally 20 minutes, during which time I could not get our server's attention to save my life. So that was frustrating. I guess I'm just used to my water being refilled when it's low, or having a server come back and check on us periodically, or having them ask if you're ready for another drink when you're down to the last sip. I almost raised my hand like I was in class, but didn't want to be rude. We eventually busted out a water bottle from my girlfriend's purse and shared it, right after which point our waitress came over with a carafe of water, and then I felt like a big A-hole. But I was parched. That said, this place is awesome, and I will definitely always go back. Honestly, I would give 4 stars (5 for food, demerit for dried up beverages), but the food is so good, and I think the staff is warm and well-intended, so I'm keeping em at 5... and hoping for better luck next time. read more

A solid pizza place that won't disappoint. Used a Groupon to get $10 for $20. Above average micro-brew selection. Split a Calzone, Pizza, and garlic Twists with group. Good flavor to the crust on all three. All were cooked just right. Garlic Twists had good flavor. Just simply twisted bread with seasoning and oils. Can't see myself not getting these next time and they're cheap at $4. Calzone was my favorite part of the meal. It's enormous and easily feeds two. Cheese and ingredients were fresh and plentiful. Diavolo was a spicy pie. Hot sopressata was great and pepperoncinis, and onions added good flavor. it had a little more cheese than most brick oven, Neapolitanish pizzas, but it wasn't greasy or too much. read more

I've been here a couple of times and liked the pizza. This visit on an early Saturday night proved how little the owners care about service. A very young, unfriendly, disengaged hostess placed us in the back where there was a children's birthday party going on. When we asked if there was a TV screen in sight - it's got a sports bar feel - she said no and motored off. We eventually moved to the front of the restaurant where the waitress was nice but a little misinformed -saying that they don't have a non-alcoholic beer though I remember ordering one previously and it's on the drinks menu. We live in the neighborhood and come here often. We had atrocious service this time. The owner was rude, our order was wrong and it took forever. We saw several tables come in after us-they finished their meals before our pizzas hit the table. The owner did not apologize for anything. He gave us attitude with every request we had. Who knew asking for silverware at a restaurant was an inconvenient request. We will not be back. read more

Very limited wine list. We chose an Argentinian Malbec which was not good. The chef special pizza was adequate. Sadly the crust was soggy, the tomatoes looked anemic, and the pizza tasted only of the balsamic vinegar reduction that was dribbled across the pizza. Everyone was friendly. read more

We just left Pizzeria Serio, I write very few reviews but had to do this. I'm really pissed off right now. The pizza sucked. THEY CALL THEMSELVES A PIZZERIA? We ordered a small pizza with mushrooms, sausage and green pepper. An old commercial, asked where's the beef? Our pizza had small chips of mushrooms and green pepper. We counted 2 tiny pieces of sausage per slice. The crust was burned and the rest of it very mushy and doey. The server Michele completely ignored us, I believe she had 2 tables. The place was empty. The busboy was great, very efficient. He gave us water, salt, pepper, cheese, took away plates and cleaned the table...she did nothing. Chicago has so many great restaurants. Came here for lunch today and was a little disappointed in the pizza. We ordered the margherita, their special, and I counted four sad little pieces of basil on the pizza when it arrived. More basil, since basil is the key ingredient in a margherita pizza and all, would have been appropriate. read more

The pizza was really very good, but there are some other kinks that I'm sure they're working on...the service was a little slow, possibly because there was a tidal wave that left stroller-shaped debris. No really, it was like the mommy-n-me tour bus pulled up in front because in a matter of minutes this place went from a nice place for a glass of (BYO) wine to the ball pit at chuck-e-cheese. Now in all fairness, the fact that this place is good for all ages is not a bad thing if you're looking for a place to take your teenage daughter's soccer team, or your double wide stroller, but I would have enjoyed a little more quiet time with my salad. And while BYOB is awesome, if you're going to bring a bucket of ice to the table to keep my wine chilled, an actual wine bucket is in order. So while the hotel pan full of ice made me giggle at the time, it also condensated all over the table. If you live in Lakeview (...and even if you don't), you need to patronize this restaurant! Like other transplanted New Yorkers, this exile has FINALLY found a pizza joint in Chicago that does justice to the slice in New York style. Shoot, you can even watch the pizza dude TOSS the dough. I've never seen that done with deep dish or cracker crust! As for the service, it was friendly, courteous, and attentive without being either overbearing or neglectful. I did not experience some of the issues in other reviews. My only critical feedback for Serio is that they could stand to expand their apps offerings. The other is turn-down-the-volume-on-the-music! This is another venue with every hard finish they could find and then arranged them such that there are lots of sharp corners and angles. So conversation with your dining companions is difficult. Lots of shouting and leaning across the table. When I go out to dinner, I want to be able to make conversation. If I want loud music and shouting (neither of which is an aid to digestion), I'll go to a party. Besides wanting this local joint that eases my regular homesickness to be around for a while, we need more good restaurants in Lakeview, especially around the six corners area. (Have you seen what's happened to the blocks on Lincoln north of Belmont? It's tragic. And not that what's there is anything to write home about either.) And speaking of other eateries in the 'hood, I have to disagree respectfully & wholeheartedly with the reviewer who suggested that Frasca is better than Serio. First, regarding service, I've never gotten agreeable service there. It's always been characterized by long waits for a server to show up or check in throughout the meal and it has always come with lots of attitude. Should I be grateful that you've deigned to do what you're paid to do? As to the food, Frasca's pizzas are pretentious in that "gourmet" pizza kind of way. This means not only a different kind of crust and proportion of ingredients, but they're small & overpriced for what you get. Serio is serving true NY-style. So these restaurants, based on their food, are not comparable. Like apples and oranges. As any NYer will tell you, just because it's thin crust doesn't mean it's New York style. And doing a pie-cut doesn't make it so either (I've never understood the Midwest penchant for cutting round pizza into tiny squares. What's up with that??) I hope Serio soon lets you walk up and buy by the slice, slapped on a white paper plate for that fast eat-on-your-feet experience on the way to your next stop.... Uuh, homesick yet again. read more

We were pleasantly surprised to find Pizzeria Serio after a sort of falling out with our favorite pizza place. Serio's pizza is really good--I wouldn't call it New York style, but it's definitely not Chicago style. I'd say it's closer to Detroit style, if that's really a style. ;) Anyway, it's our kind of style, which is what counts. Everyone liked the goat cheese veggies appetizer, too (well, I didn't try it, but everyone else did). Would definitely order from Serio's again. Recommended for people who like their pizza on bread instead of on crackers. ;) read more

Pizzeria Serio is a hybrid of great NYC/Neapolitan pizza. The staff was great, friendly & not overbearing. Overall this spot is very accommodating to your every need. The average specialty pizza will run $18 and it's worth every penny. If your from the NYC tri-state area this is a little slice of home! read more

I've eaten there twice now. First time wasn't a huge fan but I chalk that up to being open for a week and still getting the kinks out. The second time was awesome. I am not a fan of Chicago style or crispy crust pizza. I like my pizza thin a chewy and Pizzeria Serio definitely delivers. I love how you can taste the herbs on the pizza. I can't wait to go back since they have the bar open and I only live two buildings down. Also, I walk by and they always advertise specials and they are pretty good deals. We had a Groupon and decided to give this place a try. The ambiance was nice, it had the typical downtown pizzeria feel to it. We were seated with out wait on Wednesday night around 6pm. We ordered a pair of the brick oven pizzas. One as their white pizza and the other as their "sausage & peppas". The white pizza was good, but I don't usually get a white pizza. The ingredients did seem fresh. The sausage pizza could've used a few more peppers and sausage. After eating the two pizzas, we regretted not getting an appitizer. We then decided to get a desert. We had the sinnasticks. The biggest sin was they tasted like soemthing from Dommino's. The dough was not sweetened at all. The little sugar that was on top with the cinnamon was not enough to make this a desert, in my opinion. Overall it was a good experience. If I went back I would probably just order the larger pizzas and be done. read more

We had the vegetarian pizza added basil, tomato and garlic. The Hubby is a vegetarian and doesn't like Pizza but he really loved it. I had the Lasagne and with a side of meatballs. Those meatballs are the best I have tasted. We also got the 3 appetizers. Goat cheese dip was my favorite. Calzones were my husbands favorite and neither one of us really liked the spinich artichoke dip. Service was great. We will be back for sure. read more

i just visited Pizza Serio last night on a friend's recommendation, and i was really impressed. the place wasn't too busy, but i'm guessing it was more due to the 6" of snow than anything else - cause their pizza is FANTASTIC. i love thin crust, and theirs is possibly the best i've had in chicago. it's not too crispy, more chewy, not greasy or heavy, with lots of air pockets and of course the lovely wood-fired flavor. great sauce, not too sweet (you can actually taste the spices). we had the diavolo and the big cheese and both combinations were spot on. i love the super thin sliced onions and the hot peppers on the diavolo, and the mixture of cheeses on the big cheese. we also had the artichoke dip for an appetizer, which was creamy and full of big pieces of artichokes and spinach - i would add a touch more garlic and parmesan but it was very good. the service was great too - our waitress kept the glasses full, and was attentive without hovering. not sure if it would be the same on a game day or saturday night, but i'll be back to check it out for sure. i wanna eat my way thru their menu! read more

A nice little surprise! Passed this place walking along Belmont and decided to give it a try. One of the owners seated us and recommended a pizza that turned out to be delicious. It's a cross between New York and Neapolitan...thin but chewy with a sweet red sauce. We also tried the garlic twists, which were buttery and well seasoned. While I probably did myself a disservice by not ordering a pizza, I still must say that I was very dissatisfied with my meal here. My g/f and I stopped by when we were in the area to just get a bite to eat. I got the Italian sub and she got the lasagna, and we both were fairly disappointed with what was put in front of us. The sub was hardly overflowing with meat or cheese, only came with a few pieces of lettuce, and if they actually put Italian dressing or whatever on I didn't get a hint of it. And seriously, would it be hard for them to offer onions or peppers on that?! I just assumed it'd come standard, guess not. The lasagna had no character to it at all. It is advertised as being meatless which worked well since my g/f is a vegetarian... unfortunately there wasn't anything else to it either. Noodles, sauce, and just a little cheese makes for very dull lasagna. I understand that they are a pizza place, but come on, how difficult is it to offer a few options/amenities for your other food options when you're charging $8 for a sub that is inferior to Subway and $9 for some very plain lasagna?! If you go here stick to the pizza, because I was not impressed by anything else. read more

We really like the food here and the beer selection is pretty good. We usually order one of the specialty pizzas and an appetizer and we always have food left over. The reason this place gets dinged a star is because most times we go here it feels like I'm at Chuckie Cheese. I mean kids everywhere, running around, screaming, eating, just lot's of children period. I think the environment draws younger families, which is fine if you are in the mood. Personally if we are doing a date night we usually look for somewhere a little less hectic. read more

Outstanding pizza and great service. We ordered three different pizzas and they all were amazing. Goat cheese appetizer and cinnamon sticks were out of this world as well. It is cozy in the back room by the brick oven. We had a great waitress who went out of her way to make sure we were happy. This is thin crust and the actual crust is amazing. There is an upstairs party room that has a great view - plan on using that soon for a larger group of folks. We will be ordering take out from here from now on. Just hope they come up with a gluten-free crust soon like Chicago Pizza has. Glad to have found this gem. read more

The pizza is awesome, ingredients are notably fresh all the time and beers at the perfect temp. Kidsmenu is very good and yummy. But they have a problem with the service; I go with my family every other week and by chance we always have the same server (a blond waitress), she is very unattentive, long face, unpolite and unprofessional. The BEST employee this place has is Giovany, always on top of things, very attentive, polite and fast! The owners should give this man more oportunity to develop as a server and as an employee! I recently went because I purchased a Groupon. The host and the waitress were lovely. The male bartender (possibly the owner), was very helpful, knowledgable and friendly. Anyhow, the wine and beer were good and reasonably priced. The food was only ok. We got a half (Eat your meat?) and half (Spinach). The toppings were good and fresh, but not enough cheese or sauce on the meat half. read more
