I read a lot of deep dish reviews before going here and I wish I hadn't. My expectations were low and there seemed to be a lot of negative opinion about it. I enjoyed the pizza here and I think it was the best deep dish I had in Chicago. The price was reasonable, the server was friendly, and the pizza was good. I'm not sure what more anyone could want. The restaurant was nice and has some great decorations including a photo of Al Capone. I'd highly recommend. read more

Came here for my grand baby. Their house burned down and this was their first meal!! it cost over $130?? All i ordered was wings, 2 small cheese pizza, 1 deep dish, and a salad. I am rating this two stars instead of one because the food was technically edible. This is the worst pizza experience I've had in my life. I ordered ahead for pick up. They said it would be ready by X time. When I arrived a few minutes early they said it would be ten minutes. No big deal, it would only put me five minutes past when they said it would be ready. Fast forward those ten minutes, and they tell me "a few more minutes." That ended up with the pizza being a total of 15 minutes late. Again, not a huge deal. I finally get the pizza and go back to the hotel to share it with my family. We have one gluten free pizza which is completely fine. We have another deep dish which is the worst pizza I've ever had. The pizza was not even cut. They provided no utensils. If it was thin crust, not a problem. I would just rip it apart into pieces and eat it. But because it is deep dish we are literally trying to tear up a huge thick pizza with tons of sauce with our hands. It does not work very well at all. What's worse, the crust has the consistency of chunky cardboard, so it is very cumbersome to take apart. I hate leaving bad reviews. I have had good experiences with this place in the past. Although this restaurant was right next door to our hotel, we didn't end up making it here until the last day of our trip. Very glad we could try some authentic deep dish before we had to head out of town! Our server Lucy was the best and although she was taking care of a large party next to us, she made us feel very well attended to. We shared the wings and the personal size four cheese pesto pizza. The crust reminded me of a pot pie, flaky, buttery and delicious. We weren't super hungry before we got here, but it was definitely enough food along with the beer that we were full. No reservations! But they were able to seat our party of 7 immediately at 445pm on a Saturday. It took about 15 minutes for our first waitress to come by for drink orders. We let her know up front that the checks would be split due to this being a work dinner and we had to submit receipts. She immediately had an attitude. We tried to place drink orders but one person paused a minute to decide and she got frustrated saying "I'll just come back". I said no, wait, but she pretended she didn't hear me and walked away. Another ten minutes later and we got a whole new waitress who had asked us if we had put in our pizza order because they take 30 minutes to cook. We explained we hadn't even gotten that far, no waters, no drinks, no orders placed. The new waitress was friendlier and tried to recover- we placed apps, drinks, pizza all at the same time. We got the cheesy garlic bread, boneless wings, calamari, and meatballs. Everything was pretty good. It was nothing special but it came out quickly, was hot. We got the pizza Uno. It was huge and cheesy. There's controversy over deep dish pizza but I will say this. Pizzeria Uno makes good pies. It's more like a pie stuffed with pizza toppings. Finally got home and opened up that cardboard square or should I say Pandora's box. What I found was green peppers, onions, and moist pepperoni thrown on a circular crust. My friend and I were looking for a relatively late-night meal (a little past 9PM) in the Streeterville / River North area and after being turned away by a number of places due to missing their last seating time at 9PM, we happened to wander by Pizzeria Uno - which was still open and had no wait time (unlike neighboring Lou Malnati's which had a 45 minute wait...). I'm so glad we found this place because the deep-dish pizza that we ordered (a small Numero Uno) was fantastic - it wasn't too heavy like my experiences with other deep dish pizza in the city, and the ingredients in the pizza tasted fresh and flavorful. The crust was buttery and crispy and the sauce wasn't overly salty like other pizza places. The portion size was perfect - not too much where we couldn't finish, but still filling (the small size features 4 slices total, perfect for 2 per person). The service was great and the restaurant had a nice vintage, classic Chicago vibe - I had no idea this place was where deep dish was born! We all have our "I would give it 0 stars if I could" stories. This is mine. My sister had never had a Chicago-style, deep dish pizza before so we had make time in our itinerary for this visit. I was fine with this almost-last-minute add but cautioned that we were cutting it close for dinner, where we would most likely have the tasting menu. When this restaurant is packed, you place your order at the door so that your pizza bakes (45 minutes) while you wait, and are seated when a table frees up. This is a fine system although it seemed a bit sketchy, at first, because the hostess seemed so uncertain about the process. As well, tables would turn more quickly if they are actually cleared when guests leave. Very simple. That was not the case, so we, along with others, were packed together in the small shack-like reception area. When we were finally seated, somehow, another hostess thought it was fine to seat us by the server stand/beverage area. I asked for the table by the window but was told that it had not been set up and insisted that we had to sit at this particular table. Surprisingly, another couple was seated at the same table soon after us even though nothing had changed at the table. I watched with an eagle eye. I have to wonder why that was the case and why my request was denied, given that we were there first. I ordered the Special Salad Bowl, an Italian salad that is topped with 4 bite-sized slices of salami and 4 bite-sized slices of cheese. The salad also included giardiniera; red onions seemed to dominate the bowl. Good thing I was anticipating a large dinner, elsewhere. Tried this place for some deep dish pizza while visiting Chicago and was really happy we came here! Got their bbq chicken and veg pizza and both of them were great. Knowing the deep dish style is pretty heavy, we got 2 mediums for a group of 5 people and we had leftovers. Also ordered their cookie with ice cream and it was really yum. Also when we arrived at this place, We had to wait for around 25-30 mins and needed to place our pizza order before getting added to the waitlist. This is a nice and historic place, but very crowded. You cannot book the table by phone, however, the wait on Friday afternoon is about 25-30 minutes. You can do the preorder with your table, but I'd doesn't really matter, as your pizza won't be ready earlier. Also, we didn't get a water, and our drinks were waiting for us at the bar for 10-15 minutes. So because of a lot of visitors, waiters couldn't provide a good service. We were told several times that the pizza would take 40 minutes so encouraged to order an appetizer. We ordered the calamari (it was ok, bit rubbery) thinking we had a wait before us.... Yeah, the pizza arrived less than 20 minutes after we ordered and while still eating the calamari. We felt slightly conned into ordering an appetizer. Anyway, the pizza - we got the small which was enough for 2 of us (especially after the calamari!!) and the Uno. It was very tasty. Seems like 4.3 might be a little low, huh? Let's try it! Despite what you might infer from my review for the BBQ nachos at The Smoking Pig in Greeneville, TN, I am not a glutton...(I just looked up the meaning of that word and I remain adamant - it is not a habit.), so I opted for the individual sausage pizza. At $12 and change (yeah, those Yelp! menu photos are old), you might expect something larger than a Moon Pie (non-Southerners, Google it). Size, aside, the sausage was sparse, offering only 1 bite, near the tip of the slice...and just the tip. Sadly, the crust was flavorless. The sauce was tasty. I visited this location for the 1st time, yesterday evening. Nice environment, the restaurant was clean and the hostess was welcoming! I sat at the bar. The bartender immediately greeted me and gave me a menu. I asked about sizes, he gave me feedback and told me the turn around times. I ordered a Small Deep Dish with Spinach & Turkey Sausage (I believe it was Turkey). It WAS worth the wait! It was soooo delicious! The bartender gave me HALF, he stated he's keep the other half warm until I am ready for it. NEVER have I been to a pizzeria and they've suggested that! I ended up taking the other half to-go. After the pizza arrived, we noticed that the onions, dough, and pepperoni were still wet and undercooked. Some people like it like that, but we don't. Wow-I was highly disappointed yesterday after ordering the Chef's Deep Dish Pizza-which tasted bland and the veggies were not cooked-it appeared maybe they just threw them in at the last minute? I just think it's wildly overrated. Took friends from out out of town who were staying at Navy Pier. It was close, it's famous may as well pick them. You can't make a reservation. Which isn't a red flag. But when you arrive you order and wait outside. It wasn't raining or 12 degrees, but I can see this system beinga deal breaker.
