Time to show PJ's in Lawrenceville some love! Fun fact, this building used to be a Howard Johnson's back in the 1970's. Everything me and my have had here has been excellent, from the potato (Puerca is a fave) and buttermilk (banana coconut rum!) pancakes, to the skillets (Shashuka), it's always consistently fresh, hot, and the right balance of flavor. Servers are fast. friendly and appropriately attentive. Expect to pay about $25/person, but well worth it. Legit pancake house! My friends and I came here and we each ordered some version of pancakes. My friend got the Cinnamon swirl, my other friend the pancakes with two eggs, sausage and bacon, and me the stuffed pancakes with bacon, feta, guacamole and eggs. I was a bit unsure what a stuffed pancakes would be -- it's more like a roll or a taco. Super solid! Our server was attentive. An outlier among the PJ's breakfast cult which features excruciating wait times, cramped accomodations and dinner pricing at breakfast. PJ's has now been in the old HoJo's and Michael's Diner location for a few years and the place just feels far more relaxed then the flash mob rallying point on Nassau Street and elsewhere within the tentacles of Princeton. Pancakes are their thing and they're perfectly fine... just not the out of body experience the price would suggest -- although not having to wait for a table is definitely worth somewhat of a premium (at least to me.) In this day and age it's just hard to swallow a bill significantly inflated beyond the average roadside diner for similar fare. But that's just my three star self talking. read more

Lunchtime meetup at PJ's Pancake House does the job. Need a halfway point with a friend between Philly and NY? Need a laid-back middle-of-the-day reliable menu? This is your place. It has a diner vibe but spacious and plenty of booths -- always a plus. The scrambled eggs & bacon do not disappoint, but the upgrade from buttermilk pancakes to French toast was definitely the right choice here. I tried to do a take out order on Mother Day's an they said they were not doing take out for the day so my daughter goes up there sits at the counter an orders food an they still would not let her do take out after she ate there. I am done with this place I like their pancakes but their additude an their weirdness have drove me away. The one in Ewing closed with no explanation the lawrence location offers liquor now but closes at 3;00 I guess wine goes good with eggs. They get very little business so to turn away customers seems strange . So I ordered from the Ewing diner an they were very busy as well but welcomed the business. read more

While the food was good, I felt it was a bit pricey ($75 for 3 people for BREAKFAST). Clean, fairly quiet, easy access from hotel and highway. I would eat here again, but might be more cost conscious in my selections. read more

The new menu looks better but FAR from good. We were just served one of the worst soggy meals. It takes talent to screwup fried foods but they did just that. Hot but not cooked fries that you can tie in knots and fish right from the box. Staff did not come back to check on the table. read more

Extremely expensive nothing for a cheap brunch the cheapest thing I could find is a $9 cup of soup! Stick to the local diners if you want more options for half the cost of their whole menu. As well if you want to spend $20 on their fat sandwich don't the steak is over cooked and it's half the size of any you can get from your local pizza place. Visiting family and came to this restaurant for Father's Day. Food was delish! I always love a traditional American breakfast and this is your typical all American breakfast place! I do have a gluten sensitivity so I appreciated the gluten free options. They also have cute different food options on the menu like their chai pistachio pancakes which I had to try-Amazing and different! Staff were super friendly and accommodating. Not sure what happened in the reviews but we had a great time. Best diner I've been to. I had a ham and cheese crepe with sunny side up eggs, my husband had a pastrami ruban sandwich, and my son had the kids mac n cheese. The Mac n cheese in particular was very well made, delicious. We had the pancake sampler for desert. The s'mores pancake, bananas foster, and chocolate peanut butter. Bananas foster and peanut butter were the best. All were delicious though. The new location in Lawrenceville is clean, very large, lots of parking. The staff are friendly. My husband got the pancake trio (pumpkin/coconut rum and cookies/cream) they were all delicious and I'm not the biggest pancake fan. I got the cheeseburger mac and cheese, it needed salt. Flavoring but was good. They are very overpriced. As others have said. I think $15 for a child's meal (some small pancakes and a milk and $8 for a small strawberry shake ) is just wow. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there based off prices but would go again if others were going. read more

Maybe I am behind the times, but when I pay $25 for breakfast of plain french toast sitting solo at the bar counter, I better be totally amazed by the quality of the meal, or I may conclude that I have just been ripped off. Regrettably, that is my state of mind after departing PJ's Pancake House on Route 1 Southbound in Lawrenceville, NJ. PJ's is a well known institution in these parts, with humble beginnings on Nassau Street, Princeton, now expanded to six locations throughout Mercer County that are all variations on a theme - a cross between log cabin ersatz rustic and New Jersey diner. In this case it sits in the former Michael's, a real diner back in the day; so the description is well earned. As a solo customer, I took a stool at the end of the counter where I had a good view of the proceedings. Service at the bar was erratic. The menu and coffee came fairly quickly, but the wait for delivery of meal took a while and the refill of coffee seemed even longer, as I had to wave my empty mug at the servers far at the entry to the bar to get their attention and assistance. Not their fault, as it appeared obvious that no one had been specifically assigned to cover the dozen or so people sitting there. Not a warm and fuzzy to be an afterthought. The meal itself was average diner quality. Three slices dipped in a decent egg, vanilla, cinnamon slurry and steel fried with sufficient caramelization, with DIY butter and syrup containers. A bit of waste as there was more of both than I could use. Same with the milk for my coffee. I was pleased they had milk as an option to those mini moos, but the glass was full of cow juice, and I only need about one third that amount. Aside from the overly rigid crust of the fried bread which required a knife to cut, the taste was fine and definitely filling. Maybe the above description justifies the price for this simple meal. But, $2.95 for a mugga joe, and $12.95 for three slices of egged bread, plus tax and tip crossing the $25 barrier, is a bit of a shock to the senses. To my pallet, it wasn't worthwhile when there is so much better around for far less expense. The joint was crowded this morning, so they must be doing something right, but as a regular breakfast customer in the area, I realize that without standout quality, it just isn't worth the price of admission. read more

It was okay. I had eggs Benedict and it was 'ehhh' but nothing hugely amazing. Wish it had been served hot, came out a touch past fresh. Nice to see they offer gluten free options. Food was tasty. Had the eggs and pancakes special. Eggs were over easy as requested and expertly prepared. The buttermilk pancakes were delicious. My companion had the Mexican shushuka. Of course I sampled her dish. It was also quite delicious. The chorizo was finely prepped (not chunky). Service was fine and the atmosphere was great ...granted, it's a brand new establishment. So those were the good things. Where this establishment failed...The prices were way too high. They were on par with San Francisco costs. Probably 30% higher than they should be based on local comps for a similar dining experience. Also, for a true pancake establishment, have the maple syrup on the table. It was provided in a small container to limit the amount you use. I'm sure I would have been charged for extra. If you go ala cart on the pancakes, you have to pay $3.00 for syrup. C'mon man! This is Jersey! One refreshing change from my recent Bay Area experience, for which I am drawing some comparisons, is no extra service charge beyond tax and tip. read more

A lifelong PJ's fan, I took a friend to the Lawrenceville location for breakfast and couldn't believe that for two people, breakfast plus tip cost around $70. Pretty surprised, I double checked and everything added up -- just about 1/3rd more than I expected the bill to be. We'd been to that location as a family a few times before that, and each time we went, the bill kept going up. A shame, i Just don't think breakfast should cost that much. read more

I stop by to grab a quick ham and mushroom omelette the place was packed. This was on a Saturday so I go in I'm like I maybe I'll do take out take it to the park. I look at the menu it's 2295 for a cheese omelette I'm thinking to myself by the time I had a coffee I'm like north of $25 for an egg omelette and a cup of coffee. No thanks. I actually just went to the store and bought a dozen eggs for 350 and made my own damn omelette. Prices have gone haywire in this restaurant.
