I went to pl8 for dinner with my husband last night and was blown away by the amazing food and atmosphere. Our server was great and the food was by far the best asian cuisine I have ever eaten. The hand grenades we to die for. This is a "must go" place to eat. It was totally worth the hour plus drive from Naperville. We will be back and hopefully soon. read more

Wow this place has gone downhill. Waited 10 minutes for a drink while bartender was visiting with someone. Potstickers were chewy and cold. Entree of rolls took 20 minutes, table was sticky and bathroom was dirty. Seemed like no adult management. So our complaints went on deaf ears. Definitely not like it use to be. read more

I went for lunch by myself awhile ago and had a great experience. I had hibiscus tea to drink and went right for the sushi for lunch. Crunchy lobster roll and a volcano roll. The volcano roll has honey mustard drizzle on it, which is incredibly unique and delicious. I wish I could go there more often. Pat was my server, and he was incredibly nice. Comp'ed my drink and gave me a big box of almond cookies after my meal. Atmosphere was nice, too. Very hip and modern, but no obnoxious music. Very nice place, I will be going back. read more

Grandma & grandpa with our grandchildren, ages 16,13,10 went for dinner and had a GREAT experience. Adults and kids alike can find flavorful, good food. I was so happy to find a cute date spot that serves good food too! Pl8 is really reasonably priced, has a lot of menu offerings, and good sized portions. The dining room isn't big - so remember to make a reservation on weekends. They have a cute little sunken bar area that is helpful for grabbing a drink if there is a wait. The servers are knowledgeable and friendly. We had a bunch of plates and shared them - the crab rangoon chop sticks were great! Haven't been here in a long time. I was quickly reminded as to why after seeing the dirty bathrooms and the food. The drinks were good and the veggie spring rolls were as well. After that, it all went down hill rather quickly. I ordered Mongolian Chicken with brown rice. The sauce was good and the veggies were crisp, but the rice was terrible. You could tell it was left over and microwaved, it it was a 100% microwave product. Dry and hard. The chicken from the Mongolian Chicken was dried out and tasted three days old. I could tell it was heated up and thrown in after the fact, as the temperature was not the same as the vegetables. My wife's General Tso's was equally disappointing and tasted old and warmed up. You can tell when the chicken is previously fried and re-warmed. The breading is not crispy, rather mushy. I will say the server was apologetic and removed the food from the bill. However, you would have expected at least a visit from the chef. Especially when it was as slow as it was. read more

This was the second time I was here. It's just OK. Nothing to rave about. We had edamame, really can't screw that up and the Calamari Two Ways which we chose to have one way, wok seared. The calamari was fine, but EXTREMELY salty!! Wow, there's a heavy hand in the kitchen with the salt!! My friend had the spicy sushi platter and I had a sashimi assortment. Again, nothing to rave about, just ok. The prices are on the high side considering the food is average. I had a small bottle of San Pellegrino which they charged me $4....now that's a bit ridiculous, don't ya think? I think I'll save my sushi outings for when I'm downtown. So disappointed in this restaurant. The service was horrible - the waiter was so not interested in serving us, but the bus boys were so excited to clear our plates they kept reaching in and grabbing plates that we were still eating from. The food is AVERAGE at best; even the waiter kept pointing out that the menu was changing the next day and getting rid of the dishes that were not good....; Beef was chewy, seasoning underwhelming on everything. Best dish of the night was the green beans appetizer. Again, so disappointed....Barrington could really use a top notch restaurant so I don't have to drive to the city every time I want to eat out, but this isn't it. read more

Certainly one of the nicest restaurants we've been to out here in Barrington. The food is prepared beautifully. The service is exemplary and the waiters are knowledgeable and helpful. We never have a problem getting seated if we have reservations on weekends. The food is so good that there is often a line to get in so I would advise reservations on Friday and Saturday. We were looking for something new, something different, but at the same time hoping for fun and delish. This place delivered on all fronts. Restaurant was packed tonight, so we opted to eat dinner at the bar. Great fun. We got a bottle of white, potstickers and started perusing the menu. Got way too much and now have seem to be set for the weekend's dining, everything was absolutely delicious. Service was attentive, but not annoying. Perfection. We WILL be back very soon. We went for the first time this past Friday and had a great experience. Excellent service, great food in a cool atmosphere not typical for the NW burbs. It is obvious to me the owners are paying attention to past negative reviews and adjusting accordingly. We found portions were large at a very reasonable price. Dragon noodles were plentiful and delicious with large shrimp. Well spiced too, not dumbed down. The wine, beer and sake lists were small but diverse and interesting, telling me the owners care about the overall experience. Unlike so many suburban Asian restaurants that put the usual grocery store stuff on their lists. Chong Ching soup was enough for 4 people. Very different and interesting dish. We real can't say enough good things about our first experience and can't wait to go back to try more dishes. read more

We held a private fundraising event on the patio. First the service was excellent. They were set up and ready to go when we arrived. They were extremely helpful with accomodating our last minute changes and serviced our guests well throughout the dinner. It was a beautiful night and the setting could not have been better. The food was excellent. We had so many compliments on how delicious the food was and how full they were. We did a family style service and had more than enough food to go around. We chose to host the event at PL8 because we enjoy the atmosphere, service and food ourselves. It is one of our regular places to meet and dine. Creative dishes and drinks that are always fun and delicious. We also find the prices reasonable. Overall a great evening with our private party and many great dinners there on our own. read more

2 high school girls working the hostess stand clearly did not know what they were doing. They were seating late reservations before us who had been there on time for our reservation. When asked about our table, all they could say was "we will seat you as soon as possible." We were seated 35min after our reservation time and after numerous walk-ins were seated. Management however was great and very accommodating. They gave us a discount on our bill which was not necessary but appreciated after our wait. Our waitress was very friendly and provided amazing service, she turned our night around. read more

People at my work asked me what I though of this place since I was the first one to order from here. So here it goes. Sum it up: paid $89 and got $30 quality food. Based on all the reviews I read here, as Asian, I was excited to place an order for family diner. I ordered at 3pm. This might be a reason why I didn't have good quality food. I ordered fried rice, it didn't have much flavor and it could have used some salt to make not so bland. Ordered sesame shrimp, it was good. Asparagus with mushroom was bland. Thai flavor shrimp, was good. Mongolian beef was way too sweet. These comes with white rice, that was WAY TOO DRY. As Korean, I wasn't comparing to my standard, but it was like left out dry from morning and reheated. Chicken dumpling soup was bland. Hot and sour soup was ok. So, with really dry white rice, bland food, some good ones,and quality not equal to price I paid. My final verdict is.... I should have not ordered it from here. Maybe because I ordered between lunch and diner service that they had to use left over from lunch. Regardless, if quality of food does not meet your restaurant standards, it shouldn't have served. read more

When we walked in, we were greeted by a lady who shared the history of the restaraunt and chefs. She was a pleasant way to begin the perfect meal. Our waitress explained, in detail, the specials and how all the food was prepared. Friendly, knowledgable, and delightful. She shared her favorites and the hottest sellers, as this was our first time. When she told us the food was stand alone, she wasn't bragging, she was just telling the truth. From the appetizer, (Shark Tooth) to our basil shrimp dish, to the molten chocolate desert, all was perfect. Cannot wait to go back and try something else from their huge variety of dishes. I was looking for a Thai restaurant near Deer Park. Yelp's search brought me to PL8. I ordered the vegetable pad thai. It wasn't anything spectacular. The veggies were pretty good and crunchy. My friend ordered the Kung Pao chicken which was good and flavorful. I should have ordered that. We ordered the crab Rangoon sticks. I'd recommend skipping that. They aren't great. I prefer the "traditional" kind which they do not offer. We did have the vegetable spring rolls which were good. Overall, for a "last minute" Asian fusion place it wasn't bad. The prices are reasonable for sure. I think I'd rather make the effort next time to go out of my way to my favorite Thai places though if I'm really craving good pad thai. read more

DELICIOUS and so accommodating. We recently moved to the area and ordered in for the first time. I customized one of the dishes and when my husband brought the food home the dish was different than what I had ordered (but still delicious). I called and spoke with the manager who was wonderful. Not only did he remake the customized dish (perfectly this time), but he also sent a couple other dinner dishes for us to try. He turned a disappointing experience into a better than expected experience. This will definitely be our new go to place for Asian food. read more

I was generous with the 2 stars. I ordered food for 10 people. The pad thai was mostly noodles with little sauce, it was a waste of money. They forgot an entrée and I had to drive back for it. When I got there they still hadn't cooked. I told them that my family would be done eating by the time I get home with the dish. I would have expected the manager to apologize for the miss, but no. They had the audacity to say I didn't have to pay for again it because I already did. To add to insult, they said they gave me extra fortune cookies and white rice to the dish. I didn't want fortune cookies or rice. If I wanted that, I would have ordered it. I wanted my food!!! Poor customer service, food not worth the money. There are plenty of Asian restaurants for less in the area. read more

This is a GREAT Asian restaurant compared to so many others in the area. Everything is fresh and delicious from appetizers like pot stickers, crab rangoon and stuffed mushrooms to sushi, teriyaki, tempura and fried rice. They have good specials too. We eat here regularly it's that good. Their 2 top servers/bartenders are Patrick and Austin-both guys are extremely friendly, attentive and add fun to the wonderful dining experience. read more

Kung Pao which was pretty good, Pad Thai which was all noodles and nothing else including flavor, sushi which was fresh and nice and Spicy Chili Fish which was excellent. Second visit to Pl8 this week with friends and family. We enjoyed several of the appetizers plus the fabulous spider roll. Sat outside in pleasant surroundings. Service was fine. Outrageously overpriced cocktails. A smallish ordinary non-premium vodka martini was $11. Easily found at other fine Barrington area restaurants for much less, and a more generous size. Go for the food, but if you order adult beverages, be prepared for sticker shock. read more

A fun restaurant...and happen to love the name. Think it is a bit pricey, however, it is really good food. The Basil Chicken is delicious and the sushi/sashimi is fresh.
