    Oh the ham....!!!!

Our last meal.... The trip to Barcelona had come to an end and with it brought the pressure for a "last night" dinner. We settled on Pla after reading some online reviews. Our walk took us into the heart of the Gothic quarter, meandering around twisted and cozy streets until coming to Pla. It's a mid-block location with unassuming entrance - but the proper tapas memory awaits. We were seated in the lower level of this hobbit-hole of a spot- archways, open faced stair tower, whimsy on the walls and the gift of an attentive owner of twenty plu years waiting on our table. We were patiently coached through some great wine selections and some museum quality tapas from a talented kitchen. We enjoyed a broad array of tapas and felt the love of the owner in every bite. Stop in, take it in, make a Barcelona memory. Pla was a terrific last meal in the City.

We went to pla for our honeymoon and it was the super delicious meal. We ordered smoke mackerel which was my absolute favorite way of eating mackerel, super flavorful for appetizers!! My husband had beef cheeks, super tender and juicy. I had tuna that was super delicate and had a super flavorful broth. Dessert was deconstructed (chocolate) taste of different textures and a vanilla crema with flamed bananas. Atmosphere: really homey and no stress environment where you and others can really talk and enjoy the food. Totally recommend making reservations and the food is creative and flavorful! Price: decently priced.

This is in the Gothic Quarter in one of the many little alleys and it is so cute. It is a small space inside. It is best accessed walking. We went for dinner and they were open late, which was perfect for our jetlagged-selves. We had the croquettes, which were my favorite. They also had a baked lamb with a salad and pear slices. We also had the chickpea hummus which felt both healthy and tasted great. All amazing. I had a sangria, super sweet. It felt more like a dessert drink. If you have a sweet tooth, this is perfect for an after dinner drink. I would definitely come back to try more of their menu!

Where do I even describing our phenomenal dining experience at Pla? We had a little trouble finding this gem since it's located on a small street as so many restaurants are in the Gothic quarter here. It was absolutely worth the effort when we entered the restaurant on our last night in Barcelona! We were fortunate enough to get a table without a reservation on a Monday night. We had no problem enjoying the view from the bar before sitting down at the table! My boyfriend definitely picked a winner for our last dinner! AMBIENCE: charming, cozy, romantic, rustic and modern! All the elements for an excellent dinner with significant other or a group of friends! There is a second dining level that provides additional tables. We sat front and center on the main level with a view of the bar, the projection wall and the entrance of the restaurant. We were intrigued by all the amazing photos projected on the wall...it's a dinner and a show! I loved the small table lamp that provided just the right amount of lighting. FOOD: wow, our 6-course meal was a culinary triumph! The menu was carefully curated to reflect the regional cuisine with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients. Our waiter informed us that they're in transitioning from the summer menu to the fall menu. The complimentary broccoli soup was very light and tasty - a perfect way to start off a meal. We ordered the 3D broccoli carpaccio, which was a work of art. I never knew you could shave the broccoli into slices that thin! We then proceeded to the main course - aubergine with tofu crumble and lightly seared Iberian pork tenderloin. My boyfriend said the pork tenderloin was the best he's had and he raved about how tender it was since it was barely cooked. My aubergine entree was good but I thought the tofu was the main star given how the waiter described it. But all the roasted veggies and droplets of sauces on the plate were superb! For dessert, we had the special with fresh figs, creme, chocolate cake. It was pure heaven! The complimentary desserts (mango drink and dark chocolate balls) were equally delicious! Service: we waited for a while before our waiter finally came to our table but we didn't mind it at all. The waiter was very patient and explained the menu in details. The staff actually sit down on a stool next to your table to explain the menu and answer all your questions before you order - what a refreshing change compared to the service in the US. Overall, we ate like a king at Pla! There was no doubt that this was the best meal I've had hands down! I appreciated the fact that the portions are adequate and satisfying without leaving you stuffed! The chef has for sure mastered the art of fine dining!

In travelings to Barcelona, a place which is now the place of the "world's best restaurant", one's culinary expectations are definitely at a high pitch. And, largely, those expectations are met---from the casual elegance and quality of neighborhood tapas to more formal dining, Barcelona delivers. Pla should be a shining star in that firmament---dining here is a delight, a pleasure, an astonishment. The chef is an alumni of Adrian Ferrer's El Bulli kitchen---and that pedigree shows in the dishes delivered to the table. Sous-vide, molecular gastronomy, A charming interior, friendly and superb service--- This is an experience that remains a highlight of a week in Barcelona and a reason for a quick return. Do note, it's in an area of the Area Gotic that cars are not allowed into---so you will be walking at least 2 blocks from the taxi stand in front of the "City Hall"... Reservations are a must---and oddly, for such a high-end restaurant, they were able to accomodate (or really, there was delicious food that the kids didn't think of as being "adult") two well behaved children, ages 6 and 9... Not excepting our dinner with kids, as a dinner for two, this would be a knockout.

Really awesome atmosphere.. a little bit more intimate though! Would make a great date place. The food was very flavorful and reasonably priced. 100% recommend the sangria (pictured), it was delicious!!

Very tasty. Great service. English, Catalan and Spanish speaking. Located in the Gothic Quarter in Barcelona; this restaurant opened in 1998 (according to their website). This restaurant has a very warm, intimate atmosphere. Honestly, it was difficult to find this place and I can't think of any landmarks, BUT I have attached a copy of the map on the back of their business card, so see the pictures section. The food pictures speak for themselves. It's a little pricey...the four of us pigged out and spent about 30-35 Euro a person with wine; we recommend the Cinclus 08 (white wine); especially if you're planning on eating seafood. Their menu has a nice variety of meats with some vegetables, charcuterie and desserts. Very fresh and flavorful. Not many pure vegetarian options, just so you know. Tip: They get all their fresh fish from the Boquerria market, so if you are craving fish, do not go on a Monday because the market is closed and they will not have their Fish of the Day. Also, Pla is only open for dinner! Reservations recommended.

My Greek salad was very authentic and was as good as any salad I had while I lived in Greece. Very fresh vegetables, great Feta and seasoned to perfection. The shrimp scampi under the Tapas menu with garlic was equally good and oh so tasty. The smallish inside restaurant is best described as rustic and a tad warm. Instead I opted for the outside dining area, which has just a few tables but offered a very pleasant ambiance in the small side street this business is located on with low foot traffic and a very nice breeze on the warm day I dined here. The relaxed dining on the outside is definitely the way to go here especially during the summer months. From a negative standpoint, certain aspects of the service were too slow. I was seated pretty quickly upon arrival but I waited a tad bit too long to get my order in. Once ordered though, the food came pretty quickly on a positive note. However, for all intents and purposes the service stopped at that point where I had no follow up and literally had to walk inside the business to get my bill. Overall, the dining experience was still great for me slow service aside as the quality of the food and outdoor ambiance far outweighed the negatives. I would say if you are in a bit of there rush you may want to look elsewhere. However, if you are looking for a relaxing dining experience with great food than this business will be definitely fit the bill!

Ziryab seemed to fit the bill, so we made plans to stop here during our first night in the city. Ziryab is located close to the Gothic Quarter, on side street. It's kind of inconspicuous from the outside, but the interior gives way to a really welcoming space. The restaurant is separated into two main areas, with an earth-tone color scheme that has a rustic, almost cave-like aesthetic. The high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows keep the dining room open and spacious. The tapas menu had a good selection, and we decided on several items: pan con tomate, sweet potato rolls, chicken cannelloni, bacon-wrapped figs, croquettes, falafel, and a charcuterie board. All the tapas were great - my favorites were the chicken cannelloni, pan con tomate, and the charcuterie board. The cannelloni especially was a standout - definitely a unique dish, and the chicken was super flavorful. We opted for dessert, and got the feta whip cheesecake - this was great as well. The combination of tang and sweet was a good finisher to our meal. Service was great - everyone was friendly and our dishes were served at a good pace. Overall, I'm glad I tried out Ziryab - the tapas were delicious and atypical of ones you find elsewhere in Barcelona. I would have no qualms returning here for another meal.

I had no idea how huge and elegant the restaurant was until I went inside to use the bathroom before leaving. We were there just after 7 pm so it wasn't as busy as I imagine it will get later, because in Barcelona, people don't have dinner until 9 or 10 PM. We ordered fresh salmon with dill, coroquetas de jamón iberico, a cod fritter, and chicken cannelloni with foie gras and black truffle sauce. We also ordered the pan with tomate, of course to soak up the truffle sauce. The cannelloni was amazing! I mean it melted in your mouth amazing!! After our snacks... We ordered dessert. We ordered their homemade Belgian chocolate ice cream, which is hands-down, the best chocolate ice cream I've ever eaten. And we also ordered their version of a crème brûlée called crema Catalonya! Both desserts were amazing, however, I highly recommend the Belgian chocolate ice cream. Overall, the experience was amazing and I hope to pop in again before we leave. Enjoy!

Both my son and I are very picky about Lebanese food having been spoiled by the excellent Lebanese in our home town Los Angeles, so we ordered with trepidation. It's done so right, juicy tangy, bursting with flavors and the pita in the salad is made into a curly flower and gives a delicious crunch. We liked the dish of garbanzo and yogurt a bit less, as it was quite heavy and lacked flavor. My son was very pleased with shish tavouk with chicken, and I loved my halloumi dish.
