The food was okay. However, we made a reservation because we were expecting to sit by the river sushi boat experience, but that wasn't the case. When we arrived, we were told that the sushi boat seating is first come, first served, despite having a reservation. We were actually there when the restaurant opened, but by the time we would have been able to sit at the sushi boat, the wait would have been another 1-2 hours. It was disappointing that this wasn't made clear when we made our reservation. read more

Beautiful restaurant, but unfortunately that's about the only positive thing I can say about our experience. The service was an absolute disaster from start to finish and completely overshadowed what could have been an enjoyable meal. We were greeted promptly and ordered drinks right away, but then waited nearly 30 minutes before our server returned to take our food order. Although the drinks appeared to be prepared quickly, they sat at the service bar for approximately 15 minutes before anyone brought them to our table. By the time they arrived, they were warm. Considering the prices this restaurant charges, that level of service is unacceptable. When our first appetizer arrived, we were not provided with napkins, plates, chopsticks, soy sauce, wasabi, or ginger. We had to ask multiple employees for basic items that should have accompanied the meal automatically. Eventually, we gave up and retrieved what we needed from the bar ourselves. No guest should have to do that. The food itself was mediocre at best and did not justify the premium pricing. We sent one of our sushi rolls back because it was poorly prepared and presented sloppily. Surprisingly, when it was remade, it still looked as though it had been assembled by someone with very little sushi-making experience. What made the experience even more disappointing was the apparent lack of management involvement. Rather than actively overseeing the dining room and addressing service issues, the managers seemed more focused on socializing while service visibly deteriorated around them. The staff appeared overwhelmed, inexperienced, and unsupported. Our server was friendly, but friendliness alone cannot make up for such inattentive service. To make matters worse, two neighboring tables appeared to be experiencing many of the same problems, despite the restaurant not being particularly busy. There was simply no excuse for the level of disorganization we witnessed. Overall, the food was nowhere near good enough to justify the prices, and the service was among the worst restaurant experiences I've had in a long time. An automatic 18% gratuity is added to every bill, and unfortunately, the level of service made it feel as though there was little incentive to provide a quality dining experience. I would not recommend this restaurant and will not be returning. read more

I saw some not so great reviews but it's a new restaurant and there are always growing pains. We had a great experience, the quality and preparation was excellent. We were there during the week so we were seated immediately and the staff was knowledgeable and friendly. We're low maintenance type and know what we want to eat. I guess if you don't eat raw fish or super needy this is not your place. If you like sushi and beautiful atmosphere, try it. read more

I was really looking forward to trying Tokyo Tuna in South Miami after seeing an article about its grand opening and it looked amazing! I had no idea they already had a location in Brickell, and since this one's much closer to home, I was super excited to check it out. Unfortunately, the experience was a bit disappointing. We had a reservation and requested seats at the bar counter where the sushi boats go around so we could grab plates as they pass, but on a Saturday night, I didn't expect the boats to be empty. They stayed that way for a good 30/40 minutes, and by the time they finally started filling up, we had already ordered a la carte because we were too hungry to wait. Ironically, once the boats began circulating, we were full and the two plates we did try (edamame and one roll) tasted cold and not very fresh. On the bright side, the a la carte dishes were delicious. The crispy sushi rice was phenomenal, and the Tuna Triple Play which came with Bluefin Japanese O toro, Ch -toro, and Akami tuna nigiri was super high quality and fresh. For dessert, we tried the lava cake, but it turned out too dense, overly sweet, and took forever to arrive. Service overall wasn't great either, which was surprising since it wasn't even that busy. Not sure if I'd rush back, but maybe I'll give it one more try and hope I can turn my like into love next time read more

I've ordered catering from here many times for work, so I already knew the food was consistently good, but dining in took it to another level. Everything was fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. You can really tell the quality and care that goes into each dish. The service was attentive and friendly. We were just stopping by for a quick bite and the staff immediately made us feel welcomed and taken care of. We sat outside and what was supposed to be a quick stop turned into a really nice, relaxed date night with my husband. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, perfect for a casual but special evening. I was very excited to eat here. And while the food tasted fresh and it was ok I was taken aback by how dirty the restaurant was. Mind you we got there on a Monday afternoon right after they opened at 5pm. Service was good and friendly. Sat at the sushi boat bar. While everything was ok during dinner, it's when I had to use the restroom that I looked down and saw how dirty the floor was. Which then made me look at the rest of the place. Chairs with stains, black goo already stuck to the floor. This is a new restaurant, this should not happen and even more so when raw food is being served! We arrived without a reservation and expected there might still be a wait, but the hostess told us it would be about 45 minutes. We ended up waiting, and once we were finally seated at the sushi river table, we received no service for the first 15 minutes. When the waiter finally came over, we ordered everything at once since we had already been waiting so long. After that, we waited another 20-30 minutes for our food. While waiting, we stepped outside briefly for a smoke break. About 5 minutes later, instead of simply letting us know that our food was ready, the hostess came outside and threatened to give away our table if we did not come back inside because they needed to keep the tables moving. This was extremely frustrating because we had already waited a long time, then waited again for service and food. It felt unfair and unprofessional to be rushed and threatened after the delays were on their end. The food itself was also disappointing. The sushi river was empty. The sushi we were about to get from the sushi river was cold, and we ordered edamame along with a few other plates. The gyoza was okay, but definitely not worth the price for only two pieces. Overall, the employees and owners were rude and entitled, and the whole place felt disorganized. Save your money and go to Miyako down the street, or just go to Sushi Sake across the street instead. read more

We had a few other sushi rolls that were not good at all, tasted like it was not fresh. Made a reservation and the table was not ready when we got there on time. We were moved to a high top away from the boats and then once the table was ready, we were moved. It was hot asf in dining room and the bathroom. Seemed like the AC was broken :/ Service was awful as well, requests took forever m, and our server barely checked on us. It would take her 5-10 mins for her to come back to our table. And when she came to pick up plates, she ask us to hand it to her. We ordered a Jeff roll and never got it. We had to ask for chopsticks and sauce. The environment is beautiful and a nice change. Fantastic patio for cooler days. The service was very good. Our waiter even offered to have the sushi masters create /bring back a volcano role that wasn't on the menu. The food was ok, but not great. The gyoza was flavorful, though the dough was heavy. The rolls looked lovely, but flavors were unimpressive. The mochi was horrible, and I would suggest avoiding that completely. The rice dough was just wrong. The food flavors can always get better. A bit disappointing. I would say that I might give it another chance down the road since it is so new. The server was totally uneducated on the menu, and gave my questions many incorrect answers. I eat no raw and she told me all rolls are raw (which was not true) . I ordered udon noodles and added shrimp for protein. Shrimp was not in it when it arrived. I mentioned 3 times and she did nothing to rectify. The river where the boats go around had edamame that was cold and not fresh. We asked to get a hot order. I don't like that those boats of raw fish sat out for hours and no one took. That is not safe for the fish to just sit out. NOT fresh. My wife loves Sushi so when Tokyo Tuna opened near by I thought I would surprise her and pick a selection up for her for dinner but the surprise was the sushi I go barely had any real fish in it at all! It was almost all fake crab stuffing in each of the 3 different things I ordered. So the one that was supposed to be yellowtail had a small piece on top about the size of your pinkie nail and the rest was fake crab that It is made from processed white fish (usually pollock) shaped and flavored to mimic crab meat.
