I was really looking forward to trying Tokyo Tuna in South Miami after seeing an article about its grand opening and it looked amazing! I had no idea they already had a location in Brickell, and since this one's much closer to home, I was super excited to check it out. Unfortunately, the experience was a bit disappointing. We had a reservation and requested seats at the bar counter where the sushi boats go around so we could grab plates as they pass, but on a Saturday night, I didn't expect the boats to be empty. They stayed that way for a good 30/40 minutes, and by the time they finally started filling up, we had already ordered a la carte because we were too hungry to wait. Ironically, once the boats began circulating, we were full and the two plates we did try (edamame and one roll) tasted cold and not very fresh. On the bright side, the a la carte dishes were delicious. The crispy sushi rice was phenomenal, and the Tuna Triple Play which came with Bluefin Japanese O toro, Ch -toro, and Akami tuna nigiri was super high quality and fresh. For dessert, we tried the lava cake, but it turned out too dense, overly sweet, and took forever to arrive. Service overall wasn't great either, which was surprising since it wasn't even that busy. Not sure if I'd rush back, but maybe I'll give it one more try and hope I can turn my like into love next time

The decor is beautiful. We went on a Friday evening had reservations. Sat inside. Laura was our service provider. Her recommendations were amazing. We practically ordered the entire menu.

I've ordered catering from here many times for work, so I already knew the food was consistently good, but dining in took it to another level. Everything was fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. You can really tell the quality and care that goes into each dish. The service was attentive and friendly. We were just stopping by for a quick bite and the staff immediately made us feel welcomed and taken care of. We sat outside and what was supposed to be a quick stop turned into a really nice, relaxed date night with my husband. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, perfect for a casual but special evening. Definitely a spot I'll keep going back to, both for work catering and personal nights out!

I was very excited to eat here. And while the food tasted fresh and it was ok I was taken aback by how dirty the restaurant was. Mind you we got there on a Monday afternoon right after they opened at 5pm. Service was good and friendly. Sat at the sushi boat bar. While everything was ok during dinner, it's when I had to use the restroom that I looked down and saw how dirty the floor was. Which then made me look at the rest of the place. Chairs with stains, black goo already stuck to the floor. This is a new restaurant, this should not happen and even more so when raw food is being served! I left hoping and praying I wouldn't get sick. Has potential but a lot of kinks to work out.

Went for a date night, and the service was horrible, the waitress forgot about our drinks, and my husband found metal shavings in his food.

I reallyyyy liked this place and will be coming back! I think it's now my new go to sushi spot! It's superrrr cute, the fish is very fresh, and the sushi boat river is MY FAVORITE!! Sooo cool and entertaining! I devoured and loved everything I got! 10/10 Oh also, the service was amazing, everyone is so nice and kind!

Honestly the sushi is solid I not gonna lie it's nothing special but it's good sushi can't go wrong with the place but it's nothing out of the world I will say the place is beautiful the design of it is awesome they also have a sushi river where you can get small plates

    OTORO Roll

The food is exquisite. The toro, the uni, the everything. I know it's not typical for a Japanese restaurant but you have to have the carrot cake. Best I've had in my life and I know carrot cake.

My favorite though was the Diana Roll, it had Spicy Tuna, avocado and was topped with imitation crab salad. I loved that it had tempura flakes sprinkled on top. Everything we ate was great. We had 2 bottles of sake which were both good. My favorite was obviously the pink bottle. It was sweet but not overpowering. This is such a nice spot to have dinner with friends or family. I will say the sushi roll itself (while not necessarily small) was not all that large/filling, so I would recommend getting something else on the side. I liked that their roll and appetizers had a fun flavor and uniqueness that I haven't seen at other places. But I will say the prices are a little expensive but I guess average for Miami area. I was surprised to find single-use chopsticks over reusable ones. A small detail in an otherwise fairly nice restaurant that did kind of stick out to me. The vibe kind of felt like a mix of a slightly more upscale restaurant, but also kind of minimalist modern if that makes sense? Additionally, our service was a bit slow, with our waiter right over our shoulder asking if we were ready to place our order, no then not being around for the rest of the meal. Maybe it was just an off night though, and the food did come out fairly quickly. Overall I did enjoy my meal here, and I would probably come back eventually when I want something slightly more upscale. But on a day-to-day I would probably go Edward for my sushi fix. Not that the food was bad by any meals. I really enjoyed the fun and different flavor combinations, it's just a little pricy to go to everyday, and in my opinion the main portion sizes don't quite reflect that or have any particular flare to them aside from a colorful/flavorful sauce or topping in them. Recommend a try if you are nearby though to see for yourself.

We ended up here on NYE for a quickie bite before heading to Fairchild's Night Garden. The vibe is kitschy and fun and the menu hits the sweet spot for Japonophiles with a curated assortment of faves from takoyaki to tonkotsu and even onigiri. On this night we wanted to keep it light so we started with the Japanese pickles which were a vibrant and crisp mix of veggies. Then a miso soup with fried rolled tofu sheets and lots of fresh green onions. We can never pass up his and hers unagi nigiri, and these were perfection: warm, sweet, and buttery on the tongue. Then it was time for makimono. Sushi in Japan tends to be simpler with a focus on expertly cut fresh fish, but at Umaimon they depart from the classics to play to the American palate with ingredients like cream cheese and mango. Now these are not the most creative offerings you'll find in the 305, but they do offer solid choices done well. He had the Twin Dragon and I couldn't pass on the Sugar Daddy. Now, is this the best Japanese/sushi place you're going to find in Miami? Probably not. But is it the most kawaii? Quite possibly. If you too have fallen in love with Japan but can't afford another plane ticket, Umaimon comes in clutch delivering faves in an unassuming spot.

They also were generous with the fish and avocado in the roll. I was pleasantly surprised to find 12 large pieces instead of the smaller 8 pieces like many other places in the area. Most of the exciting flavor is coming from the sauces, but again the quality of the fish is where this roll is supposed to shine. I also tried their seaweed salad. Same as the roll, the portion size is pretty good, but the seaweed itself was under seasoned. I feel it needed a little bit more vinegar flavor. Overall tho it satisfied the craving. Overall, it is good simple sushi.
