One night in Green Bay before an early morning flight and was looking for a nice place for dinner. Asked at the hotel where the locals eat and ended up at Plae's. Wow! The place decor is beautiful, my server was Sara and she was amazing. And the food - had the Chilean Sea Bass blackened and it truly was outstanding. I've had a lot of sea food in my travels, and plenty of sea bass - this was the best dish Ive ever had. Seriously. The spices were amazing and it was laid over grilled asparagus. Had the Yukon gold potatoes and the presentation was outstanding. And I didn't mention the artisan bread Sara brought out to begin this meal. Just amazing. Total 5-star recommendation. Can't wait until my next trip back through this area because the seafood pasta is my next venture there. Do yourself a favor and have dinner at Plae's and then come back here and thank me. read more

My first experience wasn't very good. My latest experience here totally changed my mind about this place! Came her for dinner with my mom and were able to use a $10 off coupon since it was the business's anniversary. The service was awesome- our server was super energetic and attentive. Wasn't a moment that we didn't have clean silverware, drinks full, or plates on the table. The food was much better than my first experience. We started with an appetizer which was a scallop dish with a risotto that had beef in it. It was DELICIOUS to say the least. Sooo good! I then tried their French onion soup. I like French onion soup, and haven't yet found a place that I've liked better than my own recipe for this. However, this place was pretty darn close. The only thing I would change is the cheese. The smell of the cheese (smelled strongly of sweaty feet lol) was so overpowering. It was a little distracting and a turn off to say the least. Then for my entree I got the ribeye. The sides were good, however, with the meat itself, same complaint as last time. The meat was very tough/hard to cut and wasn't well seasoned. It was also over-cooked.. I ordered my steak medium and it definitely was medium-well or well.. it had almost no red color to it AT ALL. Food was so good this time, I didn't even have room for dessert. That's a first for me! Alright so I found another restaurant worthy of my fake foodie 5 star recommendation. Took a chance on this one to have happy hour with a few members of my team on a Tuesday afternoon. Our hostess invited us to a booth table. We were a little oversized for their booths so we opted for the bar . Great choice because Pam (bartender/server/all around nice person) welcomed the three of us. Started with the berry smash for a beverage. So good, we ordered 6 more. Yep, we did. For a shareable (aka appetizers) we had the seared tuna blackened and the flat bread. DYNO-MITE! Ever had a fig on some flatbread??? Me either; but I will never turn it down after having it here. For dinner I had the halibut with green beans and their risotto... another hit. Everything was fresh, inventive, delicious, flavorful, and served promptly. My peers had a pasta I think, the other had the pecan crusted ________. It was a generous serving of all, but not too much. Finished all but a 10th of our meals because we were full. The fellas took home some desserts for their wives. If the food is that good how could the desserts be bad?!!! Therefore I will not wait for them to review and give me feedback. Popped in for a quiet evening meal on a weekday. Even at 7 on a weekday, place was beginning to pick up. Luckily, full menu available at the bar and I was able to get seated right away. Very nice bartender made a couple of recommendations on beers and I went with the local Badger State IPA (after I sampled it). Hoppy, not to strong. Had the roasted eggplant burger with blue chips and salsa. The burger had a great taste and had a good crunch to it. Went a little overboard on the lettuce but the fresh tomato and avocado were key. Didn't have much of the bun but it was high quality. Salsa was definitely homemade and really tasty. Would have preferred spicier but great taste. Would return. read more

Had a great experience and meal at Plae Bistro on Thursday evening on their sunny patio. Many, many great menu choices made it hard for us to decide, but we'd highly recommend the brussel sprout bruschetta, the Plae Burger, the cod speical and the salmon that we added to a couple of dishes. Incredibly deep bourbon list. The prices on some of the nightly specials were a little high, but given the quality of what we tried, I can only assume they are getting top notch ingredients, justifying the prices. The quality of the service (and the management) is often best measured by how they deal with problems and by that measure, these folks pass with flying colors. While everyone we met was appropriately friendly and attentive, there was a "miscommunication" on one dish we ordered and they dealt with it smoothly, professionally and kindly, quickly getting the dish re-made to the complete satisfaction of our uncle. It truly could not have been handled better. One last thing....the carrot cake was not only HUGE, but more importantly, delicious! read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants. The staff are amazing. From the moment you walk in the door to the moment you leave. Bartenders are polite. Waitstaff is knowledgeable. Food is mouth watering. My favorite meal is the ahi tuna, which is what I got with a Caesar side salad. The daily risotto is always very flavorful. The fresh bread brought to the table was just as good. This was our 3rd time there. The short trip from Neenah the first two visits was amazing. This third time was not a charm. Must have been an off night. Our appetizer at the bar was apparently forgotten about and when the Ahi bites arrived they were ice cold. The fish I had was okay but just not as wowing as prior visits. We have enjoyed this restaurant in the past; however, after we were seated we had a 30 minute wait before anyone even came to our tabl. They apologized. All of the other tables had timely service around us. We expected the same. We were seated on the patio. We ended up being the last table. We sat waiting for our plates to be cleared and asked about dessert. A busser came and got our plates. We continued to wait. We sat alone on the patio for over 30 minute. No one checked in on us. No bill came. We finally had to walk around the building to the front and ask for our bill. It took another 15 minutes. We are very disappointed. They also did nothing to compensate. Since I first discovered it, I have visited Plae Bistro on every trip to Green Bay. The food is consistently well executed and the service is always friendly. I'm a big fan of the roll served before the meal with a tapenade, herb butter, and herb infused olive oil. For the main course, I have been tending towards fish dishes like the pan seared salmon and pecan encrusted walleye. I have also lucked out with an excellent Chilean sea bass on the featured menu which changes daily. An added perk of dining at Plae Bistro is the free glass of house wine with Yelp check in. Check-ins must not be too common here as my servers never seem to know about the Yelp offer. However, they have always honored it. Plae Bistro is probably not a suitable choice if you are looking for Wisconsin staples like cheese curds, but it's the best dining I found so far in Green Bay. read more

Of course, I always Yelp restaurants when traveling. I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites - Green Bay East, and this restaurant was a 2 minute walk across the street. Seeing it has pretty much 5 stars, and the menu was decently priced, I decided to have dinner there. Ambiance: Wow! Nice, dimly lit areas with a center fireplace for waiting while tables get freed up, lots of tables and booths, and two seaters (for people who travel). Christmas is next week, so it was decorated tastefully with a modern touch. I was a walk in and they had a table immediately ready for me to sit down at. There was, however a 20 minute wait time for bigger parties - hence the properly placed fireplace waiting area. There was an influx of women dining and wining here. I mean this place was PACKED a few moments after I sat down. My waitress, Cindy (or Cindee, Cindi, Cyndee - spelling doesn't matter when it's the same name) promptly served me and asked what if I would like a drink to start off with. I chose the house cabernet, and ordered right away since I already saw the menu posted here, on Yelp. Food: I ordered the blackened ahi tuna appetizer, tomato bisque soup, and ahi tuna salad. Complimentary bread came out with 3 sides: garlic butter, olive oil, and their house tapenade. The best one was the tapenade, with the right mix of seasoning, oil, and choice of olives. Next came out the blackened ahi tuna appetizer. The tuna was decently fresh (for being so inland from a coast), and the blackened outer had the right mix of pepper and salt. This is a must try! The plate comes plated with house-made horseradish and a perfectly sweet sauce decorated on the plate. Underneath the tuna was sweet tomatoes and ripe avocados. Also, the tapenade makes a great spread on the tuna. The tomato bisque is a proper one. Not to tangy, not too salty. The ahi tuna salad was excellent as well. I added more of the tapenade onto the tuna because why not? The salad had mixed leafs, and right amounts of chopped mango, goat cheese (?), and a sweet and tart dressing. I like to make maps. No, I don't dabble in cartography, I make Google maps any time I travel. I plot out the trip as well as points of interest (usually restaurants) along the way. Yes, it is nerdy, but it has helped me discover some true gems, like Plae. I have a tendency to throw a bunch of places on a map and remember nothing about what drew me to them, except they have some food on the menu I found appealing. This was the case with Plae; a place adjacent to a Holiday Inn Express and anchoring an almost vacant strip mall. The state of the mall gave me pause, but we were hungry and went in. The place is very nice, having undergone a recent expansion that basically doubled the space. They have a room in the bar area, a dining room, outdoor patio and little room that looks like it is for tastings. Make a reservation because it gets packed; we got lucky by arriving before the dinner crowd. The couple arriving as we left wasn't so fortunate, unwilling to contend with the wait for a table. It took us forever to order, through no fault of our friendly, patient server. We had difficulty choosing one item each, there were many items on the regular menu and special menu calling our name. I settled on the mango fish tacos with a side of cheesy broccoli potatoes and my partner in crime the grouper with sides of carrots and duck risotto. Before our meals arrived, we were served rolls with a trio of toppings - seasoned olive oil, olive tapenade and the "butter of the week." The butter, oh the butter! We actually asked if we could buy it, but decided it wouldn't keep while we camped (cue sad trombone). Fresh butter with garlic, cheese and New Glarus beer, it was delectable. We asked for extra rolls, so we could enjoy every last bite. I'm salivating as I write this. Our entrees were delicious. My compatriot loved his meal; raving about the fish and the risotto, which had large pieces of duck in it. I tried a bit of the pecan-crusted walleye and it was quite good. If I could find flaw with one thing, it would be my tacos; the tacos need some acid or spice to offset the sweetness of the mango, it was a bit overwhelming. The fish was tender and juicy and cabbage slaw gave them a nice crunch; I was unable to make it through all three. We devoured our meals, leaving no room for the dessert menu. If I ever find myself in Green Bay again, I will be stopping at Plae again. Without a doubt, this was an excellent and unexpected find. read more

The food was pretty good, and the waitress was nice and polite. However, the restaurant has some very peculiar rules! My old fashion tasted so weird and I asked to replace it after the fist sip! She said our manager doesn't allow for that! Old fashion is my favorite drink and I know when it doesn't taste right! It was my first time to see declining a replacement request in a fancy restaurant! Many of the items' price on the menu are crossed off and replaced by a new number. That's not surprising with the inflation. However, I found a %2.99 surcharge on my bill. I asked the waitress about the reason, and she said "it is to compensate for the inflation! Instead of increasing the price for each item, our management adds this to the entire bill." Looks like costumers are doubly paying for inflation! Nice place that was recommended to me. I didnt splurge here on any of the big plates, since this was my 2nd bistro to visit in 2 nights. I instead sampled the plae burger and a seasonal old fashioned: fall fashion. I guess old fashioned's are as popular in Wisconsin, as say margaritas are in Texas. Plae, along with other restaurants in this state, has its own menu of old fashion variations. The cocktail may have been even better than the burger. It reminded me a little of one of my favorite cocktails to drink in the south, the sazerac...without the absinthe of course. I enjoyed the bread service. Burger was great for the first few bites, but due to the cuts of beef (tenderloin, sirloin, ribeye) used for the grind, it was a little on the bland and dry side. I subbed the american cheese for gruyere, for no upcharge. Cooked medium mostly, although I requested medium rare. I don't think cooking it a little more made much difference to the taste though, only the dryness. Other than a less than perfect burger, I subbed for a french onion soup, which was delicious and well worth the extra $3. read more

I'm picky about my mac and cheese being one of my all time favorite dishes and this gets a bullseye - Gluten free friendly: have both pasta and bread options. Makes me happy being able to eat these without having to worry about how my stomach will react to it - Salad selection: not just the standards. They have seafood ones like shrimp, ahi, and salmon. My mom loved her salmon - Buffalo burger: mom's cuz liked the peppery sauce and that it was juicy since the lean meat has a tendency to dry out - Rule of no breaded or fried items: must be unheard of in Wisconsin - Healthier attempt without compromising flavor: example being the buffalo burger and tortilla chips doesn't make you feel like you're making a big sacrifice - Bar: horseshoe shape that looks like a welcoming spot to get a happy hour cocktail - Setting: nice and modern with tall mirrors and dark colors - Pleasant mellow music: xm coffeehouse style - Seating: 2 dining rooms with tables and a few huge deep tall booths that could fit 10 Midlights: - French onion soup: too salty Lowlights: - No kids menu: though they have kid cups and booster/high chairs - No fries w burger figure they could do baked strings or sweet potato fries to stick a their no fry rule - No room for dessert when they brought the big sample plate over I know nothing about Green Bay dining and lucked out finding this on opentable (and cross-referencing with yelp of course). The only thing that kept this place from getting one star was the fact that the Ahi Tuna Bites were amazing and the renovation of the space was nice. I have been here before a year ago and there was a drastic change in service. The service at the bar was slow and inattentive. Ordered a cheese plate and had to wait 5 minutes after it arrived for silverware. Then when I asked for a cheese knife was told they didn't have cheese knives and that I could just use a butter knife. For $15+ for a cheese plate that is regularly on your menu you should carry the appropriate utensils. More than likely will not be coming back - there are many other places in the area that deserve better recognition. read more

This was my second visit to Plae Bistro. Both the service and food are excellent. Tonight it was busy. If we hadn't snagged a couple of seats at the bar, we would have waited about 20 minutes for a table -- and it would have been worth it. The crowd at the bar was lively and well served by the staff. They are knowledgeable and quick. They also knew quite a few regulars and spent time chatting with them as they could. Drink service at the bar is excellent. Many of their cocktails are individually homemade. Their house wines are Salmon Creek. I enjoyed the Cabernet, and my companion loved the Pinot Grigio. Bread service tonight was a rustic white and a pretzel style. It included herb butter, flavored olive oil, and an olive tapenade. The butter was good, but a little cool for easy spreading. The oil and tapenade were excellent. Both were richly flavored and mild, not biting. The tapenade had just the right amount of salt. The cheddar cauliflower soup was perfect for today's cooler weather. It was rich with cheese, and the cauliflower was blended in developing a balanced texture that wasn't too rich. We shared the marinara goat cheese brulee as we waited for our main courses. The goat cheese and marinara sauce were excellent. I would have enjoyed a bit less sauce as it sometimes drowned out the rich tangy flavor of the cheese. The portion size was plentiful, more than enough to round a meal of salads for two people. My companion enjoyed her caprese with heirloom tomatoes and a scallop. For me, the ahi tuna was excellent. The tuna was seasoned well, but the spices didn't overpower the meat, which was perfectly cooked to rare. The combination of mango, pickled onions, avocado, feta, and jicama with the meat and salad greens was perfect. The wasabi vinaigrette had just a slight kick and melded all the flavors together. I don't go for dessert very often, but the food here was so good that I couldn't resist. My companion and I split a typical Midwestern "better than sex" cake, which was just decadent enough to tie up this meal without ruining it. Plae Bistro doesn't serve the food I typically think of in Green Bay, but they have enough cheese in the menu to remind you that you haven't left Wisconsin. The menu is full of excellent choices from lighter salads to full on dinners for die-hard carnivores. Many of the dishes contain local ingredients and interesting combinations that make this a great place to check out if you are visiting Packer Stadium for a game or a tour. read more

Wow wow wow. The food here is very, very good! I am writing this as I am just getting home, still stuffed and satisfied. So, my husband and I decided to try this place after all the rave yelp reviews. And man, are we glad we did! For one, the place was packed! Several people were turned away as the night wore on because they didn't make reservations, so keep that in mind. I'm sure it's fine on weekdays but on a Saturday night the place is full! So, to start off, I was able to redeem my yelp offer for a free glass of house chardonnay. Getting boozed up for free is always a great way to score some points in my book. The wine was good too! Next, the atmosphere. It was a mix between a bar and a 5-star restaurant. To be honest, it threw me off. Some people were dressed up and others were in their jeans. I liked the casual undertone however so that was fine. Service was very attentive and knowledgeable. So, the food. They start you off with little bread buns, warm and fresh. We were given 2. We had an herbed biscuit and pretzel bun. With it, they serve three dipping sauces/spreads. My only complaint is they didn't give us enough bread to use all the delicious spreads on! One was an herb infused olive oil (yum) another was a chopped olive spread (double yum) and the last was an Herby, fresh butter (triple yum) mixing them together on the herb bun was heaven. I had the beef tenderloin cooked to medium. Oh wow was it good. Cooked perfectly, very juicy, and the dry rub on the outside gave it perfect spice and texture. Best we have had in Green Bay. It was served with mashed sweet potatoes and seasonal veggies (Brussels sprouts.) The sprouts were cooked wonderfully and very delicious. The sweet potatoes were a bit too spicy for my tastes, which clashed awkwardly with the sweetness of the potatoes, but the sprouts helped neutralize the taste. That is my only picky-pants complaint. The beef was so good that everything was forgiven for 5/5 stars. This truly is one of the best restaurants in the area. Stop by and give it a try. The quality of food is well worth the price!
