Dirty martini and an old fashion

We walked in without a reservation and they gladly seated us. You could tell they were short staffed but working very hard to make the experience for everyone great. We had great drinks, great food and a great time! Thank you Maddy for your great service on a busy homecoming night - you were fantastic!

Someone gave much thought to the decor at Stella's, and it strikes just the right note for a friendly/cozy/warm gathering. We skipped the bar for a patio table in the back because the Wisconsin evening was just right. We were hungry but didn't want to spoil our dinner, so we asked for bread, which was $1 per slice, served with butter. Nice beer selection included some craft beers, so I tried something new. My dinner companion often has difficulty hearing conversation in a restaurant, but there was no problem on the porch. Music was playing softly-- just enough to set the mood-- and the porch is on a side street, so there wasn't much traffic noise. Now for the food: I ordered a small Caesar salad with a piece of salmon. Size of the salad was just right for me and the salmon was cooked perfectly. I wasn't super-impressed with the Caesar part. Companion chose comfort food--a big bowl of pasta with Italian sausage. It was a generous portion. He was kind enough to share and we both declared it delicious. It had these red peppers that were sweet and spicy at the same time; I don't know what they were. The sausage had some kick to it, but just the right amount and the sauce was fabulous. This is the kind of dish you wish you could create re-create at home, but you will never be able to get it just right. Service was very good. I love that the menu offers an option to "buy a drink" for the kitchen stuff. All in all, it was a wonderful evening.

    Waygu Wagyu Tenderloin*

Strong review here. I was working in Green Bay for the day and decided to drive to De Pere for dinner. Found this spot . I ordered the Waygu tenderloin with Sweet Potatoes and Asparagus. The tenderloin was a little over cooked but was well seasoned and delicious. The star of the dish was really the sweet potatoes. Seasoned with Rosemary, it was absolutely incredible. I sat at the bar and the service was good. Other meals I saw coming out looked good. Overall great spot for dinner in the area

In town for the Packers/Texans game,…read morethis lunch shack was a few miles from our hotel and after reading the reviews, we took a chance on checking this out. Fortunately we were rewarded with a pleasant experience that was light on the wallet (for 2020s standards) and made us fans. Don't be fooled by the exterior/interior as it may give a cabin-like feeling when you're around. The staff are diligent in making the tables clear while getting orders ready. They only had two people working who both were doing the cooking, phone orders, in-person orders, and cleaning/bussing. Talk about a do-it-all crew. Now for the eats. I ordered a bowl of booyah and some cheese curds while pops had a plain burger. My first time having booyah, it reminds me of brunswick stew; tons of chicken, potatoes, vegetables, beans, in a thick tomato broth. Tons of flavor and quite filling, there's a reason why they sell quarts of this for tailgating and the cold stay-at-home days. I would dip my cheese curds in here which were also tasty. Right fried texture with a good cheese pull, dip it in the booyah for some of that salty consistency. Talk about a food-cheat code! My pops burger was cooked a perfect medium-rare and for only $6, was quite a bargain. This will be on the rotation whenever I'm in Green Bay for the Booyah and to try other items like their poutine and fried cod dinners. Booyahkasha!

Our server was cut loose on his first night on his own and was very pleasant and friendly. He was…read morestill a bit in the learning phase, but his demeanor and attitude made up for any minor lapses in service. We started out with me ordering my standard martini order, which is slightly complicated, and he delivered wonderfully...it just took a few minutes, but apparently he was responsible for tracking down the martini glasses (hint: they are in the refrigerator). At any rate, we got our drinks and ordered our food. When the food came out I took one bite and discovered my Turkey Reuben was a Corned Beef one instead. He took it back to the kitchen and they were correcting the order and he told us we would not be charged for that, which was a nice accomodation. What he meant was we would not be charged for 2-the right one and the wrong one. Hmmm, when we asked about it, he went to the manager and they comped us $5 off the bill. That works fine for me for the short wait. The correct sandwich was heaped full and very tasty. My wife got the Turkey Pita, which was also pretty tasty and chocked full of ooey-gooey delicious Tzatziki sauce, turkey, and other fixins. The building is interesting, as it seems like 2 bar/restaurants that decided to connect to each other. There are 2 full bars (only one in use the night we were there), and two dining areas; one by each bar. Overall, I'd go again. Food was solid and prices very reasonable.

You'll also want to get the cheese curds, because when in Wisconsin, you get the cheese curds. These curds are crispy yet chewy, and come with ranch dressing. Nicky's specializes in sandwiches, so they have a lot of them on the menu. I got one of their more popular sandwiches -- the Nicky's Thick Cuban. It is indeed thick! Layers of pork and ham, Swiss cheese and pickles. I split it with another person. Half of a Nicky's Thick Cuban plus fries is enough for one person's lunch. That, and a cup of gumbo, and you've got yourself a splendid meal. We visited on a Friday, so one of the people in my party ordered the Fish Fry. I tasted a bite of the crispy fish and it was delicious. The fish fry comes with fries or potato salad, plus a slice of rye bread, butter and slices of raw onion. I didn't know this, but you eat the fish with the bread and butter and onion like a little taco! It's what you do in this part of Wisconsin. Nicky's has a huge bar (two of them, in fact), with every type of drink you can think of. This is a popular restaurant with students at St. Norbert College, as it's right across the street, basically.

They have ample bar seating and table seating. Decent amount of parking. The elevator right when you enter takes you down to the bathroom, I didn't use them so I'm not sure on cleanliness. The actual restaurant itself was very clean. Service: They have a method set up where you have multiple people assisting you throughout the entire experience. Someone to bring waters, someone to take your order and bring the check, people to bring out food. Everyone was friendly and we had our water glasses refilled once. Food: The food was okay. I'm really torn on the experience because some reviews said the food was over seasoned but ours was a weird mix. Appetizers- The cheese curds were so tiny (they were smaller than my thumb nail) that all you tasted was batter and salt. The lobster bisque was really over seasoned and it needed acid (fresh lemon wedge on the side would have been nice). It was super rich which is expected but it needed something to break it up. I think they tried doing that with the creme fraiche on top but it didn't work. Entrees- I had the lobster cobb salad and my partner had the lobster rolls. The lobster rolls were super tiny so they were still hungry when they left and there wasn't much flavor or filling. The french fries were decent, probably the best part of the meal. The lobster cobb salad was so bland. Whatever dressing they had on the lettuce tasted of just avocado, which doesn't have a lot of flavor. The lobster itself was sweet in flavor but the cooking of it felt off, it was stringy? I ended up leaving most of the salad on my plate. I'm thinking we just ordered the wrong items off of the menu based off of other reviews. But it's quite a long drive for us to come here so I can't see us going out of our way to come back.
