This is 3 stars because our server was great! The food and price could have been better! It was getting late and we didn't really have time to look around for a place to eat and get diesel so we ate here based on some reviews and looks. Boy wish we would have kept driving. The bread at Red Lobster tastes better than the rolls they serve here. I chose the chicken oscar because it had crab. I should have went with my gut and went with what I love! Steak or prime rib! The chicken was bland! I basically ate the crab and took a few bites of chicken. The pea's were over cooked! The only thing I can say I liked was the salad. They put dried cranberries in it which made it appealing to the palate. I didn't mind the chowder. But I can't say I would like to frequent this place just for the chowder or the salad. The ambiance of the restaurant is very nice with beautiful views of Coos Bay. Some good PNW beer on tap and the service staff was friendly. My husband and I both had the seafood platter which we found to be extremely disappointing. All of the seafood is frozen, which is a shame for a restaurant sitting on the bay near the Pacific. The clam strips were burnt. The cod breading wasn't crispy. The only decent part were the prawns and the loaded mashed potatoes. If you go, don't get the seafood. read more

The Plank House is the "formal" dinning area in the Mill Casino. As opposed to the buffet and the floor cafe. Our entree's were fish and chips and fettuccine alfredo with bay shrimp. The fish was albacore tuna as the halibut was gone. Albacore tends to be drier, but this was just acceptable, not so horrible you send it back, not so horrible you flame it. The batter was heavy and the chips were just passable as a potato product. The alfredo and plate were blazing hot, meaning it was stuck in the warmer for quite sometime. I'm as certain as I can be, the sauce came from a jar. Another reviewer expressed the same opinion of the ubiquitous "white sauce". If you have a restaurant on the bay and you use tinned bay shrimp, you fail. If those shrimp we're fresh I'm a rhino. Very little about this meal was above average. Both plates were bland and worth a third the price. Just because it's Casino fare does not exempt it from judgement. For a literal money generating machine the food was unacceptable. Everyone has a bad day... Our server seemed to be suffering from having a bad day. No stars deducted for it. Stuff happens. I can highly recommend the desert tray, as it would appear all or most are made on site and to order. This is the only reason they did not receive a single star. read more

Have been a long time customer of the Plank House, every Sunday after church. We were always very happy with the food quality and the excellent servers, along with the menu choices. However recently menu has changed. It now cost more to get the same items I used to pay less for. Not happy about that. Also most of the servers are new. Don't like that either. Today myself and friend ordered our usual poached eggs with soft yoke. Both orders came out almost hard boiled - they redid them for us and they came back fine on the second try. I have ate at the Plank House a couple of times, both times I have had good food, not great but good. The view from the restaurant is nice. Several reviews have said you must walk through the SMOKEY casino to get to the restaurant that isn't a actually true. You can get to the restaurant and bar next to it by going along the walkway outside on the back side of the hotel/casino. I will go back next time I am in Coos Bay. read more

We had a great meal for Mother's Day. Service was outstanding. Two of us had the ribeye steak and the other the filet special. All three steaks came out perfectly cooked to the correct temperature. Update2-The manager gave us a gift certificate to compensate for the Valentines Day disaster. We used it tonight. Waiter Mario seemed new but attentive. The shining star was the bus person Jordan. I've eaten here throughout the 20 years ups and downs, Today they have a new chef in town I had the wild mushroom ribeye steak to die for with truffle butter they finally found their jewel . We were reluctant to visit, since this is part of the casino and we are both bothered by cigarette smoke. However, we read reviews telling of avoiding the smoke by walking along the bay side on the boardwalk. Very nice view of the bay and no smoke. Inside, we were seated at a window table and were promptly and pleasantly greeted. It was a "bottle" wine night with specials on all the wines. So, we enjoyed a nice bottle at a great discount with our meals. Our appetizer could have been the meal. It was fantastic. I believe it was named the plank house smoked salmon. We expected a small serving, but it was huge. We had also ordered the fish and chips (one serving each). When the salmon arrived, we were really concerned how much food the main course would be. Unfortunately, the fish and chips was really a light meal and marginal. This was disappointing and the reason for removing a star. ... maybe it should be worth removing two stars? The service was great. The air was clear of smoke. The view of the bay was pleasant. The appetizer was fantastic. I won't ever order their fish and chips again. The one stars for the bread that came with the meal. Other then that, all around epic fail. I would describe it as sizzler quality at fine dining prices. Ordered the special of lobster ravioli wich turned out to be standard cheese ravioli with 3 peices of quarter size over cooked lobster on top. When we commented to our teenage waiter he told us "between you and me it's really old lobster". I think he realized he shouldn't have said that when he saw the shock on our faces. He then offered to comp the ravioli wich would've been the right thing only his manager disagreed & only offered 20% off the bill ($12). Went to dinner on Wednesday for the 2 for $25 special. We both had the rib eye steak dinner. We ask for medium-rare steak but got it medium. The dinner came with snap peas but the ends still had the stems on, the stems I felt should have been removed. My wife's potatoes were dry. The side salad and stuffed mushrooms were good. The wait staff was pleasant. I still feel the Plank House should be better since that's their #1 restaurant. I did have a dinner voucher and I thank you (The Mill) for that. We had a great experience at this restaurant. We arrived @ 5 pm and was warmly greeted and was immediately seated. We could have ordered one of the early bird specials but chose the 2 for $25 special. We ordered the dinner salad and flank steak. The waitress was very nice and had an excellent knowledge of their tap beers. Our salad was fresh, the steak was tender and cooked as we asked. The red potatoes and greens beans We're tasty. Great service and good food. The only reason not given 5 stars is the really stinky entrance through the casino. They really need a better ventilation system. We just got back from Thanksgiving dinner at the Mill in the Plank House Restaurant. From the wonderful hostesses, the our adorable waitress, the service was excellent. The Thanksgiving dinner was beyond delicious. The salad, the turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole deconstructed to the cranberry cheesecake, all excellent. WHat made it all perfect were the great employees and the gorgeous view of Coos Bay. After dinner we stopped at the craps table to watch the action. A fun way to spend Thanksgiving. I stay at the mill casino when I come back to Coos Bay to visit the parents. The Mill is by far, the nicest place in town. Unfortunately, they can not get their food in order. I've eaten steak and seafood at the Plank House 6 times now. I haven't yet tried chicken or pastas. The entrees have always sounded great on the menu, but turn out to be average at best. Preparation turns out to be under seasoned and cooked at a low temperature for too long, giving the entrees the qualities of buffet food. The appetizers have been very good: smoked salmon, crab stuffed mushrooms, artichoke and crab dip. A daily soup called chicken and artichoke soup is really a chowder, but was fantastic. read more

They redid the menu and have breakfast all day and added lower priced food items and smaller portion meals ! I had seen all the bad Yelp reviews for the Plank House Restaurant and was a bit reluctant at first to eat there. However, as guests at the casino's hotel, we had a $10.00 dining credit at one of their restaurants, and we didn't want to waste it, so (with uncertain expectations) we chose the Plank House. It turned out that our food was very good and the experience was a pleasant one. I ordered a Sirloin Steak and my friend ordered a Plank House Sampler Plate of various appetizers. Well, it did take quite awhile to finally get our food. . .about 35 minutes. . .but once we got it, we had no complaints at all. My steak was very flavorful (not all restaurant steaks taste this good) and cooked perfectly. My vegetable side dish was snap peas which were sautéed properly with the right amount of crispness. My friend's sampler plate consisted of loaded potato skins, calamari, chicken drummettes, mozzarella sticks, onion rings, and chicken tenders with various dipping sauces. It was a lot of fried stuff (and not exactly the healthiest meal), but that's what she WANTED, and she really liked it! Also, I thought everything was reasonably priced. Throw in the fact that we received excellent and courteous service from our hostess and servers, and the entire meal definitely exceeded my initial "uncertain expectations". read more

The appetizers are pretty good. I like the oysters and the clam chowder. I would stay away from most of the fried foods as they seem really greasy to me. Had the crab melt last night and I did not like it. It was some kind of seafood salad with eggs, crab, bay shrimp, bell peppers and was sweat tasting. I had a good experience dining here. I ordered the fish and chips and it wasn't bad. We had a late dinner there so there wasn't many people, and we sat by the window but obviously couldn't see outside because it was dark. It's a nice, clean and safe environment. Not so happy ... We have eaten at the Plank House dozens of times and usually choose from the "smaller portion" menu which generally is a perfect size dinner. Aug 21st when we ordered my meal was fine (NY Steak) and our waitress who was new was great (Salina) but when my husband's "smaller portion" of the spaghetti was served we were both amazed ...how expensive are spaghetti noodles? The sausage and sauce were fine but the noodles were enough for only a couple of bites. The place was busy and we did not complain but I seriously doubt we will try this again. We are accustomed to smaller portions and often split a meal so our expectations are portion appropriate. Really disappointing. Enough so that I am writing this review which is my first. read more
