Stopped off here for a bite on a hot July afternoon and we sat in a shady area out in the patio. The atmosphere was delightful and staff fast and friendly. We had fries and a Greek salad as starters (both are very sharable), and they were delicious. The flavors were spot on and brought me back to memories of sitting in a taverna in Greece. Who knew this was here? I went to UCLA and they tore down a parking lot and built this hotel/restaurant in it's place. It's a fancy restaurant for a college, and I did not expect it when I was invited to a group dinner here. We had several dishes family style. I really enjoyed the salads, and the steelhead. The chicken, broccolini, tomatoes, and penne were pretty standard. They had this drink one woman at our table ordered - it was a ginger lemon drink (non-alcoholic), and three of us followed suit and ordered the same thing and it was the most delicious non alcoholic drink I've had in a while. I would definitely order that again. Hoping I'm invited to another group dinner at this restaurant in the future. read more

My mom and I stayed at the attached hotel for a few nights so we ended up eating at Plateia a few times - four times in fact - and I still considered extending my stay just so I could eat my way through more of their menu. In those four meals we enjoyed a pepperoni and cremini mushroom pizza, a meze platter, a burrata plate with fig and prosciutto and pistachio pesto, honey spiced duck breast with polenta and chanterelles and more figs, perfectly roasted chicken with sunchokes, and a chocolate cremeux cake alongside whiskey and gin from the bar. I would add some descriptive adjectives to each item but it was like each plate was even better than the last. The service was great as well and we enjoyed our last dinner at lovely table outside in their beautiful enclosed courtyard and had nice conversations with restaurant managers Graham and Jordan. My only regret is not trying the breakfast or brunch! We joked about writing a horrible review just so we could keep this place to ourselves but the truth is I could not recommend Plateia more. read more

Located in the UCLA Luskin Center, the UCLA home for conferences large and small, Plateia wa located in a beautiful patio surrounded by well-tended plants, quiet due to the few cars that venture that far north on Westwood Plaza. Though aimed at UCLA students, faculty, and visitors to the adjacent Ronald Reagan Hospital, Plateia is open to the public. The Luskin Center is gorgeous, with high ceilings, original art, and a luxury feel usually reserved for corporate HQ or upscale museums. We were seated at nice quite table, with a menu that held much promise, so far, so good. Service was earnest but a bit rough, but we ordered without any fuss. The trouble started when the food came. The Greek village salad was drenched in dressing, which took away from the decent olives and and lettuce included. The shrimp pasta, billed as "saffron" looked great decorated with shell on shrimp resembling small langoustines, but one taste told me that something was very wrong. the shrimp was overcooked to the point of being tough dry, and tasteless, the saffron was not to be found, substituted with a hot sauce resembling Fra Diavolo but far hotter and almost inedible. The pizzas, also looked and sounded great but the crust was tasteless with a "cardboard" texture suggesting that it wasn't made on the premises from 00 Caputo pizzeria flour or equivalent but might have been pre-made or even frozen. The goat cheese/mushroom mixture had a strong off taste that was not pleasant. The biggest disappointment came last - the "chocolate nemesis" with "whipped bellwether crème fraîche" was average, but the crème fraîche was definitely turned and inedible. When aporsed of this, the wiater just kind of shrugged rather than at the least offering another choice or comping the dessert. Plateia getpoints for its no-tipping policy, mitigating its somewhat inflated menu prices, and its patio. Parking is $6 at the nearby UCLA visitor lot. Needless to say, we will stay away until; the food improves. read more

Located on the UCLA campus inside the Luskin center. My boyfriend and I came for a late lunch on a Sunday afternoon. We parked in the underground lot for $5.00. The place was pretty empty. We requested to sit outside and getting seated was a bit slow. We ordered off the Lounge Menu as it was just past 2pm. To drink we had a hibiscus and lavender soda. Both refreshing! Had I been in the mood for a drink I would've added tequila to mine. We had the Margherita and the Tre Formaggi pizzas. Both excellent but the Tre Formaggi was slightly better. This is a gratuity free place. Our waitress was attentive and super sweet. Made up for the slow start. Offered and brought our pup a bowl of water! Casual ambiance with a great outdoor patio! Cool, easily accessible and convenient little restaurant in the Luskin Center and hotel. Other than that, not much to say. Their menu is very small and short. A burger, salad, fries or a meatball is your offerings. They're got plenty of drinks. I guess they have certain times or days when they have an extended menu. The menu on the weekend is nothing. We got fries which were decent. And the meatball, which was a small meatball sliced in half covered in marinara sauce and random ball of cheese on the side. Then we got the avocado chicken sandwich with fries. Big enough for leftovers that's for sure. And some sparkling rose wine, water, and iced tea for drinks. Overall I wasn't impressed. Service is slow and our waiters changed halfway through. The second girl forgot about our table that another random waiter had to come clear our plates. Still waiting for the check as I write this... our table has mostly been cleared... or maybe it goes to the room. Whatever, leaving now. Wouldn't waste time here again. The food was good but like just good nothing amazing. But there was this one hostess that was horrendous. We have never been treated so rudely before. Like I get that it's a no tipping establishment but that doesn't mean that you can be rude? The rest of the staff were very kind and apologetic but this one lady just ruined the whole experience and was extremely passive aggressive with her comments. This place is fine as long as she is not there but she was genuinely one of the rudest people I have ever met. The other hostess was kind and was trying to get us a table but then this rude hostess just intruded talked over her. We were waiting for an extra chair for the longest time and one of the other staff kindly brought one over to us from another table and then a few minutes later the rude hostesses walked past us sarcastically blaming us for taking the chair from the other table and then started arguing saying that she wasn't being rude. This is the restaurant in the Luskin hotel. There is a bar area as well as the dining area. The dining area takes the right side of the lobby of the hotel. The food is definitely on the higher end with prices (for dinner) ranging from $20-50. Quality is delicious, but definitely on the smaller side. One thing to note: no need to tip! I'm assuming that the staff are being paid competitively so that's an awesome move! The staff is super helpful, esp with explaining the dishes. A+ on the training for high end service. read more

I've stayed at Luskin several times over the years and often eat at Plateia because it is convenient. I would say they have good food but not fabulous food. Staff have always been extraordinarily nice and accommodating, but often failed to execute on the service. For example, during my current stay, I have ordered room service twice. Both deliveries failed to include utensils, napkins, and a side condiment that was ordered. In fact, someone had to return to the kitchen twice to get it right. Last night I ordered the hamburger which has the potential to be pretty delicious, but it was more rare than medium well which I ordered. Finally, I would say it is quite expensive for what you get. This order of spaghetti was $23 and probably amounted to a cup and a half of spaghetti. Good food. Decent service (if you keep you eye out). Not-so-good value. read more

Plateia is a beautiful indoor/outdoor space. For lunch I ordered the Avocado Chicken Sandwich, the chicken was not seasoned and tasted charred but the Reggiano fries were good. To drink I had the lavender house made soda was good and refreshing. My co-worker ordered Sweet Tea, however the waiter didn't communicate they didn't have that so she had to create sweet tea which was fine but wish the waiter knew. Also we ended up having a larger party than what was initially seated and they told us that they don't move tables however as we're finishing up our meal I noticed tables being moved for a 6 person party and I was a bit confused. For a place on a university campus, Plateia has been serving the campus and community and doing something right in the short time they have existed. Plateia is a hidden gem in Westwood. We stayed here for a long weekend and had nearly every meal here because the food was so good. The staff was incredibly nice and accommodating, even though we had an infant who wanted to crawl around everywhere. Joel Barajas, the restaurant's GM stopped by several times at every table to make sure everyone was OK and did so in a genuine way rather than purely checking the box. We'd strongly recommend visiting this place if you're in the area or staying at the Luskin Conference Center. read more

We came here today for a staff lunch, we were told a week or so ago that they could accommodate an increase in our reservation however today the manager was incredibly rude and humiliated our entire group. The server we had was amazing but the manager made our director/doctor leave after he paid because he wouldn't accommodate him and he just wanted us to have a good time. I felt so bad for how they treated him after they had said they would accommodate us. Incredibly rude. He said if we canceled our order that he didn't care because he would just throw the food in the trash. ): no one deserves to be treated like that. We spoke to his supervisor who was incredibly helpful but I'm not sure what the outcome of this will be. Been here a few times since my boyfriend goes to UCLA and the food is pretty good. The outdoor patio is really nice at dinner so that's a plus. The dinner we had was pretty good, but we came for brunch a few weeks ago and were disappointed with the service. We came in with a service dog and the hostesses seemed to not be happy about that. They were annoyed that we had one and then were discussing it in Spanish in front of us. They then seated us at the table directly beside the door when the restaurant was completely empty. It was also a cold and rainy day so every time someone opened the door, a cold breeze would come in. Really disappointing to have them treat us this way just because we have a service dog. Over-rated cafeteria This was our worst anniversary dinner ever. We waited 45 minutes for our first course to arrive. 30 minutes in, I had to beg for some bread. When the food finally arrived, it was disappointing. My sea bream was missing its truffle oil sauce. My husband's steak was overcooked and dry. When he complained, he was made to accept another one, which was better. But by that time, I had finished my fish and had to wait some more. We were charged for everything we ordered. The food was good. Service was OK. When I went to ask for a table there was no one at host desk, so a manager came and asked if I had been helped. I said I would like a table for 5 people, he basically just stood there not knowing what to do until a server came up to help. He said it would be like 5 minutes and 10 minutes later I asked if our table was ready. They finally sat us. The server we started with was good, but then she disappeared. They never just get refills on drinks, we had to ask. Our server wasn't consistent, they kept changing around so we never knew who to ask for things. They left dirty dishes around right in line of sight of our table, which isn't really what you want to see while you are eating. We also ate that night in the private dining space and the service there was also just OK. They would serve the food but not explain what it was, they would just put it down and walk away. After opening up in the Luskin Center, Plateia has been on my bucket list before graduating. My friend and I decided to check it out and maybe should have dressed a little less casual but what can I say if you have been campus all day haha. Although on the pricier side for smaller portions as expected, the quality of the food reflected clean flavors, well-seasoned dishes, and beautifully garnished plates. I got the charred octopus appetizer with the heirloom mixed greens salad. I highly recommend the octopus - two meaty tentacles perfectly seasoned lying on top of bed of pesto and heirloom tomatoes. It may have been slightly overcooked; however, I would definitely order this again. My friend got the salmon, which looked delicious but in my opinion small for the price. My advice? Order an appetizer and a salad to make up your entree. read more

Ok... so full disclosure bad review because I'm insulted. Ordered a chicken sandwich got about 2 bites into the sandwich and noticed a pink vein and a that the chicken meat looked translucent, it's white meat. I was eating outside, it was well lit and the chicken definitely was not cooked thru. I let the server know, the server comes back to my table with SKEWERS OF RAW CHICKEN and a message from the chef to tell me look this is what raw chicken looks like, the chef says it's cooked. Points of fact- I work in safety, I was at one time a food safety inspector, I cook and have actually butchered my own f'n chickens and cooked them... that white meat piece of breast was not cooked thru. Blood turns brown when it's heated and that vein was definitely still red. I wish I had taken a picture. Overall the food and service here is solid. It's overpriced in my opinion but I have never had anything bad, soggy, and this is the first thing I've had that wasn't well prepared. I'll update you all on whether I get the s*it's in the next couple days from consuming undercooked chicken. read more

The Caesar salad was drenched in some kind of anchovy dressing ....way too salty..could not eat. Asked for bread .. arrived cold and butter patties were frozen and rock hard. Pretty solid spot on campus! I was staying at the hotel for the week. So I ate here a few times during my stay for breakfast and dinner. Service was great every time. This place does not allow you to tip as they claim employees are paid a good wage. Upon paying they also give you a UCLA postcard of campus back in the day. It's a nice takeaway from your time there. Omelets are pretty good. Enough variety to get your fill. I got spinach, bell peppers, and goat cheese. Then the Chicken Apple Sausage on the side which was alright. All pretty good portions. "The" Burger is delicious, but incredibly messy if you get it with an egg. If you can navigate the messiness, you'll enjoy it! Fries are fried nicely and not too salty. George's Bank Diver Scallops also another solid choice. It is seared well giving it a nice texture, but may not be as filling for some people. Grilled Spanish Octopus was my favorite dish. I am sucker for octopus that is grilled perfectly. Portion is great for an appetizer. read more

Excellent food, classy ambience and good service! My friend and I visited for dinner, and we had a great time. I ordered the double cut pork chop, and the pork was wonderfully tender with a delicious savory sauce. The chop also came with, among other interesting sides, a potato puree and a grilled apple, which were quite tasty. Wasn't as much a fan of the cabbage section that it came with, but overall I loved the dish. Although the pork chop was expensive ($35) I felt like the quality was worth it--plus, although the restaurant is fancy, they give you very generous portions. I was stuffed. My friend and I also ordered the hummus, which was delicious and served warm with some excellent flatbread. We got a few drinks that were tasty and quite reasonably priced. We ended the night with the basque burnt cheesecake--if you like truly tasting the cheese (here, goat cheese) in your cheesecake, you'll love it! If you prefer more typical cheesecake where the cheese taste is milder, it might not be your thing. Whether you like the burnt outside of the cake, which makes the crust hard, will also be a matter of taste. Either way, the cake was undoubtedly well-made. I would advise coming here for a special occasion for dinner and to come at lunch if you're looking for cheaper prices.
