Half eaten miso butter salmon bowl with green beans, cabbage, greens, and brown rice base.

Wow! Fantastic lunch spot with healthy, fresh, delicious meals. I especially enjoyed the Miso Butter Salmon Bowl with a refreshing Japanese green iced tea.

My wife and I stopped by Plenty on a Sunday Afternoon for their "Pleny+" semi-monthly, weekend-only, pop-up, presented by Chef Asuka Uchida. The $57 pre-fixe menu -- which changes every other week, is incredible in value. I don't think there's a better quality set menu in East Bay. Our meal started off with a trio of appetizers: a cured Atlantic mackerel, a lobster mushroom croquette, and a gulf shrimp chawanmushi. For the two of us, the perfectly fried croquette was our favorite item. The mushroom filling inside was such a wonderful punch of umami to start the meal. While I've had a bunch of chawanmushi in my life, this was the first time I've had a cold rendition of the dish. Between the appetizers and the main course, we had a vegetable potage soup. Like the appetizer course, there was also a mushroom incorporated in the dish, tying the meal together. The soup was incredibly complex, with multiple waves of flavor in each bite. For our entree, we had miso pork belly over a bed of rice with an onsen egg. I'm generally not the biggest fan of pork belly because of how fatty it often tastes, but I really enjoyed the preparation here. The pork belly is sliced thinner than you're typical piece of bacon, and the fat from the pork belly has been nicely rendered out so it doesn't coat your mouth with each bite. The onsen egg seemed like it would overwhelm the dish with its richness, but I found that it was a nice complement that went well with the rice underneath the pork belly. The spicy mustard bamboo shoots and the slivered onions helped balance out the richness as well. Last but not least, we had a Kyoho grape parfait for dessert. This was a refreshing way to round out the end of our meal. I loved the creativity of the pepper mascarpone anaglaise and also the texture provided by the almond cookie crumble. I cannot wait to stop by again to try out another one of Chef Asuka Uchida's pre-fixe menu.

Good spot for a healthy lunch in Uptown, but there were some things that were disappointing. I came by for lunch with a friend on a Friday afternoon around noon and it was empty when we arrived, though it got busier soon afterwards as the lunch rush hit. At one point I remember looking up and being surprised that most of the tables were occupied. I ordered the eel bowl for $15.75. It was ready around 10 minutes later and looked good, but my first thought was that it was a smaller portion than I expected, especially for the eel, given the price. I had to portion out the eel to make sure it was enough to last for all the rice I had. It's a good thing I wasn't super hungry, as I'm not sure this would've been enough food otherwise to last me until dinner. But the most disappointing part to me was the avocado slices that came with the bowl. The avocado was the hardest I've ever had; I couldn't even chew it. I took one bite and immediately spit it out and didn't touch the rest. As someone who loves the combination of unagi + avocado, it was very disappointing to me that they couldn't find a riper avocado for my bowl.

    Nice and clean

Good food and service. I ordered the daily special, kitchen katsu over brown rice. Good portion cook well. Nice and clean place. Easy to find parking too.

Cute modern hipster place on the corner!

The food here is healthy AND delicious. I can meet all of my dietary restrictions no problem - gluten free, dairy free, paleo, keto, whole 30 and sometimes vegan! LOL. Delicious coffee drinks. Try the chai latte for something robust and different. The service is fast and friendly and warm. The ambiance is cute, fun little downtown spot. Feels so comfortable like a hipster hang-out ... easy to chill.

    Takoyaki

Bought takoyaki from them during Happy hours. It was very tasty! Perfectly crisp on the outside and moist in the inside. Tbf though I already started eating as soon I left so no time for it to steam. The workers there are really nice!

This is my new favorite lunch place. I recommend the brown rice bowl and the salads. I also love how easy it is to add bonus items to the meal.

Excellent lunch spot with delicious food, generous portions and it's all pretty healthy as well! The salmon croquette special is fantastic and my usual go to's are the Szechuan fried chicken sandwich, beef rice bowl, and their unagi bowl.

Loved the place. My bowl was amazing. The flavors were so satisfying and can't wait to try some other dishes. The prices are very affordable and my bowl was huge. Wish they stayed open longer

Kale Quinoa Salad and Maccha waffle with fried chicken. Hella good!

I love a health conscious restaurant that serves up delicious meals! if you're craving fresh, classic, and creative dishes head over to plenty. Very hipster and casual. I love the welcoming environment that's created here. I ordered the organic kale quinoa salad w/ grilled chicken. It was truly chef's kiss. The ingredients and texture compliment each other and that dressing is so light and flavorful. My boyfriend ordered the maccha waffle and fried chicken which was filling but not heavy on the stomach. I love the sesame oil they use in the fried chicken, nice touch. Come stop by for some balanced meals and good good vibes at Plenty.

A friend loves this place for lunch, so recommended we meet for Sunday brunch here. (Street parking free on Sunday yay) Clean, cute, artsy inside or outside seating options. They were super nice & moved around umbrellas for us outside to get more shade & dine outdoors. Everyone gobbled up their food. Crunchy salad is the fave. Matcha waffles w miso butter and fried chicken also big winner. We bought more fried chicken to take home. Salmon bowl also good. Mocha & mimosa fabulous. Good selection of beers & cocktails too. Also bought a beautiful balsamic & chocolate croissant to take home for later Restrooms are roomy & clean Local gem. Eager to return & try more stuff. And the pricing is fantastic. I'm usually in Palo Alto where the tiniest thing is $18- we had a great filling entree here for $16.

I pedaled my bike over there this Wednesday morning, aiming to secure a proper breakfast that would actually carry me past 11 a.m. The shop is cozy, definitely on the smaller side with a few seats inside, giving it that familiar, neighborhood spot feel. It's not a sprawling, antiseptic café, and I appreciate that. I ordered the Laney Breakfast Sandwich, which features egg, fresh spinach, sliced turkey, and Swiss cheese on a toasted English muffin. What impressed me was the intentionality--this wasn't something sitting under a heat lamp, looking defeated. It was clearly made to order. The egg was seasoned right, the turkey wasn't flimsy, and the spinach added that necessary fresh bite. It was a damn good sandwich, simple as that. I paired that with the Berry Lovers Smoothie. The original recipe calls for banana, but I asked if they could swap that out for mango. My people know that mango adds a different kind of sunshine, and they executed the substitution flawlessly. It came out thick, perfectly blended--a rich mix of blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and that mango kick. It was super refreshing and didn't taste like I was drinking melted ice. The service was quick and friendly, which is key on a weekday morning. Everything tasted clean, fresh, and intentionally prepared. If you're looking for high-quality breakfast fare that feels less commercial and more like something someone actually cares about, stop by. The short bike ride and the intimate seating are worth it for what comes out of that kitchen. They earned this review.

Our orders were taken and we sat down to wait. There were a TON OF FLIES buzzing around and I kept having to wave them off especially when we got our order to the table, which honestly was gross. We were called to pick up our order, but only 1 of the 4 items was ready: Zadie's Masterpiece Breakfast Sando - Really tasty and enjoyed the biscuit it was on. Skimpy on the bacon, there was ONE piece but overall good breakfast sandwich. Next item ready 5 minutes later: Khadija's Slow Burn Harissa Hot Honey Breakfast Burrito - Really tasty. Definitely flavor packed and would order this again. *BUT there was an issue. Apparently the person that ordered before us asked for the same burrito to go...they NEVER got it and yet our order was ready. The person was pretty cool about it but they were definitely annoyed and gave us a look although it wasn't our fault. *The ordering system seems unorganized with the cashier writing orders on a slip of receipt paper and putting them on a stand by the kitchen. I wonder if the slips were out of order or fell and they skipped this persons to go order? IDK but they need a better system! We tried waiting for our coffees before starting to eat but then our food started getting cold...YOU KNOW WHY?... because the poor person that was taking orders was also in charge of making drinks. Having one person as cashier and barrista is NOT a good idea on a busy Saturday morning. It was hard for them to take a moment and focus on the drinks becuase people kept coming in an placing orders which means we waited for 20+ minutes before getting our drinks. By then our food was mostly eaten! Thankfully we noticed they had a water pitcher for free water which was a saving grace! The wait for drinks was so long that people that were already sitting when we arrived and had already eaten their food were JUST getting their drinks before us. HORRIBLE! I felt really bad for the cashier/barista :( Another turn off, there is no understanding on what to do with dirty dishes. Do we bus our table? If so where do we put it? We noticed people leaving plates by the water pitcher and cups, some put them on the long counter by the coffee area. There wasn't a garbage or compost bin, so we weren't sure where to put food scraps. There was a bin for "Plastic Only" but only the cup lids were plastic and the cup itself was paper, so where TF do you put that? We noticed a black plastic bin that someone had brought out from the back, so we placed our stuff in there but wasn't exactly sure. We tried to ask the cashier/barista but they were slammed with customers so we ccouldn't get their attention. IDK the place is just poorly organized and messy! There are tables for people to make artwork which is nice but on a busy Saturday it might have been nice to clean those areas up to allow people to sit. Sorry guys... *You need a dedicated barista! People waiting 20+ minutes for drinks is insane especially when the food comes out relatively fast. *Please clean up your restaurant. The amount of flies was gross and no one wants to swat them away from food & drinks. *Tell people if they should bus their own tables and if so.... *Make it clear where to leave plates, cups, garbage, compost etc.
