Overall, we ordered the Dungeness crab omelette, the lumberjack stack (it has pulled pork on top of pancakes!), the Oregon trail, and the hangover burger. The pancakes and pepper bacon were delicious, the Dungeness crab omelette was pretty underwhelming, and the hangover burger... I never got to try that. My growing teenager brother missed the memo about the sharing part and basically inhaled everything in minutes, so I'm assuming it was delicious! Been the nth time. One of our favorite brunch places. This last visit, I didn't like my oregan trail much. The apple sausage was cold. The eggs were well made. But plum potatoes were cold and salt less. I liked my pancakes but over all this was below what we have experienced so far. It's probably a blip in otherwise wonderful experiences we have had so far. I'm surprised I have to review this spot, but subconsciously, I may have wanted to keep it a secret. Plum's Cafe is a corner establishment with both indoor and covered patio seating. Everybody is welcomed here, which makes it a great and relaxing atmosphere. I arrived for brunch with my brother and bf, but you also have options to enjoy lunch as well. For this visit, we all got breakfast! I was a bit indecisive, but decided to go with my gut decision. It was the dungeness crab Omelet. It's listed as market price, but they certainly do not skimp on portions of chunk meat. Layered with plenty in each bite and matched with asparagus, it was a definite win. Not to mention, those potatoes were yummy. The boyfriend got the shirred eggs. Served in a cast iron skillet like an open faced sandwich, the toasted baguette is topped with garlic spinach, baked eggs, parmesan cream and a dill tomato relish. He cleared the plate, but set aside the relish since he felt it was out of place. He, too, loved the side potatoes for its crispiness. My brother opted for a sweeter option. The blueberry pancakes were topped with some orange zest, which complemented the tartness of the berries. They were also super fluffy! I'm so mad at myself for not co big to Plums sooner as I live nearby, I've passed by but never went inside. Today on my walk I decided to check it out! OMG! It's absolutely beautiful! My cup of tea ! I sat at the bar and Nikki was just wonderful and answered all my questions as I mentioned it was my first time! i hadnt planned on eating on my walk so I only had room for the Half Sandwhich and Salad and I tried the Northwest Turkey & Cranberry relish its probably one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time! Came here on a Friday noon and it wasn't as crowded as I've seen it before. That was good! I sat in the front patio and it was lovely. I had the soup of the day (salmon chowder) and it wasn't bad. If you don't mind waiting for delicious gourmet food, definitely try this place. It is very busy because the food is great and worth waiting for. I ordered the crab omelet with spinach and garlic. They charged an additional $2 for the spinach, but I prefer my omelets with lots of greens so that's fine. They served this dish with a creamy sauce on top of the omelet and topped with asparagus, with a side of perfectly made hash browns. We also tried the hazelnut and berries pancakes to share. Oh my.... The vanilla latte with almond milk was more than I imagined it would be. It was a perfect pairing with my delicious breakfast choices. However, it took a while till some one came to take our orders. Waiter and waitress were somewhat responsive when you interact with them. With so many restaurants in Orange County, it is hard to know where to go next. I happened to be over near Plums Cafe and decided it was time to check it off the list. I absolutely love this cafe. It is tucked into the corner of a strip mall off of 17th St. in Costa Mesa, but what a gem. It is bright, clean and cheery, and the service was excellent. Studying the menu, there were so many choices and everything sounded great, how to decide. I was there with a friend and we finally settled on our dishes. I went with the Oregon Peppered Ham Reuben and I still think about that sandwich and how I need to go back again. Piles of ham filled the sourdough bread and on top of the ham was gruyere cheese, caraway slaw and russian dressing. Oh so good! My BFF ordered the Vietnamese Pork and Egg Bowl. Marinated pork topped the potatoes and on top of the pork was cilantro, carrots, two perfectly cooked poached eggs and a spicy sriracha sauce. It was scrumptious. The sriracha sauce is pretty hot, so if you don't like spicy, it may be too much for you. Otherwise a beautiful and tasty dish. I brought the family here for sunday brunch. The service was great. The food presentation was magazine worthy. But the taste. Well I guess that depends on what you order. The raspberry pancakes were delicious. The omlettes and eggs were good. But after that it's a spiral abyss. Everything else was worthy of the show worst cooks in America. Also waitor was super busy so I left my table and tried to look for him. He never even asked if everthing is okay or if we need more coffee. I think each server covers too much customers.. And check out what the yelp offers. It cleary says that customers can get 10 percent off for the 100dollars. So If I am trying to buy 100 dollars they should give 10 percent so total can be 90 only. under that offer, there is another info that customers can get 10 dollars if they spend 100. So it is confusing. For me, because I don't even live here, I would like to use less money. If they don't give any discount then they must delete the 10 percent off info. Even for explaining for the gift card that U was going to use for today's visit, I do wonder why it was so hard for them to understand. They kept coming asking me it is eventually same thing but it is not. I don't know why I had to spend too much time 3 times (2times to the laday 1 time to the server) to explain for this. Finally, they charged me only 100 and I paid with that gift card and now I have a balance 40 dollars left. It they charged me 159 then I have to go there 2 or 3 times. I just don't understand why they were not issuing just 100 dollars as I asked from the first time. I said many times I don't want 159 dollars to be charged. So funny! We came here for Sunday brunch and waited around half an hour to sit down. FOOD: so originally I ordered the French toast because it sounded so good. Unfortunately it was ridiculously dry and so hard to eat. I ended up switching to the shirred eggs to switch to savory food from my usually sweet fare and I'd highly recommend! The pancakes with hazelnuts were fluffy and yummy as well! My aunt got the Dutch baby which was good but kind of a one note texture all around. My dad got a sandwich which he didn't think was anything special. SERVICE: maybe it was just one lady, but she rubbed me the wrong way. There was one waitress with white blonde hair and strong eyeliner who just gave us a hard time with everything. When I asked for some water and some cutlery she said I had to ask my own waiter, and when I asked to switch the food she gave me so much attitude! Love love love this place! The service is excellent. Everyone is always rounding and refilling our drinks, cleaning our table, etc. You can also make reservations to save waiting in line. It does get busy on weekends, but that just proves how good this place is. However 4 stars because it is pricier than other brunch places I've been to. I'm also picky about drinking freshly squeezed OJ and while this one feels like a mix of fresh and boxed OJ, I can tolerate it. Happy brunching! read more

I first went here in January 2019, and then had to wait the agonizing year and a half of COVID until I could finally return-- but, wow, that wait was worth it, as I've been several times since and still lives up to its 5-star rating. you really can't go wrong with the food here--they have nailed both sweet and savory. If you just can't figure out what you want, I say start with their Dutch baby or Shirred eggs. And never skip the bacon--the bacon is easily the best item on the menu. Also, don't sleep on the drinks as well--I absolutely adore their chai latte. Despite it being crowded every time I go, I've always been seated within a 10-15 minute window (as a party of 2). The only challenge is parking, as the lot is a bit crowded. But easily a small sacrifice for one of the best brunches in OC. read more

Came for breakfast and we had reservations so there was no wait. All the photos on Yelp made literally every dish look appealing, so our group took forever to pick food. The majority of people ended up picking stirred eggs, but I got the biscuit and gravy. The food looked fantastic. I was drooling and couldn't even wait to put hot sauce on the food before digging in. The biscuit was really good. But I like all biscuits, really, including KFC biscuits (holla!). Nonetheless, the combination of it all was really bland. Had the dish not included bacon, it would've been a combination of yummy foods, albeit incompatible texture foods. I had to put a lot of hot sauce to make it edible. Service was attentive and good, but won't be back. The prices are too high, and though you do pay for pretty food, there's nothing worthy for taste. I understand that for OC, this may be a pretty "hip" brunch spot...but it has a long way to go to compare to the LA brunch scene. read more

The shirred eggs is the best thing on the menu, it is absolutely delicious, it comes in its own skillet with crunchy potatoes, yummy sauce, a soft baguette all with baked eggs on top! Talk about amazing. The coconut french toast is also to die for, melt in your mouth, unique, but so so good. Get the brunch special which is a mimosa or Bloody Mary served with a coffee or ice tea. It included two drinks which I'm sure contributed to the cost. However we don't drink alcohol so it seemed to be a waste for us. Also disappointing was their lack of vegetarian or vegan substitutes. For a place in Orange County inspired by the Pacific Northwest, you'd think there would be meatless substitutes. Also the pre fixe menu said dessert was included. I came here with a group of 4 people around 1:30PM on a Sunday afternoon. The restaurant seemed very busy and crowded. Luckily they have the Yelp waitlist! We got on the waitlist as we were driving to the restaurant and when we got there we only had to wait 10 minutes. The parking lot was full when we arrived and empty spots were hard to find since there were a lot of 20 minute parking zones. We were warned by a server that a lot of cars do get towed in the 20 minute parking zones if you park too long, so beware! FOOD: I picked the "Your Specialty Omelet" for $16.95. You get to choose any 5 ingredients to put in your omelet. You can even choose avocado/multiple meats and there is no up charge. The meal comes with toast and potatoes. The omelet was delicious! If it didn't taste good, it'd be kind of my fault for picking the wrong ingredients :P SERVICE: Although the server was amazing and kind, I took out a star because of the service from the host. I did not see/hear it myself, but my friend that ate with me said that when she first got to the host stand, the host did not smile at all. When my friend asked if we could avoid sitting at the high tops, the host replied, "Yes... you can sit anywhere," in a disrespectful/annoyed tone. Other than that, our server was very friendly and informative. We took a while figuring out which 5 ingredients to put in our dream omelet and she patiently gave us a bunch of suggestions. The food runner was super cool as well. He saw me taking out my camera and immediately offered to take a picture of my group. He took 3 pictures and even made the effort of making sure I was happy with the pictures. Great service! It made my experience very enjoyable. OVERALL: The food was yummy and the servers were nice! Alright Nothing special. Service was adequate. Outside patio could do with a make-over. The inside decor was much better. My Hamburger was doused with sauce so no other flavours came through. The chips/French fries were horrible. I asked how they were cooked. The servicer replied they were handcut and deep fried. Must have been deep fried last week and redone that morning. My English Breakfast tea came with a teapot. At least now some USians understand that tea needs freshly boiled water to steep in rather than the water that used to sit on top of the drip coffee machine as in years past.
