It's a holiday and they apologized that they were short staffed. Didn't affect our dining....everything came out promptly. Ok. Here it is guys. We are in Savannah for a few days. We got here early and are waiting to check into our Air B&B. It lunch time. We have been traveling. We are hungry. We see a familiar tavern. That would be Poe's. We have been to the one in Charleston. We know the menu. We like their food and ambiance. Oh... did I mention the beer is always cold!! . The restaurant is right off of river street. Beautiful. They had a guy on a guitar playing Dave Mathew's (another plus, he was good but I digress) back to the food. We order a shareable. The Nachos! Phenomenal is all I can say. The chips were light and crispy... the drunken chili was made with brisket. Delish! We also got a Taver salad. We split the small and it was plenty for lunch. The wait staff was on point. Our waiter was training another and he was doing a good job. Very personable and attentive. Highly recommend. Oh. In Savanah for a event. The second night we got back to the hotel somewhat late but needed something to eat and was directed to Poe's. There were seven of us and we were directed to a table in the outdoor area. The menue is mostly sandwhices and salads. From the menue your sandwich can be beef, chicken or vegetables. Now the fun started. The waiter came and took drink orders. We all ordered soft drinks. He left and we waited. And waited. And waited. Finally two drinks arrived. Waited, two more. Waited, two more. Mine finally made an appearance. I took a sip. I had ordered a Coke Zero. Prior to retiring I worked for a company that owned one of the largest Coca Cola Bottlers in the US. I am very familiar with Coke Zero. I don't know what was in the glass but I do know that it was not Coke Zero. I put it off to the side and when I saw the waiter again I ordered a glass of water. He then took the food order. We waited. And waited. And waited. There was a theme developing. The food order started coming in bits and pieces. My Son ordered a chicken sandwich, he got a hamburger. My Wife ordered a shrimp salad sandwich with onion straws as an accompaniment. She said that the shrimp salad was fine but the onion straws were warm at best and very greasy. I tried them and they tasted like they had been sitting under a heat lamp for quite some time. My chicken Cobb salad was fine. In fact the chicken was very tasty. All and all a long and laborious evening. I cannot recommend Poe's. The service was bad and the food somewhat mediocre. There are better possibilities in the area as we have learned read more

I came here on a Saturday evening with 2 friends. We waited at the hostess stand for several minutes until we were greeted. There was some back and forth between the hostess and a waitress on where to seat us, but we were seated without a wait. It then took several minutes for our drink order to be taken. The cocktails took a little while to come to the table, so the waitress took our dinner orders. Our waitress was really friendly, but it took a long time for her to return to our table with drinks, food, the check, etc. I ordered the Rickshaw to drink and the Amontillado with the veggie burger to eat. The Rickshaw had potential to be a great cocktail, but it needed to be mellowed out by adding club soda. It was served in a small rocks glass and had too many harsh flavors. I did love the Amontillado, however, the veggie burger ended up falling apart. I had to put it down and eat it with a fork. The fries were great! The menu was laid out nicely and was easy to read. There were lots of substitutions and options available, makes it a comfortable place to eat for people with dietary restrictions. There were several other food options I was interested in, so I would return. I am hoping for a good or great experience next time instead of just so-so. PS the decor is a literature lovers dream! I wish Yelp would allow half stars, because this would be a 4.5/5 but I'd rather round up than down. Food was amazing! We both had burgers and they were soooo good! And the hand-cut fries were perfect. Great selection of beers too. Service was also great. Now the two things that would have kept me from giving it a 5... 1) We chose to sit outside on the patio and it was clear that the tables had not been wiped down as there was a layer of dirt/dust on them from overnight, and 2) they allow dogs (not service animals) on the patio which I'm generally okay with, but they shouldn't be allowed up on the chairs and eating off the tables. I know it's more on those patrons but someone should have really said something. read more

The service was however, amazing, our waitress was up for conversation and made sure we had everything we needed. Poe's has a really good selection of local draft beers. Some are from the area and others are from outside of the area. The bar was very comfortable, plenty of bar seating which we like. We ended up ordering the nachos with the chili on top which was actually pretty good, slightly messy but nachos tend to be that way. Our wait person was very friendly and kept an eye on us and was happy to give us a sample or two of something we weren't sure of. The menu was varied and had lots of choices on it so it was kind of tough to decide what we were going to eat. But we ended up having the nachos because we wanted to save room for tasting more beer. read more

I loved the artwork and how dark and cozy the building was... even the light fixture gave off a dark Poe like feeling... the food was by far my favorite thing about this place. My friend and I shared our burgers and I ended up getting the AMONTILLADO and he got the THE SLEEPER. Granted I liked his burger a little bit more than mine but both was still delicious. I love the theme, it was cute to go on Halloween weekend. We were seated really fast for a Saturday, only 10-20 mins. The servers were all really nice. I asked for extra sauce for my sandwich since all that came with it is shown in the picture which made it really good. The seasoning on the chicken was delicious. I didn't get to take any photos because we inhaled our food as soon as it came out! The burger I got was delicious, cooked at the right temperature and the fries were crispy and soft in the inside. My father in law and husband had the bun-less option. My husband ordered it thinking it was the 'healthier option' being bun-less but I have to note it came with a cheesy sauce so unless you're keto I don't recommend it. Within minutes my FIL's plate was practically licked clean and there were many comments during about how tasty it was. All in all a great experience. Went on New Year's Eve. Wanted to sit on patio in order to watch game. Initially told that might be a problem but found us a two top. About half the tables were occupied and never exceeded that. Understand they are short staffed so ok. Server eventually got to us. Ordered a couple Damn Yankee IPAs and Chips and Queso to start. Queso came lukewarm warm at best, Beers weren't what we expected, got a hazy blond. After discussing with server switched to lagers which were flat. Ordered the Beef Rue Morgue and the Chicken Amontillado , both disappointing. Understand the stress of New Year's Eve but this was a major disappointment. The highlight of our meals was the water.
