Good service from the girl behind the counter, but food pretty much sucks. Bowl was small, total came out to around $11 and I wasn't really full afterwards. You only get 2 scoops of fish for a regular, while other places usually do 3. It didn't help that the scoop sizes were miniscule. At any poké place I'll get brown rice (half half with mixed greens if they allow), 1 scoop salmon, 1 scoop tuna, maybe a scoop of spicy tuna or yellowtail, imitation crab, seaweed salad, spicy mayo, nori, and whatever other toppings they have. This is my standard. Sadly she added cucumber instead of green onion to my bowl, which I hate. I didn't want to make a fuss so I just picked them all out on my own. Fish was flavorless, rice stuck to the bowl, everything was just really bland. This is my favorite and best place to grab poke anywhere in both NorCal and SoCal. I've been to nearly all of them around the Bay Area since poke started popping up everywhere nearly 1-2 years ago, and been to a few handful in the Los Angeles and San Diego area since then as well. Nothing compares to Poke Bar - nothing except poke from Hawaii itself. It's located inside a little grocery market on Castro in downtown Mountain View. It's a little easy to miss if you're not looking for it, so look for the little popup sign on the street for Poke Bar. There's also a little statue with a chef's hat at the sliding doors (for some reason I see this first so it's become my marker for finding amazing poke haha). The number of ways to customize your bowl is incredible. Base: White rice, brown rice, salad, nacho chips (Optional) Crab salad and seaweed salad This is a free bonus add and it's delicious, why would you ever make this optional. Hard YES. Protein: - Small (2 scoops), Medium (3), Large (4). This is a large variety of options: salmon, tuna, scallop, shrimp, octopus, spicy tuna, tofu...etc. It's an impressive selection - personally, I love get get time and time again the salmon and scallop. Superb. - You can also mix and match your scoops, which means you aren't limited to 2/3/4 scoops of the same thing. Have fun with whatever your taste buds desire! - Also, the fish is always fresh, I have yet to even come close to feeling queasy from eating here (my fiance and I have had very poor experiences in other places). Extras: - This is where the additional charges come in: Choose from avocado slices ($1), mango chunks ($1) to add to your bowl, or a side of miso soup ($2). Again, optional but you'd be ridiculously out of your mind not to take advantage of this array of deliciousness. - Kale, Cucumbers, Green onions, onion, jalapeno, cilantro, corn, pineapple, edamame, roe, wasabi, pickled ginger, crispy garlic, grispy onion, mixed nuts, ogo seaweed for the current full list. - Seriously, go ham on all of this. The sky (okay, more like your bowl) is the limit, but I've gotten them to fit like 80% of all these toppings once and they just ended up rubber banding my bowl and lid shut because it was overflowing with all my gluttonous choices. At the payment area, they have a cool spinny tablet register :) Tip them well, they are the friendliest, nicest, most efficient people I've met behind a Chiptole-styled counter. (They recently powered through 4 larges for me and barely held up the line as they worked together to systemize who did what, it's super cool to watch. Sorry again, I blame my Army brother visiting town and he inhales 2 of these in one sitting). They also have Sriracha and soy sauce and forks, spoons, and chopsticks to your heart's content. They provide bags to-go at no extra charge. As for pricing - they're on the cheaper end compared to most other places. I can pay ~$12-15 dollars for a great filling meal, while other places in the Bay Area easily sets me back $18-20. Not sure if being inside a little grocery store has any impact on cost, but the location hasn't bugged me at all, there's plenty of seating inside and outside the market, and it gives it a wonderfully casual chill experience. If it keeps costs of my poke low, I ain't complaining. They are constantly improving and upgrading. Their signs have now become digital screens (so cool!). They also now offer 6 preset bowl options too in case you don't feel like customizing your poke exerience (for the rushed, uninspired, or lazy... jkjk, I just love customizing my bowl). I stumbled onto Poke Bar by accident because I thought I was ordering from Pokeworks across the street, but didn't realize it until my Doordash came. With that in mind, I think if Pokeworks was the cute, super multi-talented person in class that everyone swoons over, Poke Bar is like their okay and more emotionally-available cousin that you would sometimes mistake from behind, and it would be alriiight, but you'd prefer the other. The bowl overall was alright, but the imitation crab was dry where most other poke places would season it with kewpie mayo. I didn't try it, but it's the only place I've seen so far that offer tortilla chips as a carb. The interaction with staff is practically contactless. I chose to do half white and brown rice with 2 scoops of salmon and 1 scoop of tuna. I then chose my toppings and had it mixed with Spicy Mayo and Ponzu Sauce. My boyfriend also got a medium half white and brown rice with 1 scoop of each spicy tuna, salmon, and albacore. He had it mixed with Wasabi Mayo and Sweet Chili Sauce. So happy that a poke bar finally opened on Castro, just what Downtown Mountain View needs with all the local tech companies around! It basically works like any other poke bar where it's "chipotle-style" and you tell them what you want. It does get confusing because certain things that are free add-ons at other poke places cost extra here (like avocado and masago). I opted for the medium (3 scoops of fish) with salmon, tuna, and albacore and brown rice. You can tell them what sauce and fixings (onions, garlic, etc) you want to be tossed in the fish mix. The scoops of rice are huge so I asked for just one scoop instead of 2 and they kind of gave me a weird look and told me they usually put more rice. $11.50 for a medium is a bit steep (usually about $9 anywhere else) but 1) their fish is fresher and bigger pieces compared to other poke places and 2) it's on Castro street, so they have to make up for their rent cost. Anyways, a small bowl ($9.50) comes with 2 choices of fish and I got shrimp & spicy tuna. They were just ok. I tried my boyfriend's tuna and it was very fishy (not fresh tasting) so I dunno if I would get that next time. The salmon was better. I got the ponzu and house special sauce, drizzled with some spicy mayo. I cannot tell you what the house special sauce tastes like though because all those flavors mixed together and the spicy mayo basically overpowered everything. The bowls come with imitation crab, seaweed, edamame, cucumbers, ginger, etc. You can add peanuts, fried onion, limu (Hawaiian seaweed), and sesame seeds at the end. Please do not eat during this pandemic shut-down - their food safety is lacking and they are only concerned about their personal safety, not customers' safety! I always liked swinging by Poke Bar, but after what I experienced today, I will probably never go back. The servers are so afraid of being near people that they have forgotten basic food safety! I get it, no one wants to get COVID-19, but I also don't want to get food poisoning and risk my life or a trip to the hospital right now! I arrived at the location and there was a customer being served already, up at the glass, so I stood back away from the counter to be respectful of social distancing guidelines. He indicated I could come closer and he would move down, so I did while he slid down. Then, as I stood as close to the glass as the man had been, the serving staff got that wide-eyed panicked look. Server 1 demanded I go closer to the stranger to pick up a piece of paper and some dubious pens that were sitting out to fill out a paper order. OK, fine, not sure why the man gets to do the normal process and I have to do some paper form (while being forced to get within 2 feet of him to get the form and the possibly dirty pen), but fine. I do the form, fill it out exactly as I would verbally order in line, and go back to my 6ft+ distance-away-from-the-man spot holding the paper and pen. Server 1 then indicates I need to move closer to the man AGAIN(!!!) to give server 2 my paper. So I try to pass server 2 the paper and their pen (it's not my pen, I don't know its' origins, I don't really want to touch it more than I already had to) quickly, so I can get away from the male customer that is still there chatting with server 1. Server 2 takes the paper with the tip of her finger and doesn't take the pen! I had to say, "that's your pen" before she would take it. So now I've been next to some man I don't know multiple times instead of properly socially distanced. Furthermore, server 2 is not changing her gloves between getting the paper and making the bowl. I go back away from the man and start to watch server 2 make my bowl. She didn't put any rice on the bottom so I remind her I wanted rice and she looks panicked that I am somewhat close to the divider between the normal line and Ava's check-out line. She shakes her head at me like "I'll get you rice, but you stay far away from me!" and doesn't add any rice. OK... Next, server 2 adds the fish and the rest of the ingredients, all in the serving bowl instead of the normal mixing bowl, and squirts the tiniest amount of sauce I have ever received on the ingredients in the serving bowl. She puts a tiny drop of wasabi on the edge of the bowl. So my fish and veggies have not been mixed and my sauce and spice are non-existent, great. On the plus side, she hasn't used the dirty gloves to mix the ingredients, so I guess small blessings? But then, the truly unsafe food handling really started! Server 2 goes back to the rice cooker, opens it up, and steam is rolling off the rice. She puts the rice right next to the raw fish in my bowl and then server 1 puts a lid on my bowl! I had moved near the exit door but still distant from the cash-register so not to crowd anyone as it was clear I was not welcome to be near the food line at all, but even from that distance (10+ ft away), I could see the steam rapidly rising from the rice in my bowl. I have never seen rice steaming so much - let alone had that hot and steamy rice put next to raw fish and then closed to steam my raw fish! I paid while both servers tried to stay as far away from me as possible with sheer panic in their eyes and they tried to rush me out of the place without offering any plastic-wear or napkins. They made me sign with my finger on the iPad, rather than offering to sign themselves like most places are right now. I took the bowl out to my husband, took the lid off, and panicked as my $20 of poke was about to be ruined due to being half-steamed fish! We found someplace tucked away and socially distant to eat the food before it was ruined (I was about to throw the bowl out I was so concerned about food safety), but it was a horrible experience. I will not return to this location during this pandemic at all, as the servers do not understand basic food safety (not putting hot next to cold) and are more concerned about the risk to themselves of customers coming in than the risk to customers of food-borne illness from the food they prep. This location should stay closed through the pandemic rather than be open under these unsafe conditions, as it does not help anything to send people to the hospital for food-borne illness! read more

Hidden inside a crowded grocery store on a busy street in Mountain View, Poke Bar is just what you can expect for a poke place. They have some set combinations or you can make your own- this is what I chose to do. Honestly, the food here was filling but very average I don't really remember anything that stands out. The price is kind of steep. The service was fast but my order got mixed up with someone else. They were so close to finishing but they lost track and put someone else's spicy sauce on mine. :( I would've been complacent but I really don't enjoy spicy. So I had to anxiously go through the whole order process super quickly to not hold up the line. People make mistakes and I'm not docking off stars because of the service. The Poke Bar is back open! The selection is the same. I got old order, which is the salmon poke on salad mix. In my pic I have mango added. Still yummy. Ordering is a little different now but easy. You pick up a clip board, step outside to check off what you want on your Poké. You drop the check list off at the register and put the used pencil in the used bin. You are called when the Poké is ready. My daughter wrote extra sauce in the margin and they remembered. It's a good system for ordering that maintains physical distancing. read more

My dad and I got a medium ($11.50; 3 scoops) size bowl. It comes with seaweed salad and imitation crab meat. The rice isn't sushi rice nor is it jasmine. I didn't like the rice that much. The fish choices I got were salmon, tuna, albacore. They mix it poke style with sauces (house sauce I got) and I had the fried onion, fried garlic, kale, edamame, green onions, and roe added. I love fresh fish and Poke bowls always hit the spot for me. This is my go to spot and Sundays special treat for myself. I will splurge on this place only once a month but it's always worth it. @PokeBar is a restaurant located inside a Supermarket and always has the freshest ingredient. I get the large, which includes four scoops of protein and with all the fixings. The bowl is huge and generous, they will always fill it up. I used my Samsung Note 20 Ultra as a guide to how big the bowl is. I can get two meals out of it. If you like, they have pre set bowls to select from but I like to build my own. I literally will put everything they off in it. Since they are located inside a Supermarket, they always have the best and freshest ingredients available. The fish is always good and I'd never stinky. I always get the Miso soup for an added $1. It is a little pricey, after tax and tip it will come out to $18 but I keep coming back to this place because it's so good. my cousin was visiting the bay area and was in the mood for a poke bowl. where she lives, in a smaller east coast city, it's very difficult to get poke or raw fish, so i made sure to take care of her on that request, esp since we have a plethora of awesome raw fish joints (sushi, sashimi, poke) in the bay area. i brought her to downtown mountain view, since we could have lunch and stroll castro street after. this place had gotten solid reviews and marks from fellow yelpers, and was also on my to-try list. the poke bar is actually inside of ava's downtown market, in the front part of the market. so we could potentially eat and buy groceries after, or vice versa. we both opted for the small poke bowls ($10.25) which came with: +base: white/brown rice, spring mix, or nachos +2 scoops of protein: tuna, salmon, albacore, spicy tuna, octopus, shrimp, scallop, tofu +unlimited mix-ins: sweet onions, cucumber, green onion, cilantro, jalapeno, corn, kale, edamame, pineapple +choice of sauce: house dressing, ponzu, wasabi mix, spicy mix, sweet chili +toppings: crispy garlic, crispy onions, mixed nuts, ogo, ginger, wasab). +premium toppings: avocado and mango, for extra $1 each my cousin chose mainly spicy ingredients since she loves spicy food and has a tolerance for heat. as for me, the spice wimp, i chose "mild" ingredients; starting with a base of spring mix, and adding salmon and tuna for my protein, topping it with cucumber, green onions, kale, edamame, crabmeat, and house dressing on the side. both of our meals were placed into plastic to-go boxes, we paid, and sat down in their small dining area, which was shared between the poke bar and another deli counter. even though the box appeared small, there was a lot of food stuffed into this rectangular space! i did feel like i was able to eat for quite some time, enjoying my fresh fish, veggies, and mixed greens. my cousin said that the fish was very fresh and the box was packed so well that she couldn't even finish! better to be given a bit too much than not enough! we enjoyed our meal at poke bar and a nice stroll along castro street after. i would definitely return to this poke cafe and try some of the other fish offerings on their menu! read more

Almost walked past the Poke Bar because I thought it would be a stand-alone restaurant but it's actually a counter in a supermarket. I got the medium bowl for $11.50+tax&tip. The medium bowl comes with 3 scoops of fish, which you can mix and match over a bed of white or brown rice. I opted for 2 scoops of salmon and 1 scoop of tuna. You can add choose add-ons like edamame, cucumber, corn, and green onions, and wasabe. It also comes with a side seaweed salad. Just for kicks, I asked if I could have a little bit more of the salad (but not cuz they were being stingy with the portions, I'm just partial to seaweed salad) and they were more than happy to give me a little extra on my bowl without extra charge. I was superrrrr full afterwards so it's pretty good bang for your buck. Obviously not as flavorful and as fresh as the poke in Hawaii, but it's good enough for those who just want to get their poke fix. Worth a stop if you're in the area! read more
