I waited a total of 30 minutes in line from entering the building to leaving. The counter service was slow because there were so many people. The guy at the register processed a few take out orders in front of me when I am standing there waiting to pay for my food. This was the worst poke place that I have been to. I called to place an order for pickup and was told I could only order online. So I went onto the site, ordered and paid for my four bowls. I placed the order 40 mins in advance and when I get there the order has not been made. The place is empty so I know they weren't busy doing other orders. The guy gives me an empty "sorry" then as slow as possible starts making my orders. Their machine cut off the order receipt so he only makes me 3/4 bowls. I tell him that I also had a fourth and he questioned me as if he didn't believe me. After standing there for another minute he looks at his female co worker and she exclaims"just make it!" I do like the food here but the last incident I had here DEFINATELY ruined my lunch. I also had an incident where I ordered through door dash and they didn't add the sauce. Not even to the side. this is my regular neighborhood stop for poke and taste is fine, portion size good and the price fair. it is not nearly as flavorful as many of the other places like sweetfin, but it won't disappoint. my biggest issue with this restaurant is the way that it is run. it already closes early at 8pm, but most nights they close up and lock the door well before that because the staff just wants to call it a night. they also frequently run out of food during the evenings so you are forced to choose amoungst even fewer options at their already limited menu. in summary, this place will do for a quick poke bowl, but with a little more effort, you can do much better and with less hassle. read more

Waiting a reply, email sent September 24th, 2018 Hello Poke Bar El Segundo, I am composing this e-mail which is to serve as formal documentation of the incident suffered in your store, today September 24 from approximately 2:00p.m.-2:25p.m. Upon arrival to your locale with my colleague ready to enjoy my break, I ordered my meal, selecting each item and watching the server scoop the items onto my plate. I proceeded along the assembly line until I arrived at the register to pay. I sat down, with my chopsticks, began eating and approximately 4 bites in I noticed a strange non-edible item in my food. I proceed to pluck it out and to my dismay, it was a long piece of metal just cooked into my food! I set it on the table not really knowing what to do with it. My colleague wisely suggested that I approach the staff working as I simply was in shock! 3-4 minutes after locating the foreign object I approach the counter and asked a staff member to please come over when she had a moment, as I did not want to cause a scene and much less scare away the other patrons. A staff member came over, saw the item in horror, and apologized profusely for the incident. She herself could not believe it and was trying to explain to me where it could've come from. After not really offering a concrete derivation, she kindly offered to give me a stamp voucher for a future meal redemption. Nonetheless, I was unsatisfied and asked to speak to the manager. It was explained that the manager was not in today and so I asked for an e-mail address so I could inform the acting manager of the incident. No one at the front desk had an e-mail for the manager, so the young man who rang my meal up came over with a white piece of paper and frantically noted down 2 phone numbers. The manager told me to reach out via phone call and explain what occurred. Seeing my colleague's face of shock, the young man offered to refund my meal. An offer which at that point, I could not refuse from my disbelief this was happening. The meal was refunded. As a regular patron, who works at the building across the street from you, I cannot believe this happened and would like to see what can be done to further rectify the situation. My colleagues, executives of our brand, influencer VIP guests and global visitors support our local Poke shop by choosing to go to your place of business in our attempts to enjoy our lunch breaks with your usually delicious food. We would like to continue to think of you as a reputable place of business who complies with all duties and regulations as to ensure all customers leave happy and satisfied. I am confident that you will understand my position and will do anything in your power to ensure a loyal customer doesn't walk away disappointed with evidence to Poke Bar El Segundo's detriment. I ordered a medium bowl on Postmates with double spicy tuna, albacore, rice and all the fixings. The spicy tuna is like ground meat, so I didn't get very much despite ordering two servings. The albacore is actual pieces of fish, but I only got a few pieces. And the toppings were light too.... So my bowl was mostly rice and cucumber, and I spent $17 on it. I've been to so many poke joints that really fill your bowl up with fish, so I don't think I'll be ordering from here again. read more

There's a few more options compared to the other places I've tried, like tofu and albacore. I didn't try any of those though. The fish is fresh, I even opted to try their scallops, which at poke places I usually don't because they don't look that fresh, usually kind of yellowy and weird. I decided to give another poke spot a chance during my one day stay here in Los Angeles. Looking at reviews I hesitantly decided on Poke Bar and had them deliver to my hotel. At glance, the poke bowl looked great. The protein portions are generous and the amount of rice was perfect. As a filipina girl who loves her rice I always joke around about the "food to rice ratio". You need to have enough rice to finish the meal but often you have too little or too much. The ratio here was perfect. Anyway, as I took my first bite I was very disappointed and hoped the next few bites would be much more satisfying. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I ordered the spicy mayo and crispy onions as topping, and yet it tasted so bland! I went through the bag to see if they maybe packed me a little packet of soy sauce but no luck. To make matters worse, the rice was completely inedible. It was so mushy and I had about 2 bites of the rice before I decided to just eat the bland protein. Came out looking for a Hawaiian alternative, instead found bad food and worse service. As first timers we didn't understand the menu, instead of offering help, the young lady behind the counter said "tell me when you're ready" as she walked away to the back room. During serving of the food we noticed the servers coat drop into the food as she leaned over the counter. Consider soft Hawaiian music or single instrument ukulele instead of silence, that way, patrons don't have to hear the poor decisions employees made over the weekend. During the meal, we found a piece of rubber band in our food. After bringing it to the attention of staff we were offered a pathetic excuse for why the rubber band was in the food, "things go flying" there was NO surprise or concern. We were offered another bowl, declining it, the leader said "just give them a stamp card" the woman giving orders never got to her feet whilst addressing customers. We left terribly disappointed. We didn't come in looking for a free bowl or stamp card, we came in looking for a good meal and a pleasant experience. I came here with a few coworkers. We arrived, saw a huge line, but decided to wait and give it a try. It was worth the wait, but I think we will call it in next time. The portions were great!! Lots of choices bw white rice/brown rice, tuna, spicy tuna, salmon, albacore, octopus, scallop, shrimp, tofu(lots of choices)... Plus lots of other great toppings!! Parking can be a little tough especially during lunch time. You can actually see them place everything into the plate which is awesome! Everything looks fresh, taste fresh, and leaves you felling happy! I will definitely come back. One thing they forgot to do is give me a stamp for my meal. The workers are very friendly and greeted everyone with a smile even though it was the lunch rush. The food is great. You pick a choice of rice or salad. Poke has become one of the biggest food trends as of the last year or so. I remember when I used to drive alllll the way out to Newport Beach from 626 to get my hands on some poke (Bear Flag Fish Co baby!)... but now poke shops be everywhere. Part of the fun is not having poke so easily accessible that it becomes such an ordinary meal. LOL JK like I give a f*k. Anyway, I actually don't crave/eat poke as much as I used to. I think it was a relatively new food for me back then, so it was always such a delicacy. But sure, I still crave a nice bowl of poke with rice and greens every now and then, and Poke Bar is AWESOME for that. There's a few locations around, but this one is about a mile away from my work - extra awesome. I've been here a couple of times or so to get a quick lunch and after work for some dinner. Ok, gotta be honest though. I've never technically gotten poke here lol, at least not in the traditional sense. When I go, I order the small, which comes with 2 types of seafood - and I always get the spicy tuna and shrimp. Spicy tuna isn't diced or anything, it's mashed up like the filling for spicy tuna rolls, sooooo that's not really poke. The shrimp is *cooked* and cut, which.... isn't reaaaally poke either. SO. I don't actually know what their poke is like, but I'm sure it's delicious. They actually let you sample some of the different seafood they have, like scallops, octopus, etc. I really wanted to like the octopus, but.. not a fan of theirs. I like start my bowl with half rice and half greens, which makes for a nice balance I think. Depending on the size, you can choose a whole bunch of different seafoods on your bowl, so go nuts. Then they toss your seafood with the dressing(s) of your choice (I like spicy mayo). The toppings and mix-ins is where it gets REALLY fun. It's basically unlimited, and you can make a bunch of different combos for your bowl. I like to get corn, green onions, cilantro, etc. etc. etc., top it off with masago, a TON of crispy onions and crispy garlic, furikake, with a side of seaweed salad and imitation crab. It's actually a pretty good amount of food for a small - which is around $10ish if I remember correctly. SO WORTH IT! Now that I'm talkin about this I'm kinda craving it. I love the make-your-own bowl options, but I wish they had a carb-less one besides just lettuce (to me that's why sweetfin poke is still #1). They have all different kinds of seafood to choose from, including octopus and scallops. I made a 50/50 ahi tuna and scallops and was NOT a fan of the scallops (too fishy). Really generous portions, though, and tasty despite the scallops. It takes some thinking though for the first time going especially if you're not sure what sauces would go well with what fish. You first choose your rice or salad, then your fish option which you pay for the # of scoops you want. They have tuna, salmon, albacore, octopus, cooked shrimp, scallops, and tofu for those random veggies who come here for some reason I don't understand. Then you add your sauce (I just got their house poke sauce since it's mild), other veg add-ons, and any additional sides for extra $ (which I got seaweed salad). I had white rice, greens, salmon, and spicy tuna. The greens were fresh, the rice was a little old and dry, the salmon was a little fishy, and the spicy tuna was very bland. Also tried the salmon and tuna here but the quality was probably that of fish you buy at Ralph's. Everything is given in really small portions so it's probably not worth it to get add ons. I have been on the hunt for a poke place similar to Poke Me in Westwood. Then, I found Poke Bar! I really love all the options to make the perfect one bowl concoction. I like to mix the salad and brown rice, two scoops of fish (small size bowl), and load up on the veggies. I liked the Spicy Tuna and the Salmon. Shoyu and their house sauce all over, seaweed salad, cucumbers, avocado, masago, and green onions. Maybe some crispy onions too, why not. But listen, the people working here are happy and friendly and make the experience that much better - plus they dig the food as much as the customer. I loaded up on the sesame seeds and nori while he was ringing me up. They use a tablet so it makes paying with a credit card very easy! The Poke Bar is exactly as the name states, a Poke Bar, which doesn't scream outstanding, doesn't scream amazeballs, doesn't scream anything fantastically irresistible about this place. Unfortunately, there's not much to Poke now a days, so it's pretty difficult to stand out among the crowds, and Poke Bar just simply doesn't. Their sauces are very typical of every other Poke joint out there, their fish is good, just like every other joint out there, and they pretty much offer you everything and anything all other Poke places offer. So if you're craving decent priced Poke, try this place out. It'll hit the spot, but not leave you speechless. The service is alright, the people are nice, the place is clean. (Totally customizable ). However, I give this place 4 stars because I think they do not give you enough food for the price. Even their medium size is not enough Poke vs "jus Poke's" small. I love the Hermosa beach location, and the food is always fantastic. However this was my first time at this location and the service was horrid. I ordered online and was there to pick it up five minutes early and was greeted with "YOU ARE EARLY!" and nothing else. Sat and waited for the food to be made. Not a big deal at all I was early. When I got to the car I realized the order was wrong and had to back inside and wait for it to be remade. The foods good, but not good enough for this kind of terrible service.
