I got a combination of tuna and chicken in mine with a bunch of veggies and wow, what a treat! I had to use a spicy sauce of course, and yum, so much heat! There were six of us, so we kind of had to squeeze into a table by the window, but it worked. The stools are bolted down, so you just have to work what they have, no moving things around haha. A great lunch spot if you're into seafood, located on the busy Fulton street. Stopped by for their "crack rice" which is basically deep fried sushi rice topped with whatever seafood you want. I ended up getting the spicy tuna which had a very weird look to it as if it came out of a tube lol but it tasted good (but not GREAT). I don't have a problem with the quality of the food but more so the price point ($14 for 6 pieces). Not something I'd get on the regular but a great snack here & there. Usually have 2 servers in the front with quick service, not necessarily friendly, seemed distracted but was still quick and knew what the sauces consistent of. There's a good amount of seating on the first floor with simple interior, not really any decors. I got the snack bowl for $10.45 (before tips and tax) with one protein. And was able to put almost any toppings in with the bowl packed in the end. It's a pretty small bowl but it's got a good amount leaving me full. I think the place has pretty high variance, but overall I like the large array of toppings available with some interesting pairings like wasabi peas and kimchi. ***3 1/2 stars*** This is a bit of an overdue review, as Poke Bowl is right next to where I work and I've frequented it a solid handful of times now. Poke Bowl always has a line of varying length when I walk by at lunchtime but the wait is never too long - they've got a good assembly line system and workers who are on their toes; any delays are caused by over-deliberating customers. And the fact that the lines exist in the first place reflects the overall high opinion that the local workplace crowd has of it - there are plenty of similar fast casual eateries nearby that are always emptier than this. I had a busy day at work yesterday so this was a good, quick option to grab a bite before heading back into the trenches. I was pretty hungry, so I opted for the three-protein bowl ($15.95) with white rice, salmon as my protein for all three choices, avocado (which is an extra $1.00), and finished it off with the chipotle aioli sauce and a smattering of tempura flakes and rice puffs. Based on what I've seen from other customers in line, this is a super simplistic order (I usually see a mild look of relief from the employees when they realize they don't have to spend a few extra minutes meticulously adding ingredient after ingredient). They have TONS of other toppings to choose from at no additional cost, but I don't need too much action with these types of bowls. The bowl itself is pretty tasty - it does the job. A few times I thought they went a little too heavy on the aioli (which makes me have to blow my nose and then give a reassuring look to fellow patrons that I don't have COVID. Always fun in NYC.), but that's ultimately on me to manage them a bit better, and I have made strides in that area. The salmon and avocado are usually very fresh. Every great once in a while the avocado looks a LITTLE brown but nothing egregious and certainly not discernable to the palate, and I've seen maybe three or four fatty/stringy pieces of salmon the entire time I've been frequenting this place. That honestly might not be avoidable (I don't know what goes into the extensive prep of a poke bowl place when it comes to their fish) and again, it's not typical. My biggest qualm with Poke Bowl is the price. It should say something that, in a city and even a specific neighborhood that's known for being expensive, multiple reviews have mentioned the cost. Even taking into account the inflationary drama going on right now, this bowl is about $5 too expensive. I used to get the exact same bowl/quality in Jersey City for about $12. The price structure with the proteins is prohibitive, in my opinion. I'm not looking to massively binge-eat at lunch (I'd guess on average I'm trying to consume about 700 calories or so to get me through the day with minimal naughtiness), but the one- and two-protein bowl options are just not very generous - you're almost forced to go with the most expensive option to avoid having to go somewhere else for a little more sustenance. The other issue (and it seems to be universal with poke establishments) is the added cost of avocado. It's a superfood, takes a little more effort to peel and cut - I get it. But I don't understand why a sushi restaurant doesn't charge extra for the inclusion of avocados in their rolls but poke bowl establishments do. Regardless, it means that a visit to Poke Bowl is always going to be about $20, which is just too much for a normal lunch that's not a formal sit-down experience with wait service. Poke Bowl is reliable and consistent, and as an aside, every person behind the counter has been friendly and accommodating. In a pinch, it's a convenient stop to grab lunch when you have no other plans and your stomach is grumbling. But based on the price point, unfortunately it's not a place I can justify going to more than two or three times a month. read more
