This place nailed it for me. I had the "Aloha Combo" with "fresh ginger poke" and "kalua pork" (comes with a side of rice). This absolutely hit the spot. It was a little piece of surf & turf heaven. The ginger poke was flavorful, and fresh as could be. The poke was diced in nearly identical cubes. It was perfect. The kahlua pork was tasty and was complimented nicely by the poke, especially when paired in the same mouthful. The rice was sticky, and topped with a dash of seaweed. Perfect. Oh, and the seating is plentiful, there about 8 chairs to dine-in. My food came out within minutes. They also let you sample before you choose... AWESOME! This place is in a neighborhood that offers a plethora of diverse eating options. You can get all types of food here, and this place stands out to me. Probably one of the best Poke places around LA in terms of taste and affordability. This location is small and intimate but gets the job done. It has a bar table that can fit up to 7-9 people. Have been a regular here and the staff is always welcoming and friendly. They usually give you a chance to try samples of the different Poke flavors. I usually get the Aloha plate w/ Spicy mayo and for the price, it's hard to beat. They give you a decent amount of Poke with rice and the pork strips and the taste is really fresh and filling. This was my first time here I ordered an Aloha plate with the Spicy Mayo poke. The pork was way too salty and the poke.... Well let's just say the toilet and I became good friends after eating the poke. Hands down, best poke in town. I've had three of their pokes: ginger, Limu, and Sweet and Spicy. While all of them are great, Sweet and Spicy Poke is just out of this world heavenly. The marinade is the perfect blend of its name sake and complements the fish so well. Perhaps the most interesting part about this particular poke is that it tastes...homemade: you know, that comfort, that warmth, that little something that makes food so special when it's made at home as opposed to eating out. We came in on a Saturday afternoon to pick up a couple of plate lunches. We ordered the Ohana and Lau Lau plate with ahi limu and shoyu poke. No mac salad included on the plate lunches so we ordered a side of it. It was the last one in the display and the guy noticed it was a bit dry and insisted he add more mayo. It turned out he just added a dollop to the container which didn't look appetizing but was better since we could mix how much we wanted. The ahi limu poke was good, the closest to traditional poke. The lau lau, kalua pork and shoyu chicken all tasted good too. The shoyu chicken was the big surprise for me because I expected more shoyu flavor but it tasted more like the herbs/spices used with char siu pork. I enjoyed the flavor but if you're looking for the traditional shoyu chicken, you need to go elsewhere. I always made fun of my brother for being such a traditionalist. No matter how good the meats/poke/mac salad was in a plate lunch, if you didn't get two scoops of rice, you wouldn't get his approval. This time, I wholeheartedly agree. With this plate lunch, I was dying for a second scoop of rice. There's just too much salty protein to make it through with only one scoop. No scoop of mac salad included? No second scoop of rice? Any place that does a lau lau/poke combination plate, I'll return. Doesn't matter if it's very good. As long as it doesn't kill me, I'm going to keep getting the lau lau/poke combination. First of all, I LOVE poke, and second of all lau lau is super hard to find. Something about an embargo on ti or taro leaves? That's what an owner of a Hawaiian restaurant in Huntington Beach told me once, anyway. Even if there wasn't that problem, there's that whole backlash about butterfish being the laxative of fish, and that's the kind of fish used in lau lau. It may be the laxative of fish - it hasn't affected me that way, but even if it did, I'd probably still eat lau lau. Poke Etc is a small stand in the back of a somehow even smaller grocery store. They've got a large variety of poke to go by the pound - wasabi, kimchi, original, oyster sauce - and a small menu to go along with it. I ordered the you-know-what-by-now with original poke, plus an extra half pound of wasabi poke to go. I found the lau lau to be fair - the pork was tender if a little bland, and there was plenty of the edible leaf. There wasn't enough butterfish, which would have been a bigger deal had the meat been tough. The fattiness of the butterfish always helps soften meat. I found the poke to be fair as well. The creativity of the flavors was better than the fish itself, which was fresh but excessively sinewy. I do look forward to trying their other styles, as both styles I had yielded vastly different taste experiences. The rice, by the way, is awesome and covered in furikake! read more

Hands down, the best Hawaiian-style poke that Southern California has to offer! And they got tons of it. Limu, ginger, wasabi, soy sauce in ahi tuna, salmon, mussels, and octopus style poke. It's already been pre-made so it's had a chance to soak up ALL the flavors of its marinade. All you gotta do is eat it with rice, or by itself! And you can take tubs of it home! Not much of a Poke expert but I thought this place was really good! The only other spot I've tried is Jus Poke in Redondo, but I have to say this is just as good and without the huge line! Location is kind of hard to find, it's in the back of a store in a little plaza. There's no seating so you'll have to take it to go. Prices are unbeatable. Poke and rice will run you about $8. They have a pretty decent variety as well. The workers were nice and offered samples of the different poke to try, but I didn't bother and stuck with my favorite, spicy with mayo. Stick to cash or debit cause they charge extra for credit cards. Definitely worth it and will be back more often since it's just down the street from my house. read more

Show me the POKE!! Yes, it's hard to find a place to get poke around here, so when my friend Carissa U. recommended this place, I was soon itching to give this place a try. It's located in a store in the plaza, but there's a big sign outside the store that says "POKE ETC", so you shouldn't really miss it. Their poke is good. Not the best, but definitely good enough for a poke fix when every other place is so far away from me. They have different varieties. I stuck with the staple Ahi Limu. They also have Tako, spicy tuna with or without mayo, and other varieties. So why the 3 stars? Because their signage was all wrong. If I was a newb at poke, I would've been so confused! There were signs of spicy tuna, spicy tuna w/ mayo, tako, ahi limu, etc etc etc ... but most items were not under the correct sign. Poke etc is my favorite poke shop in all of LA and that's a lot to say because I have been to more than 15 poke places in LA. I can't believe I haven't reviewed them after all this time. Poke Etc is one of the 2 places I know of that offers authentic Hawaiian style poke that's actually good. The other place is Jus' Poke in Redondo Beach. They don't do tiny scoops of fish but giant chunks of tuna. All the fish is also pre-marinated in their sauce so the poke is super flavorful. You can get your poke by the pound or with rice. The rice bowl comes with just rice, poke, and furikake (seaweed sesame flakes for the rice) and nothing else. I think that the poke by the pound is a better deal. They charge about $14 per pound, which is a great deal compared to their other places. They used to be in the back of another store but opened their own store a few doors down in the same plaza. Very good poke served by the most adorable, little Filipino lady. She's like a plush doll, I just want to squeeze her. I highly recommend the Ahi Limu poke. Yay! Happy to have found a good poke spot close to school. I was in for a long day and didn't have time to pack dinner and Yelp led me here. The shop is very small with only a couple of bar seats but the poke is delicious. The poke served here is pre-marinated (not made to order/Chipotle style) and can be served al la carte, with rice, brown rice, or salad. I had the wasabi poke with brown rice and the serving was GENEROUS. The wasabi poke was good; nice cuts of tuna with a nice sharp wasabi taste to it but next time I will request only a half order of this flavor as it started making me cry after a while. I am giving this place 2 stars instead of 4 because we got really really dry, old rice. I came here Sunday afternoon with a group of 8. I dragged them all here from Cerritos bc I heard good things about them on yelp. Poke was good. They give you samples with a smile. But since there is no seating in the restaurant, we didn't realize our rice was all old until we sat down to eat after driving to a nearby park to sit down. I was very disappointed in their rice which ruined many of our experiences. It was old and hard. Like it was left out to dry uncovered. This warrants minus two stars bc when you're eating poke, all it is is rice and fish. You can't really have bad rice and still enjoy your meal. Spicy tuna was not very spicy but it was good. When you go into Angelito's Market they invite you to try any and all. $6.50 for a half pound $12.?? for a pound My only negative was the size of the chunks.
