I've been coming to this place for about six years (ever since they closed Pokémom next to Cinemark Downey), and I truly love it. It's a very casual spot, and while it's usually not too busy for dine-in, there can sometimes be a wait to order. I always get the poke bowls, which I rate 5/5 in both quality and quantity. However, I wouldn't recommend the kids' meals--I've ordered the shrimp & chips and the popcorn chicken & chips for my daughter on separate occasions, and both times, the shrimp and chicken were over-fried, making them hard and overcooked. The fries were also stale and cold. My sister, unfortunately, has had a different issue--on multiple occasions, she's found an employee's hair in her poke bowl. I've noticed that none of the staff ever wear hairnets, which is concerning. Personally, I've never had this happen, and I love the poke here far too much to stop coming--but my sister can't say the same. That being said, every time I've called about an issue, the staff has been very nice and accommodating. I always made sure to take pictures just in case they thought it was our hair, but they handled it well. Overall, I still highly recommend the poke bowls, but I hope they improve their food handling and kids' meal quality. read more

Food is honestly really good, which makes this review even more disappointing. The customer service was terrible. While my bowl was being made, I felt completely rushed--even though the place was empty. The employee was asking what I wanted super fast and had an attitude every time I added something, like she didn't want to be there. I get it--it was a Sunday, and who really wants to work on a Sunday--but her attitude was way too noticeable and it clearly showed she didn't want to be there. I don't know her name, but I've been here quite a few times and this was my first time seeing her working there. She was a light-skinned girl who helped me out. I tried to brush it off, but it got worse. I ordered a drink, she charged me for it, took my money, and then just walked away without giving it to me or saying anything. It was confusing and unprofessional. Instead of apologizing, she laughed. This review is strictly about the service because the food itself is solid. I really truly wanted to like this poke spot, but this is the 2nd time I've been here and I hate to say it... I won't be back. My 2 main concerns are lack of friendliness and lack of flavor. 1: lack of service: when it comes to a customer feeling valued, the #1 focus should be customer service and being greeted with a smile. Even if the food is mediocre, at least keep your customers coming back due to quality of service they are being given. the workers were attentive, but upon entry their faces looked as if they had to be there. There were zero smiles, zero genuine welcomes, just alot of staff on duty with blank looks as if they can't wait to leave. Their voices were very monotone and did not convince me that I was making the right choice by choosing Poke 2 grill. In fact, I wanted to leave bc there are better places that a single person can spend $20 on lunch. 2: the poke was just simply bland. The sauces tasted very thin and very flavorless. I added citrus and cilantro sauces to the dish which you would think would give it flavor, no. It literally had zero flavor. Ponzu usually has a zing to it. The spicy mayo was lacking in the classic togarashi Seasoning and had no spice at all. My poke tasted just like raw fish and vegetables. The brown rice tasted like instant and not fresh at all. It was lacking in moisture and was not hot at all. To conclude: I was kind of bothered by them not accepting my $100 cash bill since there is no policy on the door or in the building stating they do not accept bills smaller than a $100 only. I do believe that should be required on the door for customers to read since that was the payment of which I wanted to use. I wish I could say positive things about this place, I just can't, other than the decor is nice. Unfortunately, that only goes so far in such an economic state and competitive world. As a person who has worked in the hospitality industry for over 28 years and was a manager for the #1 rated upscale casual dining restaurant in the United States for 17 years opening 8 locations, I do believe my opinion is valid. I now am a business owner for a business that is highly customer based as well, so I understand of creating an environment where the customer feels welcomed and valued. It's unfortunate that this was my favorite poke place in Downey and that I'm writing this negative review. We usually would place an online order and pick up. Which was what we did today, through Clorder which also states that it is the preferred way to order by the business. We go to pick up our food and to our surprise is not ready. We are told by the staff that they no longer take online orders, but there was nothing that stated otherwise. How were we supposed to know?? We asked to speak with the manager, who was not physically in the store and she told us we had to get back the money ourselves. If there is options to order online, and they don't take online orders, how is that our problem?? She also mentioned they owe the restaurant a lot of money but again not our problem. The owners/management should've went through every channel to ensure that you could not order online. They should've made the food and swallowed the cost. None of this is the customers issue and all of the restaurants issue. We're out $78 bucks and have to figure out on our own to get the money back. We found the customer service number and it's just a voicemail. So might just have to dispute it through the bank. All in all, poor customer service for loyal customers that have been going here for years. read more

I normally order a medium but ask for it in a large bowl so I can get more toppings. I definitely recommend it. I love that the fish is fresh. I love poke bowls but this place was the worst I've had. Ordered a medium bowl through yelp and asked for classic spicy sauce and ponzu and my bowl seemed like it had ZERO sauce on it. To the point that I called them and asked if they forgot the sauce. The person on the phone said they made my bowl and that the sauces are clear sauces but she did put them on. I definitely didn't taste anything so not sure if they just put that little sauce or if they're just no flavor in the sauces whatsoever but I'm definitely not going back here. The portions have become insultingly small and very inconsistent depending who is serving you. If you're lucky, you will get one that gives us a decent amount of food.
