Far exceeded my expectations. Was in the neighborhood to grab a cuppa at Groovy Goose, but saw this place across the street and couldn't resist checking it out. It is still take-out only, but there are 2-3 patio tables outside that I believe may be shared with the Starbucks next door. I ordered a large bowl (five scoops, I believe?) of four salmon and one mix salmon (mixed with slaw) scoops. They PACK those toppings, and the fish tasted super fresh. It's definitely closer to the Hawaiian poke I've eaten on O'ahu (more fish, less rice). For the amount of free toppings they offer and their portion sizes I think the price is more than fair. A medium custom bowl is $18 with 3 choices of protein. Their online menu is easy. Base is white or brown rice or spring mix. Your protein choices are standard. Their marinated fish selection is: maki salmon, which is kind of a citrus aioli, house ahi tuna, and spicy ahi. I went with their house sauce which is soy sauce based. You get a scoop of crab salad. Then you choose your toppings and I got: peppers, masago, mango, pickled radish, marinated edamame, and tofu medley. Then finished with a drizzle of extra spicy sauce and sprinkles of: crispy onions, garlic furikake, shredded Nori, crispy tempura, hot Cheetos, bubu arare (which is like rice crackers), and togarashi Service was really prompt. Before Poke'd Out arrived, my boyfriend and I used to venture to either San Mateo or Redwood City for poke so I was pleasantly surprised when I did a quick "poke" search on Yelp and this place popped up. There's no real spot to sit at. Once you arrived, you'll see the counter and register and that's it. Take it to go. Their options are pretty standard although they didn't have yellowtail as an option. I did appreciate their crab salad being no extra charge. They also have a good amount of toppings available. Came here on the Wednesday early evening close to 6:30PM. I was looking for a newer spot to check out and this was one of the first options that popped up. Overall, for someone who lives close by and wants poke, this is a great option. Conveniently nestled in the eatery area of San Carlos, people don't have to drive out to other cities to get their poke fix anymore. Be warned, it is a bit pricier than other poke places I've been to. We ordered a Large and a Medium (4 and 3 scoops respectfully). 4 scoops costed almost $20. I don't know about ya'll but for me, this price range was a little steep compared to other places. The crab salad is included with no extra charge, which was nice. But seaweed salad for extra $2? I was about to order it but once I saw the charge, I said forget it. This is the first place that has ever charged extra for seaweed salad in my experience. Now don't get me wrong, the food tasted good. Everything tasted fresh to me and there was not bad aftertaste of any sort. They packed quite a bit of rice in the bowl so one will feel full quite quickly. Service-wise, nothing really noteworthy to mention, although the staff wasn't smiling when I was there. The place is clean and looks very modern. There aren't places to sit though so it's more of a grab your food and go type of situation. I like the food and the cleanliness. It's very convenient for San Carlos residents. However, it's not the best bang for your buck and therefore, I probably won't drop by again anytime soon. read more

I was in San Carlos on 3/16 on personal business and was hungry since it was lunch time. The Carltrains personnel recommend this restaurant called Poke'd Out Fish Bar on Laurel street around the corner from Starbuck's. This place is awesome with fresh sashimi like tuna, salmon & CA crab. The sauce and the side corn, green onions & tofu are amazing and it is freshest I have ever tasted & I tasted lots of food court sushi place. This is top notch and in a class by itself. I love sashimi and I would rated this A+. You need to try it and you will come back time after time. There are table with chairs outside so you can enjoy your meal. By the way, a small bowl is huge and it was very fulfilling. My compliments to this place, it is stellar. Thank you to Poke'd Out, best meal ever. Keep up the great job. Stopped by to pick up a couple of poke bowls after shopping at the farmer's market last Sunday. My husband got the California bowl and I got the vegan bowl with soicy aioli, miso sesame and citrus sauces. He actually liked the vegan bowl more than the California! My only complaint is that the person at the counter didn't seem to understand that I only wanted vegan toppings in the vegan bowl and I had to repeatedly check and stop him from adding seafood to it. So it's not very vegetarian-friendly in terms of service. read more

Poke'd Out is a pretty decent poke bowl place, and it's in a convenient location on Laurel St. near San Carlos Ave. But, it's on the pricey side, even by Bay Area poke bowl standards, and it's not quite as good as other local poke options. Poke'd Out has a variety of fish/protein options for their bowls, including the local standards of salmon and tuna, and their fish is typically decent in quality and texture. They even have tako (octopus) as an option, which is unusual to find here on the mainland. That said, their octopus has tended to be a bit too chewy when I've had it, which makes it less appealing than the fish. They don't give as much fish per bowl as other places, with their ~$20 largest size having 4 scoops, so it's a bummer to have one option not be as worth it. They have a good variety of sauces and toppings for their bowls, and I like that they have takuan (a sweet Japanese pickled radish) as an option. While I don't enjoy having it in my poke bowls, I find it entertaining that their toppings also include Hot Cheetos. The restaurant itself is just the counter with a little bit of waiting room, but there are some tables outside usually. (I'm not sure, though, how many of those tables are for Starbucks or House of Bagels.) They offer utensils if you need them, so eating there if you want is doable without bringing your own. read more

I've been here 4-5 times and it's one of my favorite poke spots in the bay. A lot of places that I've been are always so stingy with sauce but they place is very generous with their sauces. My favorite is their unagi spicy mayo and their house poke sauce. The service is always good and we always get our poke bowls done pretty quickly. Everything tasted fresh, and the spicy ahi was no where close to being too hot. For the protein, you can choose between plain fish and fish premixed with a few different sauces. The tofu was mixed with seaweed and sliced shiitake mushrooms, which was nice and something I hadn't seen before at other poke places.
