Every time I've stopped by, it's been a great experience. The fish is always incredibly fresh, and they have a great selection to choose from. The prices are also very fair, especially for the quality you get. I also love that they have Spam musubis on the menu because sometimes you just need one on the side, and the decor is so cute! I love the adorable little cat decorations placed throughout the restaurant. The customer service really stood out during my visit today. The gentleman helping me was running the shop on his own, but you'd never know it. He kept the line moving efficiently while still taking the time to be friendly, patient, and attentive with every customer. Poki Cat is a small poke bowl based restaurant off Alicia Parkway near Jeronimo in Mission Viejo. I had high hopes for this place as most of the stuff in this area is pizza and taco related, but unfortunately was left incredibly disappointed and maybe even a little disturbed. In terms of the presentation of the restaurant, it is not very clean. Especially when you're dealing with raw and fresh fish, you are hoping to have a clean environment to eat in. Tables are not cleaned off frequently or well, and the floor has all of those sticky, strange spots where something wet happened to it and it didn't get washed. The drink station as well was very untidy. When you go to throw away your food, there are two open air garbage pails next to a plastic bus bin sitting next to the drink station, which cannot possibly be up to health standards. The food is where my "disturbing" statement is made. To start, I am gluten-free and was told they have gluten-free sauces. What they actually have is tamari soy sauce, chili oil, and spicy mayo. All of the other specialty sauces are gluten. That's fine if the food was incredible. Unfortunately, the bowl I had included shrimp and ahi tuna as well as a number of vegetables and sushi rice. The ahi tuna was the type where you have to spit most of it out because you can't actually chew it. The shrimp are the tiny little bay shrimp and had a weird texture. The vegetables were fresh and the rice was OK. When everything was mixed together, it made this dark brown mushy mess that was put on the rice with some pickled ginger thrown on the side. It was not pleasant to eat, and I almost threw it away. I was on my lunch break though and didn't have time so I had to eat it. I wish I could say you should eat here, but unfortunately, it was unsatisfying, made me worry about my stomach for the evening, and not a good experience. read more

I picked tuna, spicy tuna, albacore, salmon, and spicy salmon. My +1 opted for scallops instead of the spicy salmon. They also offer cooked octopus and shrimp. They also had all the standard toppings, likes imitation crab meat, edamame, seaweed salad, etc. and a few different sauces. I tried the house sauce. I will say that I was a bit disappointed by both the quality and quantity. The proteins were a little skimpy and so were the toppings. This is long second time eating Poki ever, so they had to walk me through the ordering process and the different elements for me to create my own Poki bowl. Nice experience overall. My bowl was good, full of flavor and very tasteful, I had sushi rice (Sticky rice), shrimp, salmon , tuna, cucumbers, cilantro, avocados, crunchy garlic and soy sauce. I think that was all. I'm always stoked when I learn of a new poke place in town. Poki Cat just opened yesterday on 1-13-19. They are located on the corner of Alicia Pkwy and Via Fabricante, next to the former Rubio's and occupying the space of where Gandolfo's New York Deli used to be. I arrived right when they opened at 11:00 am and the employee inside was ready for me. He was the nicest guy ever! He explained all of the sauces, toppings, proteins, etc. and went through the whole drill, which is similar to almost all of the other poke places - choose a base, add your proteins, select a sauce, choose your toppings, pay at the cash register and dive into your poke bowl! The inside was clean, spacious and bright. It matched the personality of the employee. I ordered the 3 protein bowl (ahi tuna, salmon & albacore) with salad as my base, the Poki Cat Original sauce (a blend of ponzu & shoyu), and toppings, all for $9.99. The price is on par with other poke places. I also added avocado for $1 extra. Since they are in their soft opening phase, they are offering 10% off, which is a great deal! I got my bowl to go, and they put it in a sturdy plastic box and placed it in a bag. The overall poke bowl taste was good. I liked the fact that they offered to put a vinaigrette dressing on my salad base. I wish the protein pieces were a little larger though. The serving size was average, but if you're hungry I would definitely recommend getting the 5 protein bowl. Overall I would give this place 5 stars for the service (seriously, their employee makes a great first impression for them), and 4 stars for the poke bowl. We came here for a quick lunch and were very happy with our food. We ordered a poke bowl with 50/50 zucchini noddles and rice as well as a sushi burrito. We were able to customize everything ordered down to getting extra protein, combining sauces, and adding ingredients. For the poke bowl, I got spicy tuna and spicy salmon with all the veggies. It was delicious. I recommend sauce #2 with a drizzle of eel sauce. For the burrito, my husband loaded up with a couple extra scoops of protein and he combined sauce #2 with the spicy Mayo sauce. I believe this place has recently opened in the last few months. It is very new and clean, and has a lot of seating room on the inside. They have the standard build your own bowl, or burrito. I felt like I had to try a specialty bowl, something they were known for. I was offered to try the 0-4 Tuna bowl. You have the option of choosing a base, I was trying to be healthy so I went with the brown rice. It comes with albacore, spicy tuna and regular tuna as the protein for their bowl. You can obviously tell them not to add items you don't want in there. But I wanted it just the way it comes. The quality and everything was good, and I enjoyed the bowl. Not that it matters, but I did feel like it was much more pricier than most places. The only recommendation is for them to switch to metal forks and spoons for the dine-in option, and to not automatically place plastic straws on the plate.
