Poki is good! Way better than north shore poki's fish. The service here at poki star is TERRIBLE though. Won't let it bother me, least I can see they won't spit in my food. So the soda machine was outa of bubbly bubble and I told one of the employees and she came out and tested it for herself and told me "seems fine to me" Glad I didn't pay for the soda cause I had a coupon. I would have to agree with Paul B. The Poki tastes pretty great. The location is nice (close to the beach.) But the gloomy atmosphere of the shop is anything but welcoming. The girl taking my order seemed like a robot. Like every word out of her mouth was a script. And although I appreciate that she knew what she was doing, there was no warmth in her tone or attitude. I used to work in the food industry, and I think it's important to remember, it's a service based industry. You're providing something to people. The whole experience, not just the taste of food. My favorite places to visit, are places that not only have consistency but make me feel welcomed. In N Out for example always has happy people working there who seem to enjoy their job and believe in their product. Instead of moving me along an assembly line of Poki, I feel like a real person at In N Out. Even when I make ridiculous requests for my burger to be made a certain way. I was debating between going to In N Out and Poke today...and now I know what my choice will be in the future. I think it's important for the owner reading this to hire people on your team who reflect your brand and mission. And who genuinely enjoy working with you and for you. The guy who rung me up at least had a smile, which was nice. The poke is pretty decent so if you aren't obsessed with customer service like me, check this place out. read more

Stopped here with my daughter after a tournament. The fish was pretty fresh but nothing spectacular. The location itself is really cute with a beach theme and there is an adorable little cupcake shop next door (apparently they won cupcake wars). I might have given this one 4 stars but it was $24 for 2 regular bowls without any extras + 1 lemonade. I've had much better quality Poki for less. Additionally they didn't offer Yellowtail which is my favorite so they lost points for that as well. All in all I didn't regret stopping and the yummy lemon cupcake I got for dessert next store definitely made it worth it! read more

Friendly staff, fresh fish and ingredients, 10% check-in discount, nice and clean. The only thing keeping me from giving 5 stars is...they need to put more sauce on the bowl. I think they just mix the fish in it? I wasn't paying super close attention to the sauce (didn't think I needed to), ordered 2 sauces, and when I dug in to eat the bowl at home, I realized none of the rice had any sauce! It was a sad moment, haha. Could have probably gone back to get more, but didn't feel like driving back. I was excited to see a poki place open up close to home. I arrived few minutes before closing and the door was opened and the lady told me they were already closed. I was very disappointed I didn't get to try it. My go to poki place is off talbert. Its a little further but when I get there few minutes before closing they always take me. There's a reason why you have store hours because you open until the time that's indicated on the store hours. Olive pit nearby is the same way. They close at 9:30 pm if you get there at 9:25pm they will still take your order. Thats how you run a successful business. Taking every customer until you are closed. read more

Love love this place. My girlfriends & I always come here for weekdays lunch because it's close to work. The portion is good & fresh, on top of that the sauce.. the crazy is the best sauce ever. I went to others Poki, they just have the standard Sriracha sauce, soy sauce but this place have unique sauce from others. If the owner is not there they seem to give more food than normal which is good otherwise they be very cheap to even give a half of scoops. read more

Wasn't impressed with Poki Star. Rice was dry and seemed undercooked. I got a regular size and the rice to fish ratio was very disappointing. Huge bowl of rice and melon ball scoops of fish. For the price I would rather go to North Shore or Pokinometry where the portions are better. Only plus is the location to work and home. read more

Parking- good Pricing vs portion- better than most! $9.99 for 3 scoops, $11.99 for 5 scoops!! Brown rice is good, salad was good, the carrot was an Asian twist, I enjoyed that, adding avocado is an extra 75 cents which isn't a surprise, but adding seaweed salad was extra, cucumber was crunchy and tasteful instead of tasting like it was pickled and watery, protein, (5 scoops) tuna, spicy tuna, albacore is great! Because I love raw scallops and got cooked ones it threw me off (that's my fault) but it was tasty and for some reason it reminded me of chewy bacon with a seafood taste! (Not a bad thing, I enjoyed it ) the salmon was perfect but I pulled out two bones, (only downfall) the ponzu sauce was dope, it tasted like the same sauce id get with my kbbq, a little bit of sweet&citrus! Only real and true complaint is, I got volcano 2 (2nd hottest) and it wasn't spicy at all, but overall I loved it! read more

We were amazed! My daughter and I like sushi and we're out taking a Saturday walk to have coffee, and next door was a Poki Star. We said, let's see what a Poki Star is exactly. We went inside and pretty unsure when there seemed to be not much of a choice. Basically, it's a Sushi Salad, where instead of it rolled up, it's tossed together in a bowl? I know, a little strange, and we were like we are going to waste our money. We had the freshest Salmon(rare) with brown rice, crab meat, cilantro, seaweed, and avocado along with two sauce mixes of spicy mayo and another sauce that was a little sweet. Mixed in a bowl and handed it off to us. Totally Amazed! It was sooo good and filling! We split a large bowl which was more than enough. We will be back for sure, and we are not the aficionados of sushi, as we may have it a few times a year, but honestly it was a fresh take on a salad and or sushi for that matter. Unfortunately I can't say this will be a good review. I've gone to this place so many times and spent quite a bit of money to feed my family. Today my experience was beyond bad, hardly any poke in the bowl... maybe 6 pieces that were flipped into the bowl all the while giving us dirty looks. ... it was basically a salad. The young lady who served us at 3:55pm was clearly having a bad day. Her attitude was HORRIBLE and she acted like we were bothering her by coming in to spend our money on their food. We did comment that it was poor service and attitude so she didn't charge us for one of the bowls, but that does not make up for her significant lack of good customer service. Don't get me wrong, love the food.... when it's actually in my bowl. Yes, I'm reaching out to the manager and will get it cleared up. This is a great place, been open for a couple days and I've been there both days. If your looking for great service, and something different, other than your typical fast food, this is the place to go. This is my first time having poki, and I love it, you get to choose every step of the way you want it, all of the fish selections are great, my favorite is the spicy tuna, salmon, shrimp mixed together, along with the sriracha mayo, and there house soy mix, volcano sauce. 2 stars for this location only. Downtown long beach is 5 stars. This location gives smaller portions and charges extra if you want more of anything. Also their cuts of fish weren't of good quality and were inconsistently sized. The fish itself was fine. Now here's where the lost a couple stars...I frequent the other location and have a stamp card, I wasn't offered one by this location and neither were any of the other patrons. When I asked the cashier to stamp my card, she did, once. I bought 2 poke bowls so I asked her to stamp it twice. No apology, just an attitude that matched the stingy feel of the place. read more
