Island Style Fried Chicken is still bomb

I'm really still a fan of this place and now that we're getting older, my husband and I can no longer eat a whole plate, so we can share. However my eyes were bigger than my stomach today, so I got two. My husband loves Kalbi and I'm a fan of the Island Fried Chicken .... but my ultimate favorite here is their fried rice. It's THE BEST fried rice IMO, WAY better than I can make!! They charge extra for the fried rice, but it's so worth it and we actually got two meals each from all the food we got for $47 out the door. The cabbage salad isn't as good as I remember and it's basically cabbage and a few piece of raw instant ramen. The dressing is pretty basic too. Seems like a splash of rice vinegar. The potato salad is good and they can call it their own. It's got a substantial amount of black pepper in it, but very unique.

Unsuspecting good Hawaiian food! Now is this the best? No. I ordered the fried chicken. I upgraded to the spam fried rice, obviously. The cabbage salad is sooo good. Their Mac salad is good as well. The chicken needs sauce. They have house hot sauce and teriyaki. I mixed them to create this amazing sauce. Next time I'm in the area I'll come back.

Island Style Fried Chicken Plate and Korean Barbequed Beef Plate

My family and I ordered the Korean bbq beef and island style fried chicken. Both had so much flavor and huge portions. There was 4 of us and we only got the 2 platters that was the perfect amount of food. We upgraded to bacon fried rice that was super good! The cashier was very friendly and answered our questions we had about the menu. She brought up our food upstairs in the dining area for us too. She gave us all of the extra sauces as well. The restaurant was very clean and there was outdoor seating as well. We will definitely come back again!

Food was not good. Cabbage had a strange taste, macaroni salad tasted like tuna fish, and the BBQ chicken had a hard outer crunch on it.

They have so much more indoor seating available compared to their old spot near Target, plus two restrooms as well. I ordered my usual, which was a three piece boneless spicy garlic chili peppa chicken (CPC) plate and their generous kitchen was so kind to hook me up. I love coming here because their staff is always so friendly and the food is incredible. Their Mac salad is out of this world and their steamed rice is oh so fluffy. If I remember correctly, I think they might also have a garlic shrimp offering as well that was equally yummy, but it's been a minute, so you'll have to double check with the staff directly. Parking lot is shared in a small strip lot, so it might be tough, but it's worth the drive and wait. You can call your order in or place it online. Prices are fair for the portion and quality, and I recommend this place to everyone that visits Orange County. I'm not even a fried chicken person, but will enjoy a plate of the Hawaiian fried chicken every time I'm in the area to visit my grandpa. The place was buzzin on Saturday afternoon which I immediately took as a good sign. It was an extremely hot day (cue Cali heat wave) and standing inside the restaurant didn't help. No AC and hot open kitchen made for a sweaty time. Ordered an Ai Pono Poke bowl and Roots plate to-go. Our total was $38 between the two items. Got home in about 25 mins and immediately dug in. For a $16 poke bowl, I guess I was expecting a bit more fish. Also, the rice had a sour ish taste (according to me). The Roots plate quantity was solid but the short rib was very chewy. Definitely a preference thing but chewy short rib is not my jam. The flavors were good though. There wasn't much of a service aspect to our experience cause we took our meal to go. Unfortunately was a bit disappointed as the food didn't hit the mark but very open to trying again in the future.

My cousin recommended this place to me during my last visit to Huntington Beach. He was very positive as well as satisfied with the food and the service of North Shore Poke. Their overall service was undoubtedly very good, but the taste and quality of the food were the only aspects that left me disappointed! I went to North Shore Poke Co. for lunch on March 28, 2026 after my visit to Huntington Beach. The place was moderately crowded the time I got in. The interior is nicely designed, capturing a traditional Hawaiian vibe. I chose the custom poke bowl - a small bowl with Rice and Salad, topped with three Hawaiian sauces (Traditional Shoyu, Spicy Mayo, and Spicy Shoyu), along with Ahi Tuna, Salmon, and extras like Cucumber, Masago, and Furikake. I also added Fresh Spicy Tuna and Seaweed Salad, which cost an additional $4.50! What disappointed me most was being charged for the Seaweed Salad, as many other poke spots typically include it as a complimentary topping. Their service was fast, and my small poke bowl was served within 5 minutes. The portion size felt underwhelming, considering the price I paid. The taste was also below average. They claim that their fish is "Fresh", my poke bowl unfortunately didn't reflect that. Most concerning of all, the Fresh Spicy Tuna seemed spoiled and had a very unpleasant smell! When I informed them, they promptly replaced the Fresh Spicy Tuna with Blue Crab. But by that time, I had lost my appetite due to the incident and could barely finish my poke bowl. North Shore Poke Co. might be one of the top poke spots in Huntington Beach, but I would still rank The Poke Place in Rancho Cucamonga and Ahipoki Bowl in Rialto well above it. Most likely I'm not coming back to this place again!

We arrived in the late afternoon and unfortunately they were all out of the malasadas which I planned to get for dessert. My friend ordered the Loco Moco and at first I was going to get a two item lunch plate with pork belly and beef but I decided against the plate. Instead I placed an order of their pork belly fries and spam fried rice. The Loco Moco was solid. The burger patty was cooked evenly, well seasoned and eggs over easy on top with gravy that wasn't salty. I love the Spam fried rice but my friend though it tasted too sweet. I think all the ingredients complimented well together. The spam, onions, and other veggies. The pork belly definitely gave a unique flavor to the pork belly fries. Both my friend and I agree that even though the pork belly tasted good it was a bit dry. The fries were above average. I would get the Loco Moco and Spam fried rice again but skip the pork belly fries. The service was friendly and my only complaint is that it is a small place. There are only a hand full of tables and finding a place to sit and eat would be a challenge during a lunch rush. However, I recommend giving a place a shot if your a fan of Hawaiian food. I already know that I'm coming back for the malasadas.

From the start, the service was excellent and easily one of the highlights of our visit. The cashier was exceptionally kind and even apologized for the wait, generously applying his employee discount to our order to make up for it. Despite the initial delay, our food was ready within 10 minutes. **Spam Brûlée Musubi: 5/5** Nestled between layers of freshly steamed rice, the grilled spam was coated in a glossy teriyaki-style glaze. Creamy kimchi aioli was drizzled on top, while the brûléed brown sugar formed a thin caramelized crust that added a pleasant sweetness and delicate crunch with each bite. It was so good that we ended up getting a second order. **Hot Kimchi Butter Katsu Chicken Sandwich: 5/5** This sandwich featured incredibly crispy panko-fried chicken that remained tender and juicy beneath its golden crust, smothered in hot kimchi butter that provided a subtle acidity and gentle heat. A touch of brûléed brown sugar introduced a sweet contrast to the savory fried chicken, while the kimchi aioli and macaroni salad brought a mellow creaminess that balanced its richness. Rounding out the sandwich was the Hawaiian bun, which was soft and moist yet nicely toasted on the exterior. **Hot Kimchi Butter Katsu Chicken & Katsu Shrimp Mixed Plate: 5/5** The mixed plate was another standout, combining their signature chopped katsu chicken with lightly battered shrimp drenched in hot kimchi butter. The shrimp had a light crispness that gave way to a succulent, snappy bite, while the sauce delivered a bold, umami-forward flavor. Accompanying the proteins were rice and their house-made macaroni salad, which incorporated shredded tuna and mashed hard-boiled eggs into a mayonnaise-based dressing finished with a sprinkle of paprika. These additions elevated an otherwise unassuming side with unexpected depth and complexity. Between the outstanding hospitality and impressive execution, Shootz exceeded expectations across the board, earning its place as my go-to whenever I'm at Rodeo 39.
