Usually get the poke bar so familiar with this place. Was in Torrance visiting family and placed an order here for my lunch. Food was ready quickly, person at register was friendly, food was good, can't complain

Arrived at 9:08pm after a long shift at work to find that the door was locked and they were cleaning up. Have their hours changed? If so, a hand written sign at the least would suffice. So disappointing!

    stale fish

My sister & I went to Poke Bar for lunch craving fresh salmon & tuna poke. Quality of fish was beyond disappointing. I thought sour taste of fish was from ponzu sauce but fish really was stale. Serving stale food is not acceptable no matter what.

i had a great day with my cousins and craved poke, so we decided to hit up this since it was nearby. the server didn't greet us nor had the proper customer service to let us know he was busy regardless being by himself. he prioritized solely the to go orders and then finally looked up while we were reading the menu for about good 5 mins to say "give me 3 mins" and continued on restocking the trays. now don't get me wrong, i use to work in the food industry as well. i know solo hours can be the worse and unpredictable, but customer service requires patience and multitasking. a simple "welcome" and "let me know if you have any questions" can go far, but being dismissive with a condescending tone/attitude isn't alright. onto the food, i purchased it at 7:33 pm, and i'm not sure what is going on, but it is now 11:28pm writing this after feeling sick and running a fever from the food. the fish probably wasn't maintained well and i didn't even finish the rest after the 2 bites i took in hopes that i wasn't just tasting it weirdly. the thai tea is what's killing me the most at the moment as i knew something was funky earlier. he offered us a taste test on both the milk tea and thai tea. upon tasting the milk tea, it was sour like lemons or something and i damn near spit it out. the thai tea was fine at first but as soon as i got home, i don't think the milk or cream should've hardened that quickly.... (pictures included) nonetheless, i'm sorry to the workers, but this is not ok. people can get severely sick. if management isn't training the team properly, the rest of the team follows the same way. like is the food handler certificate up to date?

If I could give 0 stars I would. This was my first time ordering Poké and I don't think I'll order another Poké again unless it's a reputable establishment. My disappointment is immeasurable. First, upon entry the server did not greet us and told us to wait for 3-5 min until he got the Togo orders ready. Keep in mind, we were still deciding what to order, but he didn't ask us if we were ready. Next, the server was chewing gum while he took our order. I never in my years of food handling that I witness a server chew gum in front of me. Part of the FDA test mentions that a food handler should never chew gum and this server violated that code. Another issue I had with our server was that some items were not available including drinks which he should've mentioned first hand when we were checking out. Lastly, the drinks such as the milk tea and thai tea were the most vile and rancid things we tasted. My cousins literally gagged and said that they were getting cold sweats as soon as we left the building. I used to work at a boba shop and this was a huge disappointment for my taste buds to witness. The server did warn us that if we wanted to taste it and to see if it was bad, but the picture will determine if the drinks are good or bad; you decide. The ambiance was quiet and the server had no intention of putting music in the background. Instead he used his AirPods while taking order. The server did not greet us nor had a smile when we entered the building. Overall, this was a very disappointing visit and you have lost a potential customers.

    Medium poke. And miso soup
    Janina S.

First time here. Every time I go to the gym I see this place and finally I got to stop by and I could say I loved it how that I've been missing out I got a medium poke and a side of miso soup. Everything for around $20 including tip. Parking is available right in the front. Very fast and the go.

Very cool little spot I came to while I was in the area. Parking outside was rough and tight spots everywhere. The two guys insider were very kind and helped me order immediately! It's basically station to station where you order the poke bowl you want. The fish itself was not that though. Really a bummer because it looked very good, but the smell was incredibly fishy by the time I got home to eat it. Maybe it was an off day? But that was very off putting.

Messy bar and example of how there is mixture of fishes

I would like to submit a complaint about a location in Hawthorne Torrance. April 6th time of 6:20 I went to order 2 bowls which I noticed that the area of the fishes were not clean and I let the server know that I have a member who is allergic to salmon so asked to make sure there is no salmon touching the food which it was.( I have a picture evidence) The server still ended up scooping the food which salmon was mixed in so I let him know to please make sure it's not from the pile since I don't want to take the risk. But server responded by arguing with me that there is no salmon mixed which I can clearly see there is and I also took a picture of. I respectfully ask that he takes this serious and do a new clean mix without salmon and he went in the back to get more clean food which he's throwing the bowls around with giving me nothing but attitude. When mixing the food he did not mix any of the food. He squeezed all of the food together. This is such a bad behavior even letting the person know how dangerous it will be if there is any salmon in food. I did pay for the meal but ended up throwing the order away because I do not feel safe for my family to eat a meal prepare by someone who doesn't care about a safety of a customer, which rather see that a family member end up in a hospital. Because when letting him know that there is salmon in the mixture he responds "no there is not, even if there is l, it won't be harmful." I request that someone reaches out to me and hear me out because I am very frustrated about this when I am a paying customer. The guy should be fired

The salmon had a really extreme fishy taste and the texture was disgusting. I don't think this is safe to eat. Also the store itself smells really bad, I'm concerned about the safety of the food here.

The chefs are visible. The staff is plentiful. The music is good. The atmosphere feels like the kind of place that understands hospitality. Unfortunately, the experience never quite came together. The first challenge was the temperature. The dining room felt more like a sauna than a restaurant. To his credit, our server Arthur worked hard to help and eventually got management to increase the air conditioning. He was easily the standout of the evening and did everything he could to salvage the experience. We ordered extensively, including the $130 Ise Course. Some of it was quite good. Some of it was surprisingly disappointing. The grilled lobster with yuzu miso and kinome was completely overcooked, dry and buried under too much sauce. One of the signature dishes of the course ended up being one of the weakest. The grilled yellowtail suffered from the same problem: dry, overcooked and lacking the care you would expect from a restaurant presenting a seasonal multi course menu at this price point. The larger issue was organization. Dishes constantly arrived with servers asking, "Who ordered this?" or "Who has the udon?" The dining room felt strangely disconnected from the kitchen. Food runners seemed unsure where dishes belonged, which created confusion throughout the meal. Then things really went sideways. Trying to be respectful, I asked that my parents be served first. Everyone eventually received their meals and continued eating. The problem was that my Ise Course never arrived in sequence. My family finished their meals. My children finished. My parents finished. My sister finished. And on my birthday, I sat there alone waiting for several missing courses while everyone else watched. A seasonal set menu is supposed to feel paced and intentional. Instead, it felt forgotten. Arthur again stepped in and spoke with management. The restaurant offered complimentary desserts, which was appreciated, although somewhat awkward because my meal was still arriving while everyone else was already moving on to dessert. What happened next genuinely surprised me. When the bill arrived, management returned and asked whether we would be willing to authorize an additional charge so gratuity could be increased from 18% to 20% because of the size of the party. After the heat, the delays, the confusion, the overcooked centerpiece dishes, the missed pacing and spending a birthday meal eating alone after everyone else had finished, it felt like the wrong conversation to be having. I don't enjoy writing reviews like this because there is clearly talent in the building and Arthur deserves recognition for how hard he worked. But hospitality is ultimately about making people feel cared for. On this visit, despite a beautiful room and some good food, that never happened.

The Uni Shooter was easily the highlight for me. Since it is consumed in one bite, the flavors arrive almost like a sudden burst. The vinegar-based tosazu sauce hits first with a sharp, energetic acidity. Then the quail egg yolk comes in and softens the vinegar while blending with the creamy uni, making the entire flavor become rounder and more harmonious. The contrast between the initial acidic impact and the gentle richness that follows was extremely well designed. It was memorable and very enjoyable. The Uni Oyster was much less successful. Both the oyster and the fish roe already have strong, assertive flavors. Together, they create an effective duet: the oyster provides the deep briny foundation, while each roe bead bursts and repeatedly adds small waves of salinity and texture. Unfortunately, the uni was too delicate to compete with either of them. Its flavor was almost completely lost. Instead of improving the oyster, the uni felt as though it had been added simply because this is a uni-focused restaurant. In my opinion, the dish would actually have been more coherent without it. The Uni Pasta was good. It was creamy, rich, and full-flavored, with enough uni character to make the dish satisfying. The portion was also very well judged. Rich uni pasta can easily become tiring, but this serving ended at exactly the right moment--just as I was beginning to feel that another few bites might become too heavy. Overall, the Uni Shooter was excellent and worth ordering. The pasta was enjoyable and well portioned. The oyster dish, however, needed better balance because the uni was overwhelmed by the much stronger oyster and roe. A worthwhile destination for uni lovers, but the best dishes are the ones in which the uni is allowed to remain the focus.

I am disappointed in myself for waiting this long to try Ueno Sushi. I've been driving by this location on Carson st for 10 years. I never went here because I thought the food would be mediocre given the history of changes but I was so wrong. SO WRONG! I came here on a Friday night for a party of 1 and while the restaurant was full and many customers were coming in for their reservations, I did not have to wait. The food highlights were easily the gobo chips and the skewers. The gobo chips arrived as an impressive, light-as-air mound dusted with seaweed seasoning... super crisp, savory, and addictively easy to snack on. The pork and wagyu skewers were masterfully executed as well, coming off the grill tender, juicy, and packed with rich, smoky flavor. The toasted eihire (stingray/filefish) was another great traditional touch, perfectly chewy and ideal for dipping in the spiced Japanese mayo my favorite.. On the flip side, a few dishes lacked the depth I was hoping for. The chicken karaage was fried well, but the flavor itself was a bit bland and needed more seasoning or marination and soft. The pressed rice rolls also fell flat, particularly the mentaiko roll.. it felt skimpy on the cod roe, and because the mentaiko seemed cooked through, it missed that fresh, raw texture and punchy brine that makes the dish shine. As for the space, it's quite dark, compact, and packed tightly with tables, which makes it feel a bit cramped when it's busy. However, seeing the dining room constantly full tells me that their best dishes keep people coming back. While there were some inconsistencies in taste, the highlights made it a solid experience, and I'm looking forward to returning to try more of the menu and updating my score!

I sure wish I had selected a different seat!! I wouldn't get the Nabeyaki soup again. It was really big and had a lot of end pieces of tough napa cabbage. There were two pieced of shitake mushroom and the standard thin fish cake slice. There was and egg in the soup and a three small chicken pieces. On the side were three small pieces of green bean and two tempura shrimp.
