Peruvian chicken, red beans, Mexican rice
Michelle H.

Nice warm spot for a decent meal. Atmosphere is cozy and staff friendly. Got the Peruvian chicken with Mexican rice, red beans & plantain's. Everything was decent; however, tasted warmed up, so wished it was cooked to order, except plantains, they tasted very good. We tried the Inca Cola Golden Kola & it was delicious.

Half chicken with fried sweet plantains, and avocado salad.

I got the half chicken and it came with two sides. The chicken skin was very flavorful and cooked just right. The skin was crispy and the meat was still juicy. I like places like this where it's not super fancy, but still clean, good food, and decent pricing.

The Salchipapas taste as good as they look and they look as good as I taste.

If it were located in Siberia, it'd be "Pullover Bravo" because it's so cold. If it were greasy and caused heart attacks, it'd be "Pulminary Bravo" and I'd advise not eating here. And if it were the people that rigged the 2000 election in Florida, it'd be "Polling Station Bravo" and they'd get away with it. Again. What to get: Chicken with Salchipapa as a side. What not to get: Stuck being the side b**** of your Saltypapa. Pollo Bravo is easily the best rotisserie chicken in the Houston area. They have four or five locations and all of them serve delicious moist tender perfect Peruvian-Mexican Fusion rotisserie chicken with amazing green sauce. I don't like fusion food, but this is authentic traditional Peruvian with a little Mexican on the menu here and there, so it works. Nobody is butchering any cuisine here. It's the real sh**, and it's very affordable too. Their sides are all excellent especially the Salchipapas (as opposed to your Salty Papa... I know a good therapist?) which are delicious French fries mixed with hot dogs. It tastes a lot better than it sounds. Like my Aunt with the voicebox. The beans are great too, and service is nice. Hi to the girls working here (waves). Prices are not bad at all and portions are pretty decent. This is not DC or New York with masses of these Peruvian options available. Even the South (Carolinas and such) have more of these type of places than Houston does. So to have one this good in this city is really awesome. And the other locations are great too, especially the one up on Long Point. The only negative is that I have tried their desserts, and while they are highly rated I didn't really love either of them. But then I don't come here for the desserts. I come here for the best rotisserie chicken and sides in Houston. And if you think you know a better one, Peruve it. And if Mel Gibson yelled "you can take our lives, but you'll never take our chicken!" it's be "Pollo Braveheart." And if lots of surgically enhanced princesses who make X-rated movies for a living came here to eat, it'd be "Pollo Brazzers." (I know at least one who does, and I can Peruve it. The proof is in the pictures. The proof is not in the pudding though because I don't like the puddings here). And if said girl gets chafed while eating here because her enhanced thingies are too big and her (unneccessary) upper-half undergarment is too tight, then that's "Pollo Bra-straps."

1/2 chicken

Considered a Mexican/Peruvian fusion restaurant, this place specializes in roasted chicken. You can get plates ranging from 1/4 chicken to a whole one. Sides range from plantains to an avocado salad. You're served a really spicy green sauce when you are seated. But what doesn't make sense to me is why serve it so soon if there are no chips to accompany the sauce. I wish they served bread to go with the chicken. I felt like I was missing some carbs. Otherwise, Pollo Bravo does have delicious chicken and it's an affordable place to take your family. Their pesto pasta is delicious too.

1/4 chicken, sweet fried plantains and Mexican rice!

"Let's have some chicken!" Their rotisserie chicken is juicy, tender, not dry at all, absolutely flavorful! Choose the size: 1/4, 1/2 or whole chicken; dark or white meat. I chose the combo 1/4 chicken with 2 sides: sweet fried plantains and Mexican rice. My friends got yuca, green plantains, salchipapa, french fries. Very tasty sides as well! Big Tip : request for their Green Sauce!! It is their spicy sauce, but nothing to burn your mouth habanero style. Just enough spicy kick to keep the taste even more satisfied! Another point to keep in mind - their service is very prompt, no forever wait for the food, courteous as well. One last point but not the least - my lunch was under $10. Not bad at all, right? It's very worth a try at least!! I was happy and will definitely come back ! It's not only chicken, it's delicious chicken!! I would highly recommend this restaurant as well!!

The salad was served with only drizzle of dressing. Everything else looked bigger than the 1/4 chicken.

Chicken is good, basically a better version of your ordinary rotisserie chicken. Huge portions of sides to go along with it.

I believe the chef also cooks for the Peruvian embassy here sometimes in Houston. The inside of their restaurant is decorated in a very intimate way with cultural aspects from the two countries. You already know I HAD to get ceviche when coming to a Peruvian restaurant. I got the ceviche chalaco, which includes mahi-mahi, octopus, shrimp, racoto-aji leche de Tigre, choclo, sweet potato puree, cancha, topped with fried cuttlefish. It has a nice citrus flavor and the leche de Tigre base is soo good. I actually really liked the mahi-mahi, and the fried cuttlefish was fried to perfection with the fish inside still being soft and delicious. That sweet potato puree really elevates the dish as well, it helps counter the citrus flavor but adds another dimension of flavor. My friend got the lomo saltado and it was so so good. The beef was so tender and easy to chew. The soy-oyster sauce they use makes this dish soooo so good. I love the steak fries drenched with the sauce too. I got the arroz con Mariscos. I remember they used to put squid ink in the rice back then. They infuse the rice with aji Amarillo (green pepper sauce?) and top it with shrimp, clams, mussels, octopus, cod, and sarza criolla (vinegar onions). It's basically a seafood paella. This was actually pretty mild in flavor compared to the lomo saltado. The rice was good and almost creamy like but I don't think I was a fan of the corn/bean like pieces in the rice? The seafood itself was good as well, especially the shrimp. If you come here you need to for sure get the ceviche and lomo saltado. They also have sushi rolls that you can order as well, they seem like very unique ones too

This time I called in an order for tallarines saltados and two whole chickens for my family. They told me it would be ready in an hour, which was fine. When I arrived to pick it up, the owner handed me the food and casually said he replaced my tallarines with lomo saltado -- without asking me first. He said it was "a better choice" and that they were out of tallarines. I told him clearly that I did not want lomo saltado, but he kept insisting, so I just took it to avoid arguing. When we got home, the real problem started -- both chickens were undercooked, tough, and hard to chew. It was so bad that I told my kids and family not to eat any of it, and I ended up throwing everything in the trash. I paid good money for this meal, and we didn't get to eat at all. Changing an order without consent and serving raw chicken is not acceptable. I won't be coming back.
