It was a huge order with sauce on the side and if salad on the side it gives you corn, chickpeas banana peppers onions, tomatoes, and plenty of rice beneath the chicken seasoned , it is best to eat right at the table before it goes cold but I can't seem to find any other places that gives a good amount of rice to meat proportions like they do and this large size is still under $13 for a reasonable deal that can be very nice if you crave for halal food, check out chicken wings, gyro and other that might fit your palate as they also have grilled chicken breast topped over rice. Used to really love this place for their huge portions, delicious gyro meat, flavorful rice, and generous portions of artery clogging sauce. However, either ownership changed or owners got stingy. It's just not the same experience. I usually get a mixed meat (lamb and chicken) over mixed rice (spicy and non-spicy). Prices have almost doubled in 5 years, which I know there's inflation but that's more than that. You're looking at $14 for their largest size, which used to be closer to $8. In addition, they used to put on as much white sauce as you asked for. Now they put on a few squirts and charge for any extra! Maybe that's why I see foot traffic drop down. Also, the sauce seems a bit more runny then I remember. The rice is still fairly good, and the spice level is definitely there on the spicy rice. Meat still flavorful, just seemed less than I remember. Service at least is typically quick and uneventful. Sadly, this is still a better option than halal guys, but no longer the great option I rememebr. read more

Jones Fried Chicken used to be where it was at back in the day, especially if you were ballin' on a budget or a struggling college student like my friends and I used to to be. I was in the area and decided to reminisce about the good ole days and saw this place in a whole other light. I don't know if it's just that I'm older and wiser now or what, but I couldn't even get to the ordering process all these years later. The place was dirty and customer service was not good. I can get past the bad customer service for some good food, but when I saw insects in the food area, I immediately asked for a refund and they happily obliged without question. This place has been around for awhile and I'm guessing I caught them on a bad day. The wings, and chicken and rice are really good and I would love to enjoy it again one day. I do enjoy eating their lamb over rice platter and the fried chicken. The platter is only good if it's spicy in my opinion. You have to purchase drinks if you want to drink something. I have tried placing a phone order once before and it was a busy line a lot of the times and when I was able to talk to someone, they would not let me place any order over the phone and I had to come in. Spacious seating inside but must ask them for keys to the restroom. There was a piece of hair on my food platter once so be careful. I asked for two drumsticks when I got the food I was still in the driveway and I seen one of the drumsticks was all broken up so I instantly showed the young lady in the drive through and she laughed and looked surprised I told her my daughter wouldn't eat that drumstick and she said there wasn't anything wrong with it and she's going to have too I then said no she really won't because she can't pick it up and she's special needs she has autism and she won't eat anything like this! One my favorite places for late night bites and something quick. I take this place over Halal Guys all day everyday. Get the lamb over mixed half spice rice. Because if you get full spicy you will regret it in the morning. But the mixed half spice is good amount of kick in your month and has good flavor compared to halal guy which is bland. Several years later from my last review and I still love this place. I have tried and failed on many missions trying to find a place here in DFW that offers spicy rice like Jones. I know most places offer the spicy red sauce but it's not the same. Jones's spicy rice packs the heat throughout the dish and is guaranteed to make even the most spicy food lover sniffle. The white sauce perfectly complements it The lamb is delicious although the chicken is hit and miss. Overall, still good. I have been inside since my last review. It is simply set up and neat. They make your order in front of you and you pay at the counter. No fountain drinks. There's a good amount of seating but on the last couple of visits, there were not too many people dining in. They did pack extra white sauce to my order though which was super cool since they would charge extra for them before. Keep doing that please. With a medium crust, I thought the chicken was good tasting and satisfactory. The serving of fries was large and they had a seasoning on them that tasted good. However I needed ketchup for them and the only option here are ketchup packets which I hate (except for the ones at Chick-fil- A). The regular packets have so little ketchup in them you have to open many to get enough and that's too much work. This meal was good and inexpensive but not warranting a score higher than a 3. If in the area, I would come back and order the chicken again but maybe order a different side of rice to take the place of the fries. Get some ketchup bottles! read more

I mean it's perfect since it's super filling, tasty, relatively cheap, and they are open till 5am. It's not located in the best part of town, and you'll occasionally get a beggar asking you for money outside, but inside it's all delicious food. Super brightly lit, it's a nothing fancy restaurant that just focuses on their food. I usually only order their lamb/chicken over rice, but my friends really like their fried chicken wings and cheesecake dessert also. A small is like $6 and a large is close to $10. But you would have to be SUPER hungry to completely finish a large on your own. I do like this place better than halal guys or gyro king, but specifically because of their spicy rice and their SPICY red sauce. That red sauce packs a punch so don't use too much of it if you've never tried it before, but I personally use 3 containers of it/large order. But as long as you don't mind the lack of ambiance and are craving some lamb over rice, I highly recommend this place! It's just got that home cooked, slightly greasy in a good way, hole in the wall feeling that other similar halal meat over rice places don't have. I have never entered the store, usually my brother goes in and orders for me - So I have no idea how the staff's service is towards customers. I once tried the Lamb over Spicy Fries a long time ago and it exploded in my mouth with flavor. I never again tasted any other lamb the same way, but about 1-3 years ago they changed the recipe, the fries are no longer swirls as I had been used to. Although I was disappointed, I dug in and got lost in the taste once again. The boyf and I came here after haphazardly making a quick decision after trying to determine where to eat lunch for 20 minutes. To match the outside, the inside is comparable to your local Mickey D'a (sans the infamous red and yellow and red and yellow and red and yellow). Nothing special and kind of dingy. The cashiers are nice, but take their time. I was super turned off by this, but was hoping the food would make up for all this. I got the lamb and chicken mix bowl. It comes with long grain or spicy rice, lamb and chicken, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, diced onions, and secret white sauce. I asked for banana peppers as well, cause banana peppers. Guys, this bowl is all sorts of amazing. The Halal Guys is good, but this is pretty darn special. The lamb and chicken are so flavorful, I could eat this all week and find new flavors hidden in the meat every time. The meats, with the mix of the rice and veggies and white sauce makes this bowl phenomenal. I've never had any halal or gyro meat taste this delicious. This place doesn't mess around. We love The Halal Guys in NYC and thought Jones Fried Chicken is the closest. Yes, I know there's a few Halal Guys in Houston but they just don't taste the same as those in NYC. Anyway, back to JFC. The location isn't ideal and the area is a bit sketchy. Had a few guys asking for money before during the day so I don't go there at night. Kinda like a no-frills restaurants where they don't have water, ketchup except in small packets, etc. We usually get lamb over rice, L is $8.99 and S is $6.99. It comes with lettuce, tomatoes, onions and corn. Today, I was told they charge $1 for a small scoop of corn. How disappointing! Overall, rice and meat are flavorful but greasy. I'll say this much perhaps going earlier I would have gotten fresher food? Between the freshness of the food and the overall cleanliness at the time I was there - are 2 stars. I enjoyed the spices and different flavors. Its certainly unique and set apart from other cuisines in the area that I have had the chance to sample. The service was good the staff was friendly and attentive - we even joked around a little bit. I plan to give them at least another chance but for now I would suggest trying them if you are nearby. I ordered large lamb over yellow rice plate and large falafel over spicy rice plate to go at $9.23 each . I was surprised how much foods we got for the price. Falafel plate - there were 10 falafel patties with rice and salad in the order. Mild and delicious white sauce covered the whole container. The spicy rice was spicy, but addictive. My nose was running after three bites, loved it. Falafel patties were fried perfectly and delicious. Definitely will order this plate again. Lamb plate - the whole container was covered with the same yummy white sauce. The diced lambs were seasoned and cooked perfectly. I went with the regular yellow rice with this plate and it was fragrant and flavorful. Definitely will order this plate again. The salads on both plates were fresh but boring. It's called Jones Fried chicken, but located in an old james coney island, but the best food is the rice dishes?! YES YES YES. I must admit the lamb clowns the chicken, so just get only the lamb and the spicy rice is better so why bother mixing it? So my recommendation, get the lamb over spicy rice. BTW I did try the fried chicken in the form of chicken wings, they were on the dry side, prices were fair, some customers came in very confused, because even though they do sell the fried chicken it's by far just a sideshow compared to the main event of the halal meats. read more

It seemed like some people took offense of my review of the Halal Guys they had to personally message me and told me to go try this place out. LMFAO, seriously guys. One message in particular was sent by someone who's obviously associated with Jones Fried Chicken because he/she only has three reviews and two of them are for Jones (five stars) and the Halal Guys (one star). Did you really think I would take your message seriously? Especially since your profile picture is of Salma Hayek??? Anyway, moving on to my REAL experience at Jones Fried Chicken. Since everyone seems to always compare the two halal places, of course I had to give it a try! JFC has a much more extensive menu compared to THG. In addition to the rice platters, Jones also offers fried chicken (obviously), burgers, hot dogs, seafood, and a whole bunch of other stuff. But my review is obviously limited to the food that I've personally tried and the level of service that I received when i went there. Unlike the Halal Guys that only offer chicken, beef, or a combo plate; JFC adds lamb meat to the mix. It would have been nice if I could get a combo of all three meats so I could have little taste of everything, but the only combo mix that was available (when I asked) to me was lamb/chicken combo. So unfortunately, I didn't get to taste the beef. But since all the other reviews are pretty much raving about the lamb anyway, I definitely didn't mind getting the lamb/chicken combo. When I came here, it was pretty late at night around 9 or 10 pm. I don't remember exactly what time. But this place opens late so it's definitely a good place for some late night dining, or if you just want to pick up something to go late at night. There were only a couple of parties ahead of me so I didn't have to wait too long to place my order. As I mentioned above, I ordered the lamb and chicken over rice along with some fried chicken wings because a restaurant that promotes fried chicken in their name MUST have some good fried chicken, right? Unlike the people at the Halal Guys, the cashier here wasn't too friendly. She was your typical blank faced, didn't seem to enjoy her job type of cashier who gave me a "how can I help you?" with no enthusiasm whatsoever. No worries though, after ordering what I wanted and paid; I waited a little bit while my meals were being prepared. The people who were preparing my meals didn't bother about how much sauce I wanted on my platter. Looking at the pictures posted here, it looks like some days you'll get just enough, some other days your meal will be flooded with the white sauce. Unfortunately, my meal was flooded with the white sauce (see picture). I got my meals, I made my way home (I ordered to go). I didn't realize how much sauce I was given until after I got home, but hey more is better than less anyway. I scooped out some of the white sauce and chowed down, and let me just tell you that YES, JONES FRIED CHICKEN DOES SERVE SOME DELICIOUS RICE PLATTER!! Would I say that it's better than The Halal Guys? No. Not necessarily. The lamb does give Jones an upper hand in the halal wars between these two places since that's something that The Halal Guys doesn't offer. In addition to that, I can't deny that the lamb is very flavorful. One of these days, I'll just have to order from both places and try them side by side!! As for the fried chicken wings. Meh. All I was able to taste was the oil. They tasted a little bland. I definitely wouldn't go back for the wings. I'd rather drive a little bit further out and get some Timmy Chan's fried chicken wings. Anyway, I'm probably going to frequent Jones more often than I do The Halal Guys based on proximity alone since Jones is a lot closer for me than the Halal Guys. Craving something different Sunday night so my husband picked up some food from Jones Fried Chicken. Don't be deceived! They do serve chicken, but this is a Mediterranean fast food place. We ordered the lamb rice mixed platter which came with chopped lamb on basmati rice and some veggies. It was really good and the sauce wasn't overpowering. We also got the falafels - probably some of the best I've had. They weren't overlooked and had a nice flavor. They come on a bed of salad - lettuce, tomatoes, and raw onions plus their own Taziki sauce. I'm glad there's a Mediterranean fast food near us! Will be ordering from them again soon. read more

I heard about jones fried chicken at my sisters, as she had catered the food from there. Wow, did it taste good, so I was convinced to pay them a visit. It's located off of hwy59 close to the corner of fondren and bellaire. Ambiance is bad amd kinda run down and you're better off taking carry out. The place is double story and so U have plenty of space to sit. Location is little shady but we come here to enjoy the food. My recommendation Is the lamb with rice, which also happens to be there top selling item. Furthermore, there philly steak sandwich is delicious too,along with The gyro sandwich. Also try the fried chicken, which is very good and the Wings and burgers. I very well may have said that the entire menu calls for all my fellow yelpies. Also, when U first enter restaurant, they have itemized pictures of their menu items, which helps out with a decision on what to indulge in. Give them a try, you'll love it. Houston's hidden gem with convenient hours. They open generally early and stay open to pretty late. Another amazing perk, they have a drive thru! The food is amazingly good. I usually get the lamb or chicken over rice. You have the option of spicy or non-spicy rice. Then, regular or large. Either size for me lasts me 2 meals. The food is always prepared fresh and hot. When they say it's spicy, it is spicy! I have ordered from then personally and even for a work party. I've called ahead for them to prepare 10 plates and they were ready for pick up even I got there. So, I would also recommend it for individual catering meals. They have additional such as their fried chicken that too looks so good, but once I pull up and see that lamb.... it's lamb all the way for me. The Halal meat here is definitely one of the best in Houston. The staff are friendly and fast. If you haven't discovered this place, you have been missing out!
