Hmmm, I want to like this place, I really do. Arrived around 8:15pm. First impression: "what's that smell?" As in, what's that sewage smell? Yea. We ate-in and the aroma never went away. Food was ok. Ordered the traditional chicken with side of white rice and beans, with sweet plantains. Chicken was greasy. Overly. :-( Rice and beans were fine. The sweet plantains were like the frozen Goya kind you can buy at the store, but didn't taste as good. :-(( We were all hungry so we ate most of it, if not all. And now I feel a lump in my stomach. The restaurant is for dine in, take out or drive thru. It is very clean and customer service is a priority. I had the two piece chicken with a side. I ordered the leg and thigh but they accidentally gave me the wing and breast. A woman who works there promptly took it away and brought to my table two fresh pieces of a thigh and leg. They do bring the food to your table though it's fast food. Kind of like Torchy's Tacos. I was underwhelmed by my chicken in terms of the amount of meat on each piece but the flavor was good. I had the french fries for my side and they were great: thin and crispy. My spouse had the three tacos (you get to choose which three you want) and thought they were the best tacos he's ever had -- better than Torchy's. Next time I'm going to try the tacos and the empanadas as they looked really good and fresh. I didn't like the guava juice drink so I topped my cup up with the iced tea instead and no one said anything which I appreciated. Will definitely return and recommend for fresh, fast food. read more

I'm Salvadorian so I was expecting the same as I get back home. I was wrong, this place is amazing and the owner is super nice. I had a chicken fajita bowl. I can't wait to go back. My husband had the chicken strips which he enjoyed as well. There is a lot of selection so it is going to take me awhile until I try everything. I bought the half chicken dinner with two sides. The corn side was delicious! The chicken was seasoned well and was good. The fries were cold and tasted very old. The tortillas were the same. This is nothing compared to the authentic Pollo Campero in Guatemala. I suggest you go somewhere else because you'll be very disappointed.

So I thought I would try it out for a second time - love the restaurant and design and location and everything but found the food to be "average" my first trip a week after it opened. Staff was very friendly then. On my second trip I found my food to be well presented and fresh as the last time but my order once again was VERY bland - again! Yawn. Didn't help that the lady working the lunch time drive thru seemed frantic - so much that she forget to give me the $10 in change back she owed me (of a $20 bill I gave her) and frazzled (and almost pissed, distrustful?! that I told her of her mistake) f I want to run through the drive through in the future I will stick with the EL REY right next door. Better food, better value, locally owned, better service. This restaurant has very poor parking options and the city should study why they would allow a restaurant with this much traffic to have so few parking spaces. read more

I going to have to be honest here. $30 for three fast food meals with fries and drinks was the order. The iced teas were void of any sign of ice. The fries were soggy and lacking in taste. The camperritas were breaded to the point that the dough wasn't fully cooked in the middle. No sign of salt or pepper. The chicken sandwich has flavor but only because of the mayo/hot sauce they loaded it with. Long story short, overpriced and poor quality. Would give a 0 star rating if I could. read more

I went here yesterday for lunch and it was not what I was expecting. First let me say that you can preorder your food online. I guess this method is more for people who are taking it Togo but my boyfriend and I were hungry and were worried about the wait time. When we entered there were huge digital menus on the right wall. This was awesome because I am constantly squinting my eyes to read the small menus behind the counter. The place appeared extremely clean and even had bottled beer! Quilmes from Argentina was one of their selections and by far one of my favorites. Hardly any bar carries quilmes so it was extremely cool to see this little Latin place had it. Now the menu is different but any place that has empenadas cannot go wrong. Their tacos were very warm and flavorful. I didn't try the chicken which apparently they are known for. However, it looked amazing. Five stars were given because the food was fresh, the establishment was very clean, and overall it was a unique experience. Can't wait to go back. No forks clean and ready.... No more good homemade sauces... The rice it's all smooshy over cooked, beans old and dry mashed potatoes terrible ... No more cucumber salad, no more black beans... I went to this Pollo Campero at fry rd new location and I order dine in to go and the manager asking what my order and i showed my receipt and he told the employee's and said my order is coming and several number passing my order number and i decide went to talk the manager to get my money back. This is my first time to visit to this restaurant and now I would not coming back at all and i will telling all my family and relatives about bad service and disorganized. Right now is okay the business but several months go by all some employee's will be gone because if you don't serve the customer right will be no business. read more

There was a lot to like here. The restaurant is nicely decorated and comfortable - plush booths, not hard fast-food furniture. Fountain drinks included mango, guava, horchata, and hibiscus tea for the same price as the usual sodas. The salsa bar featured five different choices, and they were good, especially the tamarind chipotle salsa. The staff were exceedingly attentive and nice. The ingredients were fresh. I liked my tacos better than what I've had from El Rey next door. We both ordered a two taco combo with a crispy chicken taco as one of the choices. It was pretty good, more generous than the Torchy's equivalent for example, and came with mango which is a nice touch. A bit too heavy a touch. I hate to complain about getting too much of a premium ingredient, but the mango did dominate. My other taco was carnitas and David's was steak. We liked both, but like much of the food, the flavors were a bit too strong. The steak taco comes with a spicy green sauce. By the time you add some fresh salsa, there's too much going on. David got rice and beans as his one side (two sides would be nicer) and I got chipotle fries which were again a bit too seasoned. David also got a side of cole slaw which had even more mango. Still we were basically satisfied. And then the manager brought over three more tacos saying he thought when ours came out they looked a bit small. I suppose he's just trying to win over customers, but it was appreciated. The staff were very friendly from start to finish - the manager stopped a conversation with an employee at the counter to thank us as we were leaving. In the land of bland fast food, it's hard to be too critical of a place that had if anything too much flavor. I heard great things about their chicken, so I've been trying to visit for a while. The first time, a group of us visited PC at 2 am on a Saturday. Their drive thru menu stated that they close at 3 am. All of the lights were on in the building and there were employees inside. No one answered at the speaker box so we drove around. The employees waved us to leave - they didn't even have the decency to talk to us. The next Wednesday, we wanted to try it again. We ordered the 9.99 Family Feast, but we were told that it only applies on Friday nights, so they tried to charge us over $20 (instead of giving in, we simply left). Perhaps we're just unlucky, but I don't think anything could be worth this much hassle! read more

Came back sat down and started eating then decided to get another side and went to pay... my surprise when the total was about 15% more, when I asked why it was different then the menu price cashier said our pricing is higher but they haven't updated the menus. I asked to speak to the manager and she said they have asked the Main manager for new menus but they still haven't gotten them. The price isn't the problem but the shadiness of it! I'm always here for the Wednesday Special. One whole fried/grilled chicken (thighs and breasts) for $10! I prefer the grilled one for the flavor. Tastes amazing with a side order of the Yuca Fries! The dip they give with the fries is awesome. They charge thirty cents each for extra dip packs, but I always buy three-four extra since they go great with the chicken as well.! The only Empanadas that I personally like are the Spicy Chicken Empanadas. Great location, great service, and best of all, GREAT food! read more

I first came here hoping it would serve as a substitute for Pollo Tropical (which houston now has!). Unfortunately it didn't quite hit the spot. I wasn't crazy about the grilled chicken, but both of my sides were good. The beans and rice were perfectly cooked, and the cucumber salad was refreshing. Customer service at this location kinda sucks. This is the third time they have gotten my order wrong in the evening. It is always the same guy at the window at night as well. Easy to get in and out of the drive thru and parking lot. The drive thru is fast. I always get the tomatillo chicken taco (Peruvian style chicken, guacamole. Green tomatlllos. Queso fresco. I have been visiting the location on Bellaire for my fix for years, since my first exposure years ago in Costa Rica. The location on Washington is not as good, in my opinion, as the location on Bellaire. However, it is close to my house and satisfies my fried food fix.
