So I stopped by El Pollo Compero, finding it to be a refreshing and different Central American take on the fast food fried chicken that we eat all the time. Great flavor and variety of chicken, from outstanding nuggets that rival Chick-fil-A to bone-in frjed and grilled chicken. I love their charro-style beans as well as their rice and yucca fries. The service on this visit was cheerful and excellent, highlighted by Lourdes and Ricardo. BTW, I noticed that their health department score from an inspection 2 weeks ago was a perfect 100. First time trying this location. Ordered online and got an 8 piece chicken with 6 empanadas, side of the beans and 2 dinner rolls. Although a bit delayed (I picked up in store) Everything was hot upon things being ready. Manager even noticed I was waiting and offered me a drink on the house. Nice touch. Only docking a star because of the extended wait time. I would recommend this location if you are in the Marietta area. read more

I wanted to try the offerings at this Guatemalan Chicken Chain, and I wasn't disappointed. For me the grilled chicken was the star of the show., but I understand that the fried chicken is the variety tof hat they sell the most of, and it was enjoyable too, but I like the marinade of the other with the citrus , cumin and latin oregano, or whatever they put in it. I went back and again and tried ordering the grilled chicken drive-through at around 8pm one night and they were out of it, but it wasn't a big deal other than I was stuck in their drive-thru lane and had to wait for a lengthy order ahead of me to complete before I could leave teh business and go elsewhere for dinner on that particular night. My takeaway for others is try the grilled chicken, but walk in to order it, if you aren't in the mood for fried chicken, or you could get stuck in the drive-thru lane for a while. read more

I decided to try this place because I noticed it when I ate at the Majestic next door. This is a fast casual place. Think Jollibee without a huge mascot and Hispanic Influence instead of a Philippine influence. I have to say, this place hit every note when it comes to Fried chicken. I ordered a 2 piece, but the person behind the counter ordered a three piece. I was trying to order two thighs instead but not an issue. Then I got the sweet plantains and mashed potatoes. I also decided to get the Fried chicken sandwich to try. First, the chicken was super juicy. Has some crunch from the breading but the brining they use with their chicken was flavorful and I could actually taste the seasoning. It's usually always meat and breading for most chicken spots. Chances are they add some adobo and that's the reason this taste better than KFC. It's not really hard though. The mashed potatoes were ordinary. Can't really go wrong with that. The Sweet Plantains are great. They are just like how my mom makes them. For an extra zing, lightly salt then to get a savory flavor kick in the mouth. For the chicken sandwich. It took a while to get the sandwich. I thought they forgot about it, but then they brought it out. Seems like they freshly fry these on demand. The result is that it was just as juicy and flavorful as the base fried chicken. It was so piping hot, that it burned my tongue. The only downside is the choice of picked used in their recipe. They used sweet brined pickles or Butter Pickles. Because of the sweet taste it didn't really meld with the sandwich, so unless you like sweet pickles, I recommend removing them or ordering without. Overall, it was a great experience. 10/10 would come again. read more

I spent two months in Guatemala when I was in graduate school and had an amazing time. One of the most popular restaurants there is Pollo Campero. The people love their fried chicken, and I thought that it was even better than KFC. Well, when we first moved to Atlanta they had a location in Roswell. It closed many years ago. When I was driving through Marietta, I was shocked to see another Pollo Campero location, so I had to stop and try the food. When I was placing my order, I told the cashier that I had eaten at their restaurant in Antigua, Guatemala. She looked surprised, and she told me that she was originally from Guatemala. She also told me that she preferred the food back home. So, if you're looking to try something a little different, stop by the Pollo Campero in Marietta. The chicken is good and different from the competition. They also have some unique side dishes, such as fried plantains. They also offer a cinnamon horchata drink. The employees are friendly and the food is good, but it doesn't taste exactly like the fried chicken in Guatemala. If you ever want to try the real deal, plan a trip to Guatemala someday. You'll discover wonderful people, food, language and culture. read more

We were excited to try this place... However, the chicken had too much seasoning that you could not taste the chicken. We tried both grilled and fried. Unfortunately, they put the fried chicken on the bottom of the rake out container so it became wet, and not crispy fried chicken. However, the beans and plantains were good. I was searching for a place that sold arroz con pollo because I didn't feel like preparing it at home and this place came up in my suggestions. This place does NOT sell arroz con pollo (thanks Yelp, thanks Google), but I was intrigued so I decided to stop by. First off, I'm not sure how I managed to miss this place all this time. I've been to that Walmart hundreds of times, Sonny's Barbecue, Popeye's 1000 Degrees Pizza, Chick-Fil-A, but never noticed it. But I digress ... I had the 6 count nuggets, no side and the chicken sandwich, no pickles with a side of Campero rice. I wanted to try the corn salad but they had sign posted stating that they were out of it. The cashier offered me a complimentary beverage and told me there was a 6 minute wait on the nuggets and gave me the option of pulling around once two cars appeared behind me in the drive thru. It took quite a bit longer than 6 minutes for him to bring the food out, but he threw in a few Yucca fries (I'd mentioned that I'd never had them and I was waffling back and forth about trying them). Overall - I enjoyed my food. My nuggets were very good - with the exception of one that somehow came out rubbery and undercooked. My chicken sandwich was pretty good. I 'lifted the hood' to take a look and saw that they'd put pickles on it anyway so it did have a little bit of that dreadful pickle brine taste. I think it would be nice if they offered lettuce and tomato. I actually ate the sandwich later that evening and ate the rice even later that night. The rice was 'ok' - but it seemed as though it was missing something. I'm pretty sure I would have enjoyed it more if I'd eaten it with the grilled chicken. No stars deducted for the wait time because 1) the cashier / customer service was so sweet and accommodating and 2) everything appears to be cooked fresh to order. They are a little pricey for 'fast food' but it is 100% real chicken (as opposed to pressed, ground chicken). Someone compared it to KFC and I don't get that comparison AT all. The batter is light and crispy. It's very good batter, but it's but nothing like KFC Original or KFC Extra Crispy. Not saying it's better or worse, just saying they are completely different coatings. Now that I've tried it, I'll be back to try the bone-in chicken fried chicken and the grilled chicken. I hope the corn salad is available when I come back. read more

I was so excited to try from the reviews. I got the 2 piece grilled with coleslaw. I will be straightforward: 1. Chicken was not bad but lackluster. 2. I was hoping the slaw was sweet like KFC but it waa savory and too mayonnaisey for me. 3. Roll was good. Since I only ate the chicken and the roll, it just wasn't a meal to write home about. The fried chicken is excellent and so are the sides. However I will say that the prices are a little ridiculous. They are even higher than the picture posted of the menu. I love this place! Every time I go it is spectacular service and today was more of the same. The young lady at the window with the long blue nails was extra helpful. We had to wait because of the amount of food my family ordered but she was patient and so helpful with making sure we had everything we needed. It was exactly the flavor experience I was hoping for. Both the fried and grilled chicken are excellent! I think the grilled chicken is marinated with something similar to a mojo criollo marinade, then grilled to perfection! The fried chicken had a unique flavor that is not duplicated in the fast food chicken market. The four sides I have tried are delicious as well, and served in good portions. The only item I will probably not order again is the empanadas. Very tasty (especially with the dipping sauces) but a little on the skimpy side. :-) I have been back several times and would definitely recommend. read more

The staff was attentive, but I love guacamole and the gave me pico de gallo as the guacamole was still frozen...! Rice and beans were good, but the chicken color was grayish and the texture rubbery. Love the empanadas w/their fabulous special sauce-my husband raves about the chicken. They have a corn salad that is unusual and tasty. A pleasant change from the same old same old side dishes usually offered at drive up chicken places, although they have standard fare as well. Love the coleslaw-it's the creamy kind and once I add a bit of sugar it's perfect-I like it sweet. Not really in our neighborhood but it's destination dining for us-worth the drive, it's so good! I'm a road warrior salesman that's lived and traveled across the country. I've traveled across the US and stopped to eat chicken everywhere. This is the best fried chicken hands down anywhere. A decade ago I only enjoyed this when visiting a friend or customer in Norcross. It's beautifully fried, succulent and flavorful. I'll never eat Popeyes and definitely not KFC over here. I met one of the owners inside this location when they first opened. Nice lady. Chili beans are delicious and yucca fries are a nice alternative to regular fries. read more
