Rico's far surpasses any preconceived notions I had, with their offerings. Secondly, the flavors of the elements don't fight one another for center stage / very nicely balanced. Third, the service is quick and very friendly. Did I go for a bowl? YES ... Was it good? Oh YES! The bowl had huge chunks of real chicken, fresh veggies and rice, and it came with my choice of sauce - the cilantro garlic is SO GOOD! So this place is right across from Papi's and I think it can be good if you're getting your order to go and we do like that we can order the sauces in the exact amounts we'd like. My wife ordered the ropa vieja sandwhich and I ordered the more traditional Cuban. I prefer the bread on the Sammy's from papi's. This place is usually a bit quicker but not today. The staff has changed since it opened. The guy taking the orders seemed to not be super friendly and more annoyed by my to go order than anything. It is clean on the inside and the food is made fresh. I don't love giving my money to folks who aren't friendly and it took more than 20 minutes - hence the 2 star review instead of what would probably be at least 4 if not 5 stars. I have come here for lunch and the person taking orders was great and it was made with a quickness - so this may have been a one off. read more

Excellent place with better ingredients than competing options. Located right on the Kennesaw State University campus providing easy access off of interstate 75. I am a student at KSU. This was my first time here today and I loved it! The staff was very friendly and the food was fantastic!!!! I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant and it was very clean. Another bonus is that students from KSU get a discount on the food as long as you have proof. I honestly cannot recommend this place enough! We have been wanting to go here for lunch based on all the Yelp ratings. We had an opportunity today and it was a great experience. We were greeted by the General Manager who was Friendly and Knowledgeable about their offerings. The restaurant is next to a SB coffee shop and has adequate parking and easy access from Chastain Road. The restaurant was brightly decorated and clean and has table seating along with a high top bar seating across the front of the restaurant. My better half wanted a Cuban sandwich and ordered that sandwich with a side of Black Beans and Yellow Rice. Her sandwich was delicious (she let me have a few bites) and a very large portion. I wanted to try one of their bowls; the manager recommended a few and I decided to try the Latin Bowl with half pulled pork and grilled chicken. The flavor combination was excellent and this bowl is big enough for two to share. Rico's is awesome. There's a good reason it has 5 star reviews. The food is top quality and served in a quick-service setting. The options range from arepas (a Colombian thick corn tortilla with cheese) to bowls/plates with different meats or proteins. My favorite is their steak plate that includes an egg, avocado, plantains, and rice & beans. It's so delicious. My son even ordered salmon, which isn't really what you think when going to a Latin American restaurant, and it was great too. Lots of variety because it includes many different Latin American foods. I have been here twice when passing through Atlanta. It's easy to reach from the interstate and located in a small, new strip of commercial buildings near Kennesaw. This whole area is really a nice stop. Rico's is a nice building and has clean, comfortable seating. Overall: Highly recommended!! I was in Rico's today waiting on my order. Two young men came in and asked were they hiring. The young lady came from behind the counter and asked them did they speak Spanish. They said no we understand Spanish because we worked around a lot of spanish-speaking people but we don't speak it. And she said to them they don't hire people who don't speak spanish. Last I checked this is America. And Americans hire spanish-speaking people all the time who don't speak English. But they can't hire English speaking people who don't speak Spanish. The empanadas are delicious, with the sauces and the cilantro dipping mojo that is to die for, their tostones are salty and crispy which I'm all for! I ate a ropa vieja sandwich, and I will say I wasn't a fan of the seasoning used on the meat, It feels like it's only "ropa vieja" because is shredded beef but not with the flavor and seasoning, because not Colombian Venezuelan or Cuban ropa vieja, or carne mechada, tastes like that, it needs more of a pepper and tomatoey flavor to it. To start we had chips and queso. The quest was hot and thick. Very good. I had chicken tacos with mango pico, guacamole, and mozzarella cheese. I got the Rico Hot Arbol sauce to put over my tacos and OH MY it was HOT. Before pouring over my tacos, I dipped my finger to try and my mouth was on fireeeeeeee. Filled with spices I was a fan but if you're to try it please be aware. I also had a mango agua fresca which was delicious. It was fresh and tasted just like mangoes! I was a huge fan, all of the food was cooked to order so it came out hot and fresh and it was delicious. Chicken was flavorful and juicy really bringing the taco together. In the Commons at Chastain shopping center next to Starbucks. Parking is easy,there is plenty of free parking in the plaza. The ambiance is relaxed and perfect for a lunch date. Everything on the menu is fresh and made to order. Thus far, I have not dined in all of my orders have been to go. However, every time I go to pick up my order, the staff is always super friendly and helpful. Their website is user-friendly and gives you the option to add extras of everything, which I love. My food is always hot and ready in a timely fashion. My goto menu item is the Green Salad with grilled shrimp. The shrimp are a nice size and always grilled to perfection. Two sauces come with the salad, I've tried all of the sauces, and like everything else here, they are made fresh in-house with a delightful flavor. You can make your own rice and bean bowl, with two different types of rice and two different types of beans to choose from, many different protein options, and a bunch of different toppings to make it very flavorful, as well as many sauces that you can choose two from for your bowls etc. The cilantro crema type sauce is the best!! It makes the bowl or any meal! You can make your own salad bowls also, tacos, many great sandwiches-- the Cuban, and grilled chicken one are two favs. My picky son likes the Cuban sandwich if we hold the pickles and mustard. Lol They also have Arepas-- Venezuelan cornmeal pita pocket type things. Studded with all the goodness. Very good. Their tostones (smashed and fried plantains) are great w the cilantro sauce. The Maduros (sweet green plantains) are also good. My boyfriend loves the yuca fries. The side mixed rice and beans are good. It was good a little too mushy in texture, but the flavor was on point the yellow rice the plantains the beans everything was very well seasoned. I ordered a beef empanada. It was OK. It was too Mili on the inside and over stuffed with too much empanada filling. I don't think I would order it again. One of the highlights that I really loved is the mango sauce. Very frustrating experience today. Previously I visited this restaurant and they made my order incorrect. I called and spoke to the manager who advised I could come back for a remake. Visited today for the remake and waited 20 minutes, provided receipts and all type of proof and was never able to get my lunch after speaking with multiple employees and was provided the expectation my food was cooking. I highly recommend checking your food as today left me very discouraged and will probably not visit again. FYI I used to visit all the time and I am regular face and customer and would have never thought I would be treated as someone who was trying to take advantage of them.
