Such a cool freaking combination!! No joke, my actual heritage is Japanese and Latina, but Mexican mixed in with Spanish, native: Apache, and Blackfoot blood. I have so many issues trying to eat my cultural food since I'm allergic to MSG/monosodium glutamate! I was surprised to find out I could eat the food here!! I didn't want to get too full, so my boyfriend and I split the two taco plate and goodness it was so delicious!! we got the cauliflower El Pastor and chicken adobo tacos. We got Boba downstairs so look for my review on that spot, and our plate was literally 17 bucks with tax! I could not believe the deal!! Service was incredibly quick even though the lady had to go check the menu items to make sure there was no MSG in the contents of either of those two tacos. Ambience is very cool and kickback. Came in with family for drinks before dinner. There were open seats available for all 5 of us and we were greeted right away. I ordered the Spicy Margarita and they were definitely generous with the alcohol. It was just spicy enough that you could feel the kick without it being overwhelming. The people who work here are complete and total JERKS!! Horrendous service. DO NOT EAT HERE!! We came here at 815pm and he told us the kitchen was closing at 845pm - ok no worries. So we ordered right away when we sat down. We told them in advance someone in our party couldn't have any aioli or crema cause they were allergic. It didn't seem to matter, they brought out over half the dishes with aioli/crema so we had to send them back. When we sent them back the short guy at the cash register gave me a death glare and was shaking his head and staring at me in disdain - as if I was the one who prepared it improperly... This same guy when we ordered was super rude with any dish/taco we inquired about. Then at 850pm, this asshole then started shooing everyone out when almost everyone (the bar area was 3/4 full) was still eating and/or drinking and told them they had to leave immediately... some people had just gotten their food and were stunned that he was so adamant about everyone leaving, claiming "security was going to lock them into the restaurant" if people weren't out in 2min - it clearly states that they don't close until 9pm... this douchey individual was shorter than everyone else with a beard and hat if management wants to reprimand him for having 0 customer service/hospitality (he was also a cashier - the guy who took our order wasn't as bad, but his coworker was so rude it overshadowed everything). The tacos were incredibly subpar (made the mistake of not going to Los Tacos), and I'm pissed I tipped over 20% to be treated like shit. DO NOT GO HERE!! Fun spot to grab tacos -- and not your typical tacos. The Japanese and Mexican fusion concept really works. They also had solid vegetarian options, which was a nice surprise. Bar seating is generally no-frills although I appreciate that they give you a carafe of water vs having to constantly flag down someone to refill your water glasses. Plus, I liked the fact that the food is served on actual plates (albeit with plastic utensils) unlike some of the other restaurants in Chelsea Market which are only a step above the takeout experience. Our nachos were crunchy although the ratio of salmon to chips was a bit off. Our tacos were thick and stuffed which was good (especially considering their high price of $5+ a piece) and came double-wrapped with corn tortillas. I'm pretty cautious of asian fusion tacos/burritos but also when theyre done well then i find that pretty impressive. And the more creative the better.
