It seems on every receipt if you complete a survey within 7 days of your visit, you can get free food and there's no expiration. With the meal I got the plaintains and the yuca fries as the sides and a Jamaica (tamarind) drink. The yuca fries were good. It came with honey mustard sauce. The drink was the perfect sweetness. The roasted chicken was seasoned well. It had bright, citrusy notes and was moist. The fried chicken though was a bit of a disappointment. It was darker than before and was more crunchier. The wait wasn't too bad at about 15 mins during lunch rush on a Saturday but their system on getting on the waitlist is horrible. A piece of paper on a ledge and no pen, I had to ask a random person if they had one so I could write my name down. The prices were pretty steep for what we got. The side of yuca was about 4 pieces of yuca and they were dry. The chicken itself was tasty but the pieces were also very small and super greasy. It didn't have that original flavor and crunch I've had in Central America. The sauce on the side wasn't that good either, it doesn't add anything to the dish so I didn't even use it, I used ketchup instead. Service was fine, they came and grabbed our order pretty fast even though they were busy and had a lot of other tables to attend to. I was new to Pollo Campero until tonight. I don't go to this area very often, in San Francisco. I made a special trip and wanted to taste and see. I don't regret my decision. I ordered a three piece grilled chicken meal online. There is a quick, painless system set up for retrieving the to go order. They were kind enough to allow me to eat my food and on the other side of the restaurant at a table. I got there shortly before closing time. Which is something I prefer to refrain from doing. Sometimes the food will suffer, since the staff is mainly focused on cleaning up/clocking out. The chicken was moderately tasty and cooked well, but was not served piping hot. It is marinated, coated with lime/seasonings. The star of everything, was the one side that came with my meal. Plantains!! They really stood out. Sautéed expertly, bursting with bright flavor. Caramelized crunch from the searing. Soft as pâté inside. I loved them!! I would come back just to order those again. They included a plethora of corn tortillas for me to take home. I opted for the roll to come with my meal, you get a choice of tortilla or bread. The drink I got was average. Usually jamaica does not call for added sweetness. Splenda helped with that part. Delicious Honduran fried chicken. Excellent beans and rice. Food was a 9 to 9.5 out of ten. Will be back for take out. Dine in experience was a 2 out of ten. As soon as you walk through the threshold of the door there is a rope blocking the entrance. It seems odd for a fast food place but that's how busy they are. We waited behind the rope until an employee came up and told us we could not stand in the doorway and that we had to wait outside. When we asked how long the wait was the employee said I don't know. Oh and all this is in Spanish. If you try to speak English they will just stare at you. So you put your name on a list and wait outside on the sidewalk and they call names as tables become available. Then you get a table, order at the table and food comes out and it's delicious. They try to maintain a restaurant type atmosphere by having an employee walk up every now and then to see if you are done and you have to ask for the check. Prices are very reasonable. Restrooms were a 1 out of ten. There are two unisex restrooms and even the employees have to stand in the ten person line outside of the door. It's right next to the take out line so super confusing. The inside of the restroom was nasty. The worst I have seen at a restaurant maybe ever. Great food, great prices but this place needs to be at least double the size with triple the employees to maintain their restaurant facade. Otherwise make it a take out only joint and let people be in and out. Will be doing take out next time. But there will be a next time thanks to the flavorful food! read more

Totally disappointed. Some of the worst food I've ever eaten, including the fiascos that I've cooked myself. Had it delivered. If I'd gotten it in the restaurant, I would have returned it and insisted on a refund. Had the 4 piece mixed chicken plate, with fries and mac & cheese. The coating of the fried chicken was overcooked to the point that the only flavors were salt and burnt flour. The roast chicken was so heavily covered with a lemon based seasoning that it was too tart to eat without a big gulp of water after every bite, even after removing the skin and most of the seasoning. In both cases, the chicken was dry. The glob of mac and cheese was terrible. The macaroni was mush and the cheese had become a congealed paste. The skinny fries were undercooked, no crispness at all, just limp. The roll was was like a supermarket dinner roll, the kind that's only 90% cooked, and needs to be heated to finish it off. But, it hadn't been, Can't say the chicken serving size wasn't particularly small, but it certainly wasn't impressive either. The Mac & Cheese seemed small, but it turned out that I was glad there wasn't more of it. Same with the fries and roll. read more

I ordered the 4 piece chicken which was a breast, wing, thigh and a leg, with mac and cheese + Pollo Campero Rice. I also ordered fries, so this was a carbs happy meal ! The fried chicken had a unique flavor that my taste buds were happy with. The fries were your typical fries. Because it was a delivery they weren't scalding hot but were still warm and just fine. The rice was fine, also had some flavors that I hadn't had before. I LOVED the mac and cheese, it was still hot and was outstanding. The chicken breast was tender and juicy and gave a small piece to my cat who also woofed it down. The size of the sides was appropriate as 4 pieces of chicken was the star of the show and you don't want to fill up on their dinner roll ( which was OK) or the sides. Really really solid chicken spot in the mission! We got a mix of things - mashed potato's, fried chicken, grilled chicken, bread, etc for a solid value that fed about 6-8 of us. While their fried chicken is great I personally LOVED their grilled chicken - so flavourful and juicy. The portion sizes were also very generous. Pollo Campero is what I keep wishing El Pollo Loco could be. Whenever I'm about to go to El Pollo Loco, I always hope that - THIS TIME - their chicken will be juicy. More often than not, though, it's stringy and dry. The drumsticks and wings shouldn't even count as pieces because they're pure bone, skin, and sinew. It's frustrating because I really like the flavor but the amount of meat that can actually be harvested from the mostly desiccated pieces isn't worth the cost (or work). Pollo Campero, though. They have delivered what I've been wanting for so long: Juicy, nicely-marinated, grilled chicken. They threw a bonus wing into my 4-piece meal and even that was meaty. Their plantains are SOOOO good. Even if I'm not in the mood for chicken, the plantains alone would draw me back. They were creamy, caramelized, sweet, and savory. They didn't come with anything but I happened to have crema at home to dip them into. As tasty as they are on their own, they do need a tangy element; be sure to have crema or sour cream in the fridge. The yucca fries also did not come with anything as part of the meal. Next time I will ask for a sauce on the side for them. My fat ass dipped them in mayo from the fridge but I kept wishing for something more complex. My 4-piece meal with bonus wing (plus the two sides) yielded enough meat for that first meal plus FOUR salad toppings in the following days. As soon as I took my first bite of the chicken I was already thinking of when I would be able to get back for more. Still, I'm holding back a star because sides should come with sauces/toppings they need. Their mashed potato side comes with gravy so the yucca fries should come with sauce and the plantains should come with crema.
