I wanted to like this place, but respectfully, they gone have to go back to Miami. Got the classic quarter chicken meal (leg and thigh), yellow rice with vegetables and beans. The chicken looked like it may still have pink inside, the veggies were the frozen ones you get at the grocery store, that has no taste, and the beans were bland too. The best part of the meal was the tostones - they cooked them well, so that is where the two stars comes from. Cashiers were helpful and patient, go to the food trucks or many Latin/Spanish groceries stores in the area, there line food is waaaay percent better. Each time I have to contact customer service and they advise that all they can do is give me a credit and not my money back. Oh my goodness. What has happened to this location? I admit it has been a while since I've been there (2 maybe 3 years), but my experience was very bad. The dining area was dirty, and I kid you not... there was only 1 other couple in the restaurant at the time. It wasn't after the lunch hour rush but it certainly looked that way. It was about 5:00 pm. There were many employees there. Some were standing around talking in the dining room. The only time I saw anyone doing any kind of cleaning in the dining room was when one of the workers behind the counter came out and started spraying a couple of empty tables, but every single table had some kind of grease or food particle on it. There were only 2 tables occupied at the time. The food was just as bad. The chicken was very dry. The cut of this breast of chicken was very small. It was like a free range chicken (very lean) or something. Not plump at all, which is probably why it was so dry. It was grilled to death. The white rice served with the black beans had definitely been sitting in a pot or container for a long time. I think the only good part of the meal was the sweet plantains. I asked my husband about it. He told me he rarely eats inside because the dining area is always dirty. He gets his food to go. He also said the food quality is hit or miss for him. I have to say I agree. I was very disappointed. I grew up in Miami and loved Pollo Tropical. I remember the day when the chicken was of good quality (juicy & tasty). I was happy when they opened the location in Brandon, and had some good experiences in the beginning even though it was never quite the same as what I remembered back in my hometown. I don't know what has happened to this location, but they need to fix it. The Hillsborough Avenue location is way better, and they are super busy. However, when i a picture of my military ID, a cashier by the name of "Bryan" refused to accept it as if it was fake. Why would i have a fake military ID? Just because i showed a picture of it does not at any way inquire that it is fraudulent. This is a disgrace. I've grown up eating Pollo Tropical and this location, hands down is the worst in terms of quality. Until now I have forgiven the poor quality and long waits at this location on account of them being short staffed. Today I ordered a large Tropichop with chicken and the chicken that was put in my bowl must've truly been bottom of the barrel, shredded remains with no one piece exceeding the size of a dime. No one could possibly consider this 'chopped grilled chicken'. To make matters worse, they are frequently out of the cilantro garlic sauce because 'someone forgot to make it before they left for the day'. I will gladly go out of my way, and drive 20 mins just to go to the decent location on Hillsborough just to spare me this experience again.
